Comedian Bill Burr has blasted “idiot” Elon Musk, branding the tech tycoon an “evident Nazi.”

Appearing on the latest episode of NPR’s Fresh Air podcast to promote his new Hulu comedy special, Drop Dead Years, the 56-year-old comedian explained that his current stand-up material is intended to wake people up to the realities of the current political atmosphere.

“I’m trying to get regular people to stop yelling at each other and realize that it’s a select few group of nerds eating raw almonds and doing their stupid workouts and competing with each other to have the biggest infinity pool, and the rest of us are getting pushed down,” Burr said. “They’ve politicized the whole stupid thing and we’re falling for it.”

Asked to clarify what almond-eating nerds he was referring to, he responded: “That idiot Elon Musk, who evidently is a Nazi.”

“I just refuse to believe it was an accidental two-time Sieg Heil [by Musk], and he does it at a presidential inauguration!” Burr added, referring to Musk’s controversial hand gesture at an Inauguration Day event, which was interpreted by many as a Nazi salute

“This is why I hate liberals,” Burr continued. “Liberals have no teeth whatsoever. They just go, ‘Oh my God, can you believe this? I’m getting out of the country!’

He added: “I’m just like, you’re gonna leave the country because of one guy with dyed hair plugs and a laminated face? Who makes a bad car and has an obsolete social media platform? Why doesn’t he leave? Why are we so afraid of this guy who can’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag?”

Since President Donald Trump’s re-election, Musk, 53, has increasingly become an integral part of his administration.
Even as Trump has insisted that the Tesla CEO and X/Twitter owner is not in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force, Musk’s influence is undeniable.

South African businessman Patrice Motsepe has secured a second term as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after being re-elected unopposed.

Motsepe, 63, who first assumed office in 2021, had announced his intention to seek re-election in October 2024.

His second four-year term was officially confirmed during CAF’s extraordinary genera
l assembly held in Cairo on Wednesday, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in attendance.
A renowned mining magnate and owner of South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, Motsepe expressed his commitment to building on the progress achieved during his tenure.

Under his leadership, CAF has undertaken various reforms aimed at strengthening African football.

While his re-election was a mere formality, elections were conducted for CAF’s executive committee, where Cameroonian football icon Samuel Eto’o secured a seat.

The continent’s representatives for the FIFA Council were also elected during the assembly.

Elon Musk has responded to protests taking place across the world targeting the billionaire for his recent political activity, with campaigners attacking Tesla showrooms.

Activists have launched a "Tesla Takedown" campaign, which aims to protest Elon Musk's involvement with President Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is aiming to cut fiscal waste across the US Government.

While many of the protests against the billionaire have been peaceful, some incidents have been met with condemnation from the businessman and emergency services

In one case, a lot in Seattle saw four Cybertrucks set alight, although the Seattle Fire Department has yet to confirm whether foul play was suspected as the cause of the fire.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk reacted to a video of the Washington-based storage area which had seen four Cybertrucks targeted.
The five-minute clip shows firefighters tackling flames coming from a Cybertruck, prompting Musk to post: "This is crazy."

Pictures of the Cybrtrucks show badly damaged models, with some suffering minor cosmetic damage and others being completely destroyed.

Protestors also took aim at a Tesla showroom in New York City, in which they chanted "we need clean air, not another billionaire", and resulted in several being arrested at the scene.

Unlike many other international companies operating locally, Starlink wants to deal directly with customers for its residential service and not partner with local Internet service providers (ISPs).

However, the Electronic Communications Act requires that telecoms licensees be 30% owned by historically disadvantaged groups (HDGs), including black people, youth, women, and people with disabilities.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has also approved a rule that would require licensees to be 30% black-owned.

Although Icasa has put the implementation of this particular requirement on hold, it could come into effect at a moment’s notice and is like a sword hanging over the telecoms industry.

In late 2024, it seemed as though some progress was being made towards getting Starlink over the regulatory line in South Africa.

Communications minister Solly Malatsi said he would call on the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) to develop equity equivalents that would make it easier for international companies to operate locally.

President Cyril Ramaphosa also met with SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk on the sidelines of a United Nations meeting in New York last year to discuss potential investments in the country.

However, the recent diplomatic tension between the United States and South African governments has likely hurt any realistic prospects of Starlink launching in the near future.

Protests at Tesla showrooms and dealerships that are united by the slogan #TakedownTesla are picking up steam—with over 65 actions planned around the country and in Europe through the end of this week, and dozens scheduled for Saturday alone.

Tesla, billionaire Elon Musk's electric vehicle company, has become a site of resistance in the growing movement against the GOP megadonor's central role in the second Trump administration.

It grew after Winter created the website to help centralize the effort.

"There have now been protests outside of Tesla locations in over 100 cities, and the movement is picking up speed and going global," wrote Winter in a piece for Rolling Stone that was published on February 21.

"We need an alternative to watching things unravel from our couches, that inspires hope and shows that we still have the capacity to oppose those who want to tear the fabric of our society apart and extract their own benefit from the wreckage," he continued.

Tesla's stock experienced a bump after Trump's election, but the company's share price has plummeted more than 40% from it's post-election peak in December, wiping out those gains. The tumbling of its stock meant that February was Tesla's second-worst month on record, only eclipsed by the 37% loss the stock experienced in December 2022, according to Yahoo Finance.

In Europe, where Musk has promoted far-right political parties, Tesla sales have slumped.

On Monday, one observer shared a visual of Tesla's stock declining and wrote "Turns out pissing off a good deal of the global population isn't good for business," along with #TeslaTakedown.

Not long after the US imposed their tariffs on Canada, a local neighbourhood pub in Toronto began removing all American products off their menu.

That means nachos, wings - and of course, beer - must all to be made now with local Canadian ingredients, or wherever not possible, non-US products from Europe or Mexico.

For Leah Russell, manager at Toronto's Madison Avenue pub, the boycott was a no-brainer. She adds that it is "pretty set in stone," even if the tariffs themselves are not.

"I'm glad that we're getting rid of American products and supporting local businesses," Ms Russell told the BBC on Thursday. "I think it's an important thing to do."

This defiant stance in response to President Donald Trump's tariffs and threats against Canada has been unfolding across the northern country.

Just ask actor Jeff Douglas, once the face of Molson Canadian Beer's "I Am Canadian" advertisements, who has filmed and posted a light-hearted, but deeply-patriotic video on Youtube this week addressing Trump's "51st state" rhetoric.

"We're not the 51st anything," declares Mr Douglas in the video, which has since gone viral in Canada.

Some of the backlash has been more symbolic, like one Montreal café changing the Americano on their menu to a "Canadiano" - a small gesture that the owners say is meant to display unity and support for their community and country.

Even the CBC, the country's public broadcaster, is feeling the full force of this wave of patriotism, after it dared run a programme asking Canadians what they think about Canada becoming "the 51st state", as Trump has suggested many times.

Although Trump has since lifted some of the tariffs imposed this week and put others on pause until 2 April, many Canadians say the damage has already been done.

After Thursday's reversal, foreign minister Melanie Joly told CNN that Canada has been shown "too much disrespect by the Trump administration at this point, calling us a 51st state, calling our prime minister 'governor.'"

Former consumer activists, EV fanatics, and drivers who once took advantage of the carbon tax credit are now shedding their Teslas in disgust. Others are disguising the company's emblem on their hood in a desperate bid to avoid associating with Musk's brand — a task complicated by Tesla's unmistakable designs.

Probably the most superficial protest is the bumper sticker declaring "I bought this before Musk went crazy," a sentiment which some longtime critics say comes about seven years too late.

Meanwhile, real protests of all stripes have been organizing around the shared goal of tanking Tesla's bottom line, an effective — if uncoordinated — strategy so far. If every country were to put itself first, the ‘law of the jungle’ would return, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday in response to a question from CNN’s Steven Jiang about US President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy.
There are more than 190 countries in the world,” the Chinese diplomat said during a news conference in Beijing.
