There was pandemonium in Otto Awori, Ojo Local government area of Lagos state, yesterday, as hoodlums loyal to some aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, state House of Assembly went on rampage.

During the fracas that erupted, one person was brutally killed while several others were seriously wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital. No fewer than 35 vehicles were destroyed in a near bye mechanic workshop by the rampaging political thugs.

The deceased was killed after crisis broke at Oto Awori at about 1:34pm when a top official of Okada Riders Association (name withheld) said to be the main sponsor of Ojo constituency 11 aspirant to Lagos state House of Assembly allegedly led one of the aspirants to Oni of Ijanikin’s palace for a rally.

Newsbeats gathered that his group clashed with some boys from Oto Awori resulting in a crisis that lasted for hours. It was learned that a middle aged man whose identity could not be ascertained was beaten to death by some of the hoodlums who participated in the crisis. Scores of people including passersby and shop owners were seriously wounded by the dangerous weapons freely used by the hoodlums.

The Lagos state police command is currently investigating a chef, Joshua Usulor over the murder o a female lawyer in her hotel room at Opebi, Ikeja on the 26th of January 2019.
It was learned that on the said date, the Lagos State Police Command received a report that one Feyitayo Obot, aged 34, was gruesomely murdered in her hotel room and that after committing the crime, Joshua Usulor fled the scene.
Following the report, the Command sent its homicide detectives to the scene of crime at Opebi, Ikeja where they collected important exhibits for forensic analysis.

Political violence: Would 2019 election be recorded as the most violent in Nigeria's history?

With the increasing number of violent attacks, killings associated with political campaigns across the country, the 2019 elections may go down as one of the most violent elections held in the history of Nigeria.

From North to South, East to West, the scenario seem not different with political enemies being abducted, gunned down, assassinated, campaign vehicles burnt and properties worth millions being destroyed.

For most states, the violence began during the party primaries, with different fractions of same political party attacking each other.

With the electioneering campaign came more violence and killings.

On February 4 2019, some parts of Kogi, Delta, Oyo and Lagos states were rocked by political violence, leaving at least seven people dead and many others injured.

No fewer than three persons were feared dead while about 20 others sustained various degrees of injuries as rival gangs clashed in the Effurun area of Warri metropolis in Delta State.

According to credible sources, the clashes between political thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) are unimaginable.

In same week in Kogi State, two persons were reported killed and many others injured in an attack during a political rally in Itama area of Dekina, when APC and PDP supporters clashed during the campaign of Benjamin Ikani a PDP House of Representative candidate for Biraidu, Bassa and Dekina federal constituency,.

Also two people also died in a bloody clash between suspected political hoodlums at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Igboora area of Oyo State.

The campaign flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos early this year ended abruptly as violence broke out midway into the event.

On January 8 2019, hoodlums suspected to be members of the National Union Road Transport Workers (NURTW), we're said to have invaded the Skypower Ground Ikeja venue with dangerous weapons, engaging one another in a bloody factional fight that led to the death of three persons.

Ajasun Waka, is one of the few lucky victims to be alive after he was attacked by unknown hoodlums on Sunday, February 17 2019.

Ajasun Waka, a well known Hausa musician for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state, was stabbed multiple times by political thugs a day after he released his latest song titled "Sati Daya Yazo Ya Wuce", over the postponement of elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Just last week in Kwara state one person was killed, while several others sustained injuries and many vehicles destroyed during an attack on an All Progressives Congress campaign train in Kwara state.

Confusion and sadness on Sunday reigned at No. 2, Christian Onoja Street, Igbogbo in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Government Development Area of Lagos state when the family of Mr. and Mrs. Michel Ede discovered the bodies of two of their children, Emma Ede 6, and Darasimi Ede 4 years inside their parents’ refrigerator
It was gathered that the Michel Ede the father of the deceased children and his kids were observing their siesta in the afternoon in their apartment with the doors securely locked when the incident occurred. Unfortunately when he woke up at about 2:30PM she met the children inside a deep freezer.

A relative of Mr Ede, “the kids and their father were at home when the incident happened. When he woke up, he and didn’t find his kids he went outside to ask neighbours if they saw his children. His neigbhours said no that they haven’t seen them. They assisted him to search the neighbourhood for the kids but could not find them”.

According to the relative, “the father of the kids is always with the children anytime his wife isn’t around. After searching everywhere, he called his wife who wasn’t at home at the time of the incident. Immediately their mother rushed back from where she went to, she began to search for them inside their apartment. It was their mother that discovered their lifeless body inside the refrigerator.

It was learned that the children were found in perfect frozen condition, as it was clear that they had been there for some time. All efforts to revive them proved abortive, as they were confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor at Briggston Hospital in Selewu, Igbogbo, where the children were taken to.

Tragedy struck in Apapa local government area of Lagos state on Wednesday night when three people were killed in a boat mishap on their way from Coconut- Liverpool to Ojo area of Lagos.

The incidence occurred when a speed boat with description God bless the marine conveying twenty-two passengers from Liverpool Jetty enroute Ojo waterside had a head long collision with a water boat at Ibru jetty water front causing the boat to capsize.

It was learned that 19 persons were rescued unfortunately the remains of the three persons that lost their lives were recovered by a combined team of rescuers from the Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) and local divers.

The deceased which include two men and a woman were identified as Michaeal Okoye, Ayba Musa and Alhaja Biola Akanni.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Vanguard, seven persons were missing after the rescue team rescued twelve persons later the other seven were rescued. Unfortunately three died.

Confirming the incident the Lagos state police public relations officer CSP Chike Oti, said that at about 8:30pm the police received a distress call from Bode Egbayelo, Chairman boat owners association coconut area that a speed boat with description God bless the marine conveying twenty 22 passengers from Liverpool Jetty enroute Ojo waterside had a head long collision with a water boat at Ibru jetty water front.

After search and rescue 19 passengers were rescued while three corpses were recovered. Two of the corpses recovered were identified as Michaeal Okoye and Ayba Musa were deposited at Ikorodu general hospital mortuary while the remains of Alhaja Biola Akanni was moved by her family members insisting that autopsy should not be performs on the remains due to Islamic rites. Investigation is still ongoing.

Officers of kwara state police command are still battling to recover the placenta of a new born baby allegedly sold to a Muslim cleric in ilorin for ritual purposes by a Nurse attendant in a private hospital in Ilorin.It was reliably gathered that the Muslim cleric and the nurse attendant in one of the private hospitals in Ilorin, currently being interrogated by the police, were yet to disclose the where about of the placenta.

It was also gathered that, the placenta was sold by the nurse attendant to the cleric at the cost of N20,000 for money ritual.

The duo were arrested at their different locations in Ilorin following the report to the police command by the medical officer in charge of the private hospital.

How man for defrauded participants over N48M with scam trade-fair

The Ogun State Police Command is currently interrogating one Abah Smith Emmanuel, for allegedly defrauding over 8,000 persons within and outside Nigeria, of N48 million through a well orchestrated scam trade fair in Abeokuta.

The organisers of Abah smith trade fair reportedly requested interested participants to pay a gate fee of N3000 for each day of the fair and N6, 000 for the two days trade fair into a zenith bank account number

101559273, with an account name Abah Smith global resources limited.

It was learned that participants who paid before October 1, 2018, were assured of participating in the raffle draw that would qualify them to purchase a plot of land or a car with their cryptocurrency, while participants who paid at the gate on the days of the fair would only be entitled to make purchases with their cryptocurrency.

Abah Smith and his wife, Sophia, were alleges to have informed would be participants through whatsapp and Telegram social platforms, that they had imported goods like: home theater, high end phones, laptops, designer clothes, bags and shoes and food items.

Those who came from Edo state came with a luxury bus. It was gathered that participants even came from neighbouring West African countries like Ghana, Cotounu and Togo with high hopes of using their crypto currency to purchase items only to discover it was a scam.

The fair which held in an opened roof of a dilapidated building where where over 12000 participants were subjected to the scourging sun and rainfall at Baptist Primary School (Omolayo),Idi Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun state .

According to Olowookere Bishop, “on Saturday everybody went back to the venue again with hope of shopping, as was promised by his scam Admins yesterday Friday. Those that got there by 6am today were no 368,etc. Some people slept at the venue, some in the buses that brought them. They started accreditation on time, but again kept people scattered and waiting aimlessly for the gate of the shopping arena to be opened. As at 11.30am, no sign of shopping arrangement. Unfortunately people busted the gate open, when I entered the hall some people were already comfortably seated in the shopping arena, and were being addressed by Abahsmith scam Admins. Some few bags of rice, tubbers of yams, bunch of rotten plantains, palm oil, groundnut oil, few pairs of Okrika shoes/clothes bought from Aswani market were on display. The scam Admins then provoked the tensed crowd by suggesting that each participant pick one item to represent three thousand two items for two tickets. At the same time it began to rain the crowd became uncontrollable.

Some of us regrouped and decided to take the fraudster Abahsmith scam group up. We went to the Area Command, ten of us, I represented the Lagos group, the security operatives the organizers brought ended up detaining Abah Smith's brother in law, pending when Abah Smith showed up. While we were concluding our statement, the police picked up Abah Smith, brought him to the station.

Narrating her experience, during the fair, Rose Bata a participants who paid N12, 000 for herself and her son, said that I travelled all the way from Abuja through Lagos to Abeakuta on the 4th of October. I stayed in a guess house called Gate way for two nights 4th and 5th. I was at the venue on the 5th from 6.30am throughout in the rain till past six in the evening. The following day I was there early enough hopping to see a better reception from the previous day but it was d worst. While I was there I broke down in health and had to rush back to Lagos to take care of myself. Since then I have been in Lagos managing myself. When I got better, I travelled back to Abuja empty handed. I have my bank transfer details dated 08/09/2018 and tickets issued to me on the 5th intact. Abah smith cannot deny it. This money is nothing to me almost a hundred thousand naira paid for this nonsense trip I must collect my N12000 back from AbahSmith. Thank you very much. God Almighty will bless u for taking this giant step to see that AbahSmith is prosecuted.

Another participant Tony Olaide said Abah Smith Festival was a planned scam, with a wicked intentions, if not how can they be asking people to delete the screen shot payment proof. Immediately after issuing out tickets to people at the venue they collected all the tellers payment proof that people are physically having, so that many people will not be able to have any payment proof again to back up their claim if the needs arises.

The organizer is a heartless and wicked individual. Many people lost their phones and other valuables to the angry mob when everything broke down while this wicked heartless Abah Smith disappeared unexpectedly with his group. So many people health broke down because of the stressful situation. What about the two days accommodations expenses, apart from the two days gate fee, while some participants paid for 10, 20 people, even more. Yet they collected the tellers payment proof and asked all the screen shot proof to be deleted and his staff still collected a lot of money again at the venue for both days. Now, he is trying to deny all this payment, because it was all planned.

According to Sunday Francis, who came to the fair with about 25 paid participants, “Justice should be served in this matter, my younger brother has not gotten home till now because of his car that had overheating problem. I only trusted him like every other person who went for the festival and as an extrovert, I can't sit and watch things go wrong, was the reason I was trying to assists to make thing work properly at the venue

I also want justice served. Let Abah Smith send a device to everyone who paid if it is true that the devices are available. I came with a group of 25 person to the fair. I don't want a refund of the gate fee because it does not account properly for the transport people spent to Abeokuta”.

“But Abbah Smith has chosen to go to court for reason I think is selfish and unjust

I stand for truth and not lies, what he should have done was to send the devices (TV, lap tops, phones) to people in their various state if it's true that they are available”

Lamenting one of the participants, Oyebadie said Abah Smith scammed thousands of people with his calculated scam trade fair. The registration and ticket sharing on Saturday morning was all a charade to make participants think they would address Friday’s flaws using their induced confusion strategy to deceive people. Unfortunately it worked for them.

Now he has the guts to use the proceeds from the scam money to hire the service of a lawyer to fight the people he humiliated and oppressed.

According to Mabel, a participant, Abahsmith harvest/ trade fair was a monumental failure because of greed and the intent to defraud innocent participants. From the beginning there was no limit to the number of people who would participate in the trade fair, which was why even at the venue on Friday and Saturday Abah Smith's wife and agents kept collecting payment from unsuspecting participants, even when it was obvious that the paid participants were much more than the organisers could handle. The venue too was an issue, participants queued under the sun like people in IDP camps.

At a point it began to rain and we were drenched. Sincerely the fair was a horrible experience. When Abah Smith began to receive payment from participants in respect of the trade fair, that was when collation of paid participants should have started to enable him published a list of paid participants on the various platforms but no , he had to wait till Friday to go get bank statement. In this day of technology where people use mobile app, you can request for your bank statement online which will be sent to your mail instantly, it is no rocket science.

With all the disappointment on Friday, participants thought by Saturday the organizers would have put their house in order. But like Friday ugly episode, Saturday was a shameless repeat of failure, as they used the same confusion strategy employed by Abah smith and team, the previous day.

From 8am till 12noon no participants whose prove of payment was verified and given ticket was attended to. Rather, they were abandoned at the second gate of the venue like beggars for hours under the sun before the crowd went berserk.

When Contacted the spokesperson for the Ogun state police command Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the case which was initially reported at Kemta police station, had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department , Eleweran , Abeokuta, for further investigation

The family of Folake Ogunbodade, the female Police sergeant who reportedly attacked her husband, Taiwo Ogunbodade, on Saturday night, has said she did it in self-defence.

Her younger brother, Olumide, who spoke to Vanguard yesterday, said: “My sister has been suffering the worst form of domestic violence from her husband, Taiwo. In the past 11 years, my sister has been subjected to the highest form of domestic violence because of her children. “She has three children— aged 10, seven and four— for Taiwo. The battering started immediately she got pregnant for her first child. He beats her at every slight provocation, even while she is pregnant. Each time she felt threatened, she takes her children and ran to our family house. “But he comes to take the children back home, insisting that his kids cannot be raised outside his home. He then leaves them at home, when going out. “Each time Folake gets worried about the welfare of her children and goes to check on them, she feels terrible that her kids are not having the motherly love they deserve. “Her husband will then give her the condition that if she wants to be seeing the children, she has to stay with him. He uses the children to blackmail her into continuing to live in an abusive marriage. Taiwo feels our family isn’t known or powerful so he takes advantage of that to torture my sister. “Usually, when there is a misunderstanding between them, she runs for her life because of his violent nature. Once he is drunk, he comes home and attacks his wife, accuse her of unnecessary things. “Sometimes he beats the children and when she attempts to protect them, he beats her up. Sometimes, he beats her up because of her salary. He demands her entire salary from her. If she refuses, he gets drunk and beats her up.” ‘Why she attacked him’ On last Saturday’s incident, Olumide said: “On that particular day, when my sister ran to our family house, he came and took the children like he normally does. “When she came back from work and discovered that he took them home, she called and the children complained that they haven’t eaten and that their father went to bed immediately they got home. “That was why she went back home that Saturday evening. When she got home, the landlord intervened, saying their troubles were getting out of hand and that henceforth, he would not allow both of them to live under same roof to avoid them killing each other. “He said one of them have to leave otherwise he will eject both of them. After deliberations, Taiwo agreed to leave the house because of the children. Later at about 10p.m., he called his wife that he is coming home, that he cannot leave his children in the hands of anybody. “To avoid trouble, his wife and children pretended they were sleeping. Despite the fact that they left the door open, he broke the door and in the process, hit his son’s head. “They later got into an argument and he cut her in the face and neck. In self-defence, she attacked him too so that he could release her. Because of the injury, she was rushed to the hospital that night and discharged the next day. “It was on Sunday that we found out that Taiwo and his family members have posted her pictures on social media, saying she attacked her husband. Her colleagues were calling her to find out what happened. “She and her husband lives at Meiran, while she usually take refuge in our family house at Abeokuta Road, Sasha, Lagos. Novelty Hospital was where she was rushed to. “Her husband’s families aren’t straightforward. She has gone to them to complain several times about his behaviours. “Taiwo is a very dangerous man. A police officer identified as Inspector Philip Kolo, and a yet- to- be identified commercial motorcyclist were crushed to death by a train at PWD bus stop, Ikeja, Lagos.

It was learned that the Okada rider had sighted the train, which was enroute Ijoko, Ogun State, but in an attempt to navigate the rail track before it arrival, proved abortive as his motorbike got stuck in motion, killing him and the policeman in the process.
When newsbeat visited the scene, the charred bodies of the victims and their personal property were sighted scattered along the rail track.

It was gathered that the traffic officers deployed to the axis by Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, had urged the Okada rider to wait but didn’t yield to the caution; rather continued with his journey.

Newsbeat gathered that the Inspector, Philip Kolo attached to Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit striking team, Force Headquarters, Abuja was in Lagos on official duty when the incident occurred.

When the car was searched, seven bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp (Cannabis marijuana), carefully hidden to avoid being seized by security operatives, were recovered from the two occupants, namely, Tajudeen Atanda, 60 years and Rasheed Kehinde, 31 years.

The suspects who were arrested by the team at Ghetto waterside, Marwa, Lekki Phase one, are currently undergoing interrogation at Maroko Police station. Both men have confessed to the crime stating that the weeds believed to be Indian hemp are meant for consumers in the state, mainly youths.

A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba has sentenced one James Okporua Otobrise, the kidnapper of a Warri based Journalist, Prince Monday Whiskey, to 17years in prison. Just as another Court in Lagos yesterday sentenced two men to 41 years in prison for kidnapping and armed robbery.

Delivering the judgment in Asaba, the Court presided over by Hon. Justice F.N. Azinge (Mrs.) said, “The sentence is to act as a deterrent to others, who believe that kidnapping is a lucrative enterprise or business and to rid the society of people like the Defendant who live on crime.

“Therefore I will pronounce the sentence as is provided under the law. You, James Okporua Otobrise is hereby sentenced as follows: Count I, 7years imprisonment, Count II, 10years imprisonment. To run consecutively. This is the judgement of the Court.”

The convict was arraigned by the Delta State Government on two count charges bordering on conspiracy to wit: Kidnapping but he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Recall that Otobrise allegedly kidnapped the Warri based Journalist, Prince Monday Whiskey on the 19th of March 2012 at Orhuwhorhun in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

They held the Journalist captive in an uncompleted building belonging to him (convict), blindfolded and chained the hands and legs with padlocks, but the Journalist managed to escape through a window on the 20th of March 2012.

Thereafter, the current Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire by chance rescued the victim along Oguname-Olomu.

In a chat with Journalists, Prince Monday Whiskey hailed members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Delta State Council for the judgment.

In related judgement, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos yesterday sentenced two men to 41 years in prison for kidnapping and armed robbery.

The convicts are Kelvin Emenike Ukoh, 32 and Emeka Obasi, 33.

They were convicted for the kidnapping of one Mr Ugoje Jude, a shipping agent, and his staff, Miss Piriye Gogo on August 3, 2012, at about 9 pm.

The duo were arraigned alongside three others: Uche Igbani, 28, Chibuzor Osuagwu, 33 and a 36-year-old woman, Onowu Ngozi, on a 14 count-charge bothering on conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery and murder.

The State prosecuting Counsel, Mrs K. O Sarumi told the court that the convicts abducted the victims at gunpoint, at Alakija into 7th Avenue, while driving home in a Honda Pilot car and took them to an unidentified location.

Mr Jude testifying before the court said that his abductors initially ordered him to pay N10m for his release but after much negotiations that they collected N5m.

However, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo convicted and sentenced Ukoh and Obasi to 5, 15 and 21 years for conspiracy, kidnapping and armed robbery respectively, the other three were discharged and acquitted by the court.

Justice Taiwo said that the prosecution could not prove beyond reasonable doubt the nexus linking the other three: Igbani, Osuagwu, Ngozi to the alleged charges of murder, conspiracy, Kidnapping and armed robbery.

The judge also noted that the prosecution could not present any evidence of murder as charged against all the defendants, aside from their confessional statements.

While Igbani and Osuagwu claimed they were arrested on their way to work, Ngozi said that Udoh, her brother’s friend, brought police to her house to arrest her brother, who was at large but now deceased.

Ngozi claimed that when the police couldn’t find her brother, she was arrested instead.

An applicant, seeking Nigerian international passport has died in Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Passport office, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The applicant was said to have arrived the passport office at about 7.am in company with his wife and they were asked to wait till 9.am that they would be attended to.

It was gathered that at about I0.am, the man became restless and started complaining of severe heat and discomfort. He however requested to use the rest room.

However trouble started when he didn’t come out of the toilet after about half an hour and his his wife became very worried.

It was learned that after After about 40 minutes, attendant from the agency knocked several times and he did not respond. We tried to open the door, but it was locked from the inside.

An official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: “we don’t know what was wrong with him, he came with his wife, he was so uncomfortable with himself and a bit aggressive complaining that he should be attended to as he and his wife arrived the passport office before other applicants the officers were attending to. Later he said went into the convenience to ease himself.

Later an attendant knoced severally on the door but no response. We couldn’t force the door open, because our superiors warned that we should not to break the door until the police arrived the scene.’

It was learned that when the police arrived and forced the door to the toilet open they found a gory sight. He applicant who was naked had died and was sitting on the stool.

An eye witness, who identified herself simply as Jenny, said he died before the police arrived and forced the door open. Who knows, maybe he would have survived if he was rushed to the hospital immediately before the police arrived.”

Confirming the incident, the Passport Controller in charge of Ikoyi Passport office, (PCO) Mani Yari, said: ” Yes it is the true, an applicant died in our Toilet. He came to our office with his wife. There was no queue, as he did not come to collect Passport .We attend to visitors as from 9.am. As from 9.am, we started attending to the applicants.

Along the line, the deceased said he wanted to ease himself .It was after about 40 minutes that the wife started raising the alarm that her husband had not come back from the toilet .We thought if was the normal panic from a woman.

But when we arrived the scene and he did not open the door that we called the police who came and bust the door open and we saw the lifeless body. The body has been deposited at a government hospital for autopsy.

Lagos- A Lagos Magistrates’ Court in Igbosere, yesterday ordered a 31-year-old bus driver, Jamiu Adeoye, to sweep all the court premises for biting a police officer on his nose and chest.

Adeoye, whose residential address was not given, was on August 3, arraigned on a count charge of assault.

He had however pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties, who must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Adeoye, who could not meet the bail condition, when the case was called for mention yesterday however, changed his plea to guilty.

Consequently Magistrate, Mrs A. M. Davies, found him guilty as charged and ordered him to do community service.

She told Adeoye to sweep all the court promises from the first floor to the last floor.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on August 9, at 7.40p.m, at P and T, Obalande, Lagos.

He said that Adeoye unlawfully assaulted Inspector Joseph Tirven, by giving him a bite on his nose and chest.

A 23-years old mother of two, Miracle Johnson who was arrested by operatives of the Edo state Police Command for allegedly selling her six week old baby has revealed that she committed the act because her husband was not taking care of her.

According to Miracle, who blamed her action on frustration, “I was persuaded my friend Mama Joy, to sell the infant and give the money to my husband to start a business”.

“My baby was born on July 2. I sold her due to frustration. My husband was just struggling (to provide for us).

“My friend (Mama Joy) advised that since my husband was not taking care of me, if I did it (sold the baby), I could give the money to my husband to start a business or buy a motorcycle.

“Two weeks later, she came back. I did not know what happened to me. So, I carried a bag, picked some things and left.

“I sold her to an orphanage in Onitsha. The orphanage bought the child for N200,000. I just bought only a phone; I did not want to buy it, but she (Mama Joy) forced me to do so,” she added. However trouble started when her concise began to prick her. I could not sleep at night so I confessed to my pastor.

,“I told my pastor what I did and that it was a mistake for which I would never forgive myself. So, my husband and I went to a police station to report. I know what I did was not good. I pray that my child will forgive me.”

It was gathered that the suspects, identified as Nasiru Bashiru, Kenneth Dike and Power Michael, were rounded up when they hacked a middle-aged man identified simply as Walter, to death at the entrance of a popular hotel at Iyano-Sashi area of the state, on July 21, 2018.

Police sources informed that the suspects and members of their group who were said to have carried out several cults related killings and armed robbery within the areas were arrested following a petition written to Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris by members of the community.

It was learned that the IGP while acting on the petition, deployed a crack team of operatives of STS, led by an Inspector of police identified as Akan Smith and the suspects were trailed to their hideout where three of them were arrested.

When interviewed the suspects they confessed to have taken part in killing of 11 persons within Ajegunle, Magbon and Ijanikin areas of Lagos State and admitted to have been present on the day Walter was killed.

According to 30-year-old Bashiru, who is married with a child, confessed that he joined the Aye Confraternity in 2012 after he was humiliated by some cultists in his neighbourhood, saying “I joined the Aye confraternity because I was oppressed as a trailer driver. An 82-year-old herbalist and seven others have been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of a Police Sergeant in Ifako Ijaiye, Ogba, last week.
The deceased policeman, Sergent Esiabor Collins, with service number 260326, who was among a patrol team, was lynched by some youths suspected to be cultists.

Identities of the suspects who were paraded before journalists at the lagos State Police Command headquarters , yesterday are: Adewunmi Suleiman, (28) Olorunda Michael, (21) Omoba Idowu, (27), Olarewaju Hammed, (20) Ransom Adewuye (27) Ayo Adeyanju (27) Anu Akinola, (24) Ige Paul Akanbi (29) Babatunde Rufai (82) and Eriyo Elegbede (52)

Briefing journalists on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said “Investigation into the case revealed that the suspects are cultists as attested to by one of them, Ayo Adeyanju who conveyed the corpse of their late member to the burial site.

“ On their way, they decided to avenge the death of the deceased on the police patrol team even though it is clear that the police had no physical contact whatsoever with the deceased.

“According to the suspects, the deceased sighted policemen within his vicinity and attempted to scale a fence believing they were after him. Unfortunately, he put the wrong foot forward and fatally injured himself.

The Bayelsa state police command is currently investigating one Effiong Sunday for burning her 13-year-old niece with a hot pressing iron.
It was learned that the incident happened on Tuesday, September 5, 2018, at Brass street, Etegwe Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

As mob lynches suspected accomplice

Residents of Cele Nica, along badagry expressway in Ojo area of Lagos were yesterday, thrown into panic following the recovery of human parts with a woman who has been masquerading as a lunatic.

The woman with an undisclosed identity according to residents had been living on the bridge for several months.


However, residents who suspected her moves, monitored her movement until the startling discovery was made yesterday.

One of the residents, Arewa Sunday who spoke with newsbeat, disclosed that three human heads and with different human parts were found in the suspect’s possession, adding that she threw a telephone she was with , into the bush , on sighting officials of the Neighbour watch corps who were contacted .

Another resident, a a trader, who identified herself as Mrs Winfred Orji, explained that ”I was going to the market when I stumbled on the crowd. I had to alight from the commercial bus to know what was going on. To my shock, I saw different human parts: both fresh and dried.

Sometimes, smoke would be billowing from where she stays on top of the bridge. We concluded that she was cooking, unknown to us that she was roasting human parts. A man’s corpse was also found there, with his wrist watch was still working. Clothes suspected to be those of her victims were also found with her. She usually went to Vespa market to beg the traders.

Another eyewitness Abimbola Funmi, said that residents curiosity were aroused by some posh cars that usually parked close to where she stays on the bridge.

Funmi said : “ A few days ago man man parked his jeep there and was seen with her in broad daylight. What would a right thinking person be doing with a man woman?

As at time of writing this report, Newsbeat gathered that irate mob who conducted a search round the mad woman’s vicinity, lynched a man found there. The unidentified man was suspected to be an accomplice.

The way was caught after they set fire in an underground tunnel which forced the man t come out.

When contacted, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Chike Oti, said ” at about 10am this morning(yesterday) , we received a distress call from a resident at a community in Olorunsogo that a mad woman who stays at the bridge was carrying a nylon and on close inspection they found a human skull inside. While they were dragging with the mad woman they saw officials of neighborhood watch who they invited to the scene.

The officials rescued the madwoman from the angry mob who wanted to lynch her and took her to their zonal office at Iba. The police went there and the suspect was transferred to State Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID , Yaba for further investigation.

The quiet community of Ijanikin was thrown into a mini tourist attraction as residents trooped in to catch a glimpse of the huge Python that swallowed a he-goat.

Newsbeat learned that the Python crawled out of its hideout in a nearby swampy area into one of the compound where they rare livestocks located at behind former Ariton hotel, beside Vespa market

However trouble started after the Python completely swallowed the goat and could not move out of the compound before it was discovered and killed.

A14-year-old girl, Anna Amos who is currently being investigated by the Edo state police command for allegedly killing her boss in Benin city has revealed that she smashed her boss’s head with a stone because she was under the influence of unseen spirits.

According to the secondary school student, who has been in police custody since on Tuesday for the murder of 71-year-old Hellen Adodo,

“in the morning of that fateful day, I boiled water for the deceased to bathe, after which I served her her meal, before I killed her.

Thereafter I packed the dirty plates outside to wash them. As I opened the door and stepped on the veranda, something just came into my body as if possessing me. I no longer know what I was doing and I abandoned the plates I was supposed to wash. I stood on the stone, and later took it, went inside with it and hit it on her head,” she added.

“I do not know what entered my body. It was a spirit. It told me to go and kill her. She did not offend me”.
