Religion / Parable Of The Rich Man And Lazarus: What Was The Sin Of The Rich Man? by irynterri(f): 7:27am On Jan 07, 2018 |
Happy New Year to every one. The discussion today is the story of the rich man and Lazarus, let us read the Bible verse before the discussion. Luke 16:19-31New International Version (NIV) The Rich Man and Lazarus 19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ 25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’ 30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ 31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Dikemaria:personally I believe Mary did not have any other children because of the incidence at the cross as recorded in John 19:26-27 when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near by, he said to her, woman behold your son and to the disciple behold your mother and from that moment the disciple took her to his home. Even if you read history, it is on record she lived with the apostle John in present day Turkey till she died, please if she had other children or her husband was till alive, would she have lived her whole life with another person? would Jesus had bothered handing her over till she died? personally I'm of the opinion that it is only someone that does not believe that Jesus is God that would believe that she had other children. If you believe that the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word was God.....and the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us as testified in the Gospel of John chapter 1 then you will understand that it is not possible for the womb that carried God to carry a mortal man, if you understand how powerful Jesus is that John the Baptist described himself as not fit to undo the straps of his sandals you will understand that the breasts that suckled him cannot suckle a mortal man. May the Good Lord grant us wisdom,Amen 3 Likes |
Religion / Re: Why Do We Celebrate Christmas? by irynterri(f): 7:10am On Dec 26, 2017 |
muller101:I don't know where to start from but the problem here is you do not understand the history of the Holy Bible and if you do not understand the history of something, how will you understand what it contains?.Each book(scripture) were written independently at different times, places, languages etc. e.g Genesis and Exodus were reportedly written by Moses before 500 B.C , the book of Luke by the apostle Luke around 50 A.D and Revelations by the Apostle John who recorded his visions in the first century. All these books existed individually although part of the old testament made the Jewish Torah. Early Christians read each scroll individually, It was later on close to 1000years later some scriptures were compressed into one and others were not added and they were arranged according to the sequence of the events from the creation of the world to the prophecy of the world to come, just like the way we had key point biology, key point chemistry, key point physics separately then the author will one day compose key point science encompassing all of them. Having said this, the Rev 22 verse you quoted is simply telling the Apostle John what will happen to anyone who attempts to alter the writings of his prophecy e.g I decide to write my own Bible and say it was revealed to apostle John that the number will be 1 million not 144,000 or the date of Christ coming was revealed to be 1st January 2018 etc. P.S I don't really understand who attempted to add Christmas day to the Bible. Before Jesus Left he blessed his disciples and told them in Matt 16:19 I have given you the keys to the kingdom of heaven, whatsoever you permit on earth is permitted in heaven and whatsoever you loose on earth is loosed in heaven. Why do you think he did this? Because his work on earth is to come and create the way while the work of others is to make it understandable. Paul who never met him was the one who ordered how the ministers would work. The apostles who met to break bread every first day of the week(sunday) did so without waiting for Jesus to tell them and so many things because they have the gift of the Holy Spirit. Not celebrating Christmas is not a sin just as Paul said but judging those that do I can't say for such because who exactly are you to judge for the Living God even worse is celebrating Christmas in sinful ways and increasing the prices of your goods during Christmas

there is nothing more dignifying to womanhood than a well clothed woman more especially when her hair is covered, I still remember going to the core north for the first time, though I'm not a Muslim but I was very impressed with the way the women dressed all covered both rich and poor, especially the rich, how they matched their abayas with a well styled hijab and walked with so much dignity, I was so impressed with womanhood, believe me you can't meet such women and insult them, you will even feel stupid trying to do so, I will always commend them as they seem to be one of the few women who are committed to make womanhood respected unlike those ones that strut around music videos, red carpets and magazines making women seem like mere sex objects, especially that FFK's Snow White that goes to church in cleavage baring, high slit dresses, besides who is FFK to talk about paedophilia with the high rate of child rape in the SW 6 Likes |

EMMAUGOH:I get your point, but in christainity have NO mentor or spiritual father, that is what Jesus meant when he said call no one your Father on earth,if your spirituality is tied to the way another man relates to God,you are worshipping God based on how you see your mentor worship him, once your mentor falls you too will fall,if you want to truly worship or believe in God, do that based on your love for your Heavenly Father, he who is perfect and cannot sin unlike a mortal man. P. S I would advise you talk to your "mentor" about his character, maybe your purpose in his life is to draw him away from sin, let the relationship be symbiotic,if he took you closer to God,do your own part to draw him away from sin 4 Likes 1 Share |

mansakhalifa:who is a Christian?a Christian is someone who believes and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. what is christainity? it is believing and following the teachings of Jesus Christ, Who is Jesus Christ? He is the Word as testified by John 1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.He was in the beginning with God, all things were made through him and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life and the life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcomed it...And the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us, full of Grace and Truth.I'm not here to argue on the divinity of God but the verse you quoted implies though he was God he did not boast or show or challenge God the Father, just like saying a humble crown prince is of high royalty like the king but gives him all the honor and Glory. As for the church, I never implied it means a building, in those days churches were in caves and catacombs as the Christians were been persecuted on the regular, it means a gathering of God's people. What did Jesus say? John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life, John 14:6 I am the Way, and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me, Does Judaism believe this? No, Should they be "Forced" to leave the Law of Moses and believe in the Grace of Jesus? No, that is why Christ said he did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, he came to ensure you and I who are not born Jews but Gentiles hence under the mosaic law are not "God's people" can attain eternal life. How then can that the possible if the High priests and people the temple do not believe in the saving Grace of Jesus Christ and do not hence believe that any one other than a Jew worship God in his temple, allow the Romans, Corinthians and other gentiles? Allow preaching of baptism and breaking of Bread? Allow people to preach that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, No they could not, instead they arrested, killed and harassed them, hence the early Christians had to form there own gathering and common place of worship on the first day of the week (acts 20:7) and that metamorphosed to the church we have now.Instructions were later been given by Paul in His letters to the Corinthians on how to appoint ministers, carry out activities, dress, code of conduct etc |

mansakhalifa:Let me start the by defining Christainity, it is simply following the teachings of Jesus Christ and Christians are those who follow his teachings, the apostles at first practiced a combination of Judaism and christainity this is evident in Acts 2:46-47 "And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And God added to their number day by day those who are been saved".Acts 2:38-42 testifies to the preaching of the Gospel by Peter saying "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the Holy Spirit....So those who received his word were baptized and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the Apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Baptism, breaking of bread, seeking forgiveness through Jesus are not part of the Jewish laws but Christ teachings, at first they fully did not understand their call just the same way even till after Christ death they did not fully understand he will rise again(Luke 24:11)so it was that they did not fully understand at first a worship was to be born, the temple also served as the greatest meeting point to get a large audience just like what facebook is today, hence they also went there to preach the Gospel, the very act which led to continuous imprisonment and harassment and also made them understand a new mode of worship will be formed, you quoted acts 21:27 but you erroneously did not state what he did that led to his arrest, at that point they understood that converted Gentiles can't be allowed to the temple or made to practice their own form of Judaism without them been killed hence they realized to worship in peace they had to have their own place where jews and gentiles can meet without discrimination. it would also be erroneous to say that the apostles practiced Judaism all through their lives because most of them lived outside Jerusalem e. g Paul lived and died in Rome, Mark in Egypt some India etc. Paul also preached the Grace(christainity) over Law(Judaism),in his letter to the Christians in Romans he described himself as Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy scriptures, the Gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and designated Son of God in post according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus.. Grace to you and peace from God the father and the son Jesus Christ, I believe this is not a teaching or faith under Judaism, the Roman,Corinthian,Ephesian Christians to whom Paul wrote letters to must have been meeting in a place for worship, most likely not a temple as there were instructions on how to appoint ministers, how women should dress, duties to be performed etc, that place is called a church, remember also that letters were sent to seven churches in the book of revelation. Lastly, a JEW does not only mean someone who practises Judaism it also means someone whose mother is a Jew,e.g Mark Zuckerberg is a Jew but he does not practice Judaism,Saul practiced Judaism under which he persecuted Christians but when he converted (to a follower of Jesus) he became Paul. Shalom |
