Munzy14: Today 13/10/16 our (999)variety is 20days old. so far NPK was applied yesterday. one table spoon for each sack. Ishaqteejay et al.A close look will show you how i did my trellis construction for staking of the vines. after digging a hole to fix the bamboo which is serving as a pole, then use a thread make horizontal binding of one pole to another. then followed by a vertical binding of the strings to form a.net like frame. tie at each end and make it strong to avoid sagging when your plants starts producing fruits. As, for irrigation am not using water from my fish farm. now am using a liquid fertilizer made with resources from the farm.Beauty of Agricuture.
they are looking fine, have you applied fungicide nd pesticide? and which ratio of npk??keep it up.
Mercie123: Woooooowwwww...just look at that! Your farm look really great. I hope to revamp this way too by God's grace. I've made more than enough mistakes already, I only made sure I learnt from each and everyone of them. Well done boss! Good to see you @Ishaqteejay

AniMcBen: Op I'm in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Can I still cultivate cucumber this year or is the planting season completely over? If I can still plant, when is the ideal planting time? Note I want to go sack style.
you can plant all season, you should buy a cucumber variety that is all year round (murano, darina, tokyo. etc) and have borehole or a well that can wter them if not in rainy season.
Mercie123: I decided to create this thread to show what I've been doing on the side based on the 'many many' things I've learnt on this forum and the burning passion to move our economy forward. vonxe: Pls am about to start the Project but mine is a mixture of cucumber and ugwu leaves. ishaqteejay I have these set of questions: 1. What is the size of the hose used in the drip irrigation. If I decide to ask in the market what type should I ask? 2. Can the mixture 2:1:3 also work for ugwu. Will also the fertigation work on ugwu? 3. Due to my schedule in school (MSc) can I leave the drip irrigation throughout the day even in the afternoon cos am considering that? I know I diverted to ugwu matter pls bear with me.
16 km drip line( hose) 3/4 2. Which soil? well loamy soil will work.or a little of sandy with top soil 3. For cucumber it will reach a time you need to water twice a day in hot season ,for ugwu man I don't no,oga sir you can plant anything you want ,there is no law
atanda2001uk: @mashnino, pls have you gone to kaduna? what are the outcomes? kindly share your experiences. thank u.
Also, @ Ishaqteejay, where can I get the indeterminate tomato seeds. I am interested in planting it. Or will it not grow here in Ibadan? thank u.
it will but you have to find one that has adapted with your own weather but I think it will to well in a green house.well you can order online I can sell it for you at 50 naira per seed
grace2all: Great thread, for the first time I am actually following post on nairaland and its really been great. I want to venture into vegetable farming, precisely tomatoes and pepper and I think I would love to do this sacck farming first in my backyard to learn while prepare towards going commercial. Thanks a great deal for all the info. Still following keenly though
i will like to see you start,so that you can learn better.
schneid: Good job ishaq. More grease to your elbow. I want to try this sack farming on a small piece of 3m * 8 m space in my compound. I have the following questions: 1) what no of rows would you advice and no of sacks per row. 2) can I mix the soil with fertilizer before filling in d sack. (If yes, ratio n fertilizer type) 3) do I need to perforate the bottom of the sack so as to reduce water content when there is excess rainfall. 4) for this small setup, do I need irrigation setup. Can't I just wet by sprinkling water. Thanks as I await your response.
Regards
Firstly where Do you stay? 1). it should be 2feet to 2.5feet between rows nd line up the sack within the row. 2). Top soil, cow dump, black soil@ ratio (2:1:3) 3). just a little becaus it is already done for you (cement bag) 4).I will like you to try using drip even local one if you have the means.
