You know nothing of where I am coming from. God sees all our hearts and will reward each person with what they have done. I will keep talking until women get the respect that men like you refuse to give them.

Nobody chooses their gender, you have no right to treat people as lesser beings just because you came to this world with a penis.

I never canceled out your opinion, so, treat mine with the same respect.

Thank you
Don't worry sis, your eyes will OPEN one day. Then in that far future igaecheta n'onwekwa onye n'agwagi ihe a mgbaanwu na Nairaland.

Omanbala tried to make you understand that indeed there's space for Chivalry in the Igbo world. All those highly dignified praise names set aside for women is what?!

The attempt to distill everything African in the brewery of Westernization is what will lead many astray. Let me ask pointedly young woman "are you conversant with your culture"? And I don't mean the peripheral way most ladies are with it these days. I ask you because even I marvel at the amount of power the women have in our culture. But of course many of these younger generation don't even have an idea.

I make bold to say here and indeed anywhere on earth that the Igbo perspective to marriage is virtually PERFECT. If you understand it.

Just oil the marriage with understanding. Gaskiya! You're home and dry.

they are only almost "unmarriable" in certain parts of the world. But it's not like marriage is an achievement. Marriage is another stage in life that comes with some unique responsibilities.
All these you're saying is just a consequence of Westernization and growing Eurocentrism. This thing you're saying is not US. I can say it's not African. And definitely it's not the Igbo life chaachaa. A woman can climb to the highest level and yet be a true AFRICAN mother. They are numerous who have achieved it. This ploy to do away with the family or to reduce it's significance among Africans is not good.

Spot on brother. U made the right point without mincing words.

few minutes ago she made a post on how she is about giving up on marriage but why won't she scare men away with such mentality of hers?

No man especially igbo man wants a wife who won't respect, regard and worship him as his king as a wife. It's the norm, tradition and culture of we igbos and if that is not obtainable in any union that makes an igbo man feel inferior and disregarded.

Humility, submission, regard, respect and love are the main components to build a loving home and if your igbo hubby gets these from you as a woman then u will be treated as a queen and deserving angel.

Make she dey follow chimamanda adichie who is happily married cheesy cheesy

thank you, Joebie.

So many Nigerian men want to be worshipped by their women, but don't want to worship their women.

They keep talking of what a woman should do, but have conveniently left out the man's part. Just yesterday, I read a thread by a divorce lawyer in Nigeria, a man at that, and he came to the conclusion that women in Nigeria are going through hell, disguised as marriage.

Nigerian men are scared of feminism because it means women have started having sense to call them out on their BS, it means more women are crawling out of abusive homes. It means they can't step all over their wives like their fathers stepped all over their mothers. The idea that women have rights at all, even less equal ones, disturbs them greatly. They will come here and tell you those aren't their fears and base it all on culture and tradition; a tradition that demeans women and treats them as lesser beings, especially the Igbo ones. Tradition that cut daughters off their fathers inheritance on the excuse that they will take it to their husband's house, as if on the average, women are not more likely to take care of aged parents than men.

But it is not the fault of the men, you cannot give what you don't have. It is society that made us all the way we are, and it is the same society that we mustt reconstruct. Change is constant and even cultures and traditions are subject to change. The inheritance law has been struck out and there will be more to come with time. We move

She has the right to preach her gospel just like you have the right to preach against it. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean she should put it in her handbag.

There are things she says I don't agree with and I throw it away, I barely even listen to Chimamanda, na my mama handbook I dey follow, let anybody that wants to follow her follow her.

God has given to every human being, a discerning mind. Let us all use it, and let those who believe her gospel go on with it. Those feminists you see on the internet, most of them are married.
Since that is what she wants to use her big stage for, the response should be NO. And she should have been put in her place long before now. But she can stay overseas no P. That's where they accept such rubbish.

Chimamanda is giving gospel that works for her, anybody that wants to take it and run with it is on their own.

I don't believe anyone ever says rubbish, even in seemingly stupid things, there is wisdom if you sieve through it. It behoves on a person to take what they want and leave what they don't want.

I am a moralist to a large extent; I don't believe in fornication, I don't believe in deceit and other such things, but I am not religious.

That I am a moralist, means that while I have ideas on what is right or wrong, I don't necessarily like to bother myself on what others do with their lives. I don't support the depravity that has become of this generation, but on some days, I genuinely don't care for it, while on others, I speak strongly against it.

Long and short is, while Chimamanda says a lot of disturbing things, she still says some sensible things occasionally.
The first paragraph: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. At this point in time such preaching is the LAST THING our young ladies need. It is totally wrong. We can see where it has lead the people who took that road and we don't want that for our own. Even with the little nonsense she has spilled some have taken her as their God. She should stick her gospel book in her handbag.

Even my grandma warns us not to think of marrying Americans. They tend not to have stable homes. Divorce rates there are something else
Oho! You see am?!

We shouldn't even go into the ripple effects of this Feminism Chimamanda is unto now. The ripple effects are catastrophic: Innumerable broken homes, countless and countless of such. Divorce rates, up and up and up. The family unit is almost completely destroyed among those people. You see my brother it's not everything someone sees outside that he or she should import and preach to our people. That is actually what inferiority complex is. It's not everything about blacks that is bad. The family unit is still preserved amongst Africans and that should not change for anything!

You no follow pesin dey house, but you know as she dey inside house.

Chimamanda chose to marry a man whose ideals are more Western than foreign, because she knew he wouldn't expect her to dump her career and her entire life to worship him and stroke his fragile ego, as a lot of man babies in Nigeria expect women to do.

She knows why she did not return to her village or any state in the East to get a husband, because a lot of Eastern men can never marry a woman like Chimamanda. She needed a man who was confident in himself and wouldn't feel like she was undermining him by being who she was. Her husband comes off as an problematic person, who allows his wife free reign to do as she pleases without imposing his ideals on her.

Chimamanda does not encourage anyone to be a LovePeddler, she encourages people to be who they want to be without having to be held back by society's perceptions. Someone as close-minded and biased as you are, can never understand such a concept.

Let me not wallow into those depths with you, because you're a walking stereotype I would rather not address.

PS: @islayer, I am not a feminist and wasn't trying to go down any feminist route, and all the people who saw that post before you didn't make that comment. Some men are paranoid and are quick to attach everything to feminism.
Once your "genderize" any issue like that you've gone into the realms of today's feminism. You just took a careless argument and divided it into man vs woman preferential treatment. Why? You can't make that point without taking it that way? That is how it starts. And no, Chimamanda goes beyond that with her shitty gospel that is misdirecting young ladies and leading them the wrong way.

Feminism is a bad deal for women in Africa. Equally opportunity and treatment is more like it. The feminist movement has been hijacked by the left wingers who have deviated from the left the original intent...which was equal opportunity for women. But trust black women to take every nonsense they read and swallow with passion. Today, you have Chimamanda who when she goes home she becomes an obedient wife but in the public she is a tiger...lmao. Chimamanda know that her husband will flung her in the street if she oversteps that's why she dont talk about her family but encourage black women to be whores!
Feminism, especially as preached in Nigeria, has greatly DERAILED from it's humble beginnings. Today, it is a TOTAL DISASTER! And a means of churning out BROKEN, DAMAGED young women. Check all of them, they're bad mannered, rebellious, insulting, unmarriable. The feminists today have left the core virtues and inclination to family to chase after stupid frivolities. I don't even see or hear Chimamanda talk about very disturbing issues facing the girl child like female genital mutilation or equal access to education or even equal playing field for both genders across profession. Or even be a louder and proactive voice against rape. Nada. She only goes about talking about how a woman shouldn't kneel to give her husband the wine during traditional marriage or how men shouldn't help a woman open the car door because it means the woman is weak or how women should not have to drop their maiden name for their husband's name or how women should keep multiple partners because men do the same. Just a load of complete rubbish! If I chance upon that lady one on one, in Igbo I will give her a dressing down she will take to her grave. Rubbish.

Nigerian league get tough on player attacks on referees

The organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League are determined to crack down on violence towards match officials
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has given a one-year ban to Nasarawa United's Paul Seun Komolafe for assaulting match officials during a top-flight game against Plateau United.

Komolafe was also found guilty of 'inciting the club supporters to commit violence against match officials.

The team's equipment manager, Aliyu Mohammed Hamzat, has been banned for life from all NPFL match venues and activities for same offence.

The North central club will also have to play their games behind closed doors for an indefinite period and given 10 days to pay a fine of 4,250,000 naira (US$11,700) for breaches of league rules.

The fine includes 1,250,000 naira ($3,500) compensation for the match officials.

Club spokesman Eche Moses was also fined $300 and cautioned for 'releasing or causing to be released, a written press statement unfairly criticising match officials, a conduct deemed capable of bringing the League to disrepute'.

Several attempts to curb violence in the West African nation's local leagues in the past have failed.

The League Management Company (LMC), who organise the NPFL, says it hopes that severe punishments such as these for clubs will serve as deterrent to protect match officials and the country's domestic football.

The LMC was set up in 2012 in an attempt to revive the troubled top-flight of Nigerian football blighted by leadership problems to TV rights and sponsorship disagreements, violence on the pitch, corruption off it and a badly organised calendar.

When I look at Nigeria, I see the game of thrones playing out.

Here, the hausa/fulanis are the Lannisters, they understand power for what it is and are willing to do anything to have it; thus, they can kill, cheat, manouver and stab their enemies in the back or cut their throats at weddings just for power. Just as Cersei told Jamie, "the lion does not concern itself with the opinion of the sheep.

I see the igbos as the Starks who are poor at playing politics and just like the Starks of Winterfell, the igbos have lost a lot of people both within and without their enclave. In the end, the Starks chose to remain a separate kingdom just as the igbos are fighting to have a separate country from Nigeria.

The people of the Niger-Delta can be likened to the Tyrells of Highgarden who have all the resources at their disposal but made a lot of bad choices and consequently lost everything to the Lannisters. Just as the Northerners are currently overseeing the resources of the Niger-Delta with Buhari as Petroleum Minister and another notherner as GMD of NNPC.

The people of Western Nigeria can be likened to the Greyjoys who share the same cardinal hemisphere with the Starks but the more powerful side of their kingdom has sworn fealthy to House Lannister who are in open rebellion with the Starks. Just as Euron Greyjoys killed his grand Uncle and became Lord of the Iron Islands, so also; Tinubu has dislodged all the powerful leaders of Western Nigeria to become Lord. He has also sworn allegiance to the North while the minute inconsequential few like FFK can only wish for a stronger Southern Nigeria. And there are others who favour restructuring. So, Western Nigeria has no definite stance. They are neither here nor there.
Great!
