Soldiers lobby to get posted there. Nigeria is the world's capital of corruption and illegality. Come to think of it, it's even an eyesore to have Soldiers gallivanting the whole place when the country is not at war. In saner climes this is not the case. In Nigeria Soldiers will have checkpoints, raid criminal hideouts, direct traffic, settle dispute, mount patrol, arrest civil offenders. So what is the job of the Police? Can we now see Nigeria is confused |

I used to hear people complain of Nigerian policemen a lot. I really didn't get it maybe because they were usually on my side: My dad likes making them friends with them.
I didn't realize how wicked these people were until I went to bail my friend who was whisked during mass arrest and they requested 50k and kept me begging under the sun for the next 4 hours. |

They're frustrated. Their economy is not very vibrant and on top of that Nigeria's economy on which they're dependent on has been on steady decline in recent times, yet on top of that Nigeria has shut her borders taking most of their traders out of business. And envy to all that frustration and you get this.
Nigeria's move to shut her borders is ill thought as usual and insensitive. |

Ending January, 2020 was slated for the reopening. What is then "no date fixed?". The people who have suggested shutting the borders did not consider Nigerians who are also doing legitimate haulage business across these borders. Such people's means of livelihood have been crippled and it's not like the government is one that provides jobs.

We had gone onto our street then in Okota and everything was smooth until the way back home after that first driving lesson. On getting to our gate instead of me to slow down, i drove straight to the gate of our compound. The gate came down with some part of the fence and the beetle was a write off. I felt really bad for my sister`s husband because he was carrying that car like egg. When he found out , he felt dumbfounded and sat on the ground with his hands on his head. Lollllllllllllll. Completed my program in six days. Only challenge was releasing the clutch, on the first day. I kept releasing it too quickly and the instructor became frustrated, which didn't help. Finally, I got the car moving and we entered the expressway. I was a bit scared whenever I see a tipper coming towards me. After that first day, it was all good.
It's funny reading comments here from people saying reversing and steering at the same time was difficult. Or they didn't see the need for their mirrors. Or returning steering after turning. Lolllll. That one na common sense na.
But I later destroyed my neighbor's Golf when I wanted to repark the car. I just drove the car like a demented person, a rookie mistake. He used about 30k to get that car working again. |

safarigirl: the only reason you think like this is because you are not Igbo and you have been exposed to Western ideals. If you are Igbo, you cannot reason like this.
In Igbo land, women are viewed as chattel, to be passed on from their fathers to their husbands. Much like how English women were viewed in the Victorian era.
I am just glad my father had no such training, his mother was the first female graduate from the East, so, she was not trained to be a doormat. He is well aware of what a woman should aim for; he constantly tells us that marriage should not be the aim of anyone, rather, financial independence and self sufficiency. If you cannot be useful to yourself, is it in a man's house you will be useful? I really really really didn't want to bring this up again but this is way too much of a slight. And to think I look at you as a sister. Lesson learnt. cc Omanbala1 |

Chidonsky: I detest feminist and feminism,i wonder if this crusaders continue with this what the female generation will look like in 10yrs time. Most of those canvassing for this were victims of bad relationship experience.I think feminism should center more on fighting against abuse on girls child, domestic violence, child mutilation and bad cultural pratices against the girl child.Afterall we all need love, care, respect, irrespective of the gender. We can't make a better world with inconsequential strife. The number of divorce is on the increase because of feminism and fight of supremacy,God never made woman with the purpose of her to strive with man but for both to work together to make their life and society better.Wisdom is profitable to direct, rather seek for wisdom than knowledge because most knowledge is infiltrated with nausating ideology. Blueelf: Although this is a football thread, I must admit that I have learnt a lot about culture and feminism from the respectful (a bit) exchanges between monickers here. Keep up the good work.
I still don't subscribe to the idea of calling unmarried females in their late 20's or early 30's evening newspaper. Its a negative word. A lot of factors could be responsible for late marriages. It could be sickness, late education or even personal choice and not necessarily because the said person wasn't a suitable husband or wife.
However, I must also add that the bad attitude of some females may be responsible for their late marriages. Some are very uncouth and bad-mannered. They may also have a fantastical idea of the kind of suitor they want (tall, well chiselled abs, very rich and handsome like adonis). Very few African men meet these criteria. Also, it doesn't matter how beautiful you are or how many degrees or cars you have, a disrespectful AFRICAN lady will lack good suitors. You attract people of similar behaviours to you.

safarigirl: You will slap me for exposing your lack of knowledge and ignorance? Is that what strong, black men do? Do you find pride in such utterances?
I have told you how the female inheritance was abolished. You may not care, but at least, one woman changed a culture that was against women and many more will rise to do more for a maligned group in society.
A WOMAN did it. Put that down in your history books I'm playing with you and you're vibrating like I pass my neighbor. Cheap points or what?! The law is now in place and even my aunts got huge inheritances to their names just last December. I'm totally for it and it's a forward move. So the point you wanted to use to drive your women subjugation argument is Dead On Arrival and you're only chasing shadows some more. And it doesn't matter if a woman did it, she didn't do it for women she did it for the Igbo race. Understand that and you'll live happier. |

safarigirl: The major reason females now inherit property in Igbo land is because of the landmark case of Ukeje vs. Ukeje, decided in 2014, where the Supreme Court held that denying a female child of her inheritance is against the rules of equity, natural justice and good conscience, it is not because a group of elders sat down and changed the culture.
A young woman felt slighted by the culture and had to take her mother and brother to court to secure that judgment and the victory for Igbo women around the world.
Guy, don't come and tell me about culture. I have told you, it is not every discussion that is for the internet. I will slap this little girl o. Lol. See this one playing sophistry with me. Don't try to be cheeky. The Igbo culture has now upgraded such that Female offspring can now acquire property. Kponkwem! Who cares if it's 2 imbeciles that made it reality. Lwkmd for here. safarigirl: My eyes have been open for a long time.
I know why I said you know nothing of me.
Nobody doubts that Igbo men have given women some level of independence, after all, they are the only ethnic group that prefers to send their daughters to school than their sons, but in the same vein, there is a high level of misogyny in Igbo land. The inheritance scenario is one of such examples.
This discussion is inexhaustive and cannot be fully trashed on the internet, some things are better stated in person and not on the internet.
Let us leave things as is, there is no end to this discussion as long as it is here. You see am Safari. You see am! You're not in sync with the culture and you're not updated! You're talking misogyny but you don't even know that females now inherit property in Igboland. And I asked how conversant you are, of which I now know you're not. If you were, you will know that there's no serious occasion that will be carried out SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION if the women were not carried along. It is impossible! If they have been relegated and hated and disrespected and subjugated, will the above be possible?! If I knew your native name I would CALL your CHI from here to wake up and direct you properly. Anyways, I will leave this now. This is not the place nor the time. |
