Crime › Man Arranged For Defiling His 10-year-old Half-sister by Islie(op): 2:24pm On Jun 05, 2015 |
Anigbo said the accused on the fateful day called the victim and asked her whether she had taken her breakfast and the victim answered in the affirmativeA 32-year-old man, Sunday Aneke, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Federal High Court in Enugu for defiling his 10-year-old half-sister.
The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of defiling and raping a child old enough to be his daughter.
The counsel to the plaintiff, Jude Anigbo, said in July 2014, the accused forced his half-sister into bed.
Anigbo said the accused on the fateful day called the victim and asked her whether she had taken her breakfast and the victim answered in the affirmative.
He said the suspect ordered her to take her bath and it was while she was applying cream to her body after the bath that he locked her in and warned her not to raise an alarm.
He said: “The accused forced her into bed and started raping her.
“He raped her for about three hours and the victim lost consciousness, which made the accused person to run away.
“Luck ran out of him as he was coming out of the room with blood stains on his cloth and a man who was coming into the house saw him.”
On his side, the counsel to the accused, Joseph Ugwuogbo, said his client did not rape the victim as he was not in the village that faithful day.
Ugwuogbo said the victim’s mother set the accused up because she was not on talking terms with his mother.
Justice Dorothy Agishi adjourned the case to July 18 for continuation of hearing.

Politics › Stop Chasing Foreign Helps, Balarabe, Others Tell Buhari by Islie(op): 6:57am On Jun 05, 2015 |
FOURTEEN opposition parties under the aegis of Credible Alternative Alliance on Thursday in Abuja said it was “too early” for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to be relying on foreign countries for support and direction on certain policy issues pertaining to governance.
The CAA, which also includes 13 civil society organisations, restated their resolve to provide a credible opposition to the All Progressives Congress.
Congregrating under the CAA are the Social Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party, Fresh Democratic Party, Nigeria Advance Party, People’s Salvation Party, Change Advocacy Party, United National Party for Development, Peoples Progressive Party and the Action Party of Nigeria.
A former governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa; elder statesman, Dr. Tunji Braitwaite and former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, who spoke at a press briefing by the National Coordinator of CAA, Dr. Damian Ogbonna, on Thursday, said Buhari’s administration’s “ability and readiness to meaningfully govern Nigeria remain in doubt.”
The elder statesmen said, “We note that APC appears to want to cultivate and rely too much on the support of foreign governments. This is not good for the sovereignty of our nation. CAA calls upon APC to rely less on foreign support. The party should do more to cultivate domestic support and more so from political parties in the country. You cannot govern effectively when you do so alone; it is not sustainable.
“In conclusion, we wish the new administration well. However, its ability and readiness to meaningfully govern Nigeria remain in doubt. We pray, wait and hope for clarity in the days to come.
“Both the President and other leaders of APC have been in government for decades to warrant knowing exactly what they want to do and how they want to do it. Even those of us here at CAA with less than a year into our formation do have bold and visionary plan upon which we predicate our drive to govern Nigeria.”
According to them, when people lay claim to the ability to solve problems, it is taken for granted that they have diagnosed the problem and have ready solutions “otherwise, it amounts to a claim in deception and an exercise in futility.”
The CAA, according to its promoters, is formed to defend and advance progressive, democratic and patriotic entities and ideals in Nigeria “against reactionary tendencies of a rudderless and immensely corrupt governing system.”
Ogbonna said that after a careful review of the inaugural speech of Buhari and the current state of the nation, the CAA found the speech “embarrassingly tall on promises but depressingly short on vision and boldness.”
He said, “We searched for a silver lining in the speech laying out a new framework for the emergence of the new Nigeria of our dreams, and found none. There is no qualitative difference between the 2015 Presidential Inauguration speech and the inaugural speeches of past presidents.
“The President talked about enormous challenges; insecurity, pervasive corruption, fuel and power shortages and so on, but in no paragraph of his speech did he lay out new initiatives, new directions, new structures, new federation, new constitution or even new sets of legislation to tackle these enormous challenges.” http://www.punchng.com/news/stop-chasing-foreign-helps-balarabe-others-tell-buhari/

A journalist in Ondo State was seriously brutalised and beaten to a pulp by some police officers in that state.Another journalist has fallen a victim of the overzealous police officers of the Ondo State Police Command after he was brutalized by the officers for carrying out his legitimate duties.
[b]Victor Akinkuolie, a reporter with the state-owned Hope Newspaper, reports say, was set up by policemen from the Yaba Divisional Police Station in the state and beaten to a state of comatose for daring to challenge a police patrol vehicle which was parked in the middle of the road, causing serious traffic.[.b]
The victim who sources say has been a thorn in the flesh of the police for exposing their various high handedness, fell into the trap set for him by the officers who seized the opportunity to deal seriously with him and beat him to a pulp.
Narrating his bitter experience from his hospital bed where he is receiving treatment, Akinkuolie said he went out in the morning only to see the newly-distributed patrol vehicle of the station was parked in the middle of the road and blocked a major highway.
The media man said he immediately turned his vehicle and took another road, but the police officers later trailed him to Idi-ishin area in the town, where he was ordered by the police to come out of his vehicle.
He added that immediately he alighted, the police officers, five in number, beat him into comatose and it took the intervention of some newspaper vendors in the area, who were watching, to come to his rescue. http://pulse.ng/gist/not-again-journalist-brutalised-by-ondo-police-id3829035.htmlcc lalasticlala

Crime › Youths Abduct, Gang-rape 15-year-old Girl by Islie(op): 10:29am On Jun 04, 2015 |
Two youths have been arraigned in the Apapa Magistrate’s Court for alleged abduction and rape of a teenage girl, Faith (pseudonym).
The suspects ─ Jamiu Yusuf (19) and 20-year-old Rilwan Oduntan ─ had reportedly approached the girl on May 12 around 8pm in front of her residence on Onigide Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos, for direction to a street in the neighbourhood.
As she was leading them to the location, they reportedly turned violent, overpowered and whisked her away to their residence where they took turns to rape her.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim confided in her mother, who reported it at the Ijora Badia Police Division, leading to the arrest of the duo.
Faith told the police that her efforts to resist the act were futile as she was forced to rounds of sexual assaults.
She said, “I was in front of my house, when they came to meet me and ask for direction to a street. I offered to help them, not knowing that they had plans to abduct and rape me. When we got halfway to the street, they suddenly grabbed my hands and forcefully took me to their house. They locked me up in the room and took turns to rape me.”
Yusuf and Oduntan were arraigned before a chief magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya, on two counts of abduction and rape.
A police prosecutor, ASP Olusoji Ojaokomo, told the court that the case had been investigated by the police and the suspects were found culpable of the crime.
“The accused conspired to abduct the girl and forcefully had carnal knowlegde of her without her consent,” he added. The charges ready, “That you, Jamiu Yusuf and Rilwan Odutan, on May 12, 2015, at about 8pm on Onigide Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos, in the Apapa Magisterial District, did have sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
“That you, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did abduct the girl and have sexual intercourse with her, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 267 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offences, claiming that the girl willingly succumbed to the act.
Adekomaya ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and admitted them to bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety each in like sum. The sureties were also required to tender evidence of tax payment and their residential addresses to the court for verification.
The magistrate added that the defendants should be remanded in prison custody, pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
He adjourned the case till June 18, 2015. http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/youths-abduct-gang-rape-15-year-old-girl/

Crime › Nigerian Woman Shot Dead By White Boyfriend[PICTURE] by Islie(op): 5:15pm On Jun 03, 2015 |
A young Nigerian lady has been shot dead in the United States of America by her white boyfriend. A 24-year-old Nigerian woman, Mariam Folashade Adebayo, has been shot dead by her white boyfriend in Germantown, Maryland, USA, reports Montgomery County Police.
The report has it that Adebayo and her 27-year-old boyfriend, Donald Wayne Bricker, had an argument at the parking lot of a Target retail store and the argument got out hand when Bricker pulled out a gun and shot at her before fleeing in a white pick-up truck.
Police received multiple 911 calls about the shooting and when officers arrived the scene, they found Adebayo unconscious and rushed her to a hospital where she battled to stay alive for a few hours before giving up the ghost.
The police officers were given a description of the car Bricker fled in and it was broadcast on the radio for all officers to be on the alert.
The truck was later located and given chase when Bricker refused to stop for officers. He later had a crash and was arrested.
It was gathered from family members that Adebayo and Bricker had dated for only six months and she had to call off the affair when he would not stop beating her.
Police say the estranged lovers had planned to meet at the shopping center to talk when tempers flared leading to her murder. She was University of Maryland graduate of Public Health. http://pulse.ng/gist/brutal-murder-nigerian-woman-shot-dead-by-white-boyfriend-id3824835.html
