The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said its women in Kogi state were planning a 112-million man match for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi.

The PDP National Publicity Secretatary, Kola Ologbondiyan who received the women, at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, after they had met with Atiku’s wife, Hajiya Titi, said Atiku was receiving monumental support.

“We are dealing with a party that is vicious. So, we are working round the clock for our interest. The purpose is to reclaim power, rescue the nation and salvage the economy.

“Our presidential candidate has demonstrated that he will be president that will be in charge, and not a president who will run government by proxy. We are going to have a centralised campaign system. Any group intending to campaign for the party must come through us.

“Our campaign policy direction will be determined at the party level and our campaigns will be issue-based. Our candidate will deliver on campaign promises,” the PDP spokesman said.

Thirdly, I will have to throw the code for activists overboard Cos by maligning my party, you also insulted those of us from the same tradition that happen to call the PDP home.

Now, that I am done with introduction, can we now get right to it, shall we? Festus, for years now we have been letting you feed fat with a reputation as an “anti military era activist and human rights defender”. But Festus, let’s let the cat out of the bag.
In reality, you were a military apologist or your actions portrayed you as one.

Festus, when Gani Fawahinmi, Femi Falana, Baba Omojola, Segun Mayegun and others were arrested by the junta in 1992 and a decision was to be taken by the mass of students at a Congress in Ekpoma for a protest to be undertaken to ask for their release,did you not vehemently argue against it?Did you not mobilize to frustrate that move via counter revolutionary arguments until your plot was frustrated by the dialectical superiority of radical progressive elements on ground?
Chief Gani Fawehinmi overlooked this early trait of your treachery and still gave you a place in his Chambers following your call to Bar. How did you reward him?.

While you go about telling spurious stories about your fall out with Gani,isn’t it indeed true that at the heart of the kerfuffle was Gani’s disenchantment with the way you were handling the legal tussles and struggles with the military? He challenged Fayemi to provide details of the N117 billion debt, alleging that the incoming governor is “preparing excuses for his impending failure”.

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says contrary to claims by Kayode Fayemi, governor-elect of the state, the debt of Ekiti is pegged at N59.5 billion.

Reacting to a report by the Debt Management Office (DMO) that the debt profile of the state had risen from N18 billion when Fayemi left office in 2014 to N117 billion, the governor-elect had said God would judge Fayose.

But Fayose dismissed DMO’s position, saying the debt incurred by the state was inherited from Fayemi’s government.

He challenged Fayemi to provide details of the N117 billion debt, alleging that the incoming governor is “preparing excuses for his impending failure”.

“No loan can be granted without the approval of the Debt Management Office (DMO) and the Federal Ministry of Finance and that these two offices should publish details of any loan taken by the Fayose administration, including the banks that granted such loans,” the governor said in a statement issued on his behalf by Lere Olayinka, his spokesman.

“Unlike him (Fayemi) who was not courageous enough to answer questions on his administration before a duly constituted probe panel, Governor Fayose is not afraid of being probed either by the State or Federal Government.

“Ekiti State indebtedness stands at N59.5 billion that was either directly inherited from the Fayemi’s administration or incurred as a result of the loans restructuring done at the instance of the federal government and the Federal Economic Council.

“The debts are broken down as follows:Commercial Bank Loan, N2,087,788,065.28; CBN Grant for Water Project, N163,450,000; Excess Crude Account Backed Loan, N9,545,173,472.78; Bailout, N9,083,761,215.40; FGN Bonds, N18,226,699,707.18; State Bonds, N3,484,469,345.51 and Budget Support, N16,869,000,000.

“Particularly, the N10 billion grant released from the Excess Crude Account for capital projects was fund that should normally accrue to all States.”

Olayinka alleged that the federal government was intentionally withholding the Paris Club refund accruable to Ekiti, with the intention of paying when Fayemi resumes office.

This, he said, is the reason the state government is yet to clear its salary backlog.

“Most importantly, we admit that the state workers are being owed four months’ salary and this was occasioned by the monthly deductions from the State allocation as a result of huge debt incurred by the Fayemi administration,” he said.

“Even the N9.5 billion bailout fund was for the payment of the arrears of salaries and deduction left unpaid by the Fayemi’s government.”

APC convention: Shape of unity list appears tomorrow as Tinubu’s candidates face pressure

A clear idea of Unity List to be pushed at this weekend’s national convention of All Progressives Congress, APC, will emerge tomorrow morning after a late night meeting of the party’s governors, Vanguard has learnt.

Ahead of the meeting, loyalists of a top South-West leader of the party in contention for national positions were under pressure with the emergence of strong contenders against some of them.

Vanguard gathered that APC governors are expected to convene in Abuja today after attending the flag-off of the party’s campaign for Ekiti State governorship election.

“The party’s governors will meet tomorrow and by Wednesday morning the unity list would have emerged and a clear picture of what is in stock will emerge,” a high level source revealed, yesterday.

Ahead of the meeting, it emerged that loyalists of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, particularly the deputy national chairman, Senator Lawali Shuaibu and his reported candidate for national secretary, Alhaji Kashim Imam, were facing unexpected last minute pressure from high quarters from within and outside the party.

There were indications that a North-West governor with interest in 2023 with strong connections with the president was marshalling the forces against Tinubu.

Vanguard learned that former member of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Farouk Adamu, a long time political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, was, yesterday, turning into a favoured candidate to replace Shuaibu.

Shuaibu is from the old Congress for Progressives Change, CPC, while Shuaibu is from All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, bloc, though he has been severally recognised as an associate of Tinubu.

Court Stops Ex-Kano Governor From Traveling Abroad


Justice Zainab Bage Abubakar of the Federal High Court sitting in Kano today June 13, 2018, refused an application by a former governor of Kano State Malam Ibrahim Shekarau for the release of his international passport to enable him to travel to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.



Shekarau approached the court with a motion on notice dated 28 May 2018 praying the court to direct its Deputy Chief Registrar to release his International Passport to enable him to travel to Saudi Arabia from May 30 to June 23, 2018, for lesser hajj.



In response to the motion, counsel for the respondent, Johnson Ojogbane filed a 9 paragraph counter affidavit opposing the motion. When the case came up today for a hearing, counsel to Shekarau, Abdul Adamu moved his application and adopted the written address attached to the application in his argument.



Ojogbane, on the other hand, moved his 9 paragraph counter affidavit urging the court to refuse the application.
Justice Abubakar in her ruling held that “after due consideration of the motion of the defendant applicant and the counter affidavit of the respondent I deem it unnecessary to release the passport of the defendant applicant as it is one of the conditions in the grant of his bail”. She subsequently refused and dismissed the application for lack of merit.

Shekarau was arraigned by the EFCC alongside two others, Aminu Bashir Wali and one Mansur Ahmed for allegedly conniving to collect the sum of N950,000,000 part of the $115,000,000 allegedly distributed by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deizani Alison-Madueke for the purpose of compromising the2015 general election.

Produce ‘Missing’ Offa Robbery Gang Leader — Civil Society Organisations Order Nigeria Police



coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has asked the Nigeria police force to produce Michael Adikwu, one of the arrested suspects in the Offa robbery incident.




Adikwu, who reportedly led the gang in the incident which occurred on April 5, 2018, is said to be missing.

Thirty-three people, including pregnant women and 12 police officers, were killed in the attack.



TheCable had reported that the fate of Adikwu — who confessed to have killed several policemen as a revenge for his “unfair” dismissal from the force — has become a subject of speculation.

At some point, he was not paraded alongside the other arrested suspects, and his name also removed from the list of suspects in a statement from the police.

Rumours have it that he was shot dead while in custody in other to coerce confessions from other suspects.

In a petition on Monday, the CSOs asked the police to immediately produce Adikwu, or be “dragged” to the International Criminal Court.

“If he (Adikwu) has been killed, the police should come clean and name his executors, this is in keeping with the Freedom of Information Act (FOI),” the petition signed by Collins Abu on behalf of the coalition read.

“We demand an immediate investigation into the disappearance of this suspect, and we ask respected international human rights organisations to call on the Nigerian government and the police to produce him.”

The CSOs also demanded an independent probe of the Offa robbery “because the police appear compromised”.

“Failure to produce him, we will petition the International Criminal Court and also petition all embassies with evidence so as to revoke visas of the IGP and other human rights violators,” they said.

Jimoh Moshood, police spokesman, had denied that the suspect was killed in custody.

“Who killed him?” he had asked in response to inquiries by TheCable, adding: “We will parade him soon, once they recover all the weapons.”

Fayemi challenges Fayose to open debate on Ekiti finances


The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has challenged Governor Ayodele Fayose to a public debate on how the two of them ran Ekiti finances in office.

Fayemi said the 800-page handover note he personally gave to Fayose when he assumed office contained how the finances he received while in office were managed.

The immediate past Minister of Mines and Steel Development spoke at a press briefing on Sunday after the inauguration of the state campaign council.

“I challenge Fayose to meet me in a debate and let us discuss what we did with the resources that we held in trust for Ekiti, that way we will know who is a better manager of Ekiti resources or who is a prodigal son,” he said

Fayemi stated this while responding to an allegation by the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party’s Chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase, that the former governor mismanaged N165bn allocation apart from other grants as governor between 2010 and 2014.


Oguntuase had in a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday wondered why Fayemi still took N25bn bond and N35bn commercial loans with nothing to show for the funds.

“In 2011, Fayemi got N40.5bn as monthly statutory allocations. In 2012, he got N39.8bn. In 2013, he got N44.3bn and in 2014, he got N40.1bn. Whereas, the Fayose administration got N28.2bn in 2015, N18.8bn in 2016 and N25.6bn in 2017.

“Apart from the above monthly allocations, Fayemi still got regular funds from the Excess Crude Oil Account, and IGR among others. Despite what Fayemi got, he still borrowed N25bn from the capital market and took N31bn commercial loans. The question is: What did he do with the money? Nothing.

“The N25bn bond and commercial loans, through which he mortgaged the finances of our dear state for 20 years, were spent on nothing. He proposed an event centre, it was never completed. He said he would build a new Governor’s Office, he only scraped a parcel of land near the House of Assembly Complex and did nothing. His new Ojaba Market, for which he erected a billboard at the entrance of the palace of Ewi, never saw the light of the day,” Oguntuase said.


But responding, Fayemi said, “The handover note contained both financial and administrative details of what we did in four years.

“I urge the PDP and others who wish to find out to visit every single community in Ekiti State. They would find what I did with Ekiti money. There is no community in Ekiti today that you can visit, even the hamlets, that you would not find the footprints of Fayemi.

“In every community, you would find schools and hospitals and community roads and markets that we built; you would find civic centres that we built. They are in all villages and towns in Ekiti. No fewer than 100 people benefited from the social security scheme that we provided. There are communities that received on the average N10m for social security scheme on regular basis.

“You will find those that we employed into the youth volunteer, Peace Corps, the teaching profession and many others.”
