A former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, has been flown to the United Kingdom for further treatment.

Our correspondent learnt that he was flown in a private jet belonging to a former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, on Friday night after receiving treatment at Euracare Multi-Specialists Hospital on Victoria Island, Lagos.



Bamidele and five others were shot at a reception rally organised for the All Progressives Congress candidate for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, at the party’s secretariat in Ado Ekiti on June 1.

He was flown to Lagos last Sunday in an air ambulance after doctors at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, extracted two bullets from his abdomen and leg.

A source told our correspondent on Saturday that Bamidele was flown to the UK on the insistence of Tinubu that he be exposed to treatment in line with best global practice. Recall that Bamidele served as a Commissioner for Information and Strategy under Tinubu.

“He (Bamidele) had started cracking jokes at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, where a surgery was performed on him before he was flown to Lagos for further treatment,” the source said.

Bamidele’s media aide, Ahmed Salami, confirmed that his principal has been flown abroad for “post-surgery management”. He also dispelled the rumour that Bamidele was flown abroad because of fears over his health.

“He (Bamidele) is fully stabilised, so there is no cause for alarm. He only went abroad for a post-surgery management and to get prepared for the task ahead. He actually walked into the plane.”

There were also indications that the riot policeman that fired the shots that injured Bamidele and the politician he escorted from Lagos were still in police custody.

Our correspondent gathered that the Police in Ekiti have concluded the orderly room trial of the policeman said to be serving with 20MPF in Lagos and that he would soon know his fate.



The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti, ASP Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed this to our correspondent in Ado Ekiti.

He said, ‘We have concluded the orderly room trial but there is a laid down procedure to follow. At the appropriate time, the public will know about it.”

Ikechukwu said the policeman was still recovering from the injuries he sustained when the mob lynched him.

He also confirmed that the unnamed politician was still in the custody of the police and would be charged to court as may be necessary for illegally engaging the services of the policeman.

Meanwhile, loyalists of Bamidele have said the shooting of their principal won’t derail their focus of actualising the victory of the APC in the July 14 election.

They pledged their commitment to the success of the APC governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, in the election.

The decision was reached during a meeting held at the residence of a former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Akin Olayisade, in Ado-Ekiti, which was a follow-up to a meeting earlier held with Fayemi at his residence in Isan Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has described former Governor Kayode Fayemi and a former governorship aspirant, Dayo Adeyeye, as politically spent forces who cannot contest and win any credible election in the state.

“The duo are birds of the same feather, flocking together. They never won any credible election in their lives. So, they cannot appreciate credible election,” he said.
.
Fayose, who said this while addressing a large crowd of supporters in Iye-Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state, said the antecedents of the duo in politics confirmed that they had no political base or relevance in the state.

In a statement on Thursday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti, the governor also said it was because of Fayemi’s lack of political base that made him go about saying federal might was what he and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would deploy to win the July 14 governorship poll.

“Has Fayemi ever won any election in Ekiti State? No. Even the primary election of the then Action Congress that preceded the 2007 general elections was manipulated to favour him.

“In 1999, as Alliance for Democracy (AD) candidate, he lost to PDP’s Gbenga Aluko. It was only Adeyeye that lost his senatorial election to a Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the South West. In the primary of the Action Congress in 2006, he lost and in protest, he defected to the PDP.

His profile has only been boosted with political appointments rather than election.

“He was appointed the Chairman of Ekiti SUBEB under a PDP- led government. By God’s grace, I was instrumental to his appointment as a minister under President Goodluck Jonathan. I later appointed him the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ekiti State University. I also got him the position of the National Publicity Secretary of our party, now he is claiming to be what he is not,” he added.

The governor expressed confidence that the PDP candidate in the poll, Prof Kolapo Olusola, would emerge victorious in the coming election.

Blame Ondo Governor, Akeredolu, Fayemi For Return Of Bloodshed To Ekiti


Today, the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate,  Dr. Kayode Fayemi invaded Ekiti State with armed policemen and thugs, throwing  the State that has been peaceful since the advent of Governor Ayodele Fayose's government into bloodshed.



Akeredolu led the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate,  Dr. Kayode Fayemi to Ekiti in a show of federal might and in the process, seven people were hit by police bullets.



At the APC secretariat,  one of the mobile policeman, was said to  be using his gun to push away the thugs brought from Ondo State and the hoodlums in turn dragged the gun with him, leading to sporadic shootings that left six persons shot. 


One of those injured was Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele. Five others also had gunshot injuries.



The APC thugs backed by armed policemen later went on rampage at Ojumose area of Ado Ekiti, destroying the canopies and chairs in from of the residence of late Prince Adegoke. 


One of the Teargas cannisters fired by the policemen hit a Taxi driver,  Odeyemi Olumide badly injuring him.  He is now receiving treatment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, alongside five others who were shot at the APC secretariat.


As usual, the APC went to town with story that the policeman who fired the shots at the party secretariat was fake.


However, information available to us is that the policeman was brought from Ondo State by Governor Akeredolu. 


Consequently, we challenge the Police authority to release the identity of the police officer to the police and how he left Akure for Ado Ekiti. 



We also wish to alert the public of the possibility of the APC shenanigans plotting to assassinate the policeman so as to sustain their lie that he is fake. 



We make bold to say that Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State and Dr Fayemi must be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Ekiti State.  We are aware of their mobilisation of thugs from Ondo State to Ekiti for the July 14. The governor even reportedly boasted that he was ready to spend two months allocation of Ondo State on Fayemi's election.



The first manifestation of Governor Akeredolu's plot to ensure that Ekiti is taken by force was the bloodshed witnessed in the State today. 



Lastly, let Governor Akeredolu and his stooge, Kayode Fayemi know that Ekiti is not a state to be taken by force and annexed to Ondo State by anyone,  our people will resist the APC agents of bloodshed.

$16bn on power: I am ready for probe, Obasanjo replies Buhari

A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, says he is ready for probe over the recent news report quoting President as asking where was the power the former president claimed he had spent $16bn on.

This was contained in a statement credited to Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, released in Abeokuta on Tuesday evening.

Obasanjo had said in the statement that this was not the first time such question would be asked as the immediate past administration before Buhari had done the same thing.

He said all the enquiries and probes carried out had vindicated him and cleared him of any corrupt acts concerning the $16bn spent on power during his administration.

He said Buhari was merely re-echoing unsubstantiated allegation by the previous administration based on ignorance.

Obasanjo also directed those who want to know how the $16bn on power was spent to his three-volume book ‘My Watch’ for a comprehensive analysis.

However, he said if they were not satisfied with his acquittal by the various probes by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and National Assembly Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of the Recommendations in the Report of the Committee on Power on the project, he was ready for yet another round of a probe.

The statement read, “It has come to the attention of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo that a statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari, apparently without correct information and based on ignorance, suggested that $16 billion was wasted on power projects by a former President.”

“We believe that the President was re-echoing the unsubstantiated allegation against Chief Obasanjo by his own predecessor but one.

“While it is doubtful that a President with proper understanding of the issue would utter such, it should be pointed out that records from the National Assembly had exculpated President Obasanjo of any wrong-doing concerning the power sector and has proved the allegations as false.

” For the records, Chief Obasanjo has addressed the issues of the power sector and the allegations against him on many occasions and platforms, including in his widely publicised book, My Watch, in which he exhaustively stated the facts and reproduced various reports by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which conducted a clinical investigation into the allegations against Chief Obasanjo, and the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Review of the Recommendations in the Report of the Committee on Power on the Investigation into how the Huge Sums Of Money was Spent on Power Generation, Transmission And Distribution between June 1999 and May 2007 without Commensurate Result.

“We recommend that the President and his co-travellers should read Chapters 41, 42, 43 and 47 of My Watch for Chief Obasanjo’s insights and perspectives on the power sector and indeed what transpired when the allegation of $16 billion on power projects was previously made.”

Ekiti Poll: APC kicks as court okays hearing on suit seeking to disqualify FayemiA High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Bwari, has okayed hearing on a suit challenging eligibility of the Minister of Mines and Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to participate in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled to hold in Ekiti State on July 14.

Justice Othman Musa ordered service of hearing notices on both Fayemi and the All Progressives Congress, APC, to enable them to appear in court on June 7 for hearing of the case.

The government of Ekiti State was equally cited as the 3rd Defendant in the suit marked FCT/HC/BW/CV/57/2018, which was lodged before the court by African People’s Party, APP. Specifically, APP, through its lawyer, Mr. Johnmary Jideobi, is praying the court to determine “Whether or not upon a calm reading of Section 182 (1) (i) of the 1999 Constitution as Amended and having regard to the indictment of the 1st Defendant by the Ekiti State Judicial Commission of Inquiry, the 1st Defendant is not Constitutionally disqualified to hold public office especially office of the Governor of Ekiti State of Nigeria?

“Whether or not upon a sober reading of Section 182(1) (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, a political party [such as the 2nd Defendant herein] can validly sponsor a candidate [such as the 1st Defendant herein] constitutionally disqualified from vying for the office of a Governor of a State?”

Against the background of the answer(s) that may be given to the questions of law, the plaintiff, claims the following reliefs from the court, against the Defendants: “A declaration that upon a calm reading of Section 182 (1) (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended and having regard to the indictment of the 1st Defendant by the Ekiti State Judicial Commission of Inquiry, the 1st Defendant is Constitutionally disqualified to hold public office especially office of the Governor of Ekiti State of Nigeria.

“A solemn declaration that upon a sober reading of Section 182(1) (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, a political party [such as the 2nd Defendant herein] cannot validly sponsor a candidate [such as the 1st Defendant herein] constitutionally disqualified from vying for the office of a Governor of a State.

“An order of this Honourable Court restraining the 2nd Defendant from either considering, screening, accepting and or sponsoring the 1st Defendant or holding him out as its governorship candidate in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled to be held in Ekiti State of Nigeria on the 14th day of July, 2018”. However, APC has challenged the competence of the suit, even as it urged the court to dismiss it for want of merit. APC and Fayemi, through their lawyer, Mr. Rafiu Balogun, filed a joint preliminary objection against the suit. In a 28-paragraphed counter-affidavit that was deposed to by one Oluwaseun Odewale, APC told the court that it was “flabbergasted” by Report of the Ekiti State Commission of Inquiry that indicted Fayemi. According to APC, “The most worrisome aspect of the Report is the purported barring of Dr. Kayode Fayemi from holding public office for 10 years when the Ekiti State is not a court of law”. On his part, Fayemi maintained that he was not accorded fair-hearing by the Justice Silas Bamidele Oyewole-led eight-man panel of Inquiry that indicted him over alleged embezzlement and contract fraud.

“I know as a fact that the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, acting pursuant to the resolution of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, constituted Commission of Inquiry to look into finances of Ekiti State between 2010 to 2014. “I know as a fact that Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the 1st defendant, challenged the legality and the constitutionality of the Commission of Inquiry on diverse grounds and he specifically raised the issue of the composition of the Commission further Inquiry which was deliberately constituted in such a way that Justice and fairness cannot be guaranteed to all the parties.

“I know as a fact that some of the members of the Commission are civil servants and the Chairman of the Commission a retired Acting Chief Judge has an axe to grind with the 1st defendant and was waiting for an opportunity to have his pound of flesh”. Fayemi told the court that he had upon realising that he would not get fair-hearing, instituted an action to query the legality of the Commission of Inquiry. “I know as a fact that it was the Tender Board of Ekiti State that awarded contract and specifically the building contracts were handled by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Public Utilities which had been managed by the Ministry of Works and Transport.

“I know as a fact that there was no evidence that the contract sum for the Utra-Modern Market was ever disbursed to any company or diverted by anybody.

“I know as a fact that the Commission of Inquiry merely invited Dr. Kayode Fayemi as a Witness to appear before them to give evidence on specific issues related to 852m UBE/SUBEB Loan claimed to be embezzled by Dr. Kayode Fayemi and now found to be withdrawn by the Bank itself When Governor Fayose threatened not to pay the Loan”, the deponent added.

Trouble in the House of God: Buhari’s cash gift divides CAN



National Christian Elders Forum, NCEF, is accusing the leadership of the Christian of Nigeria (CAN) of corruption and abuse of office.




Specifically, the forum alleged that the leadership of the umbrella organisation for Christians in Nigeria collected N25 million or N40 million from the Presidency during a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari, criticising the action and calling for sanction. It also alleged that the CAN leadership bought official vehicles at questionable prices.


The CAN President, Rev. (Dr) Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, dismissed the allegations, branding them as “a catalogue of lies” designed to smear his reputation.

In a memo, titled ‘NCEF Protests: Is NEC of CAN Guilty of Negligence?’, and signed by the Chairman, Elder Solomon Asemota, SAN, on behalf of members, including, but not limited to retired Generals Joshua Dogonyaro, Zamani Lekwot, Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma; Elder Matthew Owojaiye, Justice Kalajine Anigbogu (ret.), Elder Shyngle Wigwe, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Pastor Bosun Emmanuel (Secretary), NCEF is calling on the National Executive Council, NEC, to investigate alleged high handedness of the CAN President.


According to the memo, NEC should immediately convene an emergency meeting to consider the issues raised and set up the process for the investigation of Ayokunle and immediate suspension of the President of CAN, until all these allegations have been investigated and he is cleared of wrong doing.

Continuing, the memo urged the NEC to ensure that the investigation looks into the activities of other officials of CAN on whose heads allegations of wrong doing and misconduct hang.

The Christian Elders argued that it has the statutory right to “make its position public to all Nigerian Christians and alert them that, if Christianity is destroyed in Nigeria or Christians continue to get slaughtered, the present NEC of CAN should be held responsible.

NCEF began its memo by expressing its condolence to CAN and all Christians in Nigeria on the death of Dr. Musa Asake, CAN Secretary General, on Friday, May 11, 2018.

The memo went on to level the allegations against the CAN to include corruption, high handedness and abuse of office. It alleged that a vehicle that was purportedly purchased for the use of the CAN Vice President at a cost of N11 million in Cotonou was being sold in Nigeria at N5 million. Dr. Ayokunle is yet to explain what happened to N6 million. In all, N43 million was spent to purchase four second hand vehicles in Cotonou. This allegation is too big to be swept under the carpet. (This vehicle is parked at the National Christian Centre, Abuja),”the Christian Elders said.


They went on: “On the 10th of November, 2017, a delegation of CAN, led by the President of CAN, Rev. Dr. Ayokunle, met with President Muhammadu Buhari and, after the visit, collected ‘transportation’ money. While informed sources claim it was N40 million, CAN officials insist it was N25 million and it was alleged to have been shared by somebody who is not an official of the National Secretariat of CAN.

“NCEF insists on proper investigation of how the money was shared and how much each person received. In addition, NCEF insists on proper sanction of every Christian leader that took part in sharing money from President Buhari. It is unethical and very insensitive for Christian leaders to collect money from the man every Christian is aware has compromised security to the detriment of the Church”.

Saying the auditor presented a financial report to CAN that did not include the N43 million spent on vehicles in Cotonou, the memo said: “Where did N43 million disappear to?”. The group pointed out that NEC was yet to properly investigate how N28 million the former President of CAN provided before he left office, to minister to persecuted Christians, was spent”.

Continuing, the Christian Elders said various alleged infractions on the constitution of CAN, as listed by the Vice President of CAN, had to be investigated including the Report of the Mediating Committee, headed by Supreme Court Justice, Hon. Justice James Ogebe.


According to the memo, the attempt to use the Assistant General Secretary as scapegoat for the transactions in Cotonou has to be properly investigated and all those involved disciplined.

The group also said “the letter to DSS which Rev. Dr. Ayokunle refused to sign on 28th February, 2017, after he had agreed he would do so on 15th February, 2017, has to be investigated. It asked: “Why did he, as the President of CAN and as the Chairman of the CAN Trust Fund, refuse to append his signature to the letter? “Second, who gave the authority to edit the letter and remove substantial sections of it before the Legal Adviser eventually signed and sent a diluted document to the DSS?”

The Elders said CAN NEC was yet to investigate the tribal shift in appointments in the national offices and in the secretariat.

Reacting to the allegations, Ayokunle, who was attending a conference in Philadephia, United States, at the weekend, advised Sunday Vanguard to discountenance the charges as a “catalogue of lies.”

“There is no truth in what they are alleging. No truth at all in all the allegations. If they are after sanity in CAN, is it on the pages of newspaper that they intend to settle any dispute? Do Muslims behave like that about their leaders?”, the CAN leader said on phone.

“You know if these people are allowed to smear my reputation on the pages of the media, they have successfully finished the Church in Nigeria. They have already written that I should be removed because they did a kangaroo investigation which did not involve me.”

The federal government has confirmed that it is turning a co-accused in the trial of Sambo Dasuki to a prosecution witness.


Salisu Shuaib, who was initially charged alongside Mr Dasuki, will now give evidence against the former National Security Adviser.

For the second time in 24 hours, the federal government on Thursday brought a 25-count amended charge against Mr Dasuki. But he was granted another bail by Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf of an Abuja high court after denying all the charges.

Mr Dasuki has been in detention for over two years despite being granted bail by different courts.

The Sokoto prince, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was re-arraigned along with a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda; former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa; his son, Sagir Dalhatu; and their family company, Dalhatu Investment Limited.


However, like the charge of Wednesday, former Director of Finance and Supply in the Office of NSA under Mr Dasuki, Salisu Shuaib, was dropped from the list of accused persons.

The counsel to federal government, Rotimi Jacobs, confirmed to journalists that after the examination of the report of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the alleged money diversion, it became imperative to drop Mr Shuaib from the charge.

Mr Jacobs said that instead of being a co-accused person, the former director of finance will now be used to as a witness to testify for the federal government in the trial of the five defendants.


Like the re-arraignment of Wednesday, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf ordered that the five defendants should continue to enjoy the bail granted in 2015 when they were first arraigned on the alleged offense.

Part of the charge against Dasuki was that he misappropriated and engaged in alleged criminal breach of trust by dishonestly transferring N3.5 billion into the account of Dalhatu Investment Limited, an offense punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code.

Mr Yuguda was alleged to have dishonestly misappropriated a whooping sum of $9.8 million, an equivalent of N1.9billion and another N200 million he allegedly transferred to the bank account of Jabbama Ada Global Services, an offense punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Act.


On their part, Messrs Bafarawa, Sagir and Dalhatu Investment were charged with dishonestly receiving N4.6 billion from the office of Mr Dasuki, an offense punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.

Aside the five defendants, prominent politicians were named in the charge as beneficiaries of the alleged public fund diversion.

They are a former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja; former Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention, Tom Ikimi; and one Robert Azibola, a cousin of former President Jonathan as well as former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim.


However, all the five defendants pleaded not guilty to the amended charge dated May 11 and signed by Chile Okoroma, Director of Legal and Prosecution Department of the EFCC.

Meanwhile, Justice Baba-Yusuf has adjourned trial of the defendants to July 9 and 10.

Buhari blaming the late Libyan Dictator, Muammar Gaddafi as being responsible for the upsurge in clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country, Thursday threw the Senate into uproar for some minutes. Senate Chamber President Buhari had said on Wednesday in London that herdsmen who had killed hundreds of Nigerians since the inception of his administration were trained and armed by Gaddafi.

Trouble started on the floor of the Senate when Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, PDP, Abia South who came under Order 43 of the Senate Standing Order, 2015 as amended, drew the attention of the Senators to comments by President Buhari who he said amounted to incompetence on his part, said “President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in London said that the killings across Nigeria were as a result of the people who were trained by the late Muammar Gaddafi, implying that these people who are doing the killings in Nigeria are invaders from outside of Nigeria

If so, it validates my last point that when a commander-in-chief says he cannot take care of invaders, why is he still a commander-in-chief?

“A few days ago, in this chamber, we talked about the security of Nigeria. This chamber has discussed the killings all over the states of Nigeria.

This chamber has also discussed in detail matters that have to do with the life and the livelihood of Nigerians. “I recall Mr President, that on the matter of herdsmen versus farmers that two explanations were made by highly ranked security personnel in Nigeria. First of all, the Inspector-General of Police Mr Ibrahim Idris said that these killings were as a result of laws being passed by states.

“Secondly, the Defence Minister, Mansur Dan-Ali said these killings were also as a result of the blockage of routes in which these herders were to move their cattle. And we continued to look at these matter. “Why do we still continue to indulge this president that goes along to tell everybody outside this country that his totally incompetent?

Abaribe’s comments especially based on his allegation that the President was not competent, did no go down well with some of the Senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC who were heard, shouting at the chamber.

First to start up to pick holes with Abaribe’s taking a swipe at the President, was the Senate leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, APC, Yobe North, just as he was followed by other APC Senators. Senator Lawan who came under Order 53(7) said “it shall be out of order to use offensive and inciting language. The President is the leader of this country and deserves the respect and courtesy of the chamber and those of us in it. “I was once an opposition senator; there was never a time we called the president at that time who was a PDP president and insulted him because this is our institution. If we don’t conduct ourselves with dignity and respect, nobody will respect us.

“I want to urge our colleague to immediately withdraw his statement and apologise to this chamber.” In his contribution, Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Na’Allah, Spc, Kebbi said “we must guide the Senate; we must be seen as doing what is humanly possible to guide this hallowed chamber. Senator Na’allah however, cited Order 53 and Senate Rule 1,3 which says “The conduct of the President, Vice President, Senators, judges shall not be raised expect upon a substantive motion. “Any senator deviating from the provisions of this rule, may be immediately called to order by the president of the senate.”

In the midst of the rancor and uproar and to nip the lending crisis in the bud, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki who attempted to restore order by asking Abaribe to make his point without using offensive words, said “we need to be guided on the language and the quorum that we use. With all due respect, we can make our points without using words that are offensive.

“He has made a point, he is an elder statesman and I want you to be guided accordingly.” But standing up the second time, Senator Abaribe who declared that there was no other word with which to convey his estate regarding the meaning of what the President had done, said, “there are words that have no alternatives. What I did was to interpret the words by Mr. President in London. If any word I used is misunderstood by anyone, I apologize. What I am saying is simple. The heads of security in Nigeria made several explanations for the killings of our people. It shows that there is a disconnect.”

The debate was brought to an abrupt end because of growing tension in chamber. Meanwhile, the Senate Thursday confirmed the appointment of three Presidential nominees for membership into the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The Board members whose confirmation was sequel to recommendation by the Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, PDP, Delta North Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs were , Mr. Nwogwu N. Nwogwu, as member representing Abia state on the NDDC board, Mr. Lucky Aiyeditiwa, as member representing Ondo state, and Mr. Chuka Nwauwa who represents Imo state on the NDDC Governing board. Presenting the report of his committee, Senator Nwaoboshi said, “considering the fact that the nominees are indigenes of oil producing areas, coupled with their performance and documents available during screening, the committee finds that the nominees are qualified to represent their states as members of the Governing Board of the NDDC.” Related

BREAKING: Akeredolu loses at Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed an appeal by the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for lack of merit.

Akeredolu had, by the appeal, challenged a July 20017 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which upheld an order by a Federal High Court in Abuja, granting permission to Olusegun Abraham to serve Akeredolu through substituted means, court documents in relation to the suit he (Abraham) filed.

Abraham’s suit is challenging the outcome of the primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which produced Akeredolu as the party’s candidate for the last governorship election in Ondo State.

In a unanimous judgment, a five-man panel of the Supreme Court held that Akeredolu’s appeal was without merit.

Justice John Okoro, in the lead judgment, but read by Justice Ejembi Eko, upheld the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal and awarded N500,000 cost against Akeredolu, in favour of Abraham.

Akeredolu wants tuition in Ondo increased, says current fees “can only buy shoe”


Ondo governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has declared that the tuition fees paid in some of the state-owned tertiary institutions can only purchase a pair of shoe and not enough to maintain them.

He urged the new Governing Boards of the four institutions in the state to improve funding in the schools through increment in tuition fee and endowment funds.


The Governor, who spoke on Tuesday at the inauguration of the boards, said the current tuition fees were not realistic and could not even maintain water supply in the schools.

The governor charged members of the institutions Governing boards not to entertain any fear, adding that they should be bold to make recommendations.

Akeredolu said: “The education of our people is important to us. It is not easy to govern uneducated people.

“What we pay as tution can buy a pair of shoe. The council members should look at it critically and advise us right.


“There is no other place in South West where they pay meager tution. People don’t want to hear it but we will say it, we are elected to take decision, and that decision we will take.”

A lawyer and right activist, Dr. Tunji Abayomi was inaugurated as the Chairman of / Pro Chancelor of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, has filed a suit before a federal high court in Abuja, challenging the decision of his colleagues to approve $1 billion for the fight against insurgency.

Last week when governors announced that they had agreed that the federal government should withdraw the amount from the excess crude account, Fayose kicked against it.

He said the money would be used for the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Fayose said Ekiti should be given its own share of the $1 billion for its fight against “hunger haram”.

“I’m not in support of $1 billion and will never be in support of it. In my state, we have agreed to go to court to contest this. It is our legitimate right, all accruals to the federation must be shared by the three tiers of government and for me to get justice I have to go to court,” he said.

“I filed the case in court as early as 12 noon today. I have options and I have said it expressly, I have gone to court… I have taken appropriate steps because the money belongs to Ekiti people not to any other use.

“I did not attend the meeting where the issue was discussed, even if I was part of the meeting I would have made it expressly clear that I will not support it. Every state has its own peculiarities in terms of security. Ekiti state has Hunger Haram… hunger is everywhere. Whatever is in that money, for me we should share it, let everybody go and solve his own problem. I have challenges and they should give me my money. It is Ekiti money.”

Asked if he was also fighting on behalf of his colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fayose who is the chairman of PDP governors’ forum said: “Excuse me, I am speaking for Ayo Fayose.”
