The bulk of Nigerians are not minimum wage earners or even salary earners. So how will govt relief reach them

Have you watched the interview?

Welfarist approach where you spend 30% of your income? That is what brought us here. Subsidies that never worked and became a millstone once we had cash flow issues

This is what the military did for years to legitimize their rule and it is why Nigerians have been conditioned to expect that numerous services may as well be free

Did you watch the interview? His point is that the money is still available to use, the government is just using it wrongly doing things like conditional cash transfer e.t.c

Wow! Just wow!

The man is very very sound , articulate and well informed. He broke everything down referring to historical records and how the management of this country has been dysfunctional in modern day Nigeria.

I like how he explained how labour is chasing the wrong struggle while the government is throwing money at non-money problems .

The only solution to the problem as the man posited in the video is for the government to adopt a welfarist approach to governance. Let the worker be able to spend as little as 30% of his income on housing, transport, healthcare and other physiological needs and u won't see labour coming out every year to demand increase in minimum wage.

It is shocking that when the minimum wage was increased to 18k in 2011, the minimum wage could buy 3 bags of rice but today the current minimum wage can only buy half bag of rice.

If Nigeria will ever be good again, we need to go back to the drawing board as the man posited in the last part of his interview. Let whoever wants to run for president or state governor come up with the workable plans he has about building low cost estates, workable plans on affordable healthcare, workable plans on affordable transport, etc. Not just everybody focusing on political jamborees during elections only to get the seat and start taxing the dead and living to finance expensive lifestyle of execuTHIEVES and legisLOOTERS.

Very sound points. Infact, anyone whose salary has increased within the last 5 years will easily relate with it.

The problem is not necessarily increase of wages. The problem is the purchasing power of the money. I have said it here that my colleagues unanimously agree that they prefer the salary we were earning around 2018. Even though lower than what we earn now, it was more than enough for us.

Are you ready to pay househelp 100k per month though? Is barber ready to pay apprentice same? Will bank pay security 100k?

That is what MINIMUM wage means. The lowest salary you can pay by law.

That market square on 23 road who are doing the right thing - employing secondary school kids waiting for uni - should they be paying 100k? Is it sustainable?

This is the best view on minimum wage I have seen.

If you have the time, watch from 13:30 to 26:16. It's just about 13 minutes.

Thank you all for the advice. I really really appreciate.

I will give it a try and see how it goes. I want to start by learning how to make use of map since I don’t know much roads in lagos. Please how will I register on bolt, I have an account with them already which I use when I want to order a ride, I want to know if it’s the same account or I will have to register as a driver. With what I have read so far, I will have to take the car for inspection so do they have any office in oshodi.

God bless you all and happy Sunday

It's a different app. You have to download the bolt driver app on playstore

Our people behave like animals. Even after the man had waited patiently, he still wasn't able to go through.

It's also rampant in PH especially where there are no law enforcement agents. I wonder why states can't copy the lagos model of traffic cameras to generate revenue.

A friend of mine is using Avalon with V6 engine and he makes decent earning with the car. So, I don't doubt what you said....

That IS250 is even a 2.5l engine with factory rated mpg of 21 in the city. To put into perspective, big daddy which is commonly used for ehaling has the same mpg of 21.

Good evening house. I have Lexus is250 2007 that I want to use and start Uber. Please I want to know una opinion on that instead of staying at home doing nothing. If there’s anyone that have done the same business using similar car please I want to hear your opinion as well. The car is for me but My fear is if I can make make anything after buying fuel and bolt removing their percentage

You'll be surprised your car if in good condition has better fuel efficiency than some 4 cylinder cars people use for ehailing.

My advice is for you to give it a trial. Start with Friday/Saturday/Sunday to see how it goes before you either call it off or add less profitable days.

And remember to drive gently. Cars with v6 engines can give you decent mpg if you don't slam your leg on the pedal everytime the red turns green and on the brake when green turns red.

Goodluck.

NB: I am assuming the car is in Lagos where people make decent money from ehaling.

Yea, no need for discrimination based on academic performance. You collect loan, you no serious na you know, you go rack gbese for neck. But then again, what stops people from collecting these loans and checking out of the country after their education? The student loan scheme works in the US and most developed countries because people are incentivized to stay back after schooling, not so with Nigeria, ask average graduate, their short-long term plan na japa. The number of persons that japa eventually is another discussion entirely, but people taking loans and migrating is something to consider.

Exactly my thoughts. They will either have to insure those loans or be ready to write off a significant percentage.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Itsrm(m): 4:15pm On May 31
BlueRayDick:

Loans are insurable actually. There's Credit insurance which will guarantee the lender that in the event a debtor is unable to pay the balance of a loan, the insurance company will pay the creditor back.

The problem with that is FG will be expending more cost if they do Credit insurance on behalf of students because we all know the students don't have money to pay for the insurance before accessing the loan. For normal bank loans, the bank will debit ur loan account for the insurance premium which means u the borrower would've even paid for the insurance before disbursement

I'm not sure they have a choice o. A lot of those loans will go bad. Except they are ready to write it off.

The bank my wife works had to stop their staff car loan because people were taking the loan and using it to fund japa. And once they japa, they don't service the loan.

Saw this on Twitter that's why I decided to share.

If people can easily access this loan, might just be a game changer in our tertiary education.

Wow, this is good.

Shey it's a non interest loan. That's you pay the same amount you were given when you graduate.

The student loan looks good on paper and may as well be one of the good legacies Tinubu can leave behind( If it is properly administered )

Sometimes last week I read in the papers that the pilot phase of the loan will be accessible to only students in Federal owned higher institutions (.i.e. FG owned Varsity, Polytechnic and College of Education). Maybe state owned schools will be added later or their respective governors will have to float something similar to complement FG's program in their respective states , only time will tell.

That being said, I have just one major concern which I didn't see addressed in the news article. According to plan the student's fees will be paid directly to the school's account and not handed over to the student .

My concern is let's say a student has been on the student loan from year one and after year three due to poor academic performance, exam malpractice or cultism he gets expelled/rusticated from school; how will the FG recoup the principal they have expended on such students from year 1 to 3? Remember a student is expected to start repayment 2 years post graduation. How will the FG recoup from students who don't graduate eventually ?

Also, for those who get 1 to 2 extra year, will FG keep paying their school fees for those extra years ?

Isn't there a way of insuring loans? I think I've heard something similar before

It seems NELFUND has began processing student loan applications for undergraduates in federal universities. If you know anyone in Fed Uni in need of student loan, you can ask them to apply.

If this turns out as they have said, then it's a big plus to the Tinubu administration. Impressive

Part of the reason the train failed under buhari was because it was projected to have a daily ridership of 34,000 but had less than 1000.

This was partly because there were no access roads leading to the station. It ended up being abandoned and vandals had a swell time carting away valuables.

"Wike" spent 10bn renovating it and another 21bn constructing access roads which Buhari did not have foresight to do.

So like you said, it's good to appreciate people when they do well.

It will pump. I hurriedly sold mine when it dip to 0.0052 that's it's better to have something on hand since it's free money and I have projects I want to do than let it continue dipping. When it dipped to 0.0043 I was happy that I took the right decision.

Started pumping this week and now I felt like crying. From $0.0043 to $0.0117 at the current rate. The coin will most likely get to $1 and above long term so if you have and you dont need the money urgently, I advise you leave it.

This muddles it up even more. If FHC is the same, with the same power to adjudicate over the matter, why are we filing and hearing the same case in 2 different states with what would most likely be 2 different judgements over the same matter? The Supreme Court will ultimately decide this, it looks but it is such a mess to have it this way. At this point we have rendered our State courts useless.

I've heard lawyers say state High courts function well for other cases till its time for cases involving politicians then you start seeing magic.

Maybe they are not totally useless

Our Judiciary is a big part of the problem this country is facing. There has to be some purposeful clarity about jurisdictions and limitations when it comes to adjudicating these cases. Why are we needing a FHC Abuja's judgement when a FHC in PHC, where the matter is held has given judgement? What jurisdiction does the FHC Abuja have over this case?

They are courts of competent jurisdiction. I believe you can file anywhere. High Court is high court. This is my understanding and I may be wrong.
