Crime5 Criminals Who Pulled Off Major Crimes With Only A Phone by ItuExchange(op): 8:50am On May 14, 2016
When we think of criminals, we tend to think of two types: The street-level thug committing his crimes with a gun or a fist, and the upper-level management, dictating orders to the thugs below. But there's a third type: The guys who picks up the phone and decide that crime sounds like a fun thing to do today. And sometimes -- not often, but sometimes -- they succeed in astounding ways.

How He Did It:

In each case, the mystery caller (whom we will refer to as the Capitalist from now on) would phone up local banks, posing as an aide to the state treasurer. He then requested that thousands of dollars in cash be sent to the treasurer's office, for "payroll" purposes. Miraculously, that's all it took: Mentioning generic terms like "payroll" and "treasury" sent whole banks scurrying to ship huge amounts of money as soon as humanly possible. The Capitalist even arranged for Brink's armored trucks to transport the funds, and, in one case, even a state trooper to escort the money. And again: There were no accomplices, no brilliant hacks and no dynamited vaults -- he did all of this alone, and entirely by telephone.

RomanceHow To Meet The Right Spouse by ItuExchange(op): 3:47pm On May 12, 2016
In the past week, four people in great relationships gave me the exact same advice. I won't share their names because maybe they want to be private.

One person I will share because he gave the exact same advice in the middle of my podcast.

Brian Grazer. He produced A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, 8 Mile, etc. and my favorite TV series every Arrested Development.

He said, "Make a list of all the qualities you like." That's it. All of the other people said the exact same thing.

Two of them said, "I made this list and within six months I met the woman who matched every single quality."

Brian said, "They should be at least generous, warm, pretty."

He said, "Maybe look for a teacher or a nurse."

A friend of mine wrote me the other day, "Did you make your list yet?" I said,

"Yes, today." and he said, "I made my list."

I said to him, "this is the pinkest conversation two men are having right now."

Nairaland GeneralHow To Tell If Someone Is Lying by ItuExchange(op): 2:58pm On May 12, 2016
How to know if someone is telling the truth

I sat next to a spy on a plane when I came back from visiting Brian Grazer in LA.

He had been CIA and a few other organizations. Now he runs his own private spy agency. Governments seem to pay him to spy on other governments.

He told me some of his non-classified stories. Some stories he couldn't tell me.

We spoke the whole plane ride. Six hours. I had non-stop questions. I think he wanted to sleep but I wouldn't let him.

He gave me advice on how to tell if someone is telling the truth. Actually he gave me a lot of advice on it but I will tell you one.

If someone can't give you an answer, then they are lying.

For instance, "Where were you last night?"

"I was out with friends."

Note that they did not say where they were. They didn't even say who their friends were. So somewhere in there is deception.

"Don't leave without an answer. "

Maybe in another article I will tell you the other things this guy said. One of them involved chairs with balls on them so they can slide around a room.

FamilyWhat Is It Like To, As A Teen, Have To Tell Your Parents That You're Pregnant? by ItuExchange(op): 2:51pm On May 12, 2016
I was 13.

13 when I found out I was pregnant. I remember going to my mum and telling her. She sat down with her hands neatly placed on her lap.

she looked at me straight in the eye.

"where have I gone wrong?"

She cried.

it felt horrible really. Watching your mother cry has to be one of the worst feelings.

after some emotional session, she asked me

"what will you do?"

I told her I'll have the baby. My (now) husband told me he'd help too. He was 16 at the time.

And so I did. At the age of 14, I had my baby. My son and also my angel.

my husband worked his butt off, I did part time jobs and graduated school (in a month I will), my mother and his mother also tipped in and helped us. It all turned out well at the end.

But I will never forget my mother's look.

I'm glad it's all over now my son is a big boy and my mum is a happy grandmother. Can't ask for a better husband who has stuck with me these past years of both bliss and hardships.

If you have any questions ask me pls wink

Foreign AffairsIf Every Country Cooperated To Attack The U.S.A., Would They Succeed? by ItuExchange(op): 5:06pm On May 11, 2016
Hypothetical Battles: If every nation in the world allied and attempted to invade and conquer the United States, would they succeed?

Several nations have missiles that could be potentially threatening to the United States' cities and installations. Of particular importance is the Chinese I would think. They have high velocity nukes that are used to target an entire Aircraft Carrier Group. That is important because it isn't just the one powerful ship. They travel with many other escort ships, several tens of thousands of people and they might even be docked at important Naval installations like San Diego, Pearl Harbor (not again) or New York. Plus we have only 11 and they are sort of important for defense and air superiority.

Of course there is the stockpile of Russia, with more weapons from the U.K., France and as mentioned China. Others have the weapons as well, but they are in their infancy and likely not a threat by the time the others are done with our major cities.

Other countries also probably won't care too much about our policy of being nice and targeting only military installations in the way the we did during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I am guessing that while some of our good friends like the U.K. (who inexplicably declared war on us) might observe this, others are just going to be nastier. They understand that this is going to be an ugly war and bringing us down as fast as possible would probably be their best bet.

Things that we should expect at this point: Several cities will be brought down. In our vastly interconnected world this is going to bring down a lot of services. Internet - gone, power - gone, telephone - gone. (These are pretty important.)

There is also the threat of another pretty ugly weapon that would probably be part of the opening barrage. High altitude nuclear explosions. These weapons shower the region with energized electrons that short circuits electrical devices in their target radius. Here are some great info-graphs to breakdown the damage of one of these.

CelebritiesSigns You’re Successful—even If It Doesn’t Feel Like It by ItuExchange(op): 8:30pm On May 09, 2016
If you’re ambitious, you’re bound to feel like a failure from time to time. Lofty goals lead to inevitable moments when you aren’t yet living up to your expectations.

We live in a world that reinforces this feeling. Though most people won’t admit it—other than the guy with the ‘He who dies with the most toys wins’ bumper sticker—in the back of our minds, we equate material possessions with success.

It’s a shame we fall prey to materialistic thinking because we certainly know better. A study by Strayer University found that 90% of Americans believe happiness is a bigger indicator of success than power, possessions, or prestige. Digging a little deeper, 67% defined success as “good relationships with friends and family,” and 60% said it is loving what you do for a living. Only 20% stated that monetary wealth determines success.

But saying and doing are two very different things.

When it comes to success, our eyes often lead us astray. It’s hard not to feel like the most successful people are those with the biggest houses, the most expensive cars, and the most influential friends. Regardless of what you achieve, there’s always someone with more, and this can make you feel like you’re losing. The problem isn’t your lack of toys; it’s believing that toys indicate true success.

Real success is about who you are and how far you’ve come.

You’re no longer the center of the universe.

You stay positive.

You know that failure isn’t forever.

You keep things in perspective.

You ask for help when you need it.

You realize that life isn’t a zero-sum game.

You can tell the difference between drama and excitement.

You no longer care what other people think.

You accept what you can’t change and change what you can.

Bringing It All Together
There’s no sense in feeling like a failure just because you think you should have a better job, a bigger house, or a nicer car. Real success comes from the inside, and it’s completely independent of circumstance.

What are some other indicators of true success? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below as I learn just as much from you as you do from me.

Christianity EtcWhat Most People Don’t Know About Prophet T. B. Joshua by ItuExchange(op): 10:12pm On May 08, 2016
Temitope Balogun Joshua (born June 12, 1963), commonly referred to as T. B. Joshua, is a Nigerian prophet and televangelist. He is the leader and founder of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), a religious organisation that runs the Emmanuel TV television station from Lagos, Nigeria.

He has been awarded various accolades, notably receiving the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) by the Nigerian government in 2008 and being voted the Yoruba man of the decade by Pan-Yoruba media outlet Irohin-Odua. He was recognised as one of Africa's 50 most influential people by Pan-African magazines The Africa Report and New African Magazine and listed among the world's most famous people by the website thefamouspeople.com. He was recently ranked among the world's most famous prophets in history by American website Ranker.

Joshua is known for his popularity across Africa and his online presence, with 2,000,000 fans on Facebook and the most subscribed Christian ministry channel on YouTube which has amassed more than 120 million views.

As of 2011, according to Forbes, Joshua was Nigeria’s third-richest pastor, although the claim was immediately denied in a statement by the church. (Source: wikipedia)

Many lives have been blessed by this illustrious Nigerian, yet many people cast aspersions on him.

He’s a generous man. Many foreigners seek him in spite of his limited education and fluency in English. They seek his God, and bring lots of foreign exchange to Nigeria; yet we cast aspersions on him.

I don’t care whether he uses God’s power or other means. What I know is that his grass to grace story is inspiring. What I know is that those who follow him aren’t foolish: They’ve their reasons for following him.

T. B. Joshua is a good example that a good thing can come from Nazareth. Nigeria, which is known for corruption, poverty, yahoo boys, terrorism, poor infrastructure, poor education, etc., has produced an illustrious son who’s accepted by the Whites. Whenever Joshua goes abroad to minister, stadiums and halls are filled to the brim, yet we cast aspersions on him.

We hate him, but he’s an international celebrity. If you’ve someone like that in your family, you’d be happy. But you cast aspersions on him.

And we’ve our own short-comings, weaknesses and failings too.

We speak rubbish against E. A. Adeboye, David Oyedepo, Chris Oyakhilome, etc.

Why can’t Nigerians cherish and say something good about their own people?

HealthI Go To Gym Everyday, But Tummy Is Still Big. Help! by ItuExchange(op): 10:01pm On May 08, 2016
I go to gym everyday and I follow good diet but I can't get rid of my tummy fat. It is really so big and it really bothers me. What should I do?

I'd say to REALLY look at your diet.

When I wanted to tighten up my stomach, I thought I had a good diet. I exercised more and more but didn't change my eating habits that much. I lost weight very slowly and was extremely frustrated. I thought that the answer was just more exercise so I kept increasing until I was working out a lot, but still not seeing the results I wanted.

That's when I thought to myself - ok, I'm doing all this work. Clearly it's possible for people to make drastic changes - but how do I do this?

I didn't know but I started anyway and figured I'd learn along the way. I've attached my before and after pictures so you can see the outcome:

So how did I go from the left to the right?

Diet.

I didn't change my workouts.

Actually, take that back. I worked out LESS. But I ATE BETTER.

I changed from a lot of cardio and a little lifting to a lot of lifting and a little cardio.

I researched nutrition, worked with a nutritionist, and we designed a diet that was custom tailored to me. You don't have to go to that extreme - there are plenty of free calculators online that take your weight, age, and activity level and calculate your macronutrient ratios (ratio of protein, fat, and carbohydrate) for you.

The challenge is taking that information and being disciplined with your diet.

It takes time, consistency, and effort. It's not easy. The pictures were taken a year apart. And in that year I struggled, I had bad days, I had crazy days of eating whatever the heck I wanted.

But no matter what happened, I knew that diet and consistency were key. If those two were dialed in, it was just a matter of time before I succeeded.

So, my friend, here are a few action steps you can take today to improve:

Go online and calculate macronutrient ratios that are appropriate for you.
Learn how to read nutrition labels so you can identify how food will impact your macronutrient ratios (this requires math!)

Measure your food so you know the amounts of food you are eating.
I wish you the best of luck! I've been there and I know it's possible to completely transform yourself. Give yourself time and keep consistent. The results will come smiley

Foreign AffairsWhat Are The Chances That We See Donald Trump As The President Of The U.S.A.? by ItuExchange(op): 10:35pm On May 07, 2016
Politicalodds.bet produces real-time charts showing the chances of various political outcomes, including this one, based on betting markets at Betfair.

http://politicalodds.bet/next-us...

The chart below shows a snapshot as of when I wrote this answer in April. Click the link above to get the current implied odds.

Right now (mid April) Trump is showing as about a 13% chance.

[Edit since this answer is getting a lot of attention. The chances today (2nd May) implied by this market are 21%. The chances of Trump winning the nomination are implied at 86%. Note that this suggests that even if nothing changes between now and the convention, resolving the question of whether Trump is the nominee will shift the chances of Prez Trump to either about 25% or (presumably) about 0%.]

(I'm truncating the question to the 2016 election and ignoring any possibility of him taking over after becoming VP (surely not?) or winning in 2020 or beyond).

This isn't the only way to answer this question. You could look at polls. You could build electoral models. You could look at bookmarkers odds rather than a betting exchange. But this is the most liquid market, and presumably people using it are doing all of those things for you. So while I would caution that there is a significant margin of error around whatever number the Betfair odds are implying, I think it's a reasonable best guess estimate.

CrimeWhat Was The Day In History In Which Most People Died? by ItuExchange(op): 9:51pm On May 06, 2016
I don't know if this one is the one with the most deaths. But certainly is one that affects me a lot. One that was very recent. I mean, in ancient times, armies entering a town and killing every villager was not unheard of. But I am talking about a massacre that took place just 35 years ago. Another chilling thing is that the perpetrators were the country's army, killing their own people.

The Mozote Massacre in El Salvador took place December 11th, 1981. El Mozote was a small village of about 1000 inhabitants, poor people, farmers mostly. During that time, the civil war had just broken in and there was the government's army fighting the guerrilla (FMLN). This war originated because only 14 families owned all of the country's wealth. Because the workers were exploited, because the salaries were not fair, because a lot of people were starving to death while others had a great life in complete disregard of the people they were exploiting.

Most of the farmers and people living in poverty would support the guerrilla. Would feed them, hide them when hunted, or join them.

General Domingo Monterrosa, the leader of the Atlacatl battalion came up with an idea. He thought that removing the guerrilla from the country was difficult because they were being helped and of course, were armed and ready to fight. But removing the people that helped them, feed them and hid them was easier, since it was poor people with no guns, no fighting skills and scared to death.

On December 11th, 1981, The Atlacatl Battalion entered the Mozote village, got EVERY SINGLE villager inside the town's church, the convent and other houses and executed them. Women and girls were raped first before killing them with machine guns. Some reports talk about the children being killed by slitting their throats and hanging them from trees. In a few hours, almost 1,000 people died. Men, women and children alike. The soldier later the next day went to a neighboring village to do the same. As cruel as any ancient barbaric attack, just that this happened not too long ago.

The government tried to minimize the story. During that time, Reagan was financing the government Army and US officials said that the reports by several news Agencies were "gross exaggerations"....

Years later, after the war ceased, there was amnesty to all the parties involved in war. Justice never happened for the Mozote inhabitants who died on December 11th, 1981. Although the Interamerican Court of Human Rights requested the government to investigate, justice has not been served.

In 2012, the Government of El Salvador publicly apologized for the Mozote massacre. However, the President at the time was a left wing President that was elected as part of the FMLN party (ex guerrilla group, now political party). The right wing party, the ones more closely involved, never apologized, and their politicians and supporters never discuss these massacres. They insist that "nothing really happened" and when this massacre and many others come into discussion, they are rapidly brushed off with a "the past is the past" or "but the guerrilla also killed a lot of soldiers and detonated bridges". According to the report of the Commission on the Truth of El Salvador, 85% of war crimes were committed by the army and 15% by the guerrilla.

Currently, DNA testing is being done to establish identity of the remains found, to offer some degree of closure to the relatives (although, closure will never be achieved without justice).

This is not the only massacre. There is a long long list of massacres in El Salvador during war and before that. During the early 30s, 32000 farmers were killed over the course of one month, because they were protesting the poor conditions of work, the exploitation, the starving, the long hours, the mock pay -some Hacienda owners will pay their workers with "hacienda money", not real money but tokens that were only valid in, guess... the Hacienda store.

Tears fill my eyes every time I think about what happened to these people. About what happened to Mons. Romero and the Jesuits who were assassinated by the same Army that swore to protect their people. Disappointment fill my heart when I hear how many Salvadorans have decided to ignore history.

ProgrammingIs Python A Dying Language? by ItuExchange(op): 9:39pm On May 06, 2016
"A friend of my grandmother is a Computer Scientist from MIT..."

How old is your grandmother's friend?

My grandmother worked as a bookkeeper, and in the 1960's operated an IBM computer (her employer was not IBM, it was Layne Bowler, an international maker of water pumps). My grandmother loaded punch-cards into the computers to run reports.

It's likely that the code on these punch-cards was written in Assembly language. That's the era that Assembly language belongs to, so that's why I ask how old your grandmother's friend is. It could be they are basing their opinion on an outdated era.

Some people still do use Assembly language, but only for very low-level code on embedded systems or as output of compilers. If you want a career writing high-performance microcode for computer hardware, like on the chips of network adapters, you should learn Assembly. If you write compiler optimizers, you probably will use Assembly. Writing Assembly is hard to write, harder to maintain, and very time-consuming for both. It also requires a lot of programming skill. And it can't work on another type of computer architecture.

But Assembly gives you an opportunity to write code that is compact, efficient, and optimized for the project you're implementing. You can do amazing things in just a few Kilobytes of Assembly code. But today storage is cheap, processing power is cheap. The level of efficiency you can gain by using Assembly is not justified by the extra work, time, and skill it requires.

It's true that languages rise and fall in popularity. The name of the game in programming is productivity, and new languages are invented from time to time, which give an advantage in productivity, at least for certain types of work.

The vast majority of programmers today use a higher level language, because they need to be more productive. High-level languages are either compiled to machine code (e.g. C or C++) or compiled to an architecture-independent bytecode and run in a virtual machine (e.g. Java) or interpreted (e.g. Javascript, PHP, Ruby, Python, Perl, shell, etc.).

You've received many other answers that say the same thing, but I'll add my voice to those who say it's absolutely false that you should learn Assembly because it's "better than Python." This is a foolish, myopic, outdated thing to say. We expect more wisdom from any MIT computer scientist, and trust that they wouldn't be foolish. That's why many people are answering that your grandmother's friend must be pulling your leg.

PoliticsIf Every World Leader Was Put In A Room And Started Fighting Which One Would Win by ItuExchange(op): 9:35pm On May 05, 2016
Simple, Putin would win. No one here mentioned that he is an 8th dan in judo. What does 8th dan mean?

Belt colors in judo are slightly different depending on which country you're in but the dan ranking system should be international. Dan means stage or step. I'll be specifically writing about dan awarded by Kodokan.

When you reach first dan that means you're no longer a junior and that you've mastered all the basics and are a decent judoka. When you reach third dan, you are qualified to teach judo. As you progress up the dan ladder, you are gain seniority and experience. 10th dan is the highest possible level. (Theoretically there are no limits but no one has ever gotten past 10th dan) That has only been awarded a handful of time since judo's inception. At the moment, there are only three living men who have attained 10th dan. All of them were born in the 1920s so they're all pretty old.

9th dan is also super exclusive. Really, you can't make 9th dan unless you dedicate all your time to the sport.

8th dan means you are, more or less, a master of judo. Add to this combat training he would have probably received as part of the KGB... Putin would take everyone out with no difficulties.

EducationUC Irvine Accidentally Invents A Battery That Lasts Forever by ItuExchange(op): 10:19am On May 05, 2016
What do Viagra, popsicles, Corn Flakes, Ivory soap, the kitchen microwave, and champagne have in common? They were all discovered by accident. Add ultra-long-lasting nanowire batteries to that list, thanks to a team of researchers at the University of California Irvine. The average laptop battery is rated anywhere from 300 to 500 charge cycles – completely full to completely empty to completely full again – longer if you don’t use it all up before recharging. The UCI nanobattery endured 200,000 charge cycles over three months “with 94–96% average Coulombic efficiency.” It was effectively still brand new at the end of the experiment.

Let’s go conservative and say the average laptop battery lasts for 1,000 charge cycles, its capacity noticeably diminished after about two years. If that laptop had UCI's nanobattery it would easily last for 400 years (if 1,000 cycles = two years, 200,000 cycles = 400 years). That’s long enough for that laptop to share a name with, but be far less useful than, an actual brick. If UCI can apply its findings to commercial uses, there’s a revolution coming throughout the electronic landscape.

PoliticsIs There Any Difference Between PDP And APC Governments So Far? by ItuExchange(op): 12:52am On May 05, 2016
The People's Democratic Party is a major contemporary political party in Nigeria. Its policies generally lie towards the centre-right of the political spectrum. It won every Presidential election between 1999 and 2011, and was until the 2015 elections, the governing party in the Fourth Republic although in some cases, amid a few controversial electoral circumstances.

he All Progressives Congress (APC) is a political party in Nigeria, formed on 6 February 2013 in anticipation of the 2015 elections. APC candidate Muhammadu Buhari won the presidential election by almost 2.6 million votes. Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat on 31 March. This was the first time in Nigeria's political history that an opposition political party unseated a governing party in a general election and one in which power transferred peacefully from one political party to another. In addition, the APC won the majority of seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives in the 2015 elections, though it fell shy of winning a super-majority to override the ability of the opposition People's Democratic Party to block legislation. Can you see what’s happening now? APC in power, but inflation is beyond control, security is still a challenge, job loss is rampant, businesses fail, corrupt people don’t go to jail, infrastructure remains poor, etc.

Do you remember one election in which the APC governorship candidate died after declaring him a winner, and his running mate was refused to be the governor? Do you remember Saraki, who’s a real guilty man, but he’s yet to be dealt with ruthlessly (even the House is behind him)? Do you know that recent elections have been marred by irregularities and thuggery?

Then is there any difference between APC and PDP? Are APC not now doing what PDP were doing then, which made most Nigerians hate them?

FamilyWhat Does It Feel Like To Be A Parent Of A Notorious Street Thug? by ItuExchange(op): 12:44am On May 05, 2016
I remember my 6 year old son on his first day of school. He was cute and wanted to sit in the first row in his class. I sold medical equipment. My territory covered four states. I was rarely home.

When my son turned 11, he slowly started changing into a withdrawn person who stopped going to school every day. He had met older children who introduced him to drugs. By the age of 14, a professional said due to heavy use of drugs his brain stopped developing. He assaulted his mother and laughed as he hurt animals. Meth and heroin became his friend.

Unless he wanted help, Washington state would not order him into treatment.

He now is a 36 year old meth addict who has many jail stays for assault, several mandatory stays at treatment centers. He's homeless and is violent.

In addition to being addicted to methamphetamine, chronic abusers may exhibit symptoms that can include significant anxiety, confusion, insomnia, mood disturbances, and violent behavior. They also may display a number of psychotic features, including paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and delusions (for example, the sensation of insects creeping under the skin). Psychotic symptoms can sometimes last for months or years after a person has quit abusing methamphetamine, and stress has been shown to precipitate spontaneous recurrence of methamphetamine psychosis in formerly psychotic methamphetamine users source: (NIMH) I rarely see him. His mother refuses to.

Doctors tell me drug useage has turned him to a psychopath. My son and I talk on the phone only when he wants money.

What happened to our son ruined our marriage. I feel angry and guilty because I wasn't strict enough. I have been at his "funeral" 24 years. He beg's on the streets and makes it clear he will kill if he doesn't get his fix. Police know my son but can't arrest him until he commits a crime.

My biggest fear is he will assault someone. Not a day goes by that I don't feel sorrow what happened to my beautiful son. I've tried every mental health person I can find. They are powerless.

I've had success in life but nothing I've done overshadows my grief. With treatment, I've learned to live with my ill son. I know someday I will hear a knock on the door. I will open it and police will be standing in front of me saying my son is dead or he killed someone else.

I wish his funeral would end. I've been sitting in the church way too long.

AgricultureAny Other Uses For Olive Oil? by ItuExchange(op): 12:20am On May 05, 2016
Olive oil is a fat obtained from the olive (the fruit of Olea europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin. The oil is produced by pressing whole olives and is commonly used in cooking, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and soaps, and as a fuel for traditional oil lamps. Olive oil is used throughout the world and is often associated with Mediterranean countries.

However in Nigeria, the only known use for this amazing product is for religious purposes… Anointing services, anointing Sundays, anointing prayers… etc.

Can’t people find other beneficial uses like the example mentioned above?

They only need money. The deaths of their prey cannot bring them money.
