CareerRetirement From Oil &gas Industry. My Heart Is Heavy by ItuExchange(op): 9:21pm On Jun 08, 2016
It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from the oil and gas industry today. When I started this adventure 15 years ago, my classmates at LSU told me I was crazy. They said I would never get any sleep. That was true, sometimes. In return for those sleepless nights I got to: see the sunrise over the beautiful swamps with moss covered trees in south Louisiana, log a well in the middle of a tobacco field, swim in the Rio Grand in south Texas, hunt for pottery and arrow heads in New Mexico in between fracking stages, watch pronghorn antelope drink from my ice chest in Wyoming, and stand alone on the side of the road in Colorado with full moon overhead at 3AM while a heard of 400 elk grazed on the mountainside. These are some of the most magical memories of my life. I think it was worth it.

I have had the opportunity to work with some of the smartest, most respectful, and dedicated people in the world. Every once in a while a non oilfield person will ask me something like, "Oh being a girl in that industry I bet you have some horror stories!" No. I don't. Not one. I always felt like I was "ultra protected" by my coworkers. For that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The last 18 months have been difficult, especially trying to sell in this market. I felt myself dreading every day instead of looking forward to it. I realized it was not fun anymore, and that it was time to do something different. I will forever be great full to Baker Hughes for understanding, and for all they have done for me. It truly was the best company, and the best people I have worked for.

Before you shed a tear for me, you should know that my next adventure is pretty exciting. I'm going to live on an island in the Caribbean. They say I'm crazy. Hell, that worked out pretty good for me the first time around.

HealthWhat Are The Steps To Be Taken To Overcome Diabetes? by ItuExchange(op): 5:12am On Jun 08, 2016
Diabetes is a complex disease. There are many different types of diabetes including Type 1, Type 2, Pre diabetes and gestational. The information here pertains to Type 2 diabetes and pre diabetes. The most significant changes you can make are:

Avoid highly processed foods

People are consuming the greatest quantity of processed foods now more than any other time in history. However, most people don’t even know how dangerous they are. Recent studies show that processed foods are linked to many common diseases including diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers and obesity. Can you believe so many diseases can come from the foods you eat? The processed foods I am talking about are anything made with white flour, artificial sweeteners, cakes, cookies, pastries, breakfast cereals, soft drinks, sugary “fruit” drinks, cheese food, frozen dinners, and processed meat products (sausage, bologna, bacon, packaged ham, etc.) canned food, and refined sugars (including high fructose corn syrup). Most processed foods are stripped of all nutrients and are high in sugar, fat, salt and calories.

Avoid red meat and most animal products

In addition to avoiding highly processed foods, eating fewer animal products will have a huge impact on your health. Eating fewer animal products is the key to preventing chronic diseases including obesity, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes because animal products are high in saturated fat and cholesterol and are often polluted by hormones and antibiotics. The biggest problems with animal products in this country are how they are produced and that we are consuming too much of them. Studies have shown that a small increase in red meat can increase your risk of Type 2 diabetes. Start to decrease your consumption of animal protein and you will reduce your risk of getting diabetes.

Eat whole natural foods

Eating a whole foods diet means maximizing your nutrient intake and obtaining your foods from natural sources while avoiding the highly processed foods. Whole natural foods include fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, legumes and whole grains.

When you consume more whole foods, the amount of highly processed foods you eat will naturally and easily fall by the wayside. Choose whole foods as often as possible while avoiding foods like white bread, crackers, chips, candies and cookies.

Eat your vegetables and (some) fruit

It may sound cliché and kind of boring but it is true and very important. The typical American diet today includes very little vegetables. Vegetables are a great source of vitamins and minerals, antioxidants, water and fiber – all of which are important for your body to function optimally. In addition, they are low in calories so they are your best friend when trying to lose weight. Most vegetables can be eaten in abundance – some you have to count as a “carb”. For example the more starchy vegetables include corn, peas, potatoes, beets, and some squashes like acorn and butternut. While they are nutritious, you do have to monitor the quantity consumed for optimal blood sugar control. Studies show that people who eat more fruits and vegetables daily dramatically reduce their risk of getting Type 2 diabetes.

Control your carbohydrate intake

It is important to limit your carbohydrate intake and know where your carbs are coming from. For an in depth review of this pick up a copy of my book The 28 Day Blood Sugar Miracle.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise!!

Being physically active is one of the most important things you can do for your body. Our society has evolved into one where if you didn’t go out of your way to exercise you wouldn’t have any physical activity at all. You could wake up, drive to work, sit at your desk all day, eat lunch at your desk, go home, eat dinner, watch television, go to sleep. Does that sound familiar? This is a big problem facing our society. This type of living is what leads to obesity, high blood pressure, prediabetes and potentially Type 2 diabetes. It really must change. You need to make physical activity part of your daily routine.

Career10 Signs You Really Are A Leader (and Might Not Know It) by ItuExchange(op): 9:13pm On Jun 07, 2016
Usually, the people who influence us the most aren't even aware of it.

We often feel that to be a leader you need to be born a leader, or be drawn to leadership, or have a leader-ly position.

We think of leadership as a title that has to be deserved or earned.

But leaders are rarely, if ever, born. If we had to isolate a factor that creates leaders, it's probably some combination of circumstance and persistence.

Many, many leaders walk among us--in all kinds of people, places and positions.

Some of the greatest leaders you'll ever meet aren't even aware of their own leadership.

Here are 10 signs that you may be one of them:

1. You have an open mind and seek out other people's opinions. If people are drawn to you because you are open to others people's opinions, you are a leader.

2. You offer advice and counsel. If you find yourself advising your colleagues, and your friends are asking you to counsel them--if people seem to seek out and value what you say--then your empathy is strong and your perspective has real-world usefulness to those around you. If you often help those around you navigate their rough patches, you are a leader.

3. People count on you. If people rely on you, it follows that they trust you to follow through and deliver on your promises. If you hold yourself accountable and demonstrate the kind of day-in, day-out responsibility that leads others to trust you, you are a leader.

4. You're a good listener and people confide in you. Being able to listen to others, having people speak to you frankly without worrying about who you'll tell or how you might use that knowledge against them, are signs of strong leadership--not to mention of being a nice person. If you understand that listening is more important than speaking, and if people know they can confide in you, you are a leader.

5. Others follow your example. The most powerful form of leadership isn't persuasion or argument or force, but example. Whether times are good or bad, people notice who's present, who's effective, who's working hard without distraction. When that person is you, others naturally follow you--and you are a leader.

6. You insist on excellence. As Aristotle said, we are what we repeatedly do, and therefore excellence is not an act but a habit. When you are in the habit of standing up for excellence and you hold yourself and those around you responsible for quality, you are telling others that you act rather than talk, show rather than say, deliver rather than promise. If you are not making excuses or blaming others but holding up the standard of excellence and quality, you are a leader.

7. You have a positive attitude. Positive, optimistic people make people around them happy. A positive outlook doesn't blind you to problems or issues but allows you to seek out something good in almost every situation and to know that eventually things will be all right. It's the kind of spirit that keeps people motivated and spreads optimism, and it means you are a leader.

8. You treat people with respect. Knowledge may give you power, being smart may give you an advantage, but when you give respect you will always receive respect in return. If you look for the good in everyone you meet and respect them for who they are, it's likely that they hold you in high esteem and that you are a leader.

9. You genuinely care about others. If you spend time supporting, guiding and sharing your knowledge with those around you, giving them the opportunity to achieve success, and if you care about their well-being and do all you can to help them attain their own success, you are a leader.

10. You are confident and passionate. Most people are always watching each other, looking for cues about how to behave. Being confident means moving with assurance, being passionate about what you believe and refusing to let anything get in your way. If you work consistently toward a cause with vision and confidence, you are a leader.

Are you failing to see something important within yourself? Weigh yourself against these traits, reconsider what you think you know, and recognize yourself for the leader you may really be.

CrimeHere’s How To Torture People Who Talk Too Loudly On Their Phones by ItuExchange(op): 9:13am On Jun 07, 2016
Have you ever been out in public and heard someone gabbing way too loudly on their cell phone? Of course you have. But Greg Benson of MediocreFilms — the same team that brought us Dancing Behind People at the Mall — came up with a brilliant way to shame these inconsiderate conversationalists. He parks himself beside the offender and pretends to be having his own phone conversation — but then begins answering the person beside him. He calls it “cell phone crashing” and the results are pretty hilarious.

Though Benson tests out the gag at the airport, you could really give it a whirl just about anywhere. Happy pranking!

PhonesHow Can I Remove Default Apps From Nokia 206? by ItuExchange(op): 3:10pm On Jun 06, 2016
I have been facing same issues with my Nokia 206. The software is up to date. The problem started after the preinstalled. WhatsApp asked for updating. It needed some 700kb space more and there was none in the phone memory.

I somehow managed to delete some files like photos etc. and made the space. WhatsApp has been updated but now every time I opened WhatsApp, it starts with some notification enabler download which it is unable to do. I have no clue why. It starts with the download but suddenly says could not download.

I think it might be some memory issue. Some people have suggested blue ftp but I have no clue whatsoever what that is and how to use it. I really don’t want to play with the phone's software. I love this phone but this memory issue is simply irritating.

Last thing, are you using Nokia, so do the Nokia customers care ever reply on these discussion forums? How can I contact customer support?

HealthIs Cancer A Painful Way To Die? Why Or Why Not? by ItuExchange(op): 9:40pm On Jun 05, 2016
43 years ago, I had terminal cancer, they gave me 2 months to live, however, they neglected to tell me which 2 months, it has been a long wait so far?

I was diagnosed with testicular Carcinoma which had spread throughout my lymph system. I had no pain whatsoever, until the medical people started working on me, all I had was one testicle larger than the other and I spent about 2 months or more waiting for it to go back to normal, which it did not do. upon visiting my Doctor, I was immediately admitted to hospital and went through the process. The pain I had was pretty bad but only from the surgery. Had I not done anything about it, I am not sure what would have happened or how much pain I would have been in but for me all was well till I got operated on, all my pain was in the healing process.

I have not doubt in my mind, that Cancer is extremely painful for other types and I just feel fortunate I had what I had and ended up where I am, I sincerely hope I do not ever have another instance of this terrible disease, 2nd time through might not be as easy.

This is a photo of me getting my stitches out after I split open the incision from my surgery from coughing. When it happened prior to this photo, I was getting my dressings changed and coughed rather hard and I felt something tear. I told the nurse that I thought she should take a look under the dressing and when she did, I also took a look only to see all my insides hanging out on my belly. I was in intensive care at the time and I could hear them on the phone calling in all the doctors for an emergency surgery, the next thing

I knew was the nurse came back to the room with a big needle full of Demerol and I felt happy after that and don’t remember too much more till I woke up with extreme pain around my stomach. I had been bound up very tightly and had to stay that way for a long time, I lost track of how long It was or how long I was even in the hospital but I estimate around 2 months or more. As you can see, I was put back together with buttons. I still have the marks today.

EDIT: Cancer technology was rather primitive in those days. I can remember being on a scanner which went from side to side over my body, then moved down about a 1/2 inch and went back the other way while is scanned for the radiation tracers which had been injected into my body. I had to lay perfectly still for over 2 hours. I amused myself watching the relays click in and out as it must have been a prototype machine as it had no housing but all open framwork, you could see all the working parts. I was also subjected to Cobalt 69, something which is not used anymore (thank goodness) I had to lay on the floor as the machine would not go high enough to radiate the larger area of my body they needed to.

I received radiation for 15 minutes at a time for a 2 week period. I would leave the clinic and when I got home, I would throw up for hours on end due to radiation poisoning. I still suffer from some of its effects today. 15 Minutes was a rather long time considering most people would only get it for a minute or two. After the surgery, I went for another 2 weeks of this followed by 2 years of Chemotherapy. I would have to get Chemo once a month for 5 days in a row but never ever made it past 4 as my white cells could not fight it off. After getting it each day I would go home and go to bed with a bucket and throw up every hour on the hour (it seemed) until I had nothing to throw up anymore. I also never missed a day of work while on Chemo as I found if I stayed home it was worse, going to work took my mind off of it and helped me to get through it all.

Travel19 Things Airlines Don’t Want To Tell You by ItuExchange(op): 10:29pm On Jun 04, 2016
When I think of flight attendants, I’m reminded of the classic Saturday Night Live sketch in which David Spade, and usually a co-host, would greet passengers on their way off the plane with a reluctant smile and a dismissive “buh-bye.” People in the service industry do not have easy jobs, and flight attendants especially have a lot to juggle, and they’re required to do it while providing excellent customer service.

Airline crew members must train for eight weeks with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) before they’re allowed into the position. They must learn CPR, first aid, in-flight firefighting, defibrillation, emergency landing procedures, and security. Plus, they must provide excellent customer services or risk the wrath of grumpy passengers.

Most of the men and women in this position are much too professional to talk poorly about their jobs to any customers, but don’t you secretly want them to give the dirt? Fortunately, I spoke to two friend who work as flight attendants, and they agreed to divulge some of the secrets of their job. Likewise, they led me to a Reddit thread where other pilots and flight attendants divulged some of their secrets. Please SHARE these secrets. If they’re true, it’s good to know!

TravelIf A Plane Crash Is Certain, Should Pilots Tell The Passengers? by ItuExchange(op): 9:46pm On Jun 03, 2016
If a plane crash is certain, are the passengers informed?

Back in 1989, Varig Flight 254 (Boeing 737–200) ended up with no fuel above the Amazon Forest due to a series of piloting errors.

In the final moments before landing in the jungle, the pilot said:

"Ladies and gentleman, this is the captain speaking. We had a disorientation failure in our compass systems. We are about to run out of fuel, having 15 minutes remaining. We ask you all to remain calm, because a situation like this is very unlikely to happen. We let you all have the hope that this doesn't become anything more than a scare for us all. For your attention, thank you very much, and let us all have a good ending."

It wasn't very helpful in my opinion.

12 people died, 42 survived.

FamilyWhat Is It Like To Be Raised By Overprotective Parents? by ItuExchange(op): 7:15am On Jun 02, 2016
What is it like to be raised by helicopter parents?

i.e. Parents who carries their kids backpack while they get whatever they want, micromanaging everything out of love and fear

Unfortunately, you learn to lie real quick. If things aren't done their way, you'll hear about it and for a long time. Helicopter parents are micromanagers in disguise. When you finally realize you don't want them hovering over you living your life for you, you begin to do things your own way.

When you find out that this pisses them off, you learn to still do things your own way, but then lie to say you did it their way to just keep the peace. It sucks and no child should have to grow up that way, but I did. I came from a wealthy family who lived well and always had nice things. Therefore, in my parents' minds, things had to be done mommy's and daddy's way, or else....grounded, lectured, extra chores, etc. They use excuses like "we don't want anything less from you or for you than what we can provide". I get that, I do, but there are SEVERAL other ways to go about that.

Heck! I'm 34 and my dad has STILL tried to get me to move back home to a whole other city and into their house. I am married with 3 kids and stable careers and have a nice home, and they still did this just a few months ago. At age 29, I specifically remember being at my parents house visiting for the weekend, and I was going out on a date with my now husband. I came downstairs and he got a paper towel and started wiping off my makeup and said I didn't need it and should not be going out with it on. At age 31, he drove up to the city where I live when I mentioned I wa getting a new car.

He arrived at my door in time for me to be going to a dealership and then proceeded to somehow in the weirdest way, talk me into buying a car I didn't really like. I resented it almost immediately. He somehow also managed to be a co signer. It's not just him either. My mom is somehow always on the phone with him directing him when this stuff is going on. I can't get away!

Foreign AffairsWhat Would Happen If 50 Armed Men Attacked The White House? by ItuExchange(op): 8:50am On Jun 01, 2016
What would happen if the White House came under siege by 50 armed attackers while the President was in the residence?

They'd be wiped out in less time than it takes to print this. Do you realize the amount of firepower there is in the DC metro area? It's not a small army, it's the HQ of the most capable military on the planet. Just to mention a single tool out of the world's largest military toolbox, but how many attack helicopters do you think they'd need? There would be some mild professional jealousy and drinks bought for the few lucky enough to get in on the counter response.

The 50 armed attackers would feel the full force of the United States Secret Service, the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, every single outlet of federal and local law enforcement within thirty miles, members of the United States Armed Forces, and the American People (be it a tourist, an office employee, or the Washington Nationals Baseball Franchise who happen to be visiting the White House that day).

The assailants would quickly realize that the United States will not tolerate the People's House being bullied, and it would likely be the last thoughts the attackers ever had.

Anything else would offer insight into security measures that I cannot answer. My apologies.

EducationShould 5 years of working experience be equal to a bachelor’s degree? by ItuExchange(op): 11:00am On May 30, 2016
Do you think that 5 years of work experience in a particular field should be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree?

There is immense value in work-based learning, and I think apprenticeship programs are a perfect illustration of this. Programs like The Apprentice School in Newport News demonstrate how apprenticeships prepare workers for high-paying, high-skilled career fields by providing them with technical training, often at a much lower cost than traditional post-secondary education programs. According to a study by the Department of Labor, workers who finish apprenticeships earn an average of $240,000 more in wages over a lifetime than job seekers with similar work experience.

Not only do apprenticeships provide increased wages, they are beneficial to both employers and older employees ready to retire by letting them phase into retirement and guaranteeing a cost-effective transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next. The seamless transfer of skills is particularly essential within trade-related industries, where apprenticeships allow companies to retain expertise while developing the skills of the younger workers.

FamilyI Catch A Young Bully Beating My Child, What Should I Do? by ItuExchange(op): 11:04am On May 29, 2016
We lived at an apartment complex where a boy was seen shooting at 2 of my daughters with an Airsoft gun. He managed to hit one of my daughters. I confronted the boy, who was about 12 years old. I politely told him that he needs to stop shooting at my daughters. I also politely told him that if he continued, I would not be so polite, next time. Shortly, there was a knock at my door. It was the boy’s mother. She practically punched my door in, screaming through my closed door. I called the police. They escorted her back to her place and talked to the both of us, separately. It sounded as if the police officers agreed with the way I handled things… no need to start fights with adults when a stern warning to a child should suffice.

The following week, I received a notice that my family was being evicted, due to “not fitting in with the culture of the community, therefore we would likely be happier elsewhere”. We were given 10 days to find alternate housing and move out. Somehow, we managed under such short notice. But, as it turned out, the boy that was seen shooting at my daughters was the son of an employee of the management company that owned the apartment complex that we called “home”. Word of my stern warning surfaced and went to the property manager. I told her my side of the story, but my side did not matter… we were evicted, end of story. We moved out and they were right… we are MUCH happier not being at that sh*thole of an apartment complex…

So, long story short… I dealt with a bully by confronting him and it got my family evicted. Seems that bullying runs in that family…

PropertiesThe Best/easiest Way To Pay For The Lagos State Land Use Charge by ItuExchange(op): 12:12pm On May 27, 2016
Many faithful citizens of Lagos have had some kinds of difficulties in paying for the Lagos State Land Use Charge. Some would need to do return visits to banks, because network isn’t good for several days consecutively.

If you happen to pay at those banks, it may take ages for you to get your receipt. Even if you get it the same day, you could’ve waited hours. Few banks would issue you your receipt without delay.

What is the best and easiest way to pay for the Lagos State Land Use Charge?

Answer: Go to Alausa Secretariat in Ikeja. You go only once in a year, and the excellent service you enjoy there would compensate for your transportation inconvenience. When you get there, ask for Land Use Charge office (where you can pay). Those who’re in the payment office would be happy to attend to you. You don’t need to fill any deposit slip or queue. Simply present your bill, pay for it, and get your receipt. You’ll spend a maximum of 10 minutes.

While going to your nearest bank looks easy, issues may arise that would eventually make it necessary for you to go to Alausa. It’s far better and easier to go to Alausa Secretariat and pay there.

CrimeIs The Lagos State Land Use Charge An Official 419 Scam? by ItuExchange(op): 8:31am On May 26, 2016
Now, some people in Lagos State are complaining bitterly about the issues surrounding the Lagos State Land Use Charge. Many things don’t seem to be right.

Those who paid fully last year are still being notified of the arrears to be paid (balance to be carried forward). Why?

APC handed over to APC in Lagos State, not APC handed to over PDP. Why did they change all the phone numbers, email and office addresses on the Lagos State Land Use Charge bill?

Even the phone numbers on the new bills aren’t functional. If they go through while you call. No-one will pick it. They’ll always be busy or switched off. The same is true of their email addresses: Don’t expect any response if you send email to them? Why?

I don’t know what’s wrong with Federal and State government ministries, parastatals, agencies, etc. The phone numbers and email address displayed on their websites are as good as useless. Why are we so backward? When would we get out of this, when in other lands, you can get issues resolved via the Internet?

Even if you complain to their officials in person, they answer you peevishly and fretfully? Why do they do their jobs reluctantly?

When you attempt to pay for the Lagos State Land Use Charge at other banks, they may say the network is bad or you mayn’t get your receipt. Why?

The truth is: The Lagos State Land Use Charge isn’t a scam. It’s a good thing, and it helps Lagos State serve the citizens better. But the issues above need to be addressed.

SportsWhy Countries Are Willing To Cheat For Olympic Gold by ItuExchange(op): 10:04pm On May 17, 2016
Russian scientist claims country engaged in doping during Sochi games

Some countries are willing to do whatever it takes — maybe even passing cups of urine through a hole in the wall — to bolster national pride.

The U.S. Department of Justice is launching an investigation into government-sponsored doping of Russian athletes after the World Anti-Doping Agency issued a report in November with evidence of doping practices in Russia and a New York Times report in May detailed the process by which Russian officials covered up the practice during the 2014 Sochi Olympics. U.S. prosecutors are permitted to pursue foreign cases if there is any relation to the U.S. Russian athletes have competed in the Boston Marathon and other major sporting events held on American soil.

Grigory Rodchenkov, the former director of the laboratory where drug testing was performed for the 2014 Sochi Olympics, told the New York Times that he and his co-workers helped Russian athletes take performance-enhancing drugs without being caught, with help from the government.

Russia may not be the only country in hot water. On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee announced that 31 athletes from six sports could be banned from competing in Rio after about 450 urine samples from the 2008 Beijing games were retested with more sophisticated methods. The organization said 12 countries will be informed of further investigations, but it could not provide more details for legal reasons.

In his account, Rodchenkov alleged that it was more important for Russia to end the games with the highest medal count than to guarantee that the games ran smoothly. The International Olympic Committee declined to comment and the Russian Olympic Committee didn’t respond to MarketWatch’s request for comment. “The whole medal count story is for the domestic audience,” says David Wallechinsky, president of the International Society of Olympic Historians, a nonprofit organization that collects and publishes research on the Olympic movement. “It doesn’t have to do with money, it has to do with domestic politics.”

Especially in highly-populated countries like Russia and China, a major Olympic medal haul sends a message of strength and stability to citizens, Wallechinsky says. Other major powers like the U.S. and the U.K. also have a sense of prestige when it comes to Olympic victories, but the significance is “lighter,” he says. However, nationalism plays a primary role for these countries as well, with high levels of media coverage and corporate involvement.

Countries hosting the games also feel pressure to win medals, proving their worth under international scrutiny. “The Canadians were traumatized when they hosted the Calgary Olympics and didn’t win any gold medals,” Wallechinsky says. “It hurts the national self-esteem.”

National pride is especially important to the Russian government as it works to establish itself as a major superpower in the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union, says Kathleen Smith, a professor at Georgetown University’s Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies. “They think that they’re a superpower, but the rest of the world doesn’t give them the respect they deserve,” Smith says. “They don’t want to be seen as a provincial country, and hosting and doing well at the Olympics is a way to show that.”

The government is willing to invest in this success, presenting luxury cars to medal winners at the 2012 London games to the outrage of some of its citizens. In the U.S., people get very excited, “but we look at victories as belonging to the individual athletes,” Smith says. “Russia sees them as belonging to the country.”

In Russia’s case, the meaning of Olympic medals has changed drastically over the past 25 years. Many medals that were being sold to Olympic collectors were coming from Eastern European athletes in the 1980s and 1990s says Jim Greensfelder, chief executive of Cincinnatis Memorabilia, a company that buys and sells Olympic memorabilia, and an advisor on medals for the International Olympic Committee’s museum. The market for collecting medals is in part fueled by athletes from countries in economic straits who can’t earn livable wages and are forced to make money by selling their memorabilia, he adds, noting that many of the recent medals on the market have come from Cuban athletes.

With the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, there was also a dispersal of athletes who had represented one country in the past, now distributed among various new nations. “They lost a lot of athletes, and financially, they were not in any position in the ‘90s to think about holding the Olympics,” Smith says.

Now athletes in Russia are highly regarded and rewarded, and the idea of selling their medals would be considered “unpatriotic and unwise,” she says.

Even in 2016, the U.S. gives little economic reward to athletes, who instead rely on corporate sponsorships for big payouts. One two-time U.S. Olympian even auctioned off ad space on his shoulder (in the form of a tattoo) for $22,000.

The doping allegations could potentially topple this sense of pride and economic strength Russia has worked so hard to achieve in the Olympic sphere. In response to the New York Times’ article, the World Anti-Doping Agency, which works with the International Olympic Committee to enforce the World Anti-Doping Code, said in a statement that it is looking into the allegations and determining a path of action. If proven, these allegations could potentially damage Russia’s attempts to bolster nationalism at home. “Their reputation really matters, but when you pull back the curtain, you see it’s built on a weak base,” Smith says.

HealthWhat Does Death Feel Like? by ItuExchange(op): 7:53pm On May 17, 2016
I also died in 1975 from a stab wound to the heart. I was stabbed by my room mate when I was 23 years old. I was asleep in my bed and he came in with a knife and stabbed me in my bed.
That was not nice. that fluttery feeling you get when something great happens to you was the opposite of what I felt. The knife in my chest woke me up, wherin I pulled it out, threw it on the floor, and yelled at him why the hell he wanted to do that to me? I then ran outside naked (that's how I slept) and down the stairs to the midpoint landing of my parents house. I then yelled at the apartements surrounding our house to wake someone, while the world went black and I collapsed. This was about 3:30 AM.

My room mate accidently saved me by dragging me back upstairs into the apartment where he dropped me face up. The cut in my heart was not so big that I bled internally to death right away and gravity kept the blood inside me.

My roommate (who was a 17 year old ward of county of los angeles, commonly called a foster child had been experimenting with angel dust in the days before it was named angel dust. It was just plain old horse tranquilizer in those days) went downstairs where my parents lived, woke them up and told them I was upstairs dead.

I was so near death that I knew nothing and felt nothing, but every so often, I heard a bit and answered questions. When the paramedics got there, they added blood to me to keep me from dying. I was accompanied by a sheriffs deputy that took a death bed statement from me which he asked me what happened and I said my room mate stabbed me
Then I went in and out of consciousness in the ambulance trip to the hospital. I remember waking up several times and hearing people talking about me. I could not understand anything except I knew that they were going to save me. that was enough at that point.
Later in the operating room, I 0pened my eyes to a darkened room with a bunch of people scurrying around me. One was a nice sounding woman holding my hand and (I now know) trying to find my pulse. She cried out in panic..

"DOCTOR! I can't find his PULSE" I was mildly amused by that since I opened my eyes to see her and see what the problem was. I knew at that point that I was not going to die because I was in the hospital and I felt no pain. NOTE: I hardly felt any pain at all. I did feel a horrible feeling of death itself but it was mental, and I didn't believe I would die because I was in the hospital and I knew that I had to be there to save my life. I knew that the most important thing in the world was that I was in that hospital and I could wake up and see something occasionally. There was not so much pain as the absence of it. IF you ever let your arm go to sleep by sleeping on it for hours and you wake up to it completely numb, that is how your whole body feels. numb. Not in pain but the absence of pain. The mental anquish is quiet. no crying, no shouting no yelling. you have no energy for that. that is the peacefull feeling people talk about but it's not nice. It's horrible.

The doctor said 'Try his ankles" and I felt someone touching my ankle. then I heard the same womans voice say 'OH.. There it is" in obvious relief.
AT that point I went back to sleep with the single thought in my head that I was going to live. I was then cut open including cutting my sternum with a saw, then they pull everything out of the way looking for the source of my blood leak and found the corner of m heart was cut open. If my roommate had known to twist the knife when he stabbed me I would be in a cemetery these last 42 years. The doctors then stopped my heart from beating for an unknown amount of time while they sewed up the cut. Then they restarted my heart (hence I died and was reborn).

I woke up 2 days later in the most horrible pain I have ever felt. My entire chest was one mass of pain and every breath felt like fire. The worst thing was the tube they stuck down my nose tube (into my lungs) every hour to suck out liquids to keep me from developing pneumonia. The most horrible thing of all was the tube went all the way to the bottom of my lungs (both sides) until I coughed. when I coughed the pain multiplied by about 250 times and I cried each time they did it. It got so I cried when I saw them coming with the tube and I tried to beg them to not do that any more, but I could not speak or move. I just was a slab of meat to treat and I had to cough or they wouldn't pull it back out. I hated that worst off all.

After I recovered (at the expense of being given blood with Hepatitus C) I never ever wanted to have pain killers. I learned something about pain, and here it is. Pain? Is not actually painfull the brain hates pain only because its wired to. The brain is wired in the certain fashion to escape from pain because pain is a signal from the body part to the brain that some part of your body is in mortal peril of death. That is the signal and when the brain gets that signal the brain is wired to respond with something that we knowas horror. The horror of some part of our body being cut or burned or eaten.. triggers the horror and panic to stop it. that is how the brain interprets it but in reality, its a simple signal. The real horror is in the mind because it knows what's happening. It knows that your life is in danger. From the tiniest pain to what I went through it's all just a signal with no real power.

The horror that the mind feels is the fear of death telling you that you have to do something to escape that pain. That's how we are made and how all animals are made. The fear of death and the panic is the real power and strength of the pain. That's why in the war, when the solders are tortured, when they truly understand this, they can endure any pain to save someone they truly love Since the basis of the true power of the pain is in the mind, once the mind knows something is really worth it, it can choose to ignore the pain and since it's just a signal, it can be done. Once you truely know that some pain will not kill you, you can ignore it. It never goes away, but it doesn't kill you. The signal is not smart only the horror felt by the brain is the bad part.

People are correct. you don't actually feel anything before it happens. You may not feel much at the time it happens cause of all the body defenses kicking in but if you survive, you will certainly feel every horrible part of it. Since true death is one way, you never feel that much pain. By the time you die, your brain is the only part that (mostly) can understand and it will think about how much it doesn't want to die. but in the end, you know you are dieing and you go to sleep. If your body is strong and young as mine was, you may survive with help as I had. but eventually it comes to us all. I go to dentist and ask to have dental work done with no novacaine.

Why? Because the horror of the pain made me hate the feeling of numbness. the feeling of no pain became my biggest fear and a little pain in a dentist chair became minor. I have had the weirdest looks from dentists when I tell them no novacaine. But since pain killer is expensive and they don't have to refund me for it, they save a big expense when they comply with me.

I subsequently had hepatitis c for 42 years and am just going to the doctors in 3 days to be tested and start treatment to cure it. When that happens I may become truly pain free for the fist time in 42 years and I look forward to it. Greatly. The death part is simple. You sleep, then you don't wake up.

The pleasant floating sensation is what I hate now. That sensation of floating tells me I am dieing and I refuse to let myself feel pain free unless it's healthy pain free. I am not so sure. It's been 42 years since I was truely pain free but I think I will like it when I finally achieve it. I have wondered what it will be like to be 63 years old and pain free.

Enough. I have gone way out side this question, but I wanted to put into words what I have been thinking for 42 years. I wonder if anyone else wants to say anything about this?

PhonesNokia CEO Ended His Speech And Cried by ItuExchange(op): 8:37am On May 16, 2016
Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”.

During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”. Upon saying that, all his management team, himself included, teared sadly.

Nokia has been a respectable company. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, however, the world changed too fast. Their opponents were too powerful.

They missed out on learning, they missed out on changing, and thus they lost the opportunity at hand to make it big. Not only did they miss the opportunity to earn big money, they lost their chance of survival.

The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the competition.

It’s not wrong if you don’t want to learn new things. However, if your thoughts and mindset cannot catch up with time, you will be eliminated.

Conclusion:
1. The advantage you have yesterday, will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow. You don’t have to do anything wrong, as long as your competitors catch the wave and do it RIGHT, you can lose out and fail.

To change and improve yourself is giving yourself a second chance. To be forced by others to change, is like being discarded.
Those who refuse to learn & improve, will definitely one day become redundant & not relevant to the industry. They will learn the lesson in a hard & expensive way.

ComputersWhat To Do If Hackers Hold Your Computer Hostage And Demand Cash by ItuExchange(op): 10:14pm On May 15, 2016
Ransom?

Let’s start with the basics. A particularly nefarious form of malware, ransomware is a piece of software criminals use to lock you out of your computer by encrypting its files and holding them for ransom for a specific dollar amount.

If you don’t pay up, you can potentially say goodbye to your photos, tax documents, pay stubs, and any other documents you’ve saved throughout the years.

This isn’t some idle threat, either. If you don’t pay, your documents will disappear or simply stay locked up until you completely reformat your system.

Ransomware programs sometimes require you to pay in Bitcoin, an anonymous currency that can’t be tracked.

However, criminals have increasingly begun demanding payment in the form of iTunes or Amazon gift cards, since the average person doesn’t know how to use Bitcoin, according to Gary Davis, chief consumer security evangelist at Intel Security.

The amount you have to pay to unlock your computer can vary, with some experts saying criminals will ask for up to $500.

To be clear, ransomware doesn’t just target Windows PCs. The malware has been known to impact systems ranging from Android phones and tablets to Linux-based computers and Macs.

Where it comes from

According to Davis, ransomware was actually popular among cybercriminals over a decade ago. But it was far easier to catch the perpetrators back then since anonymous currency like Bitcoin didn’t exist yet. Bitcoin helped changed all that by making it nearly impossible to track criminals based on how victims pay them.

There are multiple types of ransomware out there, according to Chester Wisniewski, a senior security advisor with the computer security company Sophos. Each variation is tied to seven or eight criminal organizations.

Those groups build the software and then sell it on the black market, where other criminals purchase it and then begin using it for their own gains.

How they get you

Ransomware doesn’t just pop up on your computer by magic. You actually have to download it. And while you could swear up and down that you’d never be tricked into downloading malware, cybercriminals get plenty of people to do just that.

Here’s the thing: That email you opened to get ransomware on your computer in the first place was specifically written to get you to believe it was real. That’s because criminals use social engineering to craft their messages.

For example, hackers can determine your location and send emails that look like they’re from companies based in your country.

“Criminals are looking are looking up information about where you live, so you’ll click (emails),” Wisniewski explained to Yahoo Finance. “So if you’re in America, you’ll see something from Citi Bank, rather than Deutsche Bank, which is in Germany.”

Cybercriminals can also target ransomware messages to the time of year. So if it’s the holiday shopping season, criminals might send out messages supposedly from companies like the US Postal Service, FedEx or DHL. If it’s tax time, you could receive a message that says it’s from the IRS.

Other ransomware messages might claim the FBI has targeted you for using illegal software or viewing child pornography on your computer. Then, the message will tell you to click a link to a site to pay a fine — only to lock up your computer after you click.

It’s not just email, though. An attack known as a drive-by can get you if you simply visit certain websites. That’s because criminals have the ability to inject their malware into ads or links on poorly secured sites. When you go to such a site, you’ll download the ransomware. Just like that, you’re locked out of your computer.

How to protect yourself

Ransomware attacks vulnerabilities in outdated versions of software. So, believe it or not, the best way to protect yourself is to constantly update your operating system’s software and apps like Adobe Reader. That means you should always click that little “update” notification on your desktop, phone, or tablet. Don’t put it off.

Beyond that, you should always remember to back up your files. You can either do that by backing them up to a cloud service like Amazon Cloud, Google Drive or iCloud, or by backing up to an external drive.

That said, you’ll want to be careful with how you back up your content. That’s because, according to Kaspersky Lab’s Ryan Naraine, some ransomware can infect your backups.

Naraine warns against staying logged into your cloud service all the time, as some forms of malware can lock you out of even them. What’s more, if you’re backing up to an external hard drive, you’ll want to disconnect it from your PC when you’re finished, or the ransomware could lock that, as well.

Naraine also says you should disconnect your computer from the internet if you see your system being actively encrypted. Doing so, he explains, could prevent all of your files that have yet to be encrypted from being locked.

Above all, every expert I spoke with recommended installing some form of anti-virus software and some kind of web browser filtering. With both types of software installed, your system up to date, and a backup available, you should be well-protected.

Oh, and for the love of god, avoid downloading any suspicious files or visiting sketchy websites.

What to do if you’re infected

RomanceHalf Of Your Friends Probably Don’t Think Of You As A Friend by ItuExchange(op): 8:53pm On May 15, 2016
Here’s a fun exercise: Take a minute and count up all your friends. Not just the close ones, or the ones you’ve seen recently — I mean every single person on this Earth that you consider a pal.

Got a number in your mind? Good. Now cut it in half.

Okay, yes, “fun” may have been a bit of a reach there. But this new, smaller number may actually be more accurate. As it turns out, we can be pretty terrible at knowing who our friends are: In what may be among the saddest pieces of social-psychology research published in quite some time, a study in the journal PLoS One recently made the case that as many as half the people we consider our friends don’t feel the same way.

The study authors gave a survey to 84 college students in the same class, asking each one to rate every other person in the study on a scale of zero (“I do not know this person”) to five (“One of my best friends”), with three as the minimum score needed to qualify for friendship. The participants also wrote down their guesses for how each person would rate them.

Overall, the researchers documented 1,353 cases of friendship, meaning instances where one person rated another as a three or higher. And in 94 percent of them, the person doing the ranking guessed that the other person would feel the same way.

Which makes sense — you probably wouldn’t call someone a friend, after all, unless you thought that definition was mutual. That’s why we have terms to capture more one-sided relationships, like friend crush or hey, I don’t really know her but I think she’s neat. Both of which, come to think of it, might have been better descriptors of a lot of the relationships in the study. In reality, only 53 percent of the friendships — a small, sad, oh honey number of them — were actually reciprocal.

Some caveats: The study was small, and all the subjects were undergraduates; friendships change over the course of a lifetime, and it’s certainly possible that, over time, many tenuous lopsided friendships can dwindle to a more solid few. But the study authors also looked at a handful of previous surveys on friendship, ranging in size from 82 people to 3,160, and found similar results: Among those, the highest proportion of reciprocal friendships was 53 percent, and the lowest was a bummer, at 34 percent.

“These findings suggest a profound inability of people to perceive friendship reciprocity, perhaps because the possibility of non-reciprocal friendship challenges one’s self-image,” the study authors wrote. Fair enough. No one likes to think of themselves as the unwanted hanger-on, chasing a relationship that doesn’t really exist and maybe never will; this blind spot, then, may be a form of emotional self-defense. Luckily, though, it’s almost the weekend, so you’ll have plenty of time to give things a good hard look and question everything you thought you knew.

FamilyMy 17 Year Old Daughter Challenged My Authority Over Her, Should I Beat Her? by ItuExchange(op): 1:08am On May 15, 2016
My 17 year old daughter said something horrible to me, should I punish her?

I'M 20 WEEKS PREGNANT AND MY DAUGHTER SAID SOMETHING SO HORRIBLE. SHE SAID IT IN FRONT ME AND MY HUSBAND! SHE YELLED AT ME AND SAID "I HOPE THE BABY DIES! YOUR JUST A SLUT WHO GOT KNOCKED UP!" I'M VERY SHOCKED WHAT SHOULD I DO? MY HUSBAND IS UPSET OVER THIS BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

As someone who was only just recently a teenager, I can tell you that punishing your daughter as one commenter suggested will not help. While I can't imagine calling my mother a slut or wishing death on her baby if she had been pregnant, I can imagine feeling what your daughter is most likely feeling. I'm going to assume that your daughter is an only child for now, and your pregnancy probably hurts her feelings. Think about this: one day, your husband comes to you and says, "Darling, you are the best wife I could ever hope for. I love you so much that I've decided to get a second wife." You would be hurt and angry. You wouldn’t feel like you were loved, you'd feel like you were being replaced. When I was younger, I used to have nightmares about my mom having another child. Nothing fantastic would happen in the dream, it would just be that my mom had another baby and suddenly I was displaced. It also didn't help that I had an older sister who was incredibly mean to me (and still is) and I worried that I would have another cruel sibling in the house.

It is really hard for kids to get used to the idea of having a sibling, especially if they are only children. You are probably thrilled at the new addition to your family. I'm guessing that she isn't. I'm also going to assume that your husband is not your daughter's father and that you remarried somewhat recently, based on the fact that your daughter is seventeen and you're having a new baby. She is probably hurt that you are making a new family with your new husband and she doesn't feel like she's going to be a part of it. She doesn’t feel like she fits into the equation: there's going to be a mommy, a daddy, a baby, and then a girl who only has half a connection to everyone but you.

I also find it hard to believe that she just walked into the room and hurled this insult at you. My guess is you were probably having an argument of some sort, and it was probably about something to do with the baby (maybe she wanted to go out one day, but you wanted her to stay for a baby shower or something like that). I'm not trying to say that you were automatically in the wrong in this argument, but she might have felt attacked for no reason and lashed out by saying that she wished your baby was dead. She probably doesn't actually wish your baby was dead, but she might wish it had never been conceived. Like I said, many children have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that they are going to have a sibling, and the fact that she's 17 instead of 7 won't change her feelings about it.

Here are some things I would recommend you do, from the perspective of someone who was recently a teen who would have hated having a new sibling:

Sit down with her and have a talk about what she said. Tell her that it really hurt your feelings and ask her why she felt the need to say it. ask her about her honest feelings about the new baby. Listen. Don't interrupt her, don't correct her, just hear her out. If you can, don't start crying, no matter if she says she hates you, your husband, or especially if she says she hates the new baby. That will seem like emotional blackmail, and it's really not fair to try to bury her completely legitimate feelings in your tears.

Assure her that while you may love this new baby the same as her, you will never love it more than her. It doesmy matter that you love and are married to this baby's father and you don't love her father, you love your children equally. Tell her how great it is that you have a teenaged child who you can talk to as an equal, and how this new child will not change your relationship.

This is a really important one, at least to me. DO NOT MAKE YOUR DAUGHTER YOUR DE FACTO CHILDCARE. Do not force her to watch your new baby on date night. Do not make her change the baby when you need a hand. Do not make her feed baby when you are tired. She is not your personal nanny. She did not choose to have a baby, you did, and she should not have to take any responsibility for it. Try to give your daughter a bedroom that's far away from the baby's so she doesn't have to wake up when the baby does (I know that might not be possible, but if it is, please do it). If you make this baby change your daughter's life in a negative way, she will resent it and you. She's 17, she doesn't have to put up with this for very long, and if she really feels angry about this new baby, odds are, she won't come back and visit as often as you would like or develop a positive relationship with her sibling.

That said, she may want to hang out with the baby by holding it, feeding it, or playing with it (the enjoyable parts of having a baby). Let her do this without telling her that she also has to the bad parts of having a baby. Like I said, you chose to have a baby, she did not choose to have a sibling. She is 17 years old; she's probably not going to be a real sister to that baby. She's probably going to move out in a year or so and go to college or start a career, and she certainly isn't going to grow up with the baby. Ler her be more like the cool aunt, where she does all the fun things with the new baby without having any real "responsibility" for it. Let her enjoy being a big sister instead of resenting it.

Try not to change her schedule. In fact, give her more freedom. Let her choose what she wants to do after school. Don't force her to go and do things with the baby or for your pregnancy. Don't make her drive to the store and get you some pickles for your cravings, don't make her be there for the baby shower if she doesn't want to, and don't make her be there at the hospital or in the delivery room when you have the baby. It may make you sad not to have her there, but you'll be sadder if she ends up hating that baby.

Above all, don't let her harsh words get to you. I doubt she actually thinks you are a slut or wants the baby dead. More likely than not, she's acting out because you had an argument or because she feels unloved or displaced by the new baby. I know it might be hard to hear since you were the one who was wronged in this situation, but as the parent, you need to treat her with love and compassion instead of anger and punishment. It is perfectly normal for teens to say things like "I hate you" to their parents, and what she said is just an extension of that. I'm sorry you had to hear your daughter say that when you are probably already emotional from your pregnancy, but don't take it to heart. Talk with her and treat her with love and respect. Don't let her feel less loved because of this new baby. I hope this helps!

CelebritiesThis Is 2pac Shakur’s Only Sister by ItuExchange(op): 12:53am On May 15, 2016
After Tupac Shakur’s untimely death ten years ago today, his family fought for the control of his unreleased work and presented it to the world – in the process, selling millions of records, creating a successful clothing line, and producing an Oscar-nominated film. While Afeni Shakur was the engine that powered the franchise and is still going strong to this day, another Shakur, Tupac’s sister is another cog in the machine.

Known as just “Set” to family and friends, ‘Pac’s younger sister Sekyiwa – born two years after Pac to Afeni and Dr. Mutulu Shakur – knew Tupac and his idiosyncrasies long before his ascend to the top, and as his sibling, can offer a sobering perspective. Attending high school in New York, she watched from afar as ‘Pac took used Hip-Hop as a platform to address social ills and give an unapologetic, eye-opening look into the lives of young Black men in America.

Herself still battling issues that arise from being a descendant of a revolutionary Black woman in America, Set Shakur is coming into her own with a motivational book and a clothing line in the works. For the tenth anniversary of her beloved brother’s death, however, she took AllHipHop on a journey through her childhood growing up with ‘Pac to the present, offering up some interesting words along the way.

AllHipHop.com: For starters, please tell us about your clothing line.

Sekyiwa Shakur: Right now it’s called Madamevelli; it’s a high fashion line coming out next fall.

AllHipHop.com: Is this an outgrowth of Makaveli Branded?

Sekyiwa Shakur: Not at all. I’m considering changing the name, because people always compare it. I went to a Magic Show to support Makaveli Branded and to be with my family. I cut up five different outfits and made outfits out of them, and I was in the booth, and while I was in there, a buyer came in and saw what I had on and said, ‘That’s what I want on my racks.’ And that’s what gave me inspiration to do the clothing line. It started with Makaveli Branded, but then I wanted creative control. I am considering changing it.

AllHipHop.com: Why not something like ‘Set Shakur’?

Sekyiwa Shakur: I kind of like my privacy. Because [as seen with] my brother, his real name was his stage name, he couldn’t escape into a private world. I didn’t want my identity out there.

AllHipHop.com: Is this something you’ve always wanted to do?

Sekyiwa Shakur: For about three years, I’ve been working on it.

AllHipHop.com: I read your column over at AOL Black Voices Web site, where you describe how beauty and fashion helps you deal with bipolar disorder and depression. Can you explain?

Sekyiwa Shakur: Okay, I’m so proud of that story. Since it’s AllHipHop, I’m going to give it my all.

EducationThe Result Of A Weird/strange Experiment On A Human Baby! by ItuExchange(op): 9:19am On May 14, 2016
What would happen if you put a newborn in a room with no human contact and just fed it food and water until it grew up?

Regrettably, may I introduce to you "Genie, the wild child". As a freshman in psychology you become exposed to such extreme cases, and genie is one of a handful of cases that you're describing.

She was, as you described, not exposed to human contact or society and was raised in complete social isolation, only being given basic biological needs (if I remember correctly she was not even taught or shown how to properly take care of herself when she reached puberty). It's widely agreed that she never fully developed cognitively due to the abuse and neglect she suffered.

The most important finding that was confirmed through Genie's discovery is the existence of critical learning periods, ages after which it is nearly impossible to ever learn how to do certain things; specifically, once you pass the critical period for language, you may never learn to communicate at all, and Genie never really progressed to show a genuine grasp of language despite the efforts of cognitive psychologists and psycholinguists.

Throughout the case, there is a suspicion that Genie may have suffered from a cognitive disorder/disability from birth. This being said, the question is: was Genie's inability to develop a result of her neglect?

The answer is no. If anyone is interested, there is a term in statistics called interaction effect. This phenomenon is what happens when the combination of two variables has a significant outcome, but the individual variables in isolation are insignificant. In our class discussions, we also questioned whether Genie's final condition was as a result of her suspected cognitive impairment, a result of her neglect, or a result of both. It was widely agreed that it was both, and the interaction effect played a huge role in settling our ideas.

That being said, I still believe the case of Genie satisfies, with concrete evidence, the question of the likely outcome of totally neglecting a human being for many years from birth.

Thanks to everyone for the discussion points in the comments! I've included some of the informative links submitted in the comments section below. They include more examples and case studies of this phenomenon:

Foreign AffairsCould 1,000 Roman Soldiers Face 10 Modern Soldiers? by ItuExchange(op): 8:59am On May 14, 2016
Who would win a fight, 1,000 Roman soldiers, or 10 fully equipped Navy Seals with unlimited ammo?

The concept behind this question isn't entirely hypothetical, in that there is somewhat of a historical precedent, and it would suggest the SEALs would win.

Consider the battle of Cajamarca, between Spanish conquistadores and the Inca in 1532. Battle of Cajamarca.

At this battle, dozens of Spanish - with technologically superior weapons and armor that served them quite well against the weapons the lightly-armed Incan warriors had - were able to defeat thousands of Incans.

There was certainly more to Cajamarca than just disparate weaponry and armor, though. Other important factors included:
The surprise factor that favored the Spanish. The Inca were not expecting an attack; the Spanish had firearms, which were foreign to and confused and surprised the Inca; the Spanish had cavalry, and horses were entirely strange to the Inca.
The Spanish quickly captured the Incan leader, Atahualpa, early in the engagement and so the Inca were left leaderless.

Nonetheless, think about the factors the SEALs would have in their favor:
An ability to start taking out Roman warriors and a great distance, taking them out of the equation long before those warriors could be any threat to the SEALs.
An ability to target Roman commanders and generals early in the engagement, leaving remaining soldiers leaderless and perhaps confused.
The supreme shock their weapons would cause - Roman soldiers would likely be confused, surprised, and even scared of the noises coming from the SEALs weapons and seeing their comrades succumbing to seemingly invisible forces (bullets) from a great distance.

The Roman's own tactics working against them.

While the Roman's infantry formation was quite effective in hand-to-hand melee combat and battles of their day, imagine what an appealing target that would be for SEALs firing weapons from a distance - you're unlikely to miss! Roman soldiers, packed so closely together in formation and slowly marching towards you provide a massive target and even if your bullet misses someone in the front row, it's likely to eventually find a body a row or two deep. Just aim in that grouping's general direction and you're going to hit someone.

Mobility. The SEALs could be concealed, hiding behind terrain and moving about the battlefield in a manner the Roman soldiers would not be used to dealing with. Even if the battle's taking place in an open field, large, tight group formations would still be at a disadvantage when trying to maneuver in response to a quick, agile group of SEALs. Further, while attempting to maneuver, more and more Romans would be getting taken out by the SEALs' rounds.

I suppose, were a significant-enough number of Romans able to get within striking distance of the SEALs, those numbers alone would be enough to eventually overpower the smaller force. But one would have to assume that suffering so many casualties before being able to inflict any, possibly losing their leaders, and being entirely unprepared for the types of weapons they'd be seeing and falling to, even hundreds of Roman soldiers still standing might be less than inclined to continue attempting to pursue the SEALs.
