California on Wednesday became the first US state to require solar panels on all new residential buildings as part of efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The California Energy Commission said the new building standards, adopted unanimously by its members, will go into effect on January 1, 2020. “We are the first, we will not be the last,” commissioner David Hochschild said after the new mandate was adopted. “This is a landmark vote today.” According to the plan, homeowners could expect to pay 40 US dollars more on their mortgage, but should save 80 US dollars a month on heating, cooling and lighting bills. The commission said the new standards will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an amount equivalent to taking 115,000 fossil fuel cars off the road. Members said they expect other states to follow suit in the coming years. http://www.vondanews.com/california-becomes-first-us-state-to-embrace-solar-energy-on-new-homes/

Leaders of the United States and North Korea will meet for the first time when President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un hold a summit on June 12 in Singapore where the U.S. side will try to persuade Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons. The two men, whose countries are still technically at war – exchanged fiery rhetoric last year over North Korea’s attempts to build a nuclear weapon that could reach the United States. But tensions have since eased greatly, starting around the time of the North’s participation in the Winter Olympics in South Korea in February. “The highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong Un and myself will take place in Singapore on June 12th. We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!” Trump wrote on Twitter. see more:http://www.vondanews.com/trump-and-kim-jong-un-to-meet-on-june-12-in-singapore/

Pakatan Harapan leader Mahathir Mohamad has been sworn in as Malaysia’s new prime minister today. Mahathir’s coalition won the simple majority in Wednesday’s polls, defeating the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition under Najib Razak. The 92-year-old, who served as the country’s prime minister between 1981 and 2003, became the world’s oldest elected leader after a shock victory in Malaysia’s fiercely-contested election. In a ceremony at the national palace steeped in centuries-old Muslim Malay tradition, Mahathir was officially sworn in as prime minister by King Sultan Muhammad V. Mahathir, dressed in traditional Malay dress, took the oath of office in an elaborately decorated room, with political allies and senior government officials in attendance. “I, Mahathir Mohamad, after being elected as prime minister, swear to carry out my task with all my ability and that I will be loyal to Malaysia and preserve and defend the constitution,” he said. see full: http://www.vondanews.com/mahathir-mohamad-sworn-in-as-malaysias-new-prime-minister/

According to 9to5mac, Apple INC has already removed a number of apps from the Store that share users’ location to third parties without their explicit consent. In the letter it sent to the affected developers, Apple told them their applications didn’t comply with Legal sections 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 of the App Store Review Guidelines. Those sections state that apps must not transmit “user location data to third parties without explicit consent from the user and for unapproved purposes.” Apple also told them they need to remove any code, framework or SDK used for location data collection and third-party sharing before their apps can be listed on the Store again. Cupertino has started cracking down on apps that violate its location data rules just before the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation law takes effect on May 25th. Other tech titans are also preparing for its implementation. Facebook, for instance, recently made its privacy policy easier to understand following the Cambridge Analytica scandal and will also ask users to review information on the way the website uses their data. Apple might have also started enforcing those specific sections in its guidelines after high-profile fiascos that involve user location, such as what happened to MoviePass. The subscription-based movie service’s chief once proclaimed the company watches “how you drive from home to the movies.” MoviePass quickly backtracked and ultimately removed the app’s “unused” location features. Whether Apple is truly doing this to comply with GDPR is unclear — we’ve reached out to the company and will update this post when we hear back See More:http://www.vondanews.com/apple-is-reportedly-pulling-apps-that-share-location-data/

http://www.vondanews.com/trumps-cia-pick-promises-no-more-harsh-interrogation-program/ U.S. President Donald Trump’s nominee to head the CIA will promise lawmakers on Wednesday she will never resume a program of harsh interrogations, often denounced as torture, that has been the major issue complicating her confirmation. Democratic senators have vowed to question nominee Gina Haspel, currently the spy agency’s acting director, about her role in the use of harsh interrogation methods during former President George W. Bush’s administration, as well as the destruction of videotapes documenting the questioning. “Having served in that tumultuous time, I can offer you my personal commitment, clearly and without reservation, that under my leadership CIA will not restart such a detention and interrogation program,” Haspel said in excerpts of her testimony released ahead of the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. Public questioning of Haspel on issues such as the effectiveness of the interrogations, CIA drone strikes and agency “renditions” of suspected militants to third countries may be limited because the operations remain classified. Haspel needs 51 votes to be confirmed as the first woman director of the CIA in the 100-seat Senate, where Trump’s fellow Republicans hold a 51-49 majority. The agency’s former deputy director, she would succeed Mike Pompeo, a Republican former congressman confirmed last month as secretary of state. Haspel already has the strong support of many Republicans. As he opened the hearing, the panel’s Republican chairman, Richard Burr, praised Haspel.

AT&T confirmed on Tuesday evening that it paid President Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen in 2017 for “insights into understanding the new administration.” The payments were revealed in a document published by Stormy Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti Tuesday afternoon. Avenatti alleged that Essential Consultants, a shell company set up by Cohen before the election to pay Daniels, was paid by several corporations, including AT&T. At the time, AT&T was seeking government approval for its acquisition of Time Warner, CNN’s parent company. A document released by Avenatti stated that “Essential received $200,000 in four separate payments of $50,000 in late 2017 and early 2018 from AT&T.” AT&T disputed this timeline. “Essential Consulting was one of several firms we engaged in early 2017 to provide insights into understanding the new administration,” AT&T said Tuesday evening. “They did no legal or lobbying work for us, and the contract ended in December 2017.” See the full statement: http://www.vondanews.com/att-confirms-it-paid-trump-lawyer-michael-cohens-company/

The stock hit an all-time high Monday, and the company moved closer to a milestone — the first $1 trillion market value. Apple stock surged on Friday, when Buffett revealed on the eve of the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meeting that Berkshire had acquired 75 million more shares. The Oracle of Omaha’s company owns more than 240 million shares of Apple, about a 5% stake. Shares of Apple rose nearly 2% more on Monday. The company is now worth more than $940 billion. The company wowed Wall Street with better than expected profits on May 1, even as it reported that iPhone sales have slowed in the United States. Sales in China and Japan grew dramatically. Apple also showered investors with plans for a huge stock buyback program, which should boost earnings per share, and a dividend increase. Apple’s stock is up 13% in May. Buffett gushed about the buybacks at the Berkshire meeting, telling investors that share repurchases were a sensible use of Apple’s ginormous pile of cash. Tweet The price of bitcoin took a significant reduction after Warren Buffet again showed his criticism for the cryptocurrency. He even compared it to a Rat poison. Bitcoin had been closing in on $10,000, but it fell nearly 6% Sunday and was down another 2% Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, has been a bitcoin bear for years. He has often compared the cryptocurrency to gold, saying that both assets are strictly speculative and don’t produce earnings and dividends like stocks do. Before the Berkshire annual meeting on Saturday, Buffett told CNBC that bitcoin was “probably rat poison squared.” During the meeting itself, Buffett joked that “if you had bought gold at the time of Christ and you figure the compound rate on it, it’s a couple tenths of a percent.” What Buffett was saying about bitcoin was that you can buy it, but it will never produce anything of value. He also responded to a question from the audience about bitcoin by saying that it and other crytpocurrencies “will come to bad endings.” Berkshire vice chairman and longtime Buffett confidant Charlie Munger was even more blunt. “I like cryptocurrencies a lot less than you do,” Munger said to Buffett. “To me, it’s just dementia. It’s like somebody else is trading turds and you decide you can’t be left out.” Source: http://www.vondanews.com/warren-buffett-refers-bitcoin-as-rat-poison/

Wildlife officials in Uganda are still hunting for a leopard which snatched and ate the three-year-old son of a ranger at the popular Queen Elizabeth National Park on Friday night, AFP news agency reports. Elisha Nabugyere had followed his nanny outdoors at the unfenced staff quarters of a safari lodge in the park, when the leopard grabbed him. “The maid was not aware the child followed her. She heard the kid scream for help. She intervened but it was too late. The leopard had vanished with it in the bush and a search was mounted until we got the skull the next day,” Uganda Wildlife Authority spokesman Bashir Hangi said. “The hunt is on with the intention of capturing the leopard and removing it from the wild because once it has eaten human flesh, the temptations are high to eat another human being, it becomes dangerous,” he added. http://www.vondanews.com/leopard-eats-child-in-uganda/
