Politics › Re: Tinubu's One Month In Office... by IVORY2009(m): 11:35am On Jun 26, 2023 |
Grayoso: In fairness, you did not rate Tinubu low but the poster you responded to has a point too. Many are rushing to condemn everything Tinubu has done even when the man has only been in power for a month.
For discerning observers, what is subtly implied, but not screamed, is important. Listen to our revered leaders today , from Okonjo Iweala all the way to IBB, and they speak in regretful tone per how Nigeria is so toxically divided today to the extent they too are confused per how our nation has to be healed. Buhari and the North, that could not hold him to account, caused that. Rest assured the Yorubas, the progressive conscience of Nigeria since 1940, will never let Tinubu get away with similar.
Yet it is still tragic the monumental misrule of Nigeria that Buhari and his Northern supremacist caused falls on the shoulder of Tinubu to repair.
The pretentious Buhari, and his Northern supremacist cabal, kept fuel subsidy in place for 8 years, when the expectation is that it would be gone during their turn.
Once in power they showed their feral teeth and pro-North and anti-Nigerian ambition that blindsided the SW that passionately supported Buhari to be a reformer and hand over to others who can continue the progressive agenda enroute to making Nigeria great as befits her status as the biggest black nation on Earth.
Buhari and his crew cynically used the office of the President to cart the wealth of Nigeria to the North.
They then callously dumped the brouhaha of subsidy removal at the door of Tinubu, and a Southern Presidency, that starts after Buhari reign thinking they are condemning that Southern Presidency to failure after they had decimated Nigeria horrendously.
Yet the South, mainly because of Igbo bigotry and hatred, cannot have the sense to rally behind BAT for the progressive future of our generations unborn.
Credit to Tinubu that he has not hidden, complained or shied away from taking tough decisions. We should all get behind him and criticise him objectively.
Good and progressive Nigerians will not desert a President who has arrived at the worst and most divided time in our history yet is saying to the world "I will fix it" and "I will take the tough decisions to reform a Nigeria others rapaciously damaged". Good writeup |

Dude, you need to learn how to LEARN. Truly, you are ignorant of happenings as far as it concerns car import in Nigeria, esp over the last year. The pathetic part is rather than learn, you are just here arguing blindly about something you know next to nothing about. Classic cognitive dissonance on display.
If I have to respond to your sermon, there is nothing in the car industry, I should learn, but be that as it maybe I have the right to ask question when necessary, that is the reason for a forum like this.
1. For over a year now any car year/model pays comparable or higher custom duty than a 2014 car/model. Yes! You can pay as much as 1.5m to clear this car.
Even the blind knows about this, but it all depends on your clearing agents bargaining power, I know this because I just brought in a vehicle from Germany.
2. Even if you buy an accidented car for cheap (which aren't even cheap if you get off your keyboard and try buying one), shipping costs are same as clean title, trucking to the port costs same. These two alone will cost you nothing less than 2500usd in the best of circumstances presently. Multiply that by 750, how much e be?
Accidented cars are one of the cheapest in Germany, because they are off duty vehicles, you can go and confirm from here mobile.de, the only thing I might agree with you is the duty cost in Nigeria, and again it boils down on your clearing agents bargaining power.
[b]3. Now let's assume you buy a crappy accidented car for 1000usd , oya add all the costs up there to this 1k is and tell me the sum. After you get the sum, now add the costs of fixing the car here in Nigeria. Then tell me the grand total.
I will still insist that you guys here selling cars over shoot the profit, because we all know if you take an accidented car from the US to Ladipo mkt in Lagos to fix, you can not compare the price to when you fix it in the US or even Germany before you import it, less tell ourselves the truth.
I detest when never do wells just spew hate towards other people. The man is trying to make a living, and you with zero buying intention will just come on here to make a nuisance of yourself. Import your own car and see what it's like. The nerve!!
By the grace of God I am doing well, and I only came in here to make some enquiries on purchases, which I ended up finding out to be outrageous.
I jus read the news, and from July 1 due to the naira float the customs conversion rate is going to 700+ meaning clearing cost will almost double and someone wey no even wan buy dey argue price for another person advert. Dont worry una go still buy the same car with 5m plus abeg. Nonsense.
For this, we all know, the Tinubu's administration would want to race revenue from duties, so this is not a surprise. |

nairalanda1: Dang...a lot of people are suffering.
But the harsh truth is, at the end of the day, if the subsidy had not gone, if the government had kept subsides on petrol and power, well...
We would have been 'enjoying' and things would have been okay...until at the end of the day, in three years time, when the cost of subsidy is higher than our revenue, and we are borrowing money to make up the balance of subsidy payments, and borrowing for everything else...till IMF comes in and tells us that we can't pay for your addiction no more.
Then things would get really hard.
The way I see it, and I am not an APC fan, it is simple...we start taking hard decsions now, or we are forced to take harder decisions three years later, when IMF stops giving us loans.
One thing Nigerians need to wake up to is that the problem is not from who is in charge...although APC is a mess, it is the policy that those in charge , especially APC practice. We too dey rely on oil revenue...which cannot feed half our nation, talkless of one tenth. Meanwhile, looters and corrupt people come in and steal that tiny money
It is either we become more fiscally responsible, or we take more and more loans until we join Sri lanka and even Argentina at the bottom of the lake. And if you think you are suffering now...
God knows that if we removed subsidy in 2012, we won't be here by now. If we have to bring in politics into play, this subsidy of a thing would have been allowed to be removed during Good luck Jonathan time, but this same Interim president Tinubu sponsored people to protest against it, now today we are suffering. |

Nice2023: If you are living abroad and have some families here in Nigeria, pls don't hesitate to reach out to your brothers, sisters, uncles and aunties here in Nigeria.
The situation on ground is so bad that u see people groaning and talking to themselves, well kitted men and women turned cunny beggars just to meet up with daily activities.
Most families that I know have dump their cars especially here in Abuja. When u move around the city,u will see the situation on ground.
The subsidy removal has affected everything including the way of life of many people here in Nigeria. In my office today, many guys now come to office few times in a week just to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal.
Now that the electricity tariff is about to go up...I wonder how people would cope going forward.
And for those who feel everything is normal, just wait it will soon go round,no one would be spared. Its everywhere, even abroad is not easy |

chukel: I wasn't wrong when I said you know little or nothing. Accident or not, it's still the same duty. There was no place I mentioned non accident cars. Try and import a car even if it's accidented from U.S. Then come back and tell us your experience. Lol 😂 but accidented cars are meant to be very very cheap, like in Germany go to mobile.de they are sold at give away prize, that is what you people import down to Nigeria from the US and take it to Ladipo and fix it and put the price at 8 million that it's because of the high duty, I know, it's still same cost, but the prices sometimes are too much. |

chukel: did I mention euro there? I stated dollars. That should have told you I was referring to the United States. I believe you know little to nothing about clearing cost else you would know that relatively newer cars have cheaper duties. A 2004 matrix will a slightly higher duty than a 2013 or 2014 now cos of over age. You are very funny, most of the cars that are imported from the united States are accidented cars, and the vim are flused out, and repairs are done when the arrive Nigeria, and the sellers would claim the cost of clearing was high, with high selling cost, go to mobile.de and see German branded cars, I know the newer the year of manufacture, the lesser the amount for clearing, na today I dey clear cars |
