Please to the men, for those of you that came in with their personal hair clippers from naija, how did you guys get to use it here cause the voltage here seems to be too low to power my clipper? Thanks
We got this from naija while planning our trip last year and has so far proved very useful. It was a tip from someone here, maybe Einsteino, can't remember. Hubby uses it with his naija bought clipper for all of us, lol. I've had to go on low cut too with the boys; my wigs have come in handy though. It's called a step down/ step up transformer and has really come in handy as I hear grooming can be quite pricey. However, this may be more useful for those yet to land; since you're here already you'd have to go with ednut's suggestion and probably get a new clipper.

I live in the northwest area as well and didnt get to do any insurance on my tenancy. But I will like to know what your apartment specification are. But normally they only ask you for a month worth of your rent for keeps to tie the lease down and then when you are ready to leave the house the money gets returned if there was no damage to the house..send me a message let's meet up and see
Thanks to all who gave answers to my queries. We got a better quote of 237 today, however had to pay the complete annual fee. @Ronnie1984, would absolutely love to meet up, would send you a pm.

The registry I did my test accepted void cheque. If his registry doesn’t then he should try another one.
Thank you very much. As per the weather in Alberta in your last post, honestly without the thermals and good jackets we bought at Yaba, I just wonder. Probably we would have had to buy some here at astonishing prices . We, however got some woolen gloves at dollarama at 2.50, which is cheap. Dollarama is your best bet for small stuff like that for folks coming soon, including small house hold stuff like brush, shower hanger, mop , toilet brush, etc. I'm just grateful for supportive friends here, driving us around to do stuff we need to get sorted. It's really not an easy thing to do. For those landing soon, if you have the option of landing in a place with some kind of support, please do. I can't believe, we almost wanted to go solo. Not that it would have been impossible to get around, but it certainly would be straining with a kid in tow.

Thanks so much sis, will check them up asap. 4k at on once? U manage see better car for Kijiji at a good price that you'll pay cash for, you'll still pay that at once for insurance? Since we came ehn, na spending unto spending. It is well . Here is peaceful sha, just do your thing and do any work legally to keep you together. I am with Zipsure Insurance and I pay $15.94/month for a 2 bedroom apartment debited 1st of every month.
For proof of address with the registry, you can use any of the following - a void cheque, hardcopy of your credit card statement mailed to you by your bank in this case RBC, hardcopy of your phone bill mailed to you by your phone service provider - Public Mobile or the mail that was sent to you containing your Alberta Health Card(this must still be intact and within 3months of when it was sent to you)

Send a PM with your number and let's see if you can be added to the WhatsApp group

Thank you so much for this information. Will send my number to you, super grateful.

Good day all, please people in Edmonton should help me with the 'normal' range for tenancy/apartment insurance as our property manager has requested for it. Apartment is in the northwest area. Rbc insurance saying 308cad/annum without the option of paying per monthly for the policy chosen. Abeg what's the norm for newcomers and /or alternatives. Make person no go enter one chance abeg, I thought this bill was supposed to be paid monthly. Also, hubby went for knowledge test today and was told to bring utility bill showing proof of address. We don't have that yet as we have been staying with our family friends. Opened accounts with Rbc and phone lines with public . What other document can be used for the purpose of the knowledge test ? Thank you.pls forgive my typos. Don't want to make mistakes. Please I beg to be added to the Edmonton watsap group.

I think most people are not considering the reality on ground in Nigeria.
There's a major disconnect here.
I think they are still looking at their nostalgic days in secondary school.

If you go to a sport betting center in Nigeria, you will see a lot of secondary school students.

If you're opportuned to witness secondary school party, you will be amazed at the level of chemistry these people are practicing... Mixing all sorts of concoction and drugs.

We have thrown away our values and imbibed the negative values from the West.

I honestly don't think schooling in Nigeria of today, a child will gain anything extra compared to schooling in Canada
Make I chook mouth for this matter as I was one of those who was also considering this sending back thing. Just yesterday, here in a place somewhere in the south west of Naija, around mid day, a group of secondary school students stormed into my place of work. My work place is directly opposite the school. They were brought in by a teacher. One of them was bleeding from a hand injury. His white shirt uniform had turned red. Asked what happened, teacher said they were fighting. After staff members removed the band used to tie the injury, there were 3- 4 different deep cuts. All looking like screwdriver, knife or whatever it is they used. Told them to disperse as they had gathered like a beehive. Immediately, someone whispered to me to come in, that I should be careful the way I tell those gathered to leave as they were all cultists. Choi! to say I was shocked. Well, I just observed them while a nurse worked to address treatment. Was I more shocked? I couldn't believe the things I heard, saw, with some wearing black hats. Then it all made sense. These kids on the average would be no more than 14-15 years. And this is a good school by some standards. The value system we could still hold some claim to in our schools, is NO more. There's no point in sending anybody back.

Hello, hope this is not absurd but I was wondering if I could get an estimate of how much you spent altogether migrating from Naija to Canada as a Pharmacist. And also if there's any special cgpa requirement
Spent about 950 for 2 ecas from pebc.
No need for cgpa just your bpharm and other requirements as seen on page 1.
Ignorantly paid for our first ielts from a company for 135k each angry with the help of this forum paid the 75k for 2nd ielts.
IOM fees for FAM 0f 3, 41k.*3.
PCC 9k for 2
Ppr/application fees for 3, 650k from gtb.
Start saving for your exams and study materials. God's grace to us all.

Please we need guidance on how to go about it, thank you.
Go to their website, choose date and make your booking. A reference code is sent to your email which is valid for 24 hrs. Within the time you can use the GTb mobile app ticketing service to pay. You will have to include your itinerary, ref code and fee in your payment details. A receipt is sent to you which you may send to their Lagos or Abj email address depending on where you're departing from,( Not sure if this is necessary anyway).Either way, after your payment, your e-ticket is sent to your email.

Congratulations to you and FAM. Pls can you kindly give details of cargo company used? I thought 20kg food was the new maximum to YEG as per cargo? Thanks

I apologize that this is a late PPR post. I have been somewhat overwhelmed by so much, but then I am reminded that the blessings of God maketh rich and addeth no sorrow. Also, this thread has been a blessing to me, this is my own small way of adding to the wealth of information here. So here goes my ppr gist.

Firstly, I would like to thank God almighty, the giver of all good gifts for this great opportunity He has granted my family at this time. Also, to this wonderful community of selfless individuals helping each other out, I say a big THANK YOU.God bless you.

Ielts:
Writing templates on this platform proved very helpful. Just a little bit of mix using synonyms rather than repeating words can make a lot of difference. Practiced my strategy for writing both tasks in simulated exam situations using the sample ielts booklets.

ECA
This one was a journey on its own. After the Nasu strike we proceeded on Feb 2018, with all documents reaching Canada by April using PEBC as evaluating body for both hubby and I.
This was after much research, considering that this evaluation would cost us about 950k and hubby has msc clinical Rx and I, a pharmD.

Pharmacists in this house, points to note;
WES will not give you professional points for your BPharm. However, If you have msc pharmacy or a pharmD, wes will evaluate as a masters and hence you still get the same professional points. That said, if you intend to practice pharmacy in Canada, only PEBC can evaluate your degree, which is the first step towards licensure. If you're thinking of a career switch in Canada, and your NOC is NOT under community or hospital pharmacy, ie your noc may be Lecturer , then by all means use wes, of course with an msc. It saves you time and money and you still get masters/ professional point for your CRS.
Using a Nigerian address also cost us about 3weeks as documents was sent Aug via Canada post ,but somehow reached us Sep 25.(World Pharmacy day). I took this as a sign. Smile.

Work Reference:
1 year Internship at Government hospital.
2 years Self employment with job title as Superintendent Pharmacist in a community rx, owned by hubby and I.

I got reference letter from the Hod pharmacy in CIC format on hospital letterhead, signed and stamped with department stamp. I included pcn letter of experience, payslip of 4 months.
I got jittery after submission seeing some posts here, concerning using the hod and not mgt as I knew the bottleneck involved and still wouldn't get a CIC format reference from them. So after submission, I applied for the mgt refence letter. Once it arrived, I planned on raising a CSE to add it, I never did.

For the second job, I tried to see how I could remove the self employment and use nysc and some other experience I had, but those ones were not too straight eg redeployment during Nysc, cash payments( didn't know about cash certificate). So I stuck with self employment, being the most recent. The first task was actually deciding whether to choose self-employed or employee. CAC documents bear my maiden name as hubby and I registered the company when we were still fiance/fiancee. Also, hubby is chairman/ CEO on these documents ,albeit has another job.
On the other hand, I receive a small salary as superintendent and another income from being Co- owner. After much thoughts, we decided to go with self employment instead of having hubby write me a reference letter. Also, considering my name is mentioned in company registration documents it seemed the correct thing to do.
The next thought was documents to submit, I have to specially thank Moniker @ LadyAy. I don't know her nor did i contact her, but in the course of my research after I stumbled on nairaland, I came across her well detailed posts in thread 3 or 4. So everything I included in this placeholder was a prototype of hers with a few additions.
LOE explaining my situation, writing in detailed but concise sentences , including a little bit of the retail nature of the job.( just so they didn't expect large deposits from customers in bank statement).
Personal licence and pharmacy licence for the 2 years claimed. Personal income tax receipts for me and employee. Pharmacy revenue receipts. Insurance policy for 2 years. Two letters from customers and one from a lab I refer my clients to. Corporate bank reference showing hubby and I as signatories, date it was opened , amount. Letter of non- indebtedness, statement of last 6 months. Dated and current Invoices from company reps and our own receipts.(one was bearing the name of a customer that wrote reference), lastly was a picture of a haematinic and vit c syrup in our branded nylon.smile.

Change of Name:
This was the most challenging part for me. And the part I prayed the most about.
I will try to use examples that fit, so you all understand the challenge I single handedly put us in because I never thought there were issues with it as no employer ever raised one. Although I thought of a solution as an undergraduate, the paper work seemed much and I never went through with it. During the PEBC evaluation, I was requested to send additional documents. Probably, that added to the time spent on the evaluation.
My name- Esther Amarachi Nduka
Birth certificate- Esther Amachi Nduka
Waec- Nduka Amarachi Esther
Degree- Amara Esther Nduka
Started Job- Esther Amara Nduka
Got married, changed and reconciled names legally- Esther Amarachi Williams

What a mess. what did I do?
LOE explaining my situation, that its a tribal thing. it was left to me to produce sufficient documents that this was all me. I had them all. I mean, my parents still keep nursery one results. They taught me to keep papers. With so many dated documents to place in this placeholder, It had to be prudent and significant. Documents included;
Birth certificate, Waec certificate, university eligibility/clearance slip, newspaper publication , change of name, one and same person affidavit, faculty association certicate.
It helped that for some of these documents my DOB was present as well as a younger picture of me. A big thanks to the poster that put the one and same person sample on this thread. I got that sample from relentlessly searching this forum when we just started this journey. At that time, there was no page 1 link.
So new applicants, whatever your queries, good people have taken out time to link these things, which makes things a lot easier for you. Please use them and remember to still ask when in doubt.
So that was that there. I prayed and faithlessly hoped for an ADR in this regard as I still had a heap of documents to submit if asked.I was humbled by God's faithfulness.

POST AOR , I honestly hardly checked the profile. Twice during Biometrics, and once on each occasion before raising CSE and ordering gcms.
I am a natural worrier, so I had to keep myself sane. I prayed everyday for this application. When I was not busy with family duties or work, I reread americanah and half a yellow sun, watched TV series ; Killing eve, Jane the virgin, game of thrones, Wentworth, oitnb, the bold type, money heist. Call me chief downloader( will miss this there).
Kept me busy when I was not busy.smile

While we await our COPR, I cannot but thank God for His loving mercies while still keeping in mind that the task ahead is no walk in the park. God is taking us to our destination as we begin to prepare for our licensure. For regulated professionals, the work for us is real, but carry along your strategic plans, hardwork, tenacity, courage and believe, with your Trust in God. This is our resolution. We are so hopeful for the future in that beautiful country.

Friends, in whatever stage of this journey you are, I pray that your dreams come through, speedily. God bless us all.
Selah.

Congratulations to all the new pprs. Please urgent request: Is it necessary to include the imm008 generic form and additional family form in your envelope while submitting passports to vfs? (even when there has been no addition to your family) .There are conflicting responses here so I'm begging for responses from those who have submitted recently, as well as our seniors. Thank you all.
Edit- just saw a link on page 1 by Joo2018.Thanks. Obviously, these forms do not need to be filled, if there has been no change in family composition. I hope I'm right?

Pls someone should assist with this question. Can I claim points for work experience(self employed) even when d company has not been registered and no corporate account? Pls, your response will help in making decisions. I have other evidences to show d company has been in existence before it was registered.

It is important the company is registered because one of the documents you'll have to submit is the CAC certificate. Also, a corporate account is highly necessary as you will have to show evidence of cash flow. However, since you have other forms of evidence to show the business has long existed, you could include them and ensure to write an explanation.

Please after my Pebc evaluation ,i was to get an ECA report by pebc. My question is :

- Is Pebc going to give me the report and send my self or I will download it and send myself.

-Secondly, there is a place for witness signature, who signs, can anybody sign.

Please HELP!!!
-Pebc sends your ECA report along with receipt of your payment via normal post. There's no soft copy to be downloaded. If using a Nigerian address, ensure it is valid and easily accessible.Your ECA is sent via Canada post to our local post here.

Good evening house, please I'm currently processing my ECA using PEBC, and I was asked to send my birth certificate, because of the difference in names, which I accounted for by attaching some certified documents earlier(marriage certificate, newspaper publication, one and same person affidavit). Do I send the birth certificate from LG or NPC? Thanks

Hi, I had the same issue with PEBC.I sent the LG birth
certificate. That's the only birth certificate I have and have always used, and that's what I submitted. Also, I felt the NPC would be new and wasn't sure it would be accepted. The reason for the extra document request is to verify that you used the said name at some point. The LG was accepted. All the best.
