https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo6aW_J5Z1g Human Rights Activist, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), on Sunday said the burning of a vessel loaded with stolen crude oil by the military in the Niger Delta last week was an attempt to cover up a crime. The vessel in question was reportedly arrested by a newly-contracted private pipeline surveillance team, Tantita Security Services led by a former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo. But the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor had said that the swift destruction of the oil bunkering vessel by the criminal suspects was in line with the rules of engagement. “There are various approaches, various solutions to a problem and at any time based on certain factors, certain considerations available to those that are at the frontline, actions are taken based on the directive which are contained in the rules of engagement,” he had contended. But the senior lawyer stated that it was a trite law that only the Federal High Court was empowered to order the interim or final forfeiture of any vessel that was used for conveying stolen crude oil. According to him, the burning of the vessel was a deliberate attempt to cover up the involvement of military personnel in the serious crime of oil theft as there was no provision in the rules of engagement that authorises military personnel or security operatives to set fire to or destroy vessels loaded with stolen crude. “Indeed, the Chief of Defence Staff is not unaware that under the service law, the burning of a ship or vessel by a military personnel is a serious offence which attracts life imprisonment without an option of fine,” he stated. Quoting section 111 of the Armed Forces Act, he argued that a person subject to service law under the Act who wilfully or maliciously sets fire to a public building, dwelling house, an office or any structure whatsoever or any vessel, ship, aircraft, railway track or wagon, or vehicle is guilty of arson and liable, on conviction by a court-martial, to imprisonment for life. “In view of the gravity of the offence that is being covered up by the military oligarchy, General Irabor ought to resign his appointment to prevent the sabotage of the ongoing operations designed to expose the perpetrators of oil theft in the Niger Delta region. “If the General decides not to call it quits, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari should not hesitate to fire him. After all, by authorising the engagement of non-state actors to carry out the constitutional duties of the armed forces, the president has lost confidence in the leadership of the armed forces. “Furthermore, the president should order the Chief of Army Staff to ensure the immediate arrest of the military personnel who set the vessel on fire with a view to charging them with arson and allied offences before a court martial,” he stated. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0ldUzpZT5I Dr. Deji Adeleke, the founder of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State and an elder brother to the Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Sunday, warned that he would lead opposition against his younger brother if his government derailed. The brother, who spoke at the eighth convocation ceremony of the University held on the campus of the institution, also said apart from the challenge of good leadership that was affecting the country, the nation was also not having the best followership. Adeleke, who decried the exchange of votes for monetary gain, said he told his brother and some Peoples Democratic Party governors, that since the governor-elect would not be refunding money to any godfather after the election, he should assemble a good team that would work and improve the living conditions of the people. He said, “I told the governor-elect (Senator Ademola Adeleke) and his colleagues. I said you are lucky because you don’t have any godfather to refund any money to, so, whatever people contributed to your election is a sacrifice for a better Nigeria, for a better state. “So, you and your colleagues are not under any pressure. The only thing you need to do out there is to go and serve the people. And I threatened them that I would be the first to call a press conference if I see things going wrong with his government. “I will be the first to alert the world that your governor is derailing and I have told him and his team not to allow anyone that is not ready to serve; anyone that his focus is to come and look for money, to steal from the poor people, into the team.” According to him, followership that cannot hold government accountable portended danger for the future, noting that his brother would have lost the July 16 poll after 45 members of the National Youth Service Corps did not show up at their designated polling units. “Meanwhile, people were waiting to vote but materials, result sheets and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machine were taken to somewhere else, until a director started calling to make sure that those people reported to where they were supposed to, otherwise my brother wouldn’t have been the governor-elect today. “And those who allowed themselves to be used were the NYSC; young people. It’s not commissioners in the Independent National Electoral Commission. People blame INEC, forgetting that the young ones that have been entrusted with this responsibility are the ones wrecking their own future,” Adeleke concluded. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOpO0SMygJE Graphic Video Butchered body of a lady found in kubwa. Ladies please be careful. There is tension in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja as residents on Monday found the butchered body of a yet-to-be-identified lady by a river in PW area, near Deeper Life Church. It was believed to have been dumped there by suspected ritualists The incident attracted a large crowd as residents thronged the location to catch a glimpse of the butchered and decapitated body of the lady. When Correct Info visited the scene, a beheaded corpse of a naked woman packed inside two bags was seen beside the river. The body parts were cut into pieces with blood stains on the bags. An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the corpse was discovered early Monday morning following the stench coming from the spot. He said the body might have been dumped by suspected ritualists in the night. He said, "We saw the body this morning because of the odour that was coming from the river and when people moved closer, they found two bags with the body parts cut into pieces. We don't know who dumped the body there but this looks like a ritual killing. “One of the ritualists may have dumped her here in the night and zoomed off." At the time of filing this report, some policemen from Kubwa Divisional Police station were sighted at the scene taking photographs of the corpse while the crowd lamented the tragedy. Efforts to reach the FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh for a reaction were not successful. Meanwhile, the river which is located in the centre of Kubwa where the incident occurred, is being used as a refuse dump for trash movers, popularly known as Bolar, thereby making it difficult for the residents to identify the perpetrators. |
The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, said he will win the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary if the process is credible. Mr Bello told journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja that he was confident of his chances during the primary election. The Kogi State Governor was absent from the APC governors’ meeting with the president where they reiterated their support for zoning the party’s presidential ticket to the south. The governor of Kogi State chose to excuse himself from meeting with Mr President because he believes that he does not agree with our position,” the Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, said at a press briefing on Monday. With the exception of Mr Bello who is a presidential aspirant in the race, 13 other governors from the northern region were in support of this resolution. Sending a strong message to the party leadership, the Kogi governor after his meeting with the president said there will be trouble if his name is omitted from the ballot as delegates arrive to cast their votes. “No reason for me to be excluded from the ballot. If they do so then that is a recipe for bigger trouble for the party. However, I don’t think it’s the decision of the party. It is a decision of a few elites who may decide to use their whatever position to suppress the so-called minority. But I want to prove that in this country, I am not in the minority. We have the majority. I belong to the younger generation. “I belong to the generation of Nigerians that are oppressed and they are saying the most have their voice. And I strongly believe that getting into that arena today, I will win overwhelmingly if the process and the normal regulations are followed,” he said https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKLky4egZB0 |
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has revealed how he almost scuttled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary as he called on his supporters to remain calm. The governor said this on Monday at a reception in his honour at the Government House in Port Harcourt following his return from the party’s presidential primary in Abuja. Wike said he was tempted to obstruct the process when an aspirant who had spoken previously was allowed to return to the podium to pronounce his withdrawal, in contravention to the guidelines of the election. “I have never seen how people can violate procedures and guidelines. Somebody has spoken, it is at that point he was speaking that he would have said I am withdrawing. You don’t call him back,” Wike said. “I just said, ‘Look, this our party must not be destroyed.'” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnB7wAT1UgM
