Romance › Bride Abandons Wedding For Nnpc Job Test (photos) by iz2much(op): 8:52am On Apr 02, 2011
Some people hate, some people like me, that is life everybody cannot like you. While I am at that check this out. This girl was just about to take the vows at the church when she was called by NNPC for a job test. She followed her instinct and abandons the wedding to go take the NNPC job test.

Ok, some people are critizing the chic that she showed disrespect to her husband (well to be) and the husbands family for that singular act.

I think the girl needs a good job, and a job in NNPC is no ordinary job, she took the best decision

What do you guys think? RIGHT OR WRONGhuh

Travel › Uk To Cut Down Number Of Student Visa Issued To Nigerians by iz2much(op): 6:42pm On Mar 27, 2011
The number of non-European Union students coming into the United Kingdom for studies is to be cut by 25 per cent, a government minister has said.
Europe correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria reports that British Home Secretary Theresa May, revealed the plan in a statement to the parliament on Wednesday in London.

The statement said there would also be tougher English Language competence requirements, restrictions on dependants, curbs on post study work and new vetting for colleges.

"Only the brightest and best should come to the UK.

"The package will stop bogus students, studying meaningless courses at fake colleges.

"It will protect our world-class institutions; stop the abuse that became all too common under Labour and it will restore some sanity to our student visa system,'' it added.

According to the statement students studying in private institutions would be barred from working during term-time and only foreign students with a job offer would be able to stay in the UK after graduation.

The statement said those already in the UK who had permission to stay because they applied to the colleges, would also be affected by the new policy.

Romance › Super Falcon Players (nigerian Female Team) Are Lesbians" - Head Coach by iz2much(op): 7:48pm On Mar 20, 2011
The Super Falcons' Coach Eucharia Uche, has made a statement saying that there are lesbians in the country's female national team.

The statement which was made at the 'First Seminar on Women Football in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects' says that: “It's a worrisome experience that some of our players indulge in lesbianism. Some of them go as far as renting rooms in hotels around the team's campsite where they go to satisfy their sin assembly.

She continued by saying “A good number of them even bring their male friends into the camp. It's a serious development that has been detrimental to the team's growth and performance.”

Meanwhile, statements from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)'s Chief Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, who few years ago had echoed the ravaging scourge of 'women sleeping with their fellow women as love birds', could have laid to rest the veracity of the existence of lesbians among Falcons.

“We all know of these vices because lesbianism has become a thing of common knowledge that the female footballers no more hide it among themselves. However, those who indulge in the nasty act had promised to stop it and the NFF is putting measures in place to ensure that they keep to their promises,” the media officer stated.

Romance › 22 Yrs Old Girl Commits Succide Because Parents Blocked Her Relationship by iz2much(op): 5:50pm On Mar 20, 2011
A 22-year old love struck girl has committed suicide. The deceased, identified as Olaitan, a native of Abeokuta, until her death, stayed with her parents at Alfa Rasheed Street, Araromi Oke-Oja, Ifo, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. She killed herself because her parents blocked her romance with her boyfriend.
The late Olaitan.

P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that the deceased and her boyfriend, Dare Abiodun, 24, had been dating for seven years and that in 2007 they lost contact and later met again four months ago.
When the parents of the deceased saw their daughter with Abiodun, she was warned not to harbour any thought of marrying him. The reply she gave her parents was that she won’t marry any other man except Abiodun.
On Tuesday this week her elder brothers beat her up for hobnobbing with Abiodun and on Wednesday she tied a rope to a ceiling fan and committed suicide right in her father’s house.

According to Abiodun, “we knew each other for seven years and when she left for Lagos to learn how to sell provisions, we lost contact and about four months ago I was just passing-by her father’s house and she called me and we started our relationship all over again.
“I then told her that I have a wife who is now pregnant but she said that doesn’t mean anything and that she still wanted to marry me.
“When she came to me on Monday around 8.00 p.m. she told me of how her brothers were always beating her for insisting that I should marry her. I then said sorry to her because I saw bruises all over her body.
“At exactly 10.00 a.m on Wednesday I was at my master’s place at Ifo where I work as a bricklayer when she came to meet me and she said I should give her the last kiss, that she loves me. I asked her if we can’t marry again. She declined to reply and left, saying she would want to go home to have her bath.
“On that same Wednesday in the afternoon my friends called me on my phone and asked me not to come home because my girlfriend had committed suicide. They said her family members came to where I live and threatened to kill me and they also damaged all my property. As at that time my pregnant wife was still sleeping and she managed to escape. I also learnt that her father brought charms (juju).
“I did not kill their daughter. Why are they doing that to me?”
P.M.NEWS further gathered that she committed suicide while her father had gone to the farm and her mother was downstairs. She had earlier drank acid from battery and when it was not effective she hanged herself.
Her parents buried her on the night of Wednesday without reporting the incident at the Ifo Police Station, Ogun State.

Travel › Visa Struggle : The Desperation To Travel Out Of Nigeria - Is It Really Worth It by iz2much(op): 3:23am On Mar 13, 2011
The desperation on the part of many Nigerians to travel out of the country is believed to have reached an alarming level in recent times.

And indeed Vanguard Metro’s visit to some embassies in Lagos revealed scenes of absurdity involving many Nigerians, both young and old, desperate to flee their country at the slightest opportunity.

At all the embassies visited there was almost always a crowd of visa seekers jostling and fighting desperately under the sun or rain to be attended to. To them, the visa they seek is as important as the Holy Grail, which explains why they are prepared to sacrifice anything, including their dignity, comfort and personal safety in their quest for it.

This development only goes to confirm that all the campaigns and other efforts by government and its relevant agencies to discourage Nigerians from travelling out of the country on flimsy grounds have so far come to nought.

What Vanguard Metro saw in one of the African embassies located at Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island was astonishing and unbelievable. It was a Thursday and it was raining heavily when Vanguard Metro got there at about 5.45am. Yet the number of visa seekers was over 300 and the applicants had been divided into two queues with the first one being for first time travellers, work and study permit applicants while the other queue was for corporate clients, frequent travellers, transit and medical visa.

“How did these people get here this early?” queried a fellow who was a first time visitor to the place. Another fellow who identified himself as Tope had responded thus: “For anybody to be among the first 20 on these lines, the person must have been on the queue by 4.00am”.

This was a shocking revelation which was confirmed by another visa seeker by name Ajayi. According to him: “I have been trying my luck for the past one week, only to be getting here by 6.00 am and meeting many people. I then requested for a friend to bring me down here in his car yesterday and we slept in the car to make our being on the line by 4.10 am this morning possible”.

Also easily noticeable were the ubiquitous touts as they went about rendering one service or the other and collecting money from desperate applicants. The Police were not left out as officers and men from the Maroko and Bar Beach Police Stations used the opportunity to make brisk business for themselves as they were seen arresting and searching people and ‘penalising’ those “with questions to answer”.

Politics › Please Forgive Me, Daniel Begs Obasanjo by iz2much(op): 11:53am On Mar 12, 2011
Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State on Friday begged former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the lingering rift between the two.

The rift between Obasanjo and Daniel had polarised the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun with a group loyal to Obasanjo and the other loyal to Daniel.

The situation degenerated into two primaries that were conducted by the party in the state.

While a former military governor of Oyo State, Chief Adetunji Olurin, emerged as the governorship candidate in Obasanjo’s faction, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka emerged in Daniel’s faction.

The apology by Daniel followed the intervention by a legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola, who led others at a meeting, held at the Abeokuta residence of the former president.

The meeting, which started at about 2 pm, lasted till 5.45 pm. Daniel, while responding to journalists’ questions on whether he apologised to Obasanjo, said, “I apologised to Baba Obasanjo and I will continue to apologise.

“Let me say this to you, I am a true Yorubaman and in Yorubaland, it doesn’t matter who is right or wrong, it is the younger person that will beg the older person. I have begged Baba and I will continue to beg Baba.

“In all things, we must give thanks to God. I think what has happened here today is the manifestation of the work of God. I want to seize this opportunity to thank all the elders and also thank Baba (Obasanjo) for the opportunity of this meeting.”

The governor, while responding to some of his members, who defected from the PDP to the Peoples Party of Nigeria, said the process of reconciliation had just begun with the settlement.

He described the people who left the PDP as those who were aggrieved, adding that they would soon be reconciled with the party.

He said, “I have no doubt in my mind that we can work things out and I think what we have started today is a manifestation of better things to come.

“As you have always been aware, a large number of our supporters fell disenchanted, but I think if you go to war, we have to sit down and find a peaceful solution and that is what we have started today.

“I have no doubt in my mind that we will talk to ourselves to ensure that the PDP remains strong and united. And you know there was never a time that I left the party. The people who left felt aggrieved and we have started the process of reconciliation.”

When asked who the governorship candidate of the party in the state is, Daniel said, “Of course, Olurin is the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.”

Obasanjo told journalists that he had forgiven Daniel, saying, “You know one thing, if you are a true Christian, your prayer will be, ‘Our father, who hath in heaven, hallowed be thy name, forgive us our sins as we forgive those who offend us…’”

As Obasanjo tried to end the recitation of the prayer, Daniel jokingly interjected, saying, “You should add: Deliver us from evil.” Obasanjo added, “As I pray God to forgive me my sins, and I forgive people who sin against me, and particularly those who ask for forgiveness, and then I ask God that he should deliver me from evil, and deliver those who sinned against me.”

Babalola said, “The various frictions within the PDP today have been finally solved. Daniel will be at the airport tomorrow to receive the President. I am happy that all the problems have been amicably resolved.”

Others who attended the meeting were the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Omolade Jacob; a business mogul, Chief Adebutu Kessington; and former chairman of Police Trust Fund, Chief Kenny Martins.

Politics › Imam Arrested For Removing Jonathan's Poster by iz2much(op): 2:14am On Mar 05, 2011
Sokoto – Sokoto State Police Command has arrested the Chief Imam of the Farfaru Juma’at Mosque, Sokoto, Sheikh Abubakar Jibrin, for allegedly defacing the posters of the PDP presidential candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Spokesperson of the Police Command, ASP Al-Mustapha Sani, disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto Tuesday.
According to him, the Chief Imam was arrested at a roundabout while he was using black paint to deface President Jonathan’s posters by policemen on patrol.

“The renowned Islamic cleric was arrested by our men on patrol using black paint to deface the posters of President Goodluck Jonathan and Alhaji Namadi Sambo at some roundabouts in Sokoto metropolis at around 5 pm on February, 28.

“He was arrested along with his two sons, his driver and a domestic aide. They have all been transferred to the Force CID, Abuja, today (Tuesday),” Sani said.

He advised the people of the state to continue to be law abiding, adding that “only the use of ballot papers to either vote in or vote out candidates were lawful.”

Family › Over 2000 Men Get Beaten Up By Their Wives In Ghana by iz2much(op): 2:02am On Mar 05, 2011
History is being made, as more men are coming out to report cases of abuse by their spouses.

Over 2,000 cases of abuse of men by their female partners were recorded last year, according to statistics on domestic violence released by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the police.

Public Relations Officer of DOVVSU, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Freeman Tettey, who disclosed this to the Times in Accra yesterday, said "the abuses against men included causing harm, physical assault and a few cases of the women abandoning their children in the care of the husbands."

ASP Tettey said the men were physically attacked by the women with objects such as sticks, cutlasses and hot pressing irons for reasons among which jealousy was dominant.

"Although many more men are now reporting assault cases to the unit, women are still by far the most victims of abuse. We recorded 2,017 abuse cases against men and 12,316 against women last year," ASP Tettey said.

In 2009, there were 2,568 reported cases of abuse against men as opposed to 14,428 against women.

He said most men did not retaliate in such attacks, and appealed to them to report to DOVVSU any kind of abuse against them.
