China executed two former vice-mayors from two booming eastern cities for taking millions of dollars in bribes, the Supreme Court and state media said on Tuesday. The execution of the former vice-mayors is taking place as China strives to show it is being tough on graft. Xu Maiyong, the former vice-mayor of Hangzhou, and Jiang Renjie, the former vice-mayor of Suzhou, were executed in the morning, the court said in a brief statement on its website. “Xu used his official power to interfere with project contracts and to help companies and people obtain land, promotions and tax breaks,” the official Xinhua news agency said. He received 145 million yuan in bribes and embezzled another 53.59 million yuan from a state-owned property development firm, it added. Jiang took bribes, including more than 108 million yuan in cash, from property developers, and was convicted of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power, Xinhua said. China’s ruling Communist Party has repeatedly vowed to stamp out official corruption, a key source of public discontent as the rapidly growing economy gives senior officials opportunities to use their power for private gain. China sacked Shanghai’s powerful Communist Party boss in 2007 and the Railways Minister earlier this year. Critics say the fight against graft is hampered by the lack of an independent judiciary, rather than one which answers firstly to the Party, and by officials not being held accountable to an electorate or by an independent media, which is also tightly controlled. I have been with this girl for over 10 years. Recently, she was ill and tested HIV positive. I did my blood test but fortunately, I was HIV negative. We have been having protected sex and she gets her treatment from a teaching hospital in Lagos. Currently, she said the treatment is vitamins-based because her case is not serious. Now, she is asking that we have un-protected sex and said HIV cannot be transmitted through MouthAction Culled from the PUNCH |
Boko haram, has issued a list of prominent Nigerians it might likely attack, Times of Nigeria reports. The hit list, which was said to have been obtained on Monday, was sent to the State Security Services in a recorded message format. Though, the source of the report could not be verified, the list had Vice-President Namadi Sambo topping it. Others on the list were Emir of Zazzau, HRH Shehu Idris; and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari. The Emir is targeted because, according to the sect, he connived with dubious people to cheat Islam. The sect’s spokesman, who did not introduce himself, in the recorded message, spoke in fluent Arabic and Hausa and declared that their mission was to fight social injustices perpetrated against muslims in Nigeria. The spokesman added that not only would the sect kill non-believers, but “also hypocritical muslims who connive to do harm to Islam and muslim.” Other names, which featured on the list, included that of Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, who allegedly promised President Goodluck Jonathan that regardless of how many lives would be lost, Jigawa State would go to Jonathan during the elections. Kano State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, and Niger State Governor, Babaginda Aliyu were also mentioned in the list. |

According to Bloomberg suspected Islamic militants attacked two banks and a police station at 6.00pm 8th July 2011, in Alkaleri a town in the Northern state of Bauchi. The gunmen were seen distributing money from the banks to local people saying they had come to help the poor ones. Looks like Boko Haram has turned Robin Hood and our government is in real trouble, because this means the militants will gain popular support and more followers. This is what happens when you steal everything in sight and allow millions of disaffected and dirt poor Almajiris to roam your streets with begging bowls everyday. |
I wish that party should have won in Kwara State |

I think what the woman did was wrong BUT for the sake of the 5 Babies i think little good can be done. Nigerians we all know what the woman kept saying na just format wey she dey throw. am sure she went for scan and she knew she was expecting more than 2 kids. The British are just been selfish. read alot what their citizen kept saying. 75% of them are heartless while 25% are saying nice things. £200,000 is nothing to be compared with £50 million spent on the royal wedding. £200,000 can be a little charity. Nigeria government Self no get shame, they cant just pay all this and forget about. am sure its the money the British are concerned about, not the Visa. We are all Nigerians, we all know say na format she dey throw give them 4 UK |

George Hotz was taken to court, and the 14 years old was just recruited by Microsoft. Microsoft is reported to be working with the 14-year-old Irish hacker who managed to stir up a little trouble with his Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 phishing scam alert. According to the managing director of Microsoft of Ireland, the company is helping the hacker “develop his talent for legitimate purposes.” http://www.smoothblog.co.uk/2011/05/29/14-year-hacker-recruited-microsoft-hotz-court/ |

Leaders of the Jama’atu Ahliss-Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram, have told Daily Trust in an interview that the dialogue being offered to them will not be possible under atmosphere of the threats of use of force by security agencies. Spokesman for the group Abu Zaid said, “A true believer will not allow himself to be attacked twice.” The interview was conducted by phone and email in Hausa language. A Daily Trust reporter who has been reporting the activities of the group gave the questions by phone to Abu Zaid, who has been speaking on behalf of the sect. The group has claimed responsibility for last week’s deadly bomb attack on the police headquarters in Abuja and persistent gun raids in Maiduguri, Borno State, prompting calls for dialogue between the government and its leaders. Responding to these calls, Abu Zaid said, “We have been signing agreement with them (government) but they have been reneging and now they want us to surrender our arms whereas they are terrorizing Islam and Muslims just like what happened two years ago. “The Inspector General of Police recently said that he will deal with us within two weeks because he believes he controls our lives. And look at how the governor of Borno State (Kashim Shettima) donated 10 armour personnel carriers to the police while the Nigerian President (Goodluck Jonathan) directed that more soldiers and mobile police be deployed to attack us. Is this move aimed at achieving a dialogue?” He added: “I think they are equipping themselves more and they want us to surrender our arms. Despite these contradictions, they (authorities) are telling the public that they want to engage us in dialogue. Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him said a believer should not allow himself to be attacked twice in one place.” He acknowledged that Islam encourages dialogue when certain conditions are met. “It is mandatory for Islam to have a sovereign land where Sharia is being practiced in the strict sense so that the dialogue will be between the Islamic country and the country of the unbelievers,” he said. He said the sect members will not also lay down their arms even as he claimed responsibility of the attacks launched in parts of the North and Abuja. “Some unpatriotic scholars gave them misleading justification on the need to attack us and the Federal Government under Umaru Yar’adua gave the open directive to attack Muslims which led to the destruction of their mosque and desecration of the Holy Qur’an as well as ill treatment of innocent women and children. “We want people to know that the Federal Government fought us and therefore, by the grace of Allah, we would continue fighting until we succeed or die in the process,” he said. Abu Zaid said the sect members would continue to trail former governors of Borno and Gombe states as well as the Bauchi State governor until they apologise for approving attacks on the Boko Haram sect. “We would not relent in our efforts of searching for them until they come out publicly and apologize. They must also distance themselves from this illegal democracy and give unalloyed support towards entrenching Sharia system,” he said. |
