Congratulations to us Nigerians! The enemies of Nigeria are obviously being put to shame. These are not only Boko Haram and its sponsors but those who want see Nigeria fail. The same people who have mobilized the press to tarnish the image of Nigeria and its leader will ultimately be put to shame. The people that for a long time have been predicting the fall of Nigeria are oblivious to their own vulnerabilities and the likelihood of their own demise. Nigeria's only real problem is the ethnic and religious divisions and it will be surmounted. The journey to nationhood has been bumpy but Nigeria is a blessed country destined for greatness. No one can curse who God has blessed! The people who thought denying Nigeria Ebola vaccine would see its doom ended up seeking its help when Ebola paid them a visit. The people who have refused to assist Nigeria with the technology and manpower to combat Boko Haram are witnessing once again Nigeria's ingenuity. Kudos to our defense chiefs for humbling themselves and forging the kind of alliance that is defeating Boko Haram. The enemies of Nigeria are now trying to break the alliance by attributing the victory to Chad and stirring up envy. I thank God Nigeria has been mature enough to ignore these distractions and focus on the job. The people who call our military incompetent should one day invade Nigeria and meet Naija boys face to face. Even if no one sells weapons to Nigeria, it has the kind of brainpower that is capable of building the weapons that will do the job. Not every Nigerian is fooled. We know our capacity. Nigeria is developing whether Obama wants to believe or not. Jonathan is neither incompetent nor corrupt when compared with these foreign detractors. He has skillfully and patiently maneuvered the traditional fault lines in Nigeria's political history and ultimately isolated the Islamic extremists. If he approached the counterinsurgency hastily, he would have played into the hands of Boko Haram and its backers and possibly thrown Nigeria into a religious war. He waited until the emirs and northern elders unanimously invited him to employ all means to crush Boko Haram. He has found other sources for the needed weapons without making any noise. Congratulations Jonathan! |
(CNN)Two men dressed in military garb went into a museum in Tunisia's capital Wednesday and opened fire, killing eight people and taking hostages, authorities said. Ambulances removed people from the Bardo Museum in Tunis as helicopters flew overhead, journalist Yasmine Ryan told CNN from the scene. Some gunfire could be heard, and video showed men and women running away for safety. Mohamed Ali Aroui, an Interior Ministry spokesman who detailed the deaths at the Tunisian museum, called the attackers Islamists in remarks on national radio. The Interior Ministry said there was a hostage situation. While Tunisia hasn't had the same level of violence as other nations in the region that were part of the Arab Spring uprising, like neighboring Libya, it hasn't been immune to it either. The government, for example, has been battling a jihadist presence in the Chaambi Mountains. And in February, the country's Interior Ministry announced the arrests of about 100 alleged extremists, and published a video allegedly showing the group possessed a formula for making explosives and a photograph of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Up to 3,000 Tunisians are believed to have traveled to Iraq and Syria, more than other country, according to the International Centre fort the Study of Radicalization in london |
