President Jonathan may show more of his aides the door before May 29. The sacking of Police boss Suleiman Abba, popularly believed to be the beginning of mass sackings and summary dismissals of top government officials seen to be working with the incoming leadership, has left many panicking. Government officials have been warned to desist from having any “unholy alliances” with the incoming President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari. A senior government official said the sacking started long time ago with the sack of Martin-Luther Agwai after he spoke about change at Obasanjo’s birthday lecture. Agwai was head of the Subsidy Re-investment Programme, SURE-P, a department created by the government to deploy saved fuel subsidy cash for the provision of infrastructure and jobs. The Oyo State chapter of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Odua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), has attributed the peace enjoyed in the country during the last Presidential and governorship elections to their appeasement of the deities of the land. A statement signed by Rotimi Olumo, the state’s Deputy Coordinator, and Ibrahim Oladapo, who is coordinating Ibadan/Ibarapa Senatorial District, Peter Akanni, coordinating Oke-Ogun, and Jide Julius, the state’s Secretary General explained in part that the action of Otunba Gani Adams, the national leader and coordinator of the group, seemed to be misinterpreted by many despite his huge efforts in ensuring that the exercise that generated so much apprehension did not result to bloodletting in Yorubaland and the nation as a whole. It said Gani Adams who is a man of peace, made much appeasement to deities of the land which he directed all chapters to also do. EBSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Idike, who spoke during a press briefing on the institution’s fourth to sixth convocation on Wednesday, explained that the students and staff of the university were sanctioned between 2010/2011 sessions to 2013/2014 session. The Vice Chancellor said that although the school had recorded appreciable improvement in infrastructure, academic standards, and accreditation of its departments, it’s still facing the challenge of poor funding. Women in Ikere-Ekiti have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the All progressives Congress lawmakers in the state, to shelve their impeachment idea or the gods will be invoked against them. The women said this during a peaceful protest staged against the plot to remove Governor Ayo Fayose and his Deputy by the APC lawmakers in the state. The women, in their hundreds, started the protest as early as 5.am at Oke Oja Area and danced round the town, chanting anti-lawmakers songs, warning that should the lawmakers attempt to impeach Fayose, violence would erupt in the state. The women stressed that any confrontation against Fayose was a direct confrontation against the people of Ikere Ekiti, where the Deputy Governor, Olubunmi Olusola, hails from.
