malbruno: my dear, u have Said it all, just an addition d consultants are meant to specialize in a particular area of study like consultant gyenocologist, consultant urologist etc. Their role differ, so it will be for Consultant chem pathologist, consultant haematologist consultant pharmacist when they have got the requisit qualification. How is it affecting other consultants who shld face their own specialty. what kind egocentric set of human beings

A consultant hematologist is a DOCTOR who after mbbs, did residency in pathology, for years and specialized in hematology... so also for chemical patholgy...

If a Med-Lab scientist who did 4yrs of basic MLS with 1yr(final year specialty) in either hematology or chemical pathology is awarded d title "consultant"...

How den do we differenciate both consultants?? will dey be strict job descriptions

If what for e.g, the MLScientists want is consultancy without furthering of degree or a residency program, i think it should be honourary given after some yrs of experience and it stays with dem in the Labs...

But even in some teaching hospitals, Drs. are being made to accquire a masters degree in additon to being a fellow, to be called a consultant...i.e mbbs is no longer enough...

Personally, i have no problems with Johesu members wanting the title... As long as they either go through d required training to hve equal say over the patients or thiers remain honourary and d pay, based on thier actual degree....

We can have d Consultant scientist, consultant pharmacist, consultant nurse... even consultant cleaners....

As long everybody sticks to his / her own specified contribution to patient care.

In OAU, all health sciences and pharmacy pay d same sch fees. am not sure of others. so if d sch fees for medical students is higher dan others in ur sch, dt's ur own cup of tea. U shud av come to OAU if u fink others paying less dan u is a problem
Again and again, not all health professional wan to study medicine, and dont say all other health profesional fail out of medical sch, in OAU wen u fail out of medical sch u cant go to other all health science.

PerfectFortune: The OP may claim not to be bias in his judgment but in my opinion, he is very bias.

To begin with, I don't think ppl hate Drs cos it's a title anyway but the attitude of the holder of the title. For your information, majority of the ppl don't like Nurses either part of the reason which has been stressed out already by the OP but they seldom disturb us Strike actions and selfish demands.

I am not saying there are no competent health care providers in the country, it won't be fear on them but the majority of them are incompetent.

I can safely say 70 percent of the so called Drs are incompetent but they want to be treated as gods.

Majority of the Drs working at various govt owned hospitals also work elsewhere either at their own private hospitals or get a job with a private hospital all to the deteriment of the poor masses who frequent the govt owned hospitals.

In most govt owned hospitals, you hardly find a Dr that practise the true essence of the profession but those that are arrogant, selfish and complete cheats.

Take the FMC ebute metta for instance, patients rush to the hospital as early as 5.30/6am to pick nos so they can attended to and return home early enf as it is not like anybody likes going to the hospital anyway but the Drs stroll in around 9.30/10am with no apology the long waiting anxious patients (since they beliv they shld be worshipd) and by 1pm they stop consultation till the next day leaving for their various private hospitals.

If I should start talking about their level of incompetence, the whole page will not contain it as there are even on several occassions where they are corrected by Nurses (on medication prescriptns).

In simple terms, ppl don't hate Drs but the attitude of the holder of the title. They are arrogant, selfish, incompetent, cheats and the big bang, "Killers" going on strike to divert patients to their private hospitals.

I will keep saying it, herbalists are better than most Nigerian Drs..

Be sure to visit a herbalist next time u need medical attention Dear... let us know how it goes

I'm a medical student...i'll be honest with you.

If u keep up with this scores(very average) u have, d only way u'll get medicine is if u have money and long legs... And it must be veeerrry long... Or maybe, divine intervention


If u want medicine on merit(state or federal uni), without any hassles... U must be able to blow them(school admin) away...

Unzik cut a lil above 290(aggregate) or so for medicine dis year...

It means dat sum1 who had 260 in Jamb... And 280 in post Jamb..i.e agg=270, will not get medicine on MERIT in dat school... In a school like UNN, even if d Provost of college of medicine collects ur name, u might come to d board @ d end of d day and see ''combined social sciences''(dey love giving dat course ehh)... I honestly dnt understand dat school...

Back to the topic @ op.... Do ur agric. dear... Try Jamb while doin it i.e, if u're still passionate bout medicine.... But u'll need to put in more effort to upgrade ur score... Dig deeper...
