This challebge is not only peculiar to people in diaspora, many children of Igbo parents who lives in Lagos, PortHarcourt even North are also being denialed of this gift of speaking their Mother tongue. Because of this challenge there are group of persons currently sensiting the public on the importance of passing down the language to their children. Infact there are YouTube channels and a new Igbo language school just started in lagos encouraging people to learn and get them selves acquainted with the culture.

As per going extinct, Igbo language is far from that, it is still widely spoken by milliions of people especially in South East eg. if you find your self inside Alaba/Trade Fair market in Lagos or streets of onitsha, Aba, Owerri, Umuahia etc you will be amazed on the difference usage of this beautiful languages.

I am from Anambra and can fluently speak/write both the general Igbo as well as my specific dialet. And for fun I also belong to a WhatsApp group that communicates only in Igbo language. I think such platform will aid you in your quest to learn and integrate into the culture with out crossing bother. If you are interested I can send you the links.

Has anyone ever done Bsc verification from Unical? I have just been informed that I will have to pay an equivalent of $100 to Unical before they can verify my result.

This is coming after 7months of constant calls for them to get the verification done.

If anyone has a better information as per this, please let me know.

Thanks

Hey, I saw this post and I thought you may get one or two valuable stuffs from it.

*LETTER TO NIGERIAN YOUTHS!*

_Throw Away That Degree Otherwise You Will Die Poor_

Most of the educated people in Nigeria are poor. Majority of the educated earn less than N55,000 for a salary before tax and other deductions. When the deductions are put into consideration, the net salary comes to around N50,000. The net salary then suffers from loan deductions of up to N15,000 leaving the salary at around N35,000. The landlord then demands for his N15,000 and monthly shopping takes away N10,000 leaving one with a N10,000. The bus will demand for N300 going to and from work and relatives get another N2,500. The whole salary is gone and borrowed money starts operating. The borrowed money includes short loans and salary advances.

The difference between poverty and prosperity is property. A prosperous person has property to his name while a poverty stricken person has no property to show. Using this understanding, therefore, most of the degree holders are poverty stricken, borrowing money to buy chicken and chips, pizza, and a car.

The biggest excuse for getting paid such low amounts of money and having to sit and work for another person for 30 days is THE DEGREE that one possesses and that’s all. This has made most of the degree holders very poor to poverty stricken and will die that way most likely. A degree holder does not know how to generate money unless that money is generated for the employer. A degree holder is so dependent on the salary that he can do anything to get a job but will not think of starting a business of his own to employ others.

Interesting Facts!

1. A degree holder is not prepared to sell chips but is very happy to work for hungry lion (companies).

2. A degree holder is not prepared to sell popcorn in the street but is very happy to work for Dangote outlet in the city and mum river-sides.

3. A degree holder is not prepared to sell second hand clothes but is very happy to be employed by Zenith Bank which the business of selling stocks and looking for customers in a scorching Sun.

4. A degree holder is not prepared to make N150,000 monthly doing his own business but is very happy to work at the till in a bank getting paid N25,000.

5. A degree holder is not prepared to start a company and grow it in two to three years but will spend three years searching for a job.

6. A degree holder is not prepared to sell food to students but will be happy to be reporting to a boss with no qualifications as Office Assistant as long as he is paid N30,000 for a salary.

7. A degree holder is so eager to get out of this country and work in another country than spend time to develop his own country.

8. A degree holder staying in a foreign land (Nigerian) is very keen to condemn Nigeria but never contributing to the development of this country.

9. A Nigerian degree holder would rather sweep the streets of London or USA than start a business to make money in her father land – others work in people’s homes doing some work (cleaners).

10. A degree holder in Nigeria will watch porn on his laptop but never sit to write a book using the same laptop to sell and make money.

11. A degree holder will blame the government for lack of jobs even after he was on government bursary for him to have his degree.

12. Nigeria is blessed with young people who have master’s degree and others are doctors in different technical fields such as IT and Engineering but all of them have failed to create a cartoon character or develop a movie from the same instead very happy to buy Tom and Jerry for their children thereby promoting American and UK.

A school I visit, there is a man that is of very humble background. He does not speak English but sells Coke, Fanta and Sprite at N80 each making a profit of N10 on each drink. He also sells chips at N50 making a profit of N17 on each portion. Not less than 80 students buy chips and a drink every single day. This means he makes a profit of N27 for a drink and chips and a total profit of N2,160 per day…every single day. In ten days he makes a profit of N21,600 in twenty days N43,200 and in thirty days N64,800.

The degree holder working in a bank at the till gets a salary of N45,000 every month.

Why are the degree holders poor?

Because they have decided to pride themselves in a degree and failed to think better than a man who does not have even a certificate to his name.

Degree holders spend their time liking articles on linkedIn and facebook but never have any care in the world to implement what they like. Poverty starts from the mind, a mind that just likes things but never to implement those things.

If you want to progress, keep that degree and start thinking better than someone without a degree. There's no white collar Job anywhere bro!

Be prepared to get your hands dirty and work like an ox for your business. Your hard work will pay off.

Check it out...
Business / Before You Post "How Can I Get Sales On FIVERR?" Try Reading This First. by izzychap: 4:24pm On Aug 22, 2015
I am aware that many new sellers post "I can't get sales, please help" almost everyday. Sad thing is, the reply to that question is usually the same: read the darn forum and do your own darn research.

This is my version of how to get a step closer to being successful. Hope this helps.

1. Be aware that Fiverr is NOT an easy way to make money.
Even though the starting price is $5, it's still a job.
If you are thinking that Fiverr is a fun, easy, fast way to make extra money, think twice.

It COULD be fun. It COULD be easy at times. It COULD be fast.

My record for finishing a gig was 10 minutes for a translation gig, and yes,
it was an easy $5, I admit it.
Still, you need to be aware that is a job, and you need to be professional.
If you do not know what "professional" means in this case,
I think you are not ready to work here.
If you really want to know what it means, read the forum.
ALL the answers you need are there.
If you are not willing to put in that extra time, sorry, you will not be successful.
Do not expect people to spoon-feed you the information.

2. TAKE YOUR TIME to set up your gigs.
It amazes me at times when someone asks for help on the forum,
and when I go check their gigs, I immediately realize why they are not getting any sales.
Sloppy gig description with bad grammar,
gig descriptions that were clearly copied/stolen from others,
using a random google image for their Fiverr avatar, bad quality sample images,
logo designers who are clearly using images that do not belong to them, etc etc.
It's pretty easy to guess that those people spent less than an hour to create their gigs.

I spent a pretty good amount of time creating my sample images when I first started.
When I decided to join Fiverr, I spent HOURS doing research.
I looked and read through hundreds of other TRS's gigs,
checked their description and images etc, and did my best to make mine BETTER.
When people ask "why are my gigs not selling? How can I sell more?"
I really want to ask them if they can compare their gigs with a
popular seller's gig and tell me if they honestly think it is the SAME level of quality.
Popular sellers are popular for a good reason.

The level of "professionalism" might depend on the country.
Even though you yourself might think you are being professional enough,
others might disagree with you. Go check the popular sellers or
buy a gig from them to check their level of service.

3. Be aware that there are over 2 million gigs here.
I think one of the most popular gigs here at Fiverr are the logo designs.
There are SO many of them, and new logo gigs are created everyday.
Others are Photoshop gigs like changing color, retouching photos,
removing background, etc. Again, there are soooooo many of them.
There are hundreds of the same gig already, so the chances of new sellers
getting an order in such a competitive category are very low in my opinion,
especially if the samples and description are not well put together.
If the new sellers had done their research and spent time
looking through the loooooong list of the same gigs,
they might have realized and told themselves
"OK, maybe I won't have a chance here with a logo gig,
there are way too many. "
Sadly in some cases, this may be true.
It doesn't mean you have to give up though.
You just need to come up with something different and unique,
but that's something you will need to come up on your own.
I myself have a logo gig, and it's not my best selling one,
but I am doing pretty OK.
I think I was able to get some orders because I made it unique in my own way.

4. Promote.
This I won't get into the details. Read through the forum please.
If you can't find your answer at the forum ( after all, it is a lot to read),
go online and search for ways to promote your online business.
Again, if you are not willing to put in that extra time,
what the heck oh you know the rest.

5. Be patient. ( I don't think I'll need to explain this one either)

6. Accept the sad fact

So I have seen gigs which I personally thought was a good idea,
but for whatever reason, the gig was not getting any orders.
The sample images were good, the description was good,
I thought they were unique. But no sales.
Why? Maybe, just maybe, your gig is simply not in demand.
Even though you thought it was a good idea,
unfortunately people did not see it that way.

You don't have to delete that gig, you can try tweaking it,
but you might want to think about creating different gigs too.

One more thing:
Maybe you are simply not good enough. Yet. (And you are not aware of that.)

I've had some new sellers message me asking for advice for their illustration gig.
They wanted me to critique their work.
And I'll be honest, some of them were simply not good.
The gig description was clear, they created original samples,
they used their own images as an avatar.
But the drawings, in my opinion, were not good.
I'll be mean and honest here, even if they told me I can get an image for free,
I won't want it. I'm not talking about the style of the image,
I'm talking about their skill.
If that's the case, the only think you can do is improve your skills.
Don't use Fiverr as a way to improve.
Improve first, and then come back. I think you'll do better that way.
Fiverr is a good way to expand your portfolio,
but don't use it as a practice ground.

A bit of a sidetrack, when I say "not good enough,"
this does include the English grammar in my opinion.
I have seen gigs with good quality, but the sellers were having a hard time
because the grammar was not perfect.
Even for something like logo design gigs,
you will need to know a decent amount of English
in order to prevent communication problems which might lead to a bad rating.
I am aware that not everybody is a native level English speaker,
but the majority of the buyers are from English speaking countries I believe.
If you want sales, you will need to know English.
If you don't have the skill, ask/hire someone to handle the English part for you.
Be sure you can trust that person's level though!
If you are not able to find or hire a person that can help you with your English,
you might have problems. Some people might think "hey, why are so many people
making such a big deal out of this", but if you are not willing to take that
extra step to communicate clearly with your sellers,
that shows how NOT serious you are.

Let's say I found 2 sellers I thought were EQUALLY good.
There is a high chance that I will choose the seller with the better English,
(this has nothing to do with where the person is from)
because depending on the gig, it's those subtle little things that the
seller needs to understand. True, even with native English speakers,
miscommunication will occur. Still, at least in my mind,
I get the feeling the chances will be lower.

Does this sound unfair? Yes. But I think that's how people think and
act in many cases.
Having that said, IF your gigs are REALLY good, I'm sure MANY people
are willing to ignore the English part. So be sure those gigs are really good!!

7. This might overlap with the "be professional" part, but

DO NOT STEAL.

Do not steal other people's images, description, etc.
I have seen many new seller's lies getting exposed here at the forum,
since so many of them created a gig by using other people's image/description,
and to my shock they had the nerve to wonder why they were not getting sales,
and they will come to the forum for help.
When you steal someone's gig, in most cases it will be noticed right away.
You will be labeled as a liar, and will be VERY hard to gain back that trust.
I have seen a few ugly dramas unfold here because of that.

OK, this got long....thanks for reading! -

I recently just concluded my nysc this July and have since been trying to secure a job...Now I have been sending many applications since February but still no luck...

The question now is that if I acquire a masters degree, would that guarantee me a job in Nigeria...or everything is based on connection, because I am really confused. don't know whether I should use the little money I saved up during my nysc to pursue masters or I should keep on the job hunt.....

I would appreciate good advice from experienced people here and lastly I graduated with a 2.2 in the dept of metallurgical and materials engineering.

Before going to Master on any discipline or professions, work experience (hands on)is very key.
Since your are a Met/Mat Graduate, look for firms that are into Inspections, Lifting, Welding or Pipeline Corrosion Management, approach them and offer to work for them either paid or unpaid (ie intern), you will gain valuable experience through this means and with time you can do certifications on NDT, CSWIP ie Welding Inspection etc. and perhaps Msc if you still have the interest. Masters can not guarantee you a job.

Goodluck to you on anything you decide to do.
