Military officers arrested for sabotage Some Military officers believed to be working with some civilians to launch a smear campaign on the Nigerian Army and the person of the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, are being interrogated by the Army. A statement by the acting spokesperson of the Army, Col Sani Usman states that the smear campaign which is geared towards undermining the efforts of the Army in the fight against Boko Haram, is to start from next month. He called on Nigerians not to believe any information posted online that dents the image of the Nigerian Army. Read the statement after the cut... The Nigerian Army has received report of some elements both within the Nigerian Army and outside, especially through the use of the social media circle to ridicule the Nigerian Army and the person of the Chief of Army Staff for reasons best known to them. They intend to execute this plan as from next month, December 2015, using all means possible; lies, fabricating baseless stories, falsehood, publishing and broadcasting them through some designated print and electronic media, most especially the Social Media. The Nigerian Army has identified some of the officers involved and their collaborators. The officers are being investigated to unravel their motive and motivation. The public and the media are please requested to be careful and wary of these disgruntled persons. They should please disregard any such material from them. The Nigerian Army holds the media in high esteem. The Nigerian media is one of the best in the world and have consistently been partners in progress and very supportive, understanding and cooperative with the Nigerian Army especially in the fight against terrorism and insurgency. This at times comes at the risk of their personal safety and corporate existence. The role of the media in nation building and conflict resolution, peace building and social responsibility is never in doubt. They have proven to be very important stakeholders in our collective efforts to restore peace and stability in our great nation. With this and so many other things, the media, especially the online publications, should not be involved or lured into such dubious campaign. As always, our doors are open for clarification, enquiries and reactions on any issue concerning the Nigerian Army before filing or publicizing such stories. It is imperative to note that the fight against Boko Haram terrorists is at critical stage, any attack on the Nigerian Army will be counter productive and serious distraction on the fight against terrorism and insurgency. More so, as we are busy trying to defeat Boko Haram terrorists based on the given presidential mandate. Consequent upon this, we are calling on all Nigerians not to fall prey to their campaign of calumny. This is because their evil intents would be distractive and capable of reversing the gains on the fight against Boko Haram Terrorists. Therefore, all hands must be on deck to ensure the defeat of Boko Haram terrorists and safety of lives and property in our country before the end of the year. Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman Acting Director Army Public Relationshttp://topnewsgate.com/index.php/2015/11/24/military-officers-arrested-for-sabotage/

A baby was baked to death in an oven by her toddler brother and sister after they were left alone at home. The twin three-year-olds watched as 19-month-old J’zyra Thompson kicked the oven door after they made it “hot”, court documents claim. Mum Racquel Thompson and her boyfriend had gone out to fetch a takeaway pizza and a prescription, leaving four kids under the age of five in the flat without telling a gramdmother who lived in the same block. They returned to find little J’zyra with severe burns and called paramedics to their home in Houston, Texas, but it was too late to save her. Detective Ronda Pemberton said: “Upon arrival of paramedics they found a deceased one-year-old. “We found the baby next to the oven. It appears to be accidental.” Estella Olguin of the Child Protective Services said: “Both of them had left the children home alone. “What was reported was that they had left to get a pizza. “The children were left at home for an extended amount of time and that’s when obviously the child somehow managed to be inside an oven.” No charges have been filed, although the CPS said in a court filing that criminal charges were expected.According to the court records the two three-years-old told investigators one of them put the J’zyra in the oven, and the other turned it on. When she arrived home Thompson, who is seven months pregnant with her current boyfriend’s child, tried to revive her baby with CPR but she had already died from severe burns. Authorities said no suitable relatives were found after the tragedy to look after the children and they have since been placed in foster care. “The court found that there was an immediate danger to those three children and granted us emergency custody,” said County Attorney Amy Strickland. Two of the children in the apartment at the time are children of Fredrick Price who is the former boyfriend of Thompson and was unaware the children were left alone. He said: “It’s very irresponsible, someone should have been here or I should have gotten a phone call, come and get my children.” Price said he was unsure if J’zyra was his after the former couple failed to take a paternity test. “I haven’t heard from my children in months,” add Price. “I’ve been trying to contact Racquel. “She was a cute little baby, I just didn’t know if that was my daughter or not. J’zyra’s grandmother, Gina Dennis, said: “She was a sweet baby. This is unexplainable. I have no words.” According to neighbours Thompson used to drive the kids without a licence or car seats.http://topnewsgate.com/?p=352&preview=true

The Lagos State Government says the Vehicle Inspection Services and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will work with the Federal Road Safety Corps to rid the state of its traffic problems. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Anofiu Elegushi, made this statement during a visit to his office in Alausa, Ikeja, by the Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC. He said: “Managing traffic in Lagos requires all agencies with related responsibility to act in unison rather than at cross purpose. “Synergy among traffic and security agencies will boost enforcement against traffic offences. A significant number of motorists and vehicles do not have the necessary papers to be on the road.” He also called for the establishment of a mobile court to try traffic offenders arrested by the team.http://topnewsgate.com/?p=345&preview=true

A North Naples man who claimed he was sleepwalking when he broke into his neighbor's house was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison and 10 years of probation. Mark Nowak, 56, was convicted in October on five charges of burglary, theft and resisting arrest in connection with the February 2014 break-in at a home near Vanderbilt Beach and Livingston roads. Nowak faced a guideline minimum sentence of three years and a maximum of life in prison. He had no prior criminal record. At trial, Nowak claimed he accidentally mixed medications before the burglary, causing him to lose all memory of a five-hour period. But prosecutors said Nowak deliberately cut through the neighbor's lanai, jimmied a sliding door, disabled the power and an alarm, and rummaged through the house. Nowak barricaded himself in a laundry room and tried to escape in the neighbor's vehicle when police arrived. Investigators found tools typically used in a burglary inside the home.
