KingEbukasBlog: A Christian is simply a follower of Christ . This has been interpreted in various forms - it may or may not incorporate the view that Christ is divine or a deity . Arianism , which is in fact a Christian doctrine though considered heretical , that Christ is divine but not a deity - this view does not mean an Arian isn't a Christian .
Atheism is the rejection of deification of an entity and with this definition an atheist can reject the deification of Christ but still follow his moral teachings and/or his way of life that does not involve God like his life of austerity , his life of pacifism or deprecation for violence etc . There are already atheist Christians - its a thing whether you like it or not . Christianity is more than following christ. This is similar to how muslims lie that "muslim" simply means "one who submits to the will of God" A basic dictionary definition does not do justice to a multifaceted thing like religion. Keep up the lies sha. You are doing great. |

KingEbukasBlog: Christianity is based on the life of Christ . If you don't see Christ as a deity but as a human like Confucius , you can have an atheistic stance on the religion .
You really don't have anything new to offer I can see that clearly . The same Christ who prayed to and is the messenger of God (Yahweh)? The same Christ that came to bring the message of God? The same christ that taught about the pleasure of God's kingdom So, ignoring the whole old testament that was without christ is now sensible in christianity? ===================================== Kingebuka, you are a liar without shame |

The only religion that is growing based on high number of births is ISLAM and that is based on high number of wives per male Muslim. Get your facts right and stop spreading your dumboism around.
The rest of your comment needs no response because as always they lack merit. However regarding your number 4 comment I suppose nairaland with her less than 2 million population of which a lot of the monikers are actually known as 1 person owning an average of 2 monikers to their name which would mean that the actual number of nairalanders would be less than 1 million if a strict 1 person, 1 moniker policy is applied yet you say religious people are leaving in droves
By the time 1 religious person is leaving religion on nairaland then 50,000 to 100,000 is being added to religion via conversion at the same time elsewhere.
The figures for atheism are too low to even loose sleep over. you guys are like a fart in a hurricane. Atheism is stupid abi? I'll leave you to your delusion. |

butterflyl1on: Vacuums are meant to be filled. Any absence of one thing means something else has to replace it. This thread is not about any of Christianity or Hinduism or Taoism etc getting credence (stop trying to shift the goalpost as always)
It's simply a credible empirically submitted report about the massive decline of atheism worldwide. If people are dumping it this quickly it simply shows that :
1. People naturally do not want to be associated with stupid things for long
2. People are prone to change and often times would prefer better to worse
3. Self examination forces change. In this case, self examination exposes an emptiness in atheism and since everyone feels a need for love (which atheism often denies) they would gravitate towards the light and away from the cold darkness.
4. Atheism is a transit point do is extremely temporal. How did I miss this glorious nonsense? So wait..... 1. so you are just saying that atheism is stupid? That is not an argument that is an ad-hominem. And studies show that atheism has a positive correlation with intelligence. 2. Sometimes true and sometimes false. People dont always change for good, ergo, electing Donald Trump 3. False, more people convert to atheism (or deism or no religion) from the internet and university than other religion. This is true in developed countries 4. How many people have you seen convert from atheism to religion? Even here on nairaland, we see religious people leaving in droves to atheism but hardly the other way around. The simple fact that you are too biased to see is that religion (islam and xtianity) is only growing as a result of high number of births and not conversions. |

KingEbukasBlog: There are atheists in religion and even though deism rejects religion , there are some deistic beliefs that were already religious . Eg the classical deist believed in after-life and some kind of reward-punishment system that would be used by God to judge man . Some can have personal and transpersonal relationship with God - some people can consider this to be a religious way of life.
Many who are unaffiliated don't identify with any particular religion but this does not mean they won't have even a smattering of beliefs that one can consider as religious .
And studies have revealed that atheists born in atheist homes abandon atheism later in life lending credence to the what I mentioned earlier about man being hard-wired to be religious (atheism used here to refer to the irreligion ) This guy can twist and lie. Damn |

budaatum: What is meant by "believe in the personal God called Yahweh"? The fact that it is personal means my relationship is whatever I say it is. But I agree that it may seem contradictory and oxymoronic to perceived opinion
There's that "personal" again!
Bollocks, pardon my Spanish. A certain Christian prayed to God in Jesus name last night before going to rob a bank. A certain Pastor prayed for his congregation last Sunday in Church, took from the offering and went to a LovePeddler house afterwards in the jet he bought. Surely we have taken a "few of his teachings" and disregarded the bits that do not suit our purposes. We are a la carte Christians taking from the menu as suits our hypocritical needs. Jesus is still lord, we would claim, and saviour. We don't have to be perfect you know, and the fact that Jesus died to wash my sins away is a comforting bonus!
Jesus was what he was. Come on man! Some say Jesus was a god! Do I have to become a god too in order to followhim?
Buda is what buda is, least as far as buda is concerned. Simple and short
Rubbish. And sorry again, it's for effect and not aimed at you personally. Church, or mainstream may reject me, but I intend, first, to lie and make them think I am holy, and second, I can go to a different church and not tell them, and third and more importantly, I can do my worship in private. I wouldn't be the first one doing a Jacob nor do I need authority to be whatever sort of Christian I claim to be!
"Jesus is my lord and saviour. Jesus is not a god!" I have come to this conclusion based on logic and rational, as far as I am able to and it satisfies me. I may be an oxymoronic, non-mainstream, logical, rational, deist, atheist, Christian to some, but their opinion or label stamping, is not my problem!
My point is, ones relationship with ones god is inherentally subjective and personal to the individual. You have given some good counter arguments. However, it all points to your summary that religion is just subjective bollocks. Anyone can claim anything nowadays. Women now call themselves "muslim feminists". |

budaatum: Why?
We used to read stories about the hare and the tortoise when I was young. Would a lack of belief in any aspect of those stories stop one from being inspired by them? Does one have to believe in hare and tortoises to be inspired by them?
It has a meaning, you just don't want to allow it to have one. Please read the quote below for further comprehension
The fact that Christ is a source of their inspiration would make some people classify them as Christians.
The beliefs of the individual do not require mainstream acceptance. And one does not need a congregation to validate ones stance!
Some would argue he was a Jew but he seems to have stepped out of the box. It could also be argued that he has inspired one to do likewise, hence the personal position/perspective/ ideology etc.
I've heard that one before, and it goes like this:
"Atheists have no morals because they....."
Get the drift? The points I made are very simple. 1. The God of the bible is a personal God. How can you be a deist and still follow Jesus or the bible when both of them make it clear that it is a prerequisite to believe in the personal God called Yahweh. No matter how you treat it, it is a contradiction. Christian Deism is an oxymoron. 2. The bible is written by men inspired by God. That is the common saying but you are right- "inspired" is not appropriate because it is an understatement. What I mean to convey is that the bible is written by men who were in contact with God. That is a personal God. 3. Being a christian is far more than just picking a few teachings of Jesus christ. After all, few of his teachings are universal in many philosphies and religion. So, because I agree with the golden rule, I am now a christian? 4. Jesus was not a deist. Simple and short. 5. If you are rejected by a mainstream of your religion, then you are not a valid school of thought within the religion. Even if your logic is sound, you are outside the religion. An outlier. 6. We have a christian deist here that tries to make moral arguments based on his christian deism. That is what I am challenging. The difference with atheists (especially humanists) is that they base their morality on logic/rationality. The christian deist ignores over 75% of the bible but still wants to use a form of religious morality. How? |
