Have you ever considered that a husband/wife can loose interest in his/her spouse on account of being overweight?! I believe most people are pushed into marital infidelity simply because their partner is no longer the person they married weight-wise, hence they pursue their fantasies elsewhere. If I were in a position were my spouse is over-weight, I will cajole her into joining a gym, or going out running together; but if all else fails, I don't see myself being in a relationship were I am NOT physically attracted to my partner, I will be deluding myself. It's not about selfishness either, it's simple common sense.

So if you're not physically attracted you'll stop loving your spouse? Interesting and very vain. Even if my spouse lost an arm or a leg or went blind, I wouldn't just abandon him for selfish reason. You still don't understand what selflessness is.

Let's NOT deceive ourselves that this is about selfishness, genetics, child birth e.t.c. The fact of the matter is that there are two main reasons people put on weight; eating more than enough calories, or not doing physical exercise. Being overweight is not justifiable for whatever reasons, the earlier people start becoming honest about their own body and do something about their weight, the better for them.

There is no deception here or trying to justify being fat. I was only trying to address some ignorant comments made on the thread. The point is why should one threaten to leave a spouse over something like that? Would you break up your family over your spouse gaining weight? It's a selfish reason to get a divorce. Think about it. . .

I guess it's easier for some people to just throw their hands in the air and use threats. I'd like to think there are more emotionally mature people who would encourage and support their spouse no matter what. OP let us know if there's a happy outcome to any of this.

You are a good man. There is a lot of ignorance in this thread. One doesn't just become overweight over night and that shouldn't be the end of a relationship anyway. If you care or love the person you are with, you either accept them or help them. Why be selfish and arrogant about it and throw away a good relationship all because of vanity? There's this misconception that being overweight means you're lazy. Yes some overweight people are indeed lazy, but there are lazy people every where. There are many contributing factors to being overweight . . . like child birth, genetics, low metabolic rate, etc. So let me pose this question: If one day you found out your spouse has cancer, became paralyzed, or suffered from any serious illness, what would you do? Divorce them cause you don't want to take care of them?  Makes me wonder what the world is coming to. The husband in question really has a lot of nerve to threaten to leave his wife. This woman has probably bore children for him, clothed and fed them and him, and he's overlooking all the other things she's done all because she gained some pounds. Just selfish smh.

Maybe the husband shouldn't threaten his wife and be helpful. He can help her watch what she eats. Tell him to take her to the gym and they can exercise together. My bf did the same and we work out 2 times a week. That lady's husband should be a little more sensitive IMO there is nothing wrong with being big. You can be big and active.

Just had a meeting with me family and have accepted to go on with the wedding. Although they all agreed I can do anything after the wedding if the need be, they however pointed out that it will be suicidal if I call off or postpone the wedding. My fiancee father is a clergy and has already announced to his congregation about the wedding. Calling off the wedding according to my family and friends would shame both families.

Wouldn't a divorce also shame your families?
