Politics / Re: Interest Rate: Why Emefiele Is Right Not To Reduce It Now. by JAkpayen(m): 6:33am On Sep 22, 2016
Intelligent economic suggestion from EternalTruths. Those saying that CBN should lower interest rate should examine the 2016 Budget and see how much is allocated to capital expenditure, just a mere ₦1.8T from budget proposal of ₦6.07T. FG will still service debts running into trillions of ₦. If interest rate is reduced, governments (including States) will borrow to pay salary arrears thus making inflation go up.

The truth is that FG does not have sound fiscal policy to drive the GDP growth rate projection of over 4%

Forex trading can be tricky , many times. I know , early price moments today will be as a result of upcoming FOMC meetings, so that they can grab what ever they want to get in time, and render FOMC reports useless. I will see what that one will cause again because the market has moved too much to the brime ttoday. I wont be surprised, if there are reversal again.

Business / Re: Monetary Policy Committee Raises MPR To 14% by JAkpayen(m): 5:44pm On Jul 28, 2016
^^^
The MPC decision was not to attract investors but to stabilise price. See why they did so:

The Committee’s Decisions

The MPC, recognizing that the Bank lacked the instruments required to directly jumpstart growth, and being mindful not to calibrate its instruments in such a manner as to undermine its primary mandate and financial system stability, in assessment of the relevant issues, was of the view that the balance of risks remains tilted against price stability.

Consequently, five (5) members voted to raise the Monetary Policy Rate while three (3) voted to hold.

In summary, the MPC voted to:

(i) Increase the MPR by 200 basis points from 12.00 to 14 per cent;
(ii) Retain the CRR at 22.50 per cent;
(iii) Retain the Liquidity Ratio at 30.00 per cent; and
(iv) Retain the Asymmetric Window at +200 and -500 basis points around the MPR

an MPR increase speaks only in favour of attracting FDI as I see it, yet that alone is just one out of many things that gurantees FDI. Even if I'd gain 100% in six months, I'd think more than twice before sinking my money in a place where I wont find it easy to get my money out whenever I want to, so other fiscal polices must accompany this policy else it may perform far below hopes.

Reducing workers' pay is a rare occurrence in this country if it at all ever happens.
And despite the banning and un-bannings, demand for most of the banned items has hardly abated, the bans have only succeeded in profiting smugglers, corrupt customs officials and others close to power.

I'd support the cbn removing all controls to eliminate arbitrage but the opportunists are hip-joined to those in charge so "over their dead body" and the rich don't die easily
Do you know that the US FOMC had planned to increase its rate? Reason was to return core inflation to 2% and they watch improvement in labor market as a criteria. Does this mean they want to attract FDI? NO.

It is the FG that can attract FDI into the economy and create the conducive environment to improve employment but because we have non-existent or weak macroeconomic policy in place, hence the situation of the economy. In its decision, the MPC stated that they want to stabilise price and the financial system thus inflation needs to be controlled. Let's wait until the end of this quarter to see if things improve. I'm sure if the economy improves by their next meeting in September, the tone might change.

@Seun & Truth234,
As CBN governor which will you combat first between Higher Inflation and Higher Unemployment? I bet you unemployment will not skyrocket but rather workers pay may be reduced so that unemployment is avoided.

Emefiele and Buhari thought macroeconomics cares any hoot about "Body Language" or blind patriotism (Buy naija to grow naira abi how dey been advertise am sef).
http://nairametrics.com/emefiele-needs-to-do-this-one-last-thing-to-attract-foreign-investors/
and rather than to stimulate growth, our CBN governors (Buhari+emefiele+shadow bizmen) decided to go chasing inflation as if the price of anything in Nigeria has ever gone down in recent history.
NDA and their sister avengers on the other hand are just bleeping stupid except if they're stealing oil to go sell abroad in which case one may hope some "unbooked" dollars is entering this country without reaching Abuja for sharing and this, if not for the accompanying environmental damage I wont mind.
Bolded: the CBN policy to increase MPR to 14% is aimed at stabilizing the economy amidst skyrocketing prices.

We are not exchanging words per se, we are actually discussing if you'll agree. So its a healthy debate if you ask me. You want CBN to lower MPR to a single digit whereas inflation is in the double digit & rising? Okay agreed, how will FG source funds for budget?
Have you forgotten we'v been delisted from JPmorgans bond
Or you don't remember the budget deficit that require heavy borrowing. how do FG create jobs & stimulate the economy if we don't even have enough to pay salaries, let alone invest in capital projects. Where were you when CBN reduced the MPR rate ? Everytin you are suggesting has been tried out, aint nothing new. We hv lowered the rates yet inflation rose aggresively. This is the route we must take, its a gamble but we must take it.
Our banks are in a turbulent situation, if then you lower lending rates to say 8% & inflation is 16%, how do you want the banks to hedge against inflation. You need a holistic view on this topic bruh. Its okay if you don't agree, but what you suggest now has been tried before with no positive results. We have to try the bumpy route!
Good point Chukzyfcb!

Truth234 should realise that trading the financial market is entire different from the economy situation. As a trader, you are just a speculator. Sometimes the market may not respond to the policy no matter how good if the long term is bleak.

In a situation (Stagflation) like this, there is not much the CBN can do otherwise we will experience economic shock. The best option is using the contractionary monetary policy which they have done to stabilise the naira and hence attract investors. The painful truth is that the masses will suffer for this because we maybe heading into recession. Reason is that we are a net importer country and the demand for imported things keep increasing. In essence, we "imported" inflation into the country because of our appetite for imported items at higher costs of importation.

Politics / Re: Inflation Hits Highest Point Since Obasanjo’s Presidency - NBS by JAkpayen(m): 1:56pm On Jul 18, 2016
LordVarys:
The consumer price index (CPI) measuring inflation in the Nigerian economy rose to its highest point since former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s days as the first citizen of Nigeria.

The inflation report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that inflation for the month of June spiked to its highest point since October 2005 — 11 years.

Inflation rose from 15.6 percent in May 2016 to 16.5 percent in June 2016, as energy and food prices weigh in heavy on inflation for the month.

Goldman Sachs, an American multinational banking and investment firm, forecasts that Nigeria’s inflation will not rise above 20 percent in 2016, before it takes retreats to lower levels.

https://www.thecable.ng/just-in-inflation-hits-highest-point-since-obasanjos-presidency#.V4yFJnp7xUA.twitter
The major reason for rise in inflation rate is that CPI rose by 4 index points to an all-time high of 202 index point against 174 YoY. This means that despite the economic hardship, Nigerians are still spending more on goods and services but getting less value. Something does not add up here, if unemployment rate keeps increasing where do Nigerians get the money to spend. With this it is certain CBN Monetary Policy Committee Meeting next week will decide on raising the interest rate next week.

Chai!! @ OP, you fall my hand oooo! This is energy generated and not power. If we can generate such power, I bet you the light will be constant 24/7 in Nigeria.

MWh is a unit of energy whereas, MW is a unit of power. Energy and power are two words often confusingly interchanged. Energy is the amount of work done, whereas power is the rate of doing work. To convert MWh to MW, you should divide MWh by the time applied in hours. MWh = MW * Hours, and respectively MW = MWh / Hours

Your ear wax has built up so much and the ear-piece has prevent it from coming out of the ear canals thus causing blockages. Don't follow any self help advise. The reason why you need see an ENT is because of other symptoms you experience like pain and the hearing loss.

If you must use ear-piece, do the following:
1. Use low volume (30%-50%) when listening to music.
2. Always wipe with a disinfecting wipes or an antibacterial moist disposable cloth treated with a cleansing agent let them dry thoroughly before putting them in your ears, since the residual cleaning solution can irritate the skin of the canal.
3. Avoid scratching your ear canal.

People are making millions every day processing high quality cassava and u are here talking rubbish
There is almost no flour in Nigeria with 100% wheat.. . Even noodles now use 40% cassava flour.. . That's the main business now. ..

So in truth.. U eat cassava flour almost every day
You are very correct! Infact every milling company is obligated to add 10% into the flour, and SON and other regulatory bodies monitor such.

Anyone that can supply about 50MT of process cassava flour will be making millions.

blackpanda:

Pls my dear, stop telling lies. Nobody uses cassava for anything. GEJ agenda was just orchestrated to siphon money. Thats all
Guy I laugh grin grin seeing your pictures. The flour used in processing the Pasta & Noodle already contains % of cassava. It's like asking a Bakery (visit popular one) to name cassava as part of the ingredients when it knows already that the wheat flour bought contains cassava.

@MalcoImX, when next you hear cassava bread it does not mean 100% cassava flour. I believe you were not bred in the era of 1985's when wheat was banned. Then we had corn bread 100%. It was so strong more than Olumo rock and nobody told the government then to unban wheat sharperly.
