Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, says Peter Obi is “politically” bigger than Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He was reacting to Kwankwaso’s recent statement, where he claimed to be politically bigger than Peter Obi.

Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), during an interview in Kano, had argued that his political stature surpassed that of Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of Labour Party (LP) in last year’s election.

Weighing in, Ahmad, in a post on X, said while he had always admired and respected Kwankwaso as a progressive political figure, he cannot align with his assertion.

He wrote: “Even though I have never been a Kwankwasiyya loyalist, but I have always admired and respected Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and see him as one of the progressive political figures we have in this country.

“However, I do not agree with his recent statement during his interview in Kano, where he claimed to be politically bigger than Peter Obi. Looking at the results from the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi garnered 6,101,533 votes and led in 11 states, demonstrating significant national support. In contrast, Senator Kwankwaso secured 1,496,687 votes and led in just one state, Kano.

These numbers clearly suggest that, at least in the context of the 2023 election, Peter Obi has significantly more political influence across the country.

The Ogun state governor has suspended all levies paid in all markets of Ogun state except for development and sanitation levies.

He has also gotten the committment of transport unions not to increase transportation fares without reason. This will help to reduce the prices of food and other items in the markets and also ensure transportation doesn't increase.

In the blink of an eye, the price of fuel has soared from ₦165 per litre, with subsidy in hand, to a staggering ₦1300 per litre, still under the cloak of subsidy. And it is not a matter of debate as to who claims the ₦1125 per litre with each transaction made.

Woman and four other suspects arrested for selling stolen tricycles in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a woman for allegedly selling stolen tricycles.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this during a press briefing at the police headquarters on Monday, September 9, 2024 said the female suspect, Maryam Ibrahim alias Ummi, received seven stolen tricycles from Kano State and sold them in Bauchi.

“The Bauchi State Police Command is pleased to announce the successful apprehension of five individuals involved in criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property through the diligent efforts of the State Intelligence Department,” the PPRO stated.

“Among the arrested suspects is a female individual who has been implicated in receiving stolen tricycles from Kano State and subsequently selling them in Bauchi State.

"It is heartening to note that preliminary investigations have revealed that she has sold approximately seven stolen tricycles within Bauchi.

"The suspects arrested include; Maryam Ibrahim alias Ummi 'f' aged 30yrs of Gombe road, Bauchi, Adamu Sale alias Brother 'm' age 30 years of address, Umar Ibrahim alias Baba Luti 31yrs of Gombe road, Bauchi, Nasiru Usman 'm' aged 29yrs of same address and Nasiru Musa Umar alias Nass 'm' aged 27yrs of Ibrahim Bako estate, Bauchi.

"This successful operation was made possible thanks to credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities and the hard work of the State Intelligence Department of the Bauchi State Police Command.

"Exhibit recovered includes seven tricycles popularly known as (KEKE NAPEP)

"We want to reiterate that engaging in the receiving of stolen property is a serious offence with severe consequences, as per Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria, stated that any person found guilty of this offence can face imprisonment for up to fourteen years.

"The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court for the established offense, as investigations continue.

“We appreciate the support and cooperation of the community in providing valuable information that led to the apprehension of these suspects.”
