SirLakes: You believe the figures coming from NCDC?
How many have tested and how many have contracted the virus?
Simple logic, results of most of those who tested CAme out positive.
Nigeria is a ticking time bomb on Covid.
The only thing I think right now is that maybe our immune system is kinda strong to the virus that's why we aren't recording casualties.
Maybe Nobody has accurate figures. Do you really believe that the densely populated cities like Beijing and Shanghai really have no cases? Do you really believe that there are only 140k cases, 2,500 deaths in America which equates to a mortality rate of 0.58%? Experts suggest the mortality rate should be less than 0.2%, but it is high solely because only symptomatic individuals are getting tested and not the entire populace. Nigeria may be a ticking bomb, but until there are adequate testing kits to go around, only those with symptoms will be tested. |

Right now Nigeria is not testing or record shit. We have never been good at record-keeping we don't even record the country birth and death records. We will only know the through numbers when the fatalities are all around us. Maybe not, but we don't have enough testing kits to test healthy asymptomatic individuals. Sorry. |

Jaqenhghar: With no ventilators, no health facilities, no testing kits, no accurate number of corona cases but they are better off in Niggeria. SMH Nigeria has ventilators, sure just in limited quantities. America is running out of ventilators, I have relatives there who said they are using Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP) machines as ventilators, which isn't ideal. They have all the money to buy ventilators, but there isn't adequate supply. When a patient's heart stops and they call a "code" the doctors don't even have enough N95 masks (airborne masks) to enter the room and resuscitate the patient. To limit exposure to the medical staff, they only do 1 or 2 rounds of CPR, if there's no pulse, they end it and allow the person die. So don't be too quick in thinking the foreign countries are that much better equipped or prepared than us. |

Well, all other symptoms are now gone beside the coughing which is mild.
Nothing is as it is painted in 9ja Very good. Testing wouldn't have cured you. Self isolating yourself is the right thing to do. If you start having severe symptoms like dyspnea, seek emergency care. |

Germany alone does half a million COVID-19 tests weekly with a population of just above 80 million people, the story about testing kits bring limited us complete nonsense....how would Nigeria not have at least 50,000 test kits on standby ?? Is it expensive? At least I know a ventilator cost more than $25,000, and Nigeria as a country don't got 1000 ventilators. Is this a country? babaolofin: Don't you know that you have exposed your foolishness in the public domain without any deep intellectual meditation. From specialist hospital to NCDC offices, no organization accepts responsibility for testing, you are talking about testing based on symptoms. Do you know how many Nigerians have the symptoms you mentioned above that are walking about the streets? Do you know if any of them have such symptoms? In Lagos center, despite the money made available to NCDC and the large population of people in a crowded state such as Lagos, how many have they attended to? If Lagos State has relied on NCDC, situation of things would have gone out of hand. The same thing happened during Fashola regime when there was Ebola virus, NCDC was virtually on holiday. Even, if person on emergency on covid - 19 had been taken to those places, that is exactly how responsibility would have been shifted from one organization to the other, but if it is to share WHO, USAID, EU, CIDA, JICA and other donor organization funds, then everybody will claim to be involved. You people better wake up. I don't know how many people walking the streets of Nigeria have symptoms. Stay focused. All I know is that OP did not have any symptom and wanted to get tested. Not gonna happen. |

9jakool: Who told you that? Coronavirus is different from the common cold. Yes it's true that high humidity can cause the virus to hang in the air for lesser duration of time, but it doesn't kill the virus and the virus can still fall on surfaces. The reason why New York metro is the epicenter is because it's highly densely populated and is the largest domestic and international transport hub in the US.
Warm weather didn't stop Indonesia, a country on the equator from recording a spike in cases. It now has over 1,000 cases and growing with almost 10% fatality. The situation is more dire in Nigeria, because it's a country without an adequate health care system and with very little social programs due to corruption and negligence. We don't even have up to 500 ventilators for 200 million people.
Many people still have to put food on the table and pay bills. How can they afford to self quarantine or isolate when they have to earn a living? Unless the government issue more measures, suspend utilities bills and provide some financial assistance, this situation can get worse. Yes they should offer assistance just like foreign countries are doing, that too may come. I'm not commenting on that area obviously. However, its not just about population density if not, the cases in Houston or LA will be just as bad as New York. Even Indonesia, the 4th most populous country still has far less cases than the U.S. |

It's a game of important people first. We need to demand for accountability from them. Why don't they have enough test kits with this virus being around for over 3 months. Why are we just creating isolation centres when we could have banned travelling?
Abeg, don't let me start.
I didn't proofreed, so forget about typos and focus on the message Lol, so now you are in the same echelon as El Rufai? Guy please stop making laughable arguments, it will permanently soil your online reputation, remember your comments can be dug up later in life. President Trump displayed no symptoms either, but he was in a meeting with people who tested positive and he had to get tested. Of course members of the top ruling class such are presidents, prime ministers, governors etc should be tested if they think they might have come in contact with anyone who tested positive. Do you know how chaotic Nigeria will be if President Buhari was to test positive and die from COVID-19? Now imagine the same thing happening to Trump the leader of the free world. It will be chaotic and disruptive. The stock market will crash even further, there will be destability, and that my friend is one of the reasons why people like El Rufai get tested, symptomatic or not. Moreover, how do you know he had no symptoms? |

iamwhat: Don't be foolish, and stop misinforming the public, No European country turns their back at citizen willing to get tested, even USA just approved a 5 minutes test kit. Did you read the post at all? How many confirmed cases in Nigeria exhibited COVID-19 symptoms before they got tested? Any responsible citizen that had contact with a positive person must present himself/herself for a test and according to the OP, such a person would be treated the same way and the virus would continue to spread. Our Government is irresponsible because of irresponsible people like you that defend them. You are another dyslexic person who cooks up stories in his head to justify his beliefs. I repeat, USA is not testing anyone without symptoms. Abbott came out with a 5 minutes test 2 days ago, it hasn't been massed produced and there still isn't enough tests right now to randomly test 300 million asymptomatic people. Read the foreign news media more often, stop thinking your government is out to sabotage you. |

chinene1: When it's your life on the line, you are free to judge as you like. Someone comes into the country without symptoms and decides to take people to go get tested is hailed for having forsight when one of them tests positive even without showing symptoms cos he is well known. Another ordinary citizen tried same but did not succeed and he is selfish but the governor who had the test done 6 times isn't. Hopefully if you find yourself or someone close to you in a similar situation, you will have the opportunity to take your advice or offer your opinion. It will be considered foresight if you start dating a new partner and you both had unprotected sex and now all of a sudden you are worried you might have an STD. Hooray! Bingo! you are the model citizen for asking to get tested. Why? Because you are taking the initiative to not only get tested and probably have your partner get tested, but ultimately, there is enough testing kit to go around for STD but just not corona virus. I hope that analogy makes sense. |

Is It my problem we don't have enough test kits. 4. And mind you, if the same person turned down enemies has it and infect your relatives too before test is okay? 5. Donation made 2days back get to Lagos State today and await usage in 5more days to come??
Lastly, what your problem Are you part of NCDC ? We should encourage only those with symptoms who are seeking tests, everyone else should remain home. You ask if its your problem that we don't have enough test kits? Think for a second, this is a new virus that originated in late 2019. Nobody randomly stocks up test kits to detect an unknown virus unless of course you have a time-travel-machine that allowed you to travel into the future, witness the pandemic then ask your government to stock pile 200 million testing kit for a new virus. Even I got a headache typing that. |

Geofavor: There isn't an unlimited supply, but there should be a lot of it. Maybe not available to all, but available to most. The actual number of cases, hopefully, shouldn't have reached 5 figures yet. At this point, we still stand a good chance. If anyone feel they might have it, let them be tested. The government is not giving out incentives to its citizens like the countries you mentioned. Let them use all the money they would have otherwise used for that and the money they're getting to create and equip many testing centers now that it hasn't gotten out of hand ( hopefully). If asymptomatic people are not getting tested, they will keep spreading and even those who were tested before and tested negative will eventually get infected. Let's be wise. No it doesn't work like that. There is a limited supply of testing kits right now so therefore, they need to be selective in screening. Now if you have 200 million testing kits laying around, absolutely, you can test everyone, until then, only those with symptoms are priority everyone else should adhere to the stay-at-home order until the curve flattens, or there is a vaccine (highly unlikely this year) or there's a treatment. |
