Sadly, American education is not cheap.
I'm truly amazed at the number of parents sponsored people who go for undergraduate degrees in the US from Nigeria. Even Americans take loans and student debt is a big problem that even the Democrats and Republicans haven't been able to solve.

That being said, I think you really need to search properly. Email the graduate coordinators about funding opportunities. You have nothing to lose. The worst thing is 'sorry we don't fund foreign students'. Press them. Email professors. It's hard work but it pays off.

Since your parents are willing to help, just look for financial aid even if it's partial. School fees is a big burden. Can't imagine having that burden over me....

So over to you. Start emailing..
@edbib thanks so much, can u pls PM ur bbm pin or whatsapp no.

jascymone it depends on your school/department funding. It's typically very competitive for most 'average' schools. You might want to talk to a few professors in your department before you leave, or once you get there-some will want to take their course(s) your first semester and see how you perform before they can give you some funding. Also, you should be ready to show interest in their research.
@biikeys @ edbib thanks so much for your contribution, i do appreciate a lot. why i asked the question is because of the amount being stated on i20 for the first year of the master's degree programme which ranges mostly between $28000- $45000 in some schools. I ll like to know if the same amount is meant to be prepared for the second year so as to know what to plan for and an estimate of what my parent should plan for throughout the course of my masters degree programme should in case the GA/RA/TA was not given the second year.thanks in anticipation

In most schools, the bank statement does not affect admission offer, however, your I20 will not be issued without a sponsor's bank statement. The amount reflecting on your Bank statement must also be seen as capable of funding your studies for one academic year. Bank statement does not determine if you will be given admission or not. Offering admission is one thing and issuing I20 is another ball game that is hinged on ability to pay school fee which will reflect on your BS.
It is possible for some schools not to ask for bank statement, that depends on some factor like if you have been given full ride scholarship, otherwise, it is a NO NO!
I hope this has addressed your questions and possibly allay your fears.
Thanks brother and congrat on your visa approval

@idazbawz i celebrate u brother.HBD Long may your chimney smoke!
pls i ll like to ask few important questions:
1.Can a school give admission to student even if asked to submit proof of financial support and bank statement for the past 6 months and there is no much money that can cover the amount as required by them for a full year expenses. ****kinda confused with that****
2. When can they possibly demand for the bank statement? Is it when am done with the submission of all other document or during the course of the application submission
3. Is it possible for some schools not to ask for the bank statement?
i am currently working towards admission for my masters come fall 2015. Pls i ll be waiting for a comprehensive detail on these.
Thanks beautiful people

Hello everyone,

Joined this trend 2/3 weeks back and realised it's really informative. I studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering with cgpa of 2.65/5 but intend to go for my masters in USA; preparing to take the GRE by end of January if it is not too late for fall 2015. pls i will like suggestions from anyone who could be of help as regards to
1.If it is not too late to be admitted for fall semester
2. schools with low tuition fee + accommodation not more than ($20000/year) and cgpa of 2.5/4 on the usa scale
All suggestions are fully welcome and if possible a link as regards to this info on the previous thread. Thanks
