sCun: I was enjoying the thread until I got to this part, it just spoilt my mood. What are we going to do about these Fulani cattle rearers for God's sake? Does it mean that we will start having regular clashes with them like the middle belt when we (South east) go back fully into agriculture? What is the solution? There is a solution to cattle now. It's no longer a problem. Use Jatropha plant as a perimeter fencing. it repels cattle and also has economic value. if I knew this 2 in 2013, it would have saved me a lot. that's why we learn everyday. |

jjman2322: How would you be able to vouch for the farmers? If it sounds reasonably safe i'll be able to invest no problem. Money sitting in my account doesnt do anything good question. I am developing a farm estate. so... they produce and my people will market it. It's more of a cluster farming arrangement. |

jjman2322: Hey Jasper,
Are you looking for investors? I already have a good business (pharmaceutical manufacturing, and we employ over 300 people).
I would like somewhere to put some of my money into, for a small return.
Maybe you could use the money to buy land, expand, etc. I have a good amount of millions to invest, let me know if this is something you are interested in doing.
I also have a lot of available land in Anambra that will be idle forever, so if its something you can use let me know... I read the whole thread and im proud of what you are doing, I just don't have enough time to get into this business full time. Thanks sir. Am not particularly searching for investors. but I am currently training some farmers. if you invest in them, I guarantee 100% return on investment in 1year... and you would have been able to serve humanity that way. and set up some people. |

sheikh89: @jasper7, i no wan dey ghost mode again......
gt som further questions to ask...a local farmer here says dt dey dnt sell in Kg dt dey stuff it in a poultry feed bag & it goes for 3k, says its alwys around 100 pcs insyde.. my question is: are dey being ripped of coz each cucumber is going for #30?
2ndly, how mny average sized cucumbers mk up a kg?
tnx A learner. let me just cut in here. just as lagbaja said, 3k is okay for feedback. but if 100 cucumber fills up a bag, then it must be a very small specie. A bigger specie will be at most 60 a bag |

cbrass: Jasper7 I really like your post and will like to learn from you. I want to go into poultry precisely egg production. Although am scared with all you have said earlier but I have done poultry on a small scale before.we reared Turkey and some broilers then. Suddenly the Turkeys summersaulted and died. Up till today I don't know what happened. But I love poultry and want to go back but this time to make more profit.
I want to convert my dad's 3 bedroom flat for this use. I think the Place is ventilated enough. Please advice if it's OK and any secrets to cut down feeding expenses . Thanks alot are you sure it's well ventilated? from the little I know, ventilation is key o. if not, them go just somersault and die. heat kills birds like no man's business. so... you have to find a solution to that. create more windows or put an industrial fan in the chicken house. the easiest way to cut down cost of feed is to formulate your own feed. visit the poultry threads on this section for more powerful info |

Soloxam: I guess the cause of slow growth is the hamatharn, cos it retarded the growth of plant, in fact if care is not taken most seeds during hamatharn will not germinate. very very true... the the relative humidity is low during harmattan season. that's why we encourage the use of mulching film. |

lagbaja: Dear Jasper, I am so proud of what you are doing. You are an inspiration. I will make my contributions too. I was a cucumber grower too in the past. I stopped because of staff challenges. I will be restarting again, this time I will be doing cucumber and water melon. At my first trial, I did Drip irrigation, like you experienced, it was very challenging because staff just won't make it work. I had drip tapes for 5 hectares. Here are pictures of my nursery using cocopeat. What you have on the picture are 5 day old nursery. this is fantastic. I like your nursery. hope you made good money from your farm? |

Sutsillac: God blessu jasper for ur selflessness. I hv sm acres of land at Ogun state and I intend to start farming on it this year. I know u said u cannot say wot the cost implication will be cos of diffeeence in areas n people. Wot I want is an estimate of wot u spent wen preparing ur land till u harvested. Just so I can make an informes decision and compare cost with wot I already found out here at ogun state. Thanks It's okay... If you can answer the following questions I think i can give you a rough estimate. Is there water in the land? is it a farmland or a virgin land? Do you have an estimate for the cost of labour in the area? |
