you are absolutely right sir.
AgricultureRe: Pastor Ashimolowo Explains The Importance Of Rice Farming by jasper7(m): 7:38pm On Jan 06, 2015
stagger:
Tomorrow when he buys a private jet, people will say he has stolen church money to do it. Now he goes into rice farming on 140 acres (which is 56 hectares of land) and people are saying he has appropriated church money to do it. Haba!

I can lease 56 hectares of land from the river basin authorities at the one-third of the cost of what it will take to fuel a Boeing 737 aircraft from Lagos to Abuja for an hour's flight. I am just saying that planting rice on 56 hectares of land is within rich of any young person doing well in Nigeria.

Pastor Ashimolowo does not need to steal anyone's money for it. Leave the man alone.
Well said sir. I taya for Nigerians. we always have a way of finding faults. even when the person is doing the right thing
AgricultureRe: Practical Farmers Pls Share Ur Bitter Experience, Let Learn From Your Mistakes. by jasper7(m): 7:16pm On Jan 06, 2015
sorry for my long epistle. the reason I wrote something this long is because I want to call people to reason. and see the errors in their ways. The 2 strong lessons I learnt from my poultry experience is that.

Never start any agribusiness you don't understand and have not practised. Even if you must do it, start small. Trust me, the best approach to the pool of farming is to dip your toe in first.
see why, if you fail in a big business, you are a big failure. if you succeed, you are a success.

secondly, before you implement anything anybody online tells you in your farm. pls verify the information from other experienced farmers. also verify the authenticity, and credibility of the farmer. Thanks
AgricultureRe: Practical Farmers Pls Share Ur Bitter Experience, Let Learn From Your Mistakes. by jasper7(m): 7:05pm On Jan 06, 2015
it's interesting that we make so many rookie errors in agriculture. I love to see myself as a rookie. some years back when I was running a big poultry farm in my house. it was a farm of very interesting boilers. I wanted to start packaging at 1KG and start distributing to hotels around my area. because I was already supplying them fish at that time. I spent alot of money building pens for them. It's actually a long story, but bottomline was that I ran into crisis, because my cost of production was by far higher than my sale price so I was running on a perpetual loss. I consulted a "professional farmer" on Nairaland. told him my problems and he proffered solutions. Do you know I took his words hook, line and sinker. because of the way he boasted here of the millions he has made from broilers. His "solution" put me into a bigger mess. till today, am still angry about the whole experience. it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

well, as it turns out. the so called professional, had no idea of what he was talking about. am not even sure he knows what a chicken looks like. because the advice he gave me, when I consulted experienced farmers, they said that all the things the guy told me are rubbish. on paper, it looks good. but practically, it's not feasible. that's when I discovered that the young man I have been hailing as a professional is actually an internet farmer, hungry to sell e-book. That's when I discovered that the real farmers don't have time to write e-book, because they are too busy developing virgin lands and breaking new grounds.

same applies, think about it. how many dangote's, adenuga's, bill gates or Carlos slim's of this world have written books on how to be a billionaire or how to run a successful business. None! who writes those books? poor men, who use those books to become billionaires. Look at Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad). you'd be surprised that he declared bankruptcy about 3 years ago. but he's the biggest consultant on wealth in the world. How?

Put your mind to reason. if you want to learn about something. go to those who have succeeded in that thing abd observe them. do your own research and you are good to go.

what's there? what matters most is how much they gave the man, and how often they help people especially when no one is watching.
life is not centered around money. there are some levels of joy, money can't buy you. and it is a bad mentality to expect financial aid from everybody that seem better off than you.

Jasper in hand, flight in mind, a soul left desolate in its wake, a glorious destiny left thwarted in his agenda.

On to the next soul that loose guard.
On to the person who is the true driver of his destiny
On to the next vessel that holds precious jewels meant to further Gods kingdom
The Jasper thief approaches, a sack in hand and with a calm soothning and charming voice makes his prey detached from reality, just like the wise rat that nibbles on the feet of a human nd yet blows air upon it to throw of any scent.
Beware you that has a precious jasper, many walk the streets EMPTY" in shells nd destiny.
Guard your heart and destiny jealously. Beware of bad company and let the jasper creator take charge of your ship.

Good evening sir, I will like to know the initial cost from the land preparation stage to the harvest on a two hectares of land.
I dont know how I'll draw such quotation for you o. honestly. because it cannot be near accurate, if I don't consider the current state of the land, the cost of labour in ur area and general location of the land matters too.

Hi Jasper, God bless ur sweet soul. I joined Nairaland today because of Cucumber and watermelon and found ur thread so educative. please u re doing a great job here. pls as regard cucumber, it means one can plant round the year since there is constant supply of water for irrigation. or is there planting season?
thanks, am happy I could be of assistance.
you see what people fail to understand is that planting season is determined majorly by climatic factors. cucumber doesn't have season, once irrigation is available
AgricultureRe: Modern Cucumber Farming. My 1 Million Naira Experience *with Pictures* by jasper7(op): 1:08am On Jan 04, 2015
Doctor said I need rest. but how can I sleep when there's a lot to be done. I need people to make it through agriculture. I need to be involved in people's success. This year I have decided to do a lot of travelling and visiting of people's farms. help them set-up and reach their goals. brace up! cos if you are planting, I might be visiting you.

I thought about this a lot during the tail end of last year. why do I leave my well paying farms and start visiting people and helping them set up. what do I stand to gain? Not much, but I believe in having a strong network of farmers who grow similar crops, I believe that is the key to marketing. And besides I need land. I want to expand. and I am getting good offers for land in the west. cheesy.

This my sickness and my many travels towards the end of last year showed me that I don't necessarily need to be on ground for my farm here to function. I have able hands, and partners who can keep it ticking here. while I explore other locations.

Trust me, a lot will happen in agriculture this 2015 and a select few will gain from my enthusiasm. while I gain also from their knowledge and ideas. watch this space, great things might soon start happening here
