AgricultureFrom Struggle To Surplus: How Training Is Transforming Cassava Farmers In Oyo by Jatuski(op): 7:00am On Mar 25
For years, cassava farmers across Oyo State worked tirelessly on their fields, yet their harvests barely reflected their effort. With yields averaging just 10 to 12 tons per hectare—and in some cases as low as 7 tons—many farmers remained trapped in a cycle of low productivity and modest incomes.

Today, that story is changing.Through a targeted training programme on Good Agromonic Practices (GAP) and mechanisation, farmers are now achieving harvests of 20-25 t/ha, effectively doubling their yields. Behind this transformation is a structured initiative led by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) in collaboration with other partners, designed to equip farmers with practical knowledge, modern tools, and market access.

Mr. Samuel Ogunleye, AATF’s Cassava Mechanisation Project Coordinator, explains that the training goes beyond theory. It is about “equipping farmers with the best practices for cultivating cassava and introducing mechanisation services that make farming more efficient and profitable.

”The programme is ambitious in both scope and impact. A total of 4,650 cassava farmers are currently being trained across seven local government areas in Oyo State, forming part of a broader target to reach 6,000 farmers within three years.

The timing is deliberate. According to Dr. Adeyemi Olojede of the National Root Crops Research Institute Umudike, the training is held during the farming “slack season” in March and April—ensuring farmers can fully participate and immediately apply the lessons as the new planting season begins.

For many farmers, the training has been nothing short of transformative.Ogudinran Ganiyu, a retired teacher turned cassava farmer in Iseyin, recalls how a simple shift in land preparation changed everything: avoiding burning on farmland to preserve soil nutrients.

He also learned to adopt improved cassava varieties sourced from research institutes such as IITA in Ibadan.Another farmer, Ismail Adekola Aremu, describes the experience as eye-opening. From proper spacing techniques to the use of tractors, the training introduced him to practices he had never encountered before.

“What I learned here will improve my farming,” he said, expressing excitement about the possibilities ahead. For Adeniji Elizabeth, who studied Agricultural Education, the training reinforced and deepened her knowledge. She highlights precise planting methods—such as maintaining 1m by 0.8m spacing—and proper land preparation as critical factors that directly influence yield. “If you follow these practices,” she notes, “cassava farming will bring increased income.”

The impact of the programme extends far beyond increased yields. Farmers now have access to mechanisation services, reducing the burden of manual labour and improving efficiency.

Even more importantly, they are linked to an assured market through a processing facility that converts cassava roots into High-Quality Cassava Flour (HQCF). This guaranteed offtake eliminates the uncertainty that often plagues smallholder farmers.

The introduction of value-added training has also sparked excitement, especially among women, who see new opportunities to process cassava into flour and other confectionery products to generate additional income.

Early results suggest that the initiative could deliver a 40–50 per cent increase in yields over current averages, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for processing factories while boosting household incomes.

More importantly, it is igniting a shift in mindset. Farmers are no longer just producers; they are becoming agripreneurs, adopting innovations, embracing mechanisation, and exploring new income streams.

As one participant put it, the training has turned farming from a struggle for survival into a viable pathway to prosperity.

In rural Oyo, the cassava fields are no longer just growing crops—they are growing confidence, opportunity, and a more secure future for thousands of farming families.

PoliticsTimi Frank Slams Tinubu Over ‘lagos-centric Agenda’ by Jatuski(op): 8:20am On Mar 23
*Alleges plot to relocate Nigeria’s capital by President

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of pursuing a hidden agenda to relocate Nigeria’s federal capital from Abuja to Lagos, while allegedly sidelining other regions of the country.

In a strongly worded statement, Frank described what he called a pattern of “suspicious and calculated actions” by the administration, claiming that major government decisions, investments, and agreements were increasingly tilted toward Lagos.

According to him, “it is now clear” that the President’s long-term plan is to concentrate political and economic power in Lagos if given another term in office.

Frank alleged that federal appointments and development initiatives under Tinubu have been largely one-sided, warning that such a trend undermines national unity.

He insisted that Nigeria needs leadership that treats all regions fairly, stressing that “we don’t need a president who is one-sided,” but one who ensures equitable distribution of opportunities, infrastructure, and governance.

The outspoken activist went further to accuse the administration of worsening nepotism beyond previous governments, including that of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He argued that while past administrations had been criticised for imbalance, “this is the worst,” alleging that key positions and benefits are disproportionately skewed.

“Where are Tinubu’s MOUs tied to agricultural and livestock production in the North, industrial development in the South East and oil and gas development in the South-South? None!” he said

Frank also raised concerns over a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and foreign loans, alleging that many of them are tied to projects in Lagos without visible nationwide impact.

He claimed that despite multiple agreements and borrowings, Nigerians are yet to see corresponding tangible developments across the country, questioning the transparency and execution of such deals.

On the recently reported £746 million port refurbishment deal involving the United Kingdom, Frank described the arrangement as economically disadvantageous to Nigeria.

He argued that the structure of the deal - requiring a significant portion of contracts and supplies to be sourced from British firms - amounts to a situation where Nigeria incurs debt while foreign companies reap substantial benefits.

He warned that such agreements could deepen Nigeria’s debt burden without delivering commensurate value, alleging that the country risks being used to boost foreign industries at its own expense.

According to him, “Nigeria must not be turned into a dumping ground for exploitative financial arrangements disguised as partnerships.”

Frank lamented about the handling of the construction of the Coastal Highway, saying, “What is happening with the coastal road raises serious concerns. If the project were genuine, it would have followed the original master plan conceived under late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, which was designed to commence from the Niger Delta, particularly from Calabar.

“However, what we are seeing now is a deviation from that plan. The project has been kickstarted from Lagos, apparently to achieve a political objective before the end of the current administration in 2027, while the original vision has been abandoned.

“Secondly, no President in Nigeria’s history has divided the country and its people along regional and ethnic lines the way this administration has done.

“There is a growing sense of alienation and division among Nigerians that is deeply troubling.

“It appears to be a deliberate strategy to impoverish certain regions, especially the North, South, and South-East, so that citizens are economically weakened ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

“At the same time, there are allegations of large sums of money being distributed to influence public opinion and silence dissenting voices. Nigerians must be cautious and not allow themselves to be swayed or compromised by this deliberate act that could further deepen poverty and division in the country.

“No President should pursue personal interests at the expense of national unity. What we are witnessing is an unprecedented level of division among Nigerians across regions.”

Frank called on Nigerians to critically scrutinise government policies and international agreements, urging greater transparency and accountability in governance.

He also appealed to relevant institutions and stakeholders to ensure that national interest, equity, and sovereignty are not compromised.

PoliticsMalabu Oil: Tinubu's Govt Driven By Propaganda, Not Substance - Atiku by Jatuski(op): 6:42pm On Mar 22
*Urges PENGASSAN, NUPENG, others to remain vigilant

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government over its handling of the OPL 245 dispute, describing recent claims of a “final resolution” as misleading.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Atiku Media Office said a fresh legal move by Malabu Oil and Gas Limited shows the matter is still far from settled, contrary to earlier assurances by government officials.

The statement pointed to a pre-action notice issued by Malabu through its counsel, Chief R.O. Atabo (SAN), which it said challenges the narrative of closure being promoted by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.

According to the statement, the dispute remains active in court, with cases still pending before the Supreme Court and the Federal High Court.

It also raised concerns that Malabu, described as a key stakeholder in the oil block, was not involved in any negotiation leading to the reported resolution agreement said to have been executed at the Presidential Villa.

Atiku argued that sidelining a major stakeholder while legal proceedings are ongoing raises serious questions about transparency and due process.

It described the development as part of a broader pattern under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which it accused of prioritising optics over substance.

Beyond the OPL 245 issue, the statement expressed alarm over reports that up to 30 percent of Nigeria’s Joint Venture assets under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited may be put up for sale. It warned that such assets are critical to the country’s revenue base and should not be disposed of without full transparency and accountability.

It also raised questions about the reported relocation of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services to Lagos, with an alleged annual rental cost exceeding ₦9 billion. The media office said such spending, at a time of rising debt obligations, reflects poor fiscal priorities.

The statement further referenced unverified claims linking the property involved in the relocation to interests associated with the President’s family, noting that failure to address such allegations could erode public trust.

On the broader state of the country, the Atiku Media Office said Nigerians continue to face worsening economic conditions and insecurity despite government claims of reforms. It cited rising debt levels, ongoing security challenges, and what it described as increased spending on image management as signs of deeper governance issues.

"Contrary to official pronouncements, it is now clear that the matter is far from resolved and remains the subject of multiple subsisting legal proceedings, including cases before the Supreme Court and the Federal High Court.

"Even more troubling is the revelation that Malabu — a principal stakeholder with longstanding legal and equitable interests in OPL 245 — was neither consulted nor involved in any purported negotiation or settlement process. This raises fundamental questions about the legality, transparency, and integrity of the so-called “Resolution Agreement” reportedly executed at the Presidential Villa.

"A government that sidelines critical stakeholders, disregards pending judicial processes, and proceeds to celebrate a disputed agreement demonstrates not strength, but recklessness.

This development is not an isolated incident. It fits into a broader and disturbing pattern that has come to define the Tinubu administration — a pattern of governance driven more by propaganda than by substance, more by optics than by legality, and more by expediency than by national interest.

"We are alarmed by credible reports suggesting a planned sale of up to 30 percent of Nigeria’s Joint Venture assets under NNPC Limited. These assets are not mere commercial instruments; they are strategic national holdings — the backbone of Nigeria’s revenue architecture. Any attempt to dispose of them without full transparency, competitive valuation, and public accountability would amount to the quiet auctioning of Nigeria’s future.

"We call on PENGASSAN, NUPENG, and all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to remain vigilant. The Nigerian people must not be shortchanged through opaque transactions carried out under the cover of reform.

"Equally concerning are reports surrounding the relocation of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services back to Lagos at an alleged annual rental cost exceeding ₦9 billion. At a time when Nigeria is grappling with an unprecedented debt servicing burden — rising from nearly ₦7 trillion in 2023 to about ₦16 trillion — such expenditure raises serious questions about fiscal discipline and priority setting.

"Even more disturbing are allegations, yet to be credibly refuted, that the property in question may be linked to interests associated with the President’s family. In public service, perception matters. Silence in the face of such weighty allegations only deepens suspicion and erodes public trust. This is how institutions are weakened — not always by overt illegality, but by a steady erosion of transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.

"The OPL 245 controversy is therefore not just about an oil block. It is emblematic of a larger governance crisis — where due process is treated as optional, where legal disputes are repackaged as political victories, and where national assets are handled with troubling opacity.

"At the same time, Nigerians continue to endure a worsening security situation. From banditry to kidnappings, from insurgency to violent crime, the country remains under siege. Farmers cannot farm. Businesses cannot operate safely. Citizens cannot travel without fear. Yet, instead of decisive action, what Nigerians receive are carefully crafted statements designed to mask inaction.

"Security is not a slogan. It is a duty. And on this fundamental responsibility, the government continues to fall short.

" The economic outlook is no less troubling. Despite claims of increased revenue, there is little evidence of corresponding improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, or education. Borrowing continues at an alarming pace, while public debt edges dangerously toward unsustainable levels.

Reports of millions of dollars allegedly spent on foreign image-laundering efforts only reinforce the perception of a government more concerned with optics than with outcomes.

"This is not reform. This is misgovernance dressed in the language of reform.

Nigeria did not struggle for democracy only to witness the emergence of civilian authoritarian tendencies — where opposition voices are targeted, dissent is discouraged, and institutions are weaponized.

"We reiterate: democracy thrives on accountability, transparency, and respect for the rule of law. Any government that undermines these principles undermines the very foundation of the Republic.

"The Nigerian people deserve better. They deserve a government that tells the truth — not one that manufactures victories where none exist. They deserve an oil and gas sector governed by transparency — not secrecy. They deserve economic management rooted in discipline — not reckless borrowing and opaque spending. They deserve security that protects lives — not assurances that ring hollow.

"The unfolding OPL 245 saga is a stark reminder that no amount of propaganda can substitute for due process. No declaration can override the courts. And no government can outspin the truth indefinitely. History will take note. But more importantly, the Nigerian people are watching — and they will not be deceived."

Politics‎adamawa Youth Demand Power Shift To Central Zone by Jatuski(op): 7:57am On Mar 20
*Urge Galadima To Join 2027 Guber Race

‎*Extend food, cash support to hundreds of residents

‎A coalition of youth groups in Adamawa State, operating under the banner of the Tijjani Galadima Youth Forum, has called for a political power shift to Adamawa Central Senatorial District, specifically Yola South in the lead-up to the 2027 governorship election.

‎The group also urged Tijjani Galadima, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), to contest for the state’s top seat.

‎The call was made during a large-scale humanitarian outreach organized by the forum, where food items and cash were distributed to about 500 residents across different communities.

‎The initiative, described by organizers as part of their Sallah package, saw 300 beneficiaries receiving 25kg bags of rice along with N50,000 each, while the remaining 200 individuals were given N50,000 cash support.

‎The youths said their decision to publicly endorse Galadima stems from what they described as his proven track record, integrity, and capacity to lead.

‎They emphasized the need for Adamawa Central to produce the next governor, arguing that equity and inclusiveness in leadership rotation are essential for sustained peace and development in the state.

‎According to them, Galadima represents the kind of leadership the state needs at this critical time, one grounded in experience, competence, and a people-oriented approach.

‎They maintained that he possesses both the courage and the vision required to build on existing development strides.

‎Speaking at the event, Abdurrashid Abubakar, a prominent supporter of the movement, commended the organizers for what he described as a far-reaching and impactful Sallah intervention.

‎He noted that the outreach reflected the organizers commitment to humanitarian service and grassroots engagement.

‎Abubakar further described Galadima as a calm, peace-loving, and progressive-minded leader whose leadership style resonates with the aspirations of the people. He stressed that the youth remain a critical pillar in the political structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that their collective voice would play a decisive role in shaping the party’s future.

‎In a related remark, Engr. Dahiru Adamu, who was represented by Mohammed Saidu, disclosed that consultations were ongoing among stakeholders across the state to build consensus around Galadima’s potential candidacy.

‎He explained that the push for a candidate from Yola South is rooted in a broader desire to ensure that Adamawa Central also benefits from the state’s leadership arrangement.

‎Adding his voice, Ashraf Halilu Kawu, a youth leader from Yola South, described Galadima as a “formidable political force” with widespread support cutting across all parts of the state.

‎He revealed that the group was committed to mobilize resources, including purchasing nomination forms, to encourage him to join the race.

‎Similarly, Aliyu Haidar, Organizing Secretary of the forum, recounted how the movement began with just a few individuals but has since expanded into a statewide campaign vehicle.

‎He highlighted Galadima’s contributions to education and youth empowerment, citing several instances where students benefitted from his support.

‎Other stakeholders, including Safwan Abdallah from Yola North and Mustapha Ibrahim, a grain dealer, also expressed strong backing for the proposed candidacy. They pointed to Galadima’s generosity, humility, and developmental impact as reasons he stands out among potential contenders.

‎A number of stakeholders including Dahiru Hammandikko, a renowned APC stalwart pledged to continue the clarion call on Galadima to contest the governorship position till result is obtained.

‎They noted that even in Islam a leader is usually nominated by people and when an overwhelming majority endorse a candidate, he has no choice other than to heed their calls expressing optimism that Galadima will not disappoint them.

PoliticsOML 245: You Lied, Malabu Oil Tackles FG by Jatuski(op): 10:28pm On Mar 19
The Federal Government’s celebration of the alleged resolution of the long-running OPL 245 dispute has suffered a major setback, as Malabu Oil and Gas Limited has issued a formal pre-action notice challenging any regulatory move to implement the controversial agreement.

The development casts fresh doubts on official claims that the dispute has been conclusively settled and raises new legal questions over the Federal Government’s recent public declarations on the oil block.

In the pre-action notice dated March 17, 2026, and addressed to the Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Malabu, acting through its counsel, warned against any regulatory recognition, approval or implementation of arrangements concerning OPL 245 while several suits over the asset remain pending in court.

The letter, written by R. O. Atabo, SAN, LL.D, on behalf of the majority shareholders and directors of Malabu Oil and Gas Limited, stated that the company was neither consulted nor involved in any negotiation, mediation or settlement process leading to the agreement recently celebrated by government officials.

This directly contradicts the impression created by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, who had portrayed the OPL 245 deal as a major breakthrough that would reposition Nigeria’s economy and strengthen the country’s fiscal outlook.

But Malabu insists that its legal and equitable interests in OPL 245 remain alive and are still the subject of several pending judicial proceedings before competent courts in Nigeria, including matters before the Supreme Court and the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Among the cases listed in the pre-action notice are Malabu Oil and Gas Limited v Nigeria Agip Exploration Limited & 5 Ors, Appeal No. SC/ML/356/2025, and Malabu Oil and Gas Limited & 2 Ors v Kweku Amafagha & 9 Ors, Appeal No. SC/CV/959/2025, both pending before the Supreme Court. The company also cited ongoing proceedings before the Federal High Court, including Suit Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/201/2017 and FHC/ABJ/CS/206/2017.

Malabu further disclosed that following what it described as the purported striking out of its name from the register of companies by the Corporate Affairs Commission, it had instituted another suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/2137/2025, to challenge that action.

The company said it had become aware of public statements allegedly issued on behalf of the Federal Government suggesting that a settlement or restructuring arrangement had been concluded over OPL 245, particularly an announcement said to have been made around March 5, 2026, indicating that the Federal Government, Nigeria Agip Exploration Limited and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited had reached a resolution.

However, Malabu declared that the majority shareholders and directors of the company were never consulted, were not invited to participate in any negotiation process, and never gave consent or approval to any purported settlement or restructuring arrangement relating to the block.

It warned that it had now resolved to institute an action before the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge what it described as the legality and validity of the purported OPL 245 Resolution Agreement, including the restructuring and reallocation of interests in the oil block, as well as any regulatory recognition or implementation of the arrangement.

The proposed suit is to be filed against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Shell Nigeria Ultra-Deep Limited, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, Nigerian Agip Exploration Company Limited, and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Malabu is specifically contesting the reported execution of a Block 245 Resolution Agreement on or about March 5, 2026, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja; the splitting of OPL 245 into four separate assets; and the alleged allocation, transfer or recognition of interests in the block in favour of the oil companies involved.

In its proposed reliefs, the company is asking the court to declare that its rights in OPL 245 remained valid and subsisting as of March 5, 2026, and that it cannot be bound by an agreement to which it was not a party. It is also seeking to nullify the alleged resolution agreement, stop any regulatory action based on it, and restrain all parties from carrying out petroleum operations in the area covered by OPL 245.

Malabu is also demanding N1tn in damages against the defendants jointly and severally for what it described as trespass on its prior exclusive possession rights in the block.

The notice gave the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission 30 days to refrain from taking any step in furtherance of the disputed arrangement, failing which the company said it would proceed to court without further notice.

The fresh legal threat is likely to fuel further controversy around OPL 245, one of Nigeria’s most contentious oil blocks, and may complicate the Federal Government’s attempt to present the matter as finally resolved.

Far from closing the chapter, the latest development suggests that the battle over OPL 245 may be heading into yet another prolonged legal round — with the government’s victory narrative now facing serious challenge from parties still claiming subsisting rights over the asset.

PoliticsUK Complicit In Nigeria’s Woes, Says Timi Frank, Slams Tinubu by Jatuski(op): 9:55am On Mar 19
A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has launched a scathing attack on both the Nigerian and United Kingdom governments over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing state visit, describing it as “insensitive” and “an embarrassment” in the wake of deadly attacks in Maiduguri.

Frank, in a strongly worded statement, accused the UK government of being “complicit” in Nigeria’s challenges, insisting that the timing of the visit, barely 24 hours after reported killings, showed a lack of empathy for grieving Nigerians.

“I wonder how President Tinubu could travel barely 24 hours after people were killed,” Frank said. “At a time when the whole world is expressing concern over the tragedy in Nigeria, he and his retinue of Ministers and top security officials chose to go on a state visit - celebrating and drinking champagne - while Nigerians are dying.”

He described the trip as one that had caused “huge disgrace and embarrassment” for the country, noting that citizens were still mourning victims of violence when government officials were engaged in ceremonial activities abroad.

According to him, the President’s action “clearly shows he does not value Nigerians, particularly those in the North.”

“This act is not just about insensitivity; it shows he does not care. He has effectively abandoned the people to their fate,” Frank stated.

The activist also turned his criticism on the UK, accusing it of demonstrating indifference to Nigeria’s plight by going ahead with the visit and reportedly issuing hundreds of visas to members of the delegation.

“It is a shame and a disgrace that the UK government reportedly issued about 600 visas for this visit. That decision reflects total insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians,” he said.

Frank further expressed disappointment that Charles III has not raised concerns about insecurity and governance issues in Nigeria during the visit.

“We expected the King to ask the right questions - about insecurity, killings, and the situation in Nigeria - but that has not happened,” he said. “By receiving the President at such a time, there is no indication of concern or accountability.”

Drawing comparisons with the United States, he argued that President Donald Trump would have handled the situation differently.

“If this were the United States, tough questions would have been asked. Issues of insecurity, corruption and political instability would have been confronted directly,” Frank added.

He alleged that the visit amounted to an endorsement of governance failures in Nigeria, warning that such international engagements risk legitimising what he described as poor leadership.

“What is being celebrated in the UK is not the progress of Nigeria, but its decline,” he said. “This visit is not in the interest of Nigerians. It is about promoting and legitimising a leader whose record is widely questioned.”

Frank also criticised the composition of the delegation, particularly the presence of top security officials, saying their absence from the country at a critical time amounts to gross dereliction of duty.

“It is unacceptable that key security officials left the country while citizens were being killed, just to attend ceremonial events abroad,” he said.

Looking ahead, the activist urged Nigerians to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Nigerians must prepare to ensure this administration does not return. They must defend their votes and demand credible elections,” he said, expressing fears that there may be attempts to manipulate the electoral process.

He also questioned what he described as the silence of the international community.

“Are they unaware of the bombings, the insecurity and the corruption in Nigeria? Or have they chosen to ignore them?” he asked.

He alleged that the visit has clearly shown that the UK does not care about the plight of Nigerians who are dead and those continuously being terrorised but rather what they may corruptly benefit from Tinubu’s administration is all that seems to matter.

“Besides, the splendour, pomp and pageantry showcased in Windsor Castle amount to a celebration of evil and dancing on the graves of 23 dead and over 100 injured Nigerians in multiple bombings in Maiduguri on Monday evening after Iftar,” he said.

Frank insisted that the actions of the UK government “confirm alignment with the current administration despite its failings,” warning that “posterity will judge all parties involved for their lack of empathy at a time Nigerians are dying.”

EducationCourt Adjourns NAPS’ Multiple Tax Suit, Urges FCTA, AMAC To Seek Dialogue by Jatuski(op): 5:30pm On Mar 18
A Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has adjourned to April 16, 2026, a suit filed by the National Association of Private School Owners (NAPS) against the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) over alleged multiple taxation.

The court, after preliminary proceedings on Wednesday, advised all parties to explore amicable settlement through dialogue, stressing the need for restraint and constructive engagement.

NAPS is challenging what it described as overlapping tax demands imposed on private schools by both the FCTA and area councils, particularly AMAC.

Counsel to the association, Alexander N. Ogbo, told journalists that the dispute stems from institutional overlaps, with both authorities issuing similar levies on schools.

“This overlap is disrupting school operations and creating confusion,” he said.

Ogbo noted that private schools are caught between competing authorities, calling for harmonisation of regulatory responsibilities.

NAPS President, Rukayat Agboola, also urged authorities to streamline directives through a single regulatory body to avoid duplication.

The plaintiffs are seeking court intervention to halt multiple taxation and ensure clarity in regulatory oversight.

Schools Cry Out as Court Hears Multiple Tax Battle Against FCTA, AMAC

Private school owners in Abuja have dragged the Federal Capital Territory Administration and the Abuja Municipal Area Council to court over what they describe as suffocating multiple taxation.

At a sitting on Wednesday, a Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2 adjourned the case to April 16, urging both sides to resolve the matter through dialogue.

The National Association of Private School Owners (NAPS) said its members are being hit with overlapping levies from different government bodies, creating confusion and financial strain.

Lawyer to the group, Alexander N. Ogbo, said schools are now trapped between “two authorities demanding the same payments.”

“When two elephants fight, the grass suffers — and the schools are the grass,” he said.

NAPS President, Rukayat Agboola, warned that excessive charges, including a controversial levy tied to school fees, could cripple private education.

She called for a unified system where schools deal with only one regulatory authority.

School owners also cautioned against treating them as revenue sources, noting their role in education and job creation.

Multiple Taxation Dispute: Court Seeks Dialogue as Private Schools Challenge FCTA, AMAC

A Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has called for dialogue in the growing dispute between private school operators and regulatory authorities over alleged multiple taxation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The court, sitting in Wuse Zone 2, adjourned proceedings to April 16, 2026, while encouraging the National Association of Private School Owners (NAPS), the FCTA, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to pursue an amicable resolution.

At the heart of the dispute is what stakeholders describe as regulatory overlap, with both the FCTA and area councils issuing similar tax and compliance demands to schools.

Counsel to NAPS, Alexander N. Ogbo, argued that the situation reflects a broader institutional conflict requiring policy clarity.

He called for a harmonised framework to eliminate duplication and ensure efficient governance.

NAPS President, Rukayat Agboola, emphasised the need for a centralised regulatory channel, preferably through the Education Secretariat, to coordinate all directives affecting schools.

Observers note that the case highlights longstanding concerns over fragmented regulatory authority in the FCT, with implications for the ease of doing business in the education sector.

Tax War: Abuja School Owners Drag FCTA, AMAC to Court, Judge Calls for Peace Talks

Tension is brewing in Abuja as private school owners have taken the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) to court over multiple taxation.

At a heated session on Wednesday, a Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2 adjourned the case to April 16, urging both parties to embrace dialogue instead of prolonging the legal battle.

The National Association of Private School Owners (NAPS) accused authorities of bombarding schools with multiple levies, creating chaos and threatening their survival.

Their lawyer, Alexander N. Ogbo, did not mince words: “Schools are suffering. They are caught in the middle of a power struggle.”

He likened the situation to “two elephants fighting while the grass suffers.”

NAPS President, Rukayat Agboola, warned that the burden of excessive taxation could force schools to shut down or pass costs to parents.

School operators also raised alarm over a controversial levy tied to students’ fees, describing it as exploitative.

They are now asking the court to stop what they call a “tax assault” and compel authorities to streamline their demands.

BusinessCustoms FOU Zone ‘B’ Cracks Down On Smugglers Of Endangered Species by Jatuski(op): 9:53pm On Mar 17
*Unit intercepts live pangolins along Kano–Jigawa axis

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’, has intercepted two live pangolins being illegally transported along the Kano–Jigawa axis.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the CPRO FOU Zone B, CSC NA Saidu, made available on Tuesday.

It informed that the arrest occurred on March 12, 2026 at about 10:00 hours. Operatives of the Unit, during a stop-and-search operation, flagged down the vehicle as part of a proactive enforcement sweep.

The seizure was effected pursuant to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), an international agreement that prohibits trade threatening the survival of wild species.

Upon interception, the animals were secured in appropriate cages and conveyed to the FOU Zone ‘B’ headquarters in Kaduna. Physical examination showed each pangolin weighed approximately 15 kg.

The Comptroller of the Unit, Comptroller Aminu Sule, has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the source and intended destination of the endangered species.

He stated: “This seizure sends a clear message that Zone ‘B’ will not be a transit point for wildlife traffickers.”

Pangolins are among the most trafficked mammals in the world; the interception underscores the Unit’s commitment to combating illegal wildlife trade.

The Nigeria Customs Service remains vigilant in enforcing environmental laws and international treaties to protect Nigeria’s biodiversity.

PoliticsTinubu: APC Support Groups Council Endorse Yari’s Renewed Hope Network by Jatuski(op): 8:34pm On Mar 17
As Nigerians await the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to lift ban on political campaign, about one thousand five hundred (1,500) registered support groups of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has endorsed The Renewed Hope Network (TRN) as a Special Purpose Vehicle established to galvanize robust and broad-based grassroots support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential elections.

In a statement signed in Abuja by the Deputy Director General of the APC Support Groups Council, Dr. AK Peter's, said the decision was taken after a strategic meeting with the tecnical team of the TRN led by a seasoned APC mobilizer and a former Senior Special Assistant to the APC National Chairman on Civil Society and Support Groups, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi and an international diplomat, Prof. Tunji John Asaolu.

Peters expressed confidence in the growing momentum of TRN nationwide.

The TRN is powered by the former Governor of Zamfara state and senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari as a major platform for grassroot mobilization ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

The statement said as part of its early strategic activities, the Renewed Hope Network has commenced mobilization of Polling Unit Canvassers across all polling units in Nigeria, laying the groundwork for effective grassroots engagement ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

"The level of acceptability of TRN by Nigerians is unprecedented and the APC Support Groups Council can not be left out."

According to him, the Renewed Hope Network has already put in place a comprehensive structures and strategies aimed at ensuring a resounding victory for President Tinubu in 2027.

“The TRN is committed to building the most formidable grassroots political movement in support of Mr. President within a very short time while networking every corner of the Country.

"In APC, we have over three thousand five hundred (3,500) registered support groups out of which one thousand five hundred (1,500) have approved partnership with The Renewed-Hope Network (TRN).

"We are confident that another 2,000 groups will join the network between now and Easter,” Ak Peters stated.

According to the statement, the APC Support Groups Council leader emphasised the quality of leadership being provided by Senator Abdulaziz Yari, adding that The RenewedHope Network remains the only hope for grassroots mobilizations across the country.

He said no effort will be spared in mobilizing Nigerians toward ensuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is sworn in for a second term on May 29, 2027 as far as Senator Yari is involved.

PoliticsMaiduguri Carnage: Tinubu’s UK Trip Callous, Frank Berates Britain, Praises Trum by Jatuski(op): 1:15pm On Mar 17
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Tuesday, took a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the President’s planned state visit to the United Kingdom on the heels of renewed bombings in Maiduguri, as “callous, indefensible and morally bankrupt.”

In a detailed statement on Tuesday, Frank said the coordinated explosions that ripped through Maiduguri on Monday evening - including near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the main market and the post office - exposing civilians to mass casualties - are “a tragic, blood-soaked verdict on a failing security architecture.”

Quoting official figures, he said no fewer than 23 Nigerians were killed and over 100 injured in the attacks blamed on suspected suicide bombers, warning that the country is “bleeding while its leadership is distracted.”

“This is not just another attack - it is a national emergency,” Frank declared. “Our people are being slaughtered, our soldiers are under relentless assault, yet the President is preparing for a ceremonial outing in UK. That is not leadership; that is abdication of responsibility.”

He demanded the immediate cancellation of the UK trip, insisting that any departure from Nigeria at such a moment would amount to “a cruel abandonment of grieving citizens.”

“No responsible leader boards a plane to wine, dine and dance when his country is burying its dead,” he said. “A President with empathy goes to Maiduguri, not London. He stands with victims, not with banquet hosts.”

Frank widened his attack to the British government, accusing it of “staggering hypocrisy and moral blindness” for extending the invitation in the first place.

“The UK is not ignorant of Nigeria’s reality,” he said. “It knows about the escalating insecurity, the mass unemployment strangling millions, and the catastrophic electricity crisis that has crippled industries. It is also aware of deepening concerns over democratic backsliding - a National Assembly and judiciary many believe have been weakened and silenced, and a political system tilting dangerously towards a one-party state.”

“Yet, in the face of all this, Britain rolls out the red carpet. That is not diplomacy - it is complicity. It is a celebration in the face of tragedy.

“It is also aware of growing concerns about the state of democracy, including allegations that Nigeria is drifting towards a one-party system under Tinubu, with both the National Assembly and judiciary weakened and silenced.”

Frank said the timing of the visit sends “a dangerous and insulting signal” that Nigerian lives are expendable and governance failures can be overlooked for the sake of ceremonial photo opportunity.

He added: “We challenge the UK to provide ten reasons that justify this honour at a time like this. To many Nigerians, this invitation appears to be a subtle endorsement of a second term, despite widespread concerns about governance and the credibility of the last election.”

Drawing comparisons, he noted that if a similar level of violence occurred in the UK, its leaders would very much suspend ceremonial engagements and focus on national security.

He also condemned what he described as an “obscene and indefensible convoy of power” accompanying the President, calling it proof of a government “detached from pain and addicted to excess.”

According to him, the delegation includes Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu.

Also listed are Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani; and Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd).

He added that National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed, are equally part of the entourage.

“At a time of mass burials and national grief, what possible justification exists for ferrying such a large retinue of officials abroad?” Frank queried. “This is not governance — it is extravagance in the face of suffering.”

Frank further alleged that Nigeria’s anti-terror war has been fatally weakened by corruption and internal sabotage, claiming that resources and military hardware meant to defeat insurgents are being diverted.

“It is an open secret that mismanagement and corruption have crippled our security response. There are disturbing reports of weapons meant for our troops finding their way into the hands of terrorists. Yet, the government continues to act as though all is well,” he said.

He urged the international community to fundamentally rethink its engagement with Nigeria, warning that uncritical support risks emboldening failure rather than solving the crisis.

In sharp contrast, Frank reserved rare praise for U.S. President Donald Trump, commending what he described as a “clear-eyed and decisive posture” toward Nigeria’s security challenges.

“While some global actors prefer ceremonies and silence, Trump has demonstrated a willingness to stand firmly with Nigeria in confronting terrorism. That is the kind of principled support Nigerians respect,” he said.

Frank told the Presidency: “that Nigeria is in mourning. This is a moment for leadership, compassion and decisive action - not foreign trips, not pageantry, not political theatre. Any President who chooses celebration over solidarity at a time like this has lost the moral right to lead.”

BusinessEMIS Confirms Investors Allegations Of FCMB Holding Onto Company's Funds by Jatuski(op): 7:08am On Mar 16
Following an allegation by two investors of EM-International Systems (EMIS) Nigeria Limited
National Wireless Telephone Operators, that a commercial bank, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) is holding on to funds belonging to the firm, EMIS Company Secretary, Chidozie Nwandu has confirmed that.

He confined this in an Executive Media Brief made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday March 15, 2026.

He recalled that in 1994, Mr. Emeka Onwuegbuzia, a Nigerian/American Citizen, returned to Nigeria from the United States (after having been resident in the USA for over twenty years), with the intention of establishing a Telecoms Company in Nigeria, using the expertise he had acquired from working in the United States, at some of America's most prestigious Corporations, such as the erstwhile Rockwell International and Northrop Grumman Corporation.
"He eventually set up EM-
International Systems (EMIS Telecoms) Limited, as a pioneer indigenous fixed wireless
telephone company, based in Lagos, Nigeria.

"His Company which had already commenced operations, with thousands of subscribers, later approached the African Export Import Bank (AFREXIM) based in Cairo, Egypt, for a five million dollar loan facility, to enable EMIS purchase Phase 2 telecommunications equipment to expand its existing network.

"AFREXIM had explained
that not having being in business for up to five years, EMIS could not benefit directly from an AFREXIM Facility, but could come through one of its local correspondent banks to acquire the AFREXIM Facility and suggested First City Monument Bank PLC. (FCMB) for that purpose.

"EMIS thereafter, proceeded to discuss the details of the transaction with FCMB and came to the mutual agreement that: FCMB would assume the role of lender to EMIS Telecoms and guarantor to AFREXIM on behalf of EMIS for the five-million-dollar facility from AFREXIM.

EMIS and FCMB then signed a Loan Agreement, which, among others, demanded an All-Assets Debenture over EMIS' assets to be made in favour of FCMB.

"All incoming revenue from EMIS current subscribers would be domiciled with FCMB as the sole collecting bank.

"Authority to make any disbursement from the AFREXIM Facility would be vested in FCMB.

"EMIS to issue eight Promissory Notes valued at $500,000 each, in favour of COMDEV International of Canada; the equipment supplier.

"All of the foregoing conditions were agreed upon and EMIS thereafter, formally wrote to the
President of AFREXIM bank, to deduct the sum of $140,000 from the $5m Facility and pay same
to FCMB as a Facility Management fee.

"Also, EMIS agreed that $280,000 be likewise deduct and paid to AFREXIM as a Facility Management fee. In consequence of the foregoing therefore, the physical cash available for the actual purchase of telecommunications equipment, installation and activation was the sum of $4.58m," the company secretary infotmed.

He explained that after the foregoing had transpired, FCMB, AFREXIM and COMDEV International, entered into a Tripartite Note Purchase Agreement, which spelt out in detail, how the $4.58m would be paid to the Equipment Supplier; COMDEV International of Canada, along with the conditions precedent to draw down of the Facility.

"It is noteworthy that for some strange reasons best known to FCMB and AFREXIM Bank, they completely excluded EMIS Telecoms from being part of this
PURCHASE AGREEMENT.
Clause 4 of the Tripartite Note Purchase Agreement stated the specific requirement of "obtaining
evidence or certificates showing that all consents, licenses, approvals, registrations and
authorizations" which are required from relevant monetary (Central Bank of Nigeria; CBN) and
other authorities, have been fully obtained. Regardless of all these conditions spelt out in the Agreement, FCMB proceeded to
wire out to COMDEV International, the total loan sum of $4.58m, within 24hrs of signing the
Tripartite Agreement.

"This especially reckless and fraudulent act was the critical turning point, making any hopes of achieving success in this transaction completely unachievable. It must be
stated that the sum of $4.58m represented both cost of equipment, and cost of installation and activation of the equipment, which costs were represented in two separate invoices from the
Equipment Supplier, COMDEV International.

"This clarification is necessary to underscore the ill-motive that persuaded FCMB to pay out the same invoices together in one fell swoop.

"After FCMB had fraudulently paid out the entire loan sum of $4.58m to COMDEV International, COMDEV absconded with the money and never supplied any telecommunications equipment.

"EMIS consequently raised the alarm with AFREXIM, FCMB etc., pointing to the Supply Agreement provision of a functional Phase 2 network to be operational within 120 days, in order to begin generating revenue for the repayment of the loan.

"Neither AFREXIM nor FCMB took any action to compel COMDEV to comply with its obligations under the Tripartite Note Purchase
Agreement, to which EMIS was not a signatory. Following the failure of both AFREXIM and FCMB
to take punitive action against COMDEV, EMIS proceeded to file a lawsuit against FCMB to
recover its funds in the bank's custody, for damages and loss of revenue, for the botched
COMDEV transaction.

"EMIS diligently prosecuted the case against FCMB in court until the constant deliberate delays, frequent substitution of counsel etc. by FCMB, made it more prudent to additionally directly petition the apex financial regulator, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

"The CBN set up a team of examiners who came to EMIS' and FCMB offices in Lagos in the course of their investigations and were given all necessary documents and information to assist with their investigation.

"The CBN investigators eventually submitted their findings in a report dated 10th July 2012. CBN report of 10th July 2012. Clause 8 of the CBN report stated as follows,
"The CBN foreign exchange manual stipulates that a Certificate of Capital Importation (CCI) be
processed and issued for foreign exchange (FX) inflow for loans, investment purposes etc. to
enable repatriation of such funds, this was not observed." Clause 9 went on to say that, "FCMB'S,
Foreign Exchange Dealership License was suspended by the CBN at the material time, with the
aim of preventing the bank from accessing the FX market under whatever guise.

"However, as a means of subverting the suspension, the bank resorted to raising cheques in Naira, in favour of AFREXIM, for onward remittance of its USD equivalent through First Bank PLC., thus breaching another regulatory guideline, which stipulates that any bank so suspended but desirous
meeting its International Payment Obligations, should first obtain CBN approval to use another bank with a valid and subsisting license to access the FX market." Clause 10 of the same report stated as follows, "you breached your fiduciary duty to your customer by exhibiting utmost bad
faith in the way and manner the transaction was handled in its entirety."

"The CBN report continued with the following directives, "consequent upon the above, you are
directed as follows:
a. Account for and refund the total sum of N574,401,405.02 being the total amount of subscription fees received by FCMB on behalf of EMIS as the direct custodian.
b. Forward statement of account number 1000301671253 to the petitioner.
c. Reverse the upfront bank charges and pay interest earned on the investments and
d. Tender a written and unconditional apology to the customer."

"When EMIS subsequently tried to get the CBN to act on the findings of its report, CBN suddenly
started delaying and obfuscating, a reaction we later discovered was caused by the fact that FCMB was massively putting all kinds of pressures on the CBN officials, to prevent giving effect
to the punitive measures prescribed in their report. Frustrated by the CBN's inaction, EMIS petitioned the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria at the time;
President Muhammadu Buhari, who directed the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation
(AGF); Abubakar Malami SAN, to handle the case.

"Following receipt of the CBN report of 10th July 2012, EMIS' accountants have since kept a meticulous record of how much FCMB owes EMIS to date, based on figures derived from the said CBN report and account statements
provided by FCMB, as directed in the report.

"The final tally as at 31st December 2024 is contained in our
Accountant's report dated 14th February 2025," the secretary said.

Politics‎ADC: A Contraption On Death Knell Punctuated By Internal Contradictions ‎ by Jatuski(op): 7:35am On Mar 15
‎By Aminu Wali

‎The political arrangement currently driving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the influence of David Mark, BD Lawal, Atiku Abubakar and Kashim Imam is fast turning the party into a legal and political time bomb that could ultimately disqualify it from sponsoring candidates in the 2027 general elections.

‎What was initially presented as a coalition platform for opposition forces now increasingly resembles a fragile political structure built on manipulation, opaque deals and the systematic erosion of internal democracy. Rather than nurture a transparent and credible national platform, the small circle of power brokers steering the party has instead concentrated authority within a tightly controlled network that serves narrow personal ambitions.

‎The leadership style dominating the party has been characterised by calculated manoeuvres, the sidelining of established party structures and a persistent disregard for the party’s constitution. In place of open competition and inclusive decision-making, the ADC’s emerging command structure appears determined to micro-manage the party machinery from the centre.

‎This concentration of power has raised alarm among observers who argue that the coalition leaders have effectively turned the party into a private political estate. Rather than strengthening party institutions at the grassroots, they are accused of weaponising the party’s constitution by setting up questionable committees designed to weaken or bypass existing structures at the state, local government and ward levels.

‎The purpose of these manoeuvres appears unmistakable: to secure complete control of the party ahead of the 2027 primaries.

‎By sidelining legacy structures and consolidating authority within a small circle of loyalists, the coalition leadership may believe it has effectively sealed the party’s internal processes. But in doing so, it may also have planted the seeds of a legal crisis capable of tearing the party apart.

‎Against this backdrop, one of the most puzzling developments in Nigeria’s opposition politics remains the decision by Peter Obi to align himself with the ADC.

‎Obi commands an enormous grassroots following across Nigeria and remains one of the most recognisable figures within the opposition space. Many analysts therefore expected him to spearhead the formation of a fresh national coalition built on transparency, inclusiveness and broad regional collaboration.

‎Instead, he has entered a political arena that critics increasingly describe as dominated by entrenched northern power brokers and veterans of Nigeria’s old political order.

‎The question many observers continue to ask is straightforward: why would a politician with such national appeal submit himself to a structure whose internal mechanisms appear tightly controlled by political actors with their own strategic priorities?

‎Some analysts believe Obi may have walked into what is effectively a carefully constructed political trap — a structure designed from the outset to channel his popularity into a pre-determined power arrangement that leaves him with little negotiating leverage.

‎The possibility that such a strategy could ultimately position him as a vice-presidential candidate rather than a presidential contender has become a recurring topic within political circles.

‎Equally perplexing is the role of Rotimi Amaechi in the unfolding drama.

‎Amaechi is widely regarded as a seasoned political strategist with extensive experience navigating Nigeria’s complex power dynamics. Yet reports suggest he has committed significant financial resources to the ADC project despite mounting evidence that the party’s internal arithmetic may not favour his ambitions.

‎For Amaechi, the political pathway inside the party appears uncertain at best.

‎The coalition’s northern leadership reportedly assures him that the primaries can be “delivered,” but political signals emerging from within the party suggest that key structures may already be locked in ways that limit his prospects.

‎In effect, Amaechi may be investing heavily in a political structure whose outcomes have already been quietly predetermined.

‎While these internal manoeuvres continue, a far more serious threat looms over the party — one that could render the entire project politically irrelevant.

‎Reliable political intelligence indicates that a Federal High Court judgment connected to the ongoing political disputes involving Nyesom Wike may soon invalidate the current National Working Committee of the ADC led by David Mark.

‎If the court rules against the existing leadership structure, the consequences for the party could be immediate and devastating.

‎Sources familiar with the unfolding situation suggest that Nafiu Bala may emerge from the legal ruling as the legitimate National Chairman of the party.

‎Such a judgment would instantly delegitimise the Mark-led leadership and trigger a chain reaction within the party’s organisational structure.

‎Indeed, reports indicate that as many as thirty-five ADC state chairmen, along with the leadership of the Federal Capital Territory chapter, are already preparing to publicly recognise Bala as the rightful national chairman once the ruling is delivered.

‎Within hours of the court decision, these officials are reportedly prepared to convene a joint press conference announcing their allegiance to the new leadership.

‎Should this occur, the existing command structure built by the Mark-led coalition would collapse almost overnight.

‎The implications for the party’s electoral future would be severe.

‎A leadership crisis unfolding at such a scale would plunge the ADC into immediate litigation, factional battles and administrative paralysis — precisely the kind of turmoil that has historically crippled Nigerian political parties on the eve of major elections.

‎If the crisis erupts before the party’s primaries begin, the ADC could find itself entering the 2027 electoral cycle fractured and legally entangled.

‎And Nigerian political history offers a stark warning about what happens to parties that approach elections under such conditions.

‎A political organisation trapped in leadership litigation rarely survives the ballot.

‎The experience of the Peoples Democratic Party during its internal conflicts remains one of the clearest examples. Prolonged factional battles weakened the party’s structures, eroded public confidence and ultimately reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape.

‎Today, the ADC appears to be drifting toward a similar fate — only at a far more accelerated pace.

‎What was once marketed as a unifying coalition for opposition forces is now showing signs of internal decay even before its electoral ambitions fully take shape.

‎If the looming court ruling triggers the expected leadership upheaval, the party may enter 2027 not as a formidable opposition platform but as a fractured organisation struggling to establish legal legitimacy.

‎By the time the dust finally settles, Nigeria’s opposition politics may be forced to confront an uncomfortable question:

‎Who exactly walked into the trap — and who carefully designed it in the first place?

BusinessIntelligence: Customs Comptroller General Commissions Analytics Centre At Apapa by Jatuski(op): 10:02am On Mar 11
In the quest to enhance regulatory compliance, strengthen risk management frameworks, facilitate legitimate trade and optimise revenue assurance mechanisms, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, on Tuesday, officially commissioned an analytics centre at the Apapa Customs Command to generate actionable intelligence.

The Customs CG said that the importance of data in any modern Customs administration, cannot be over emphasised, saying that data is the new currency of international trade and international business.

“And we value data a lot because it is the backbone of our risk management engine. And we cannot pretend to have a modern Customs administration if we do not have credible data to support it and drive it into operations.

“Virtually every project that we embark upon using ICT is driven by data. If we are doing an AEO program for compliance, we need a data upgrade to do it. If we want to do selectivity, we need data to do it. “If we want to create several indicators for risk, we need data to do it. And this is the direction in which all international Customs administrations all over the world are moving. This is the direction in which other organisations are moving, and this is why I believe that these facilities will be very instrumental in driving our operations,” he said.

He commended the Customs Area Controller, who sprinted to Abuja as he had prepared him to have the motivation to embark on this kind of project.

“I commend you and your team of officers who have worked on this project, and I believe that we are going to put this project to use. I encourage all of you officers, that the intelligence that we are going to derive from the analysis of this data should be put into our operations.

“I also encourage our state leaders that we are going to be working with partner government agencies to trust us and believe that the decisions that we are taking are going to be driven by the intelligence that we get from the analysis inside these facilities. And this is not just about data. The educated are behind us.

“For those of you who are familiar with this side of the CPC, you know that there was next to nothing here apart from the car park. So this is something that is coming from the robots that used to exist inside this place. And now we are coming with a facility that will drive Customs operations, that will drive the welfare of officers, and of course, that will reposition the Nigeria Customs Service as a modern customs administration.

“So this indeed is very, very remarkable, and I congratulate all officers and men of the command, and of course all officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service who will be using this project,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, said the command is flagging off a new era of intelligence Customs operations and improving the welfare of the officers.

“The magnificent story building we see today, proudly named CGC Adewale Adeniyi Analytical Arena, has been designed as the futuristic data-driven, including the state-of-the-art analytics of excellence, the Customs intelligence unit, the command’s clinic will ensure the well-being of the officers and personnel, another key strategic office,” he said.

He said this infrastructure is the vision of the CGC leveraging on modern technology and analytics to facilitate legitimate trade.

PoliticsGumi: Timi Frank Urges Trump To Halt Security Cooperation With Nigeria by Jatuski(op): 8:22am On Mar 11
A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Wednesday, urged the United States government and President Donald Trump to halt intelligence sharing and security cooperation with the Nigerian government, citing recent comments attributed to Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi on banditry and terrorism.

Frank who made the call in a statement issued in Abuja, said the remarks credited to Gumi suggesting that Nigerian authorities may know the identities and locations of bandits raise serious questions about the handling of insecurity in the country.

“If it is true that the government knows the names of these bandits, knows where they are located and even knows their camps, then Nigerians deserve to know why decisive action has not been taken,” he said.

He argued that the continued rise in kidnappings and killings across the country suggests that insecurity has escalated despite claims that security agencies possess intelligence about those responsible.

According to him, the continued deterioration of security despite international support raises suspicion that insecurity may be benefiting some individuals, alleging that insecurity in the country has become a “profitable business” for some actors within the system.

“Kidnappings have increased. Killings have escalated. Insecurity has worsened across the country. If a government truly knows the identities and locations of terrorists and bandits yet fails to act decisively, then that raises serious concerns,” he said.

He added: “They want the insecurity to persist because as long as insecurity continues in the country, it's an opportunity for them to rig the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

“They don’t care about Nigerians that are dying. They don’t care about Nigerians that are being kidnapped. They don’t care about the well-being of the people. They don't care about the suffering of the people. They don't care about good governance. All they care about is how they will rig themselves back to power using insecurity as cover.”

He urged the United States to exercise caution in its dealings with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the area of intelligence while asserting that “the government of today appears to be friends with terrorists.”

“I am calling on the United States government to be very careful in its dealings with the current Nigerian administration. The U.S. should suspend intelligence sharing and security cooperation with the Nigerian government and its security chiefs,” he said.

The activist alleged that despite the security assistance Nigeria has received from international partners, the situation on the ground has continued to deteriorate.

“There appears to be a pattern where the government continues to receive security assistance and aid from the United States and other international partners, yet insecurity keeps worsening,” he said.

He said Nigerian soldiers were still losing their lives in the fight against insurgency and banditry despite military equipment and support provided by foreign partners.

“Today, Nigerian soldiers are dying in large numbers despite the equipment and support provided by the United States and other countries. With the level of support Nigeria has received, the war against insecurity should have made significant progress,” he said.

The activist called on President Trump to take decisive steps against terrorist groups operating in Nigeria and act independently if necessary.

“We are appealing directly to President Donald Trump to take a strong and decisive stand. If the United States truly wants to help Nigeria defeat terrorism and make the country great again, it should be prepared to act firmly against the terrorists responsible for the violence,” he said.

He added that such actions should not depend solely on cooperation with Nigerian authorities.

“The United States should be ready to take bold steps in confronting terrorist networks threatening Nigeria, even if it means acting independently like it did on Christmas eve against those responsible for the violence,” he said.

Frank who currently serves as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East as well as Senior Advisor to the Global Friendship City Association (GFCA), USA, also called on the United States Congress to pay closer attention to developments in Nigeria and support measures that would address insecurity and strengthen democratic processes.

He further urged the United States to support credible democratic processes in Nigeria, noting that free and fair elections would help strengthen governance and stability.

According to him, decisive international engagement could help address the security challenges facing the country and support efforts to restore stability.

“If the United States truly wants to assist Nigeria, it should help ensure peace, security and credible democratic processes. That is how Nigeria can move forward and become stable and prosperous again,” he said.

He added that strong international support could help Nigeria overcome insecurity and rebuild confidence in governance.

“With the right actions and international support, Nigeria can defeat terrorism, restore stability and move toward a future where the country can truly become great again,” he said.

BusinessInvestors Cry Out, Say Over N50bn EMIS Telecoms Funds Trapped In FCMB by Jatuski(op): 2:21pm On Mar 08
Some investors have cried out that their funds have been trapped in the First City Monument Bank (FCMB), for several years, a development they said, could discourage foreign investors from being attracted to Nigeria.

They alleged that the trapped funds as at 2025, was worth over N50 billion Naira, thereby calling on relevant government agencies to intervene and secure their investments, to boost confidence of foreign investors.

In a statement made available to newsmen, two of EMIS’ US based investors; Mr. Alphonsus Ayetin and Mr. Phillip Njowusi, both confirmed that the total debt owed to EMIS by FCMB to date, is in excess of fifty billion Naira.

In the statement titled, "Justice Delayed Is Investment Denied: A Diaspora Dream Betrayed in Nigeria", they said, "In 1994, after more than two decades in the United States working at world-class firms such as Rockwell International and Northrop Grumman Corporation, Nigerian-American entrepreneur Emeka Onwuegbuzia returned home with a bold idea: build one of Nigeria’s first indigenous fixed wireless telecom companies."He founded EM-International Systems (EMIS Telecoms) in Lagos at a time when reliable phone service in Nigeria was scarce and demand was exploding. EMIS quickly gained thousands of subscribers.

"To expand its network, the company sought a $5 million facility from the Cairo-based African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM).Because EMIS had not yet met AFREXIM’s five-year operating requirement, it was advised to access the loan through a local correspondent bank.

"That bank was First City Monument Bank (FCMB). What follows is a case study in how weak governance, regulatory failures and institutional delay can destroy not just a company, but faith in a nation’s investment climate. The Deal That Collapsed.

"Under the agreement, FCMB would act as lender to EMIS and guarantor to AFREXIM. EMIS pledged an all-assets debenture, domiciled subscriber revenues with FCMB, and authorized the bank to manage disbursements. Eight promissory notes of $500,000 each were issued in favour of the Canadian supplier, COMDEV International.

"After fees were deducted by both AFREXIM and FCMB, $4.58 million remained available for equipment purchase, installation and activation."A Tripartite Note Purchase Agreement was executed among AFREXIM, FCMB and COMDEV. Notably, EMIS — the borrower whose future depended on the funds — was excluded from this agreement.

"The contract required evidence of regulatory approvals, including compliance with Nigeria’s foreign exchange rules. "Yet within 24 hours of signing, FCMB wired the entire $4.58 million to COMDEV — covering both equipment and installation — despite conditions precedent that had not been satisfied. COMDEV allegedly absconded. No equipment was delivered. No network was built. No revenue was generated. The expansion that would have secured repayment and sustained growth never materialized. EMIS petitioned regulators. What the Regulators Found"In a July 10, 2012 report, Nigeria’s Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) found that required Certificates of Capital Importation had not been processed and that FCMB had breached foreign exchange guidelines during a period when its FX dealership license was suspended.

"The CBN concluded that the bank had exhibited “utmost bad faith” and directed FCMB to refund subscription fees it held as custodian, reverse charges, pay accrued interest and issue an unconditional letter of apology. Separately, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a criminal investigation," the statement said. It explained that in its April 28, 2017 report, the EFCC concluded that EMIS had been systematically defrauded and recommended prosecution for conspiracy, fraud and corporate negligence.

"These were not media allegations. They were findings of Nigeria’s apex financial regulator and its principal anti-corruption agency.Yet enforcement stalled. Presidential Directives — and Delay. Then-President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Attorney General to address the matter. "The former Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, ordered a criminal investigation and later directed that prosecutions proceed consistent with EFCC findings. Still, implementation faltered.

" Under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu and Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, meetings were convened in late 2024 and early 2025 to review submissions from all parties.

"A final resolution meeting was scheduled for May 2025 — then postponed. No new date has been formally communicated. Nearly three decades after a diaspora entrepreneur returned home to build infrastructure, the matter remains unresolved," the statement submitted.

They alleged that the situation led to the untimely demise of the EMIS founder.

"This is not merely a corporate dispute. The stress of the protracted battle took a devastating toll. "Mr. Onwuegbuzia suffered a second stroke and died in February 2021. His wife passed away less than two years later.

"They left behind three daughters, unpaid workers and American investors — family members and partners — who had believed in a dream of nation-building. Their story carries implications far beyond one company.

"Nigeria, like many developing economies, regularly calls on its diaspora to invest back home. Governments tout opportunity, patriotism and reform. But capital flows where contracts are enforced, regulators act decisively and political influence does not override due process," they said.

When contacted by newsmen for comments over the development, EMIS Company Secretary, Chidozie Nwandu, promised to prepare an executive media brief on the development, which was yet to be made available as at time of filing this report.

He however, confirmed the alleged funds withheld at FCMB.

When the Corporate Affairs/Media Relations Manager, FCMB, Rafiu Mohammed was contacted over the development on phone, his end of the line went silent.

Efforts were made for several days to reach him via phone calls and messages to his WhatsApp line; he is yet to reply to the messages or return calls as at time of filing this report.

Politics‎ADC Coalition: Scam Packaged By Democratic Undertakers by Jatuski(op): 2:41pm On Mar 06

‎By Aminu Wali

‎Let us speak the truth without fear or apology. The so-called coalition being packaged around the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is fast turning into another carefully designed booby trap for desperate opposition members.

‎Anyone still investing hope in this structure should think twice. The same political actors who buried the People's Democratic Party (PDP) through betrayal, greed, and backroom deals are now pretending to be the saviors of Nigeria’s opposition.

‎We are talking about individuals like:

‎Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Kashim Imam, B. D. Lawan.

‎These same actors are asymmetrically and systematically destroying ADC from within before it can even stand.

‎Across the country. From Adamawa State to Borno State, Benue State, Lagos State and Cross River State, the signs of a coordinated elite sabotage has become inconspicuously visible.

‎Here is the playbook Nigerians must understand:

‎Step 1: Destroy the party structure

‎Instead of respecting party organs, they create illegal committees for everything, deliberately bypassing legitimate structures of the party.

‎Step 2: Engineer confusion and distrust among members

‎As we can see parallel membership registrations are being conducted across states.

‎Step 3: Conduct parallel congresses

‎Step 4: Conduct parallel primaries in selecting candidates

‎Step 5: Prepare the legal ambush

‎After primaries, rival camps will rush to court with pre-arranged lawsuits.

‎Step 6: Remove strong candidates

‎Popular winners will be disqualified through technical litigation.

‎Step 7: Install weak candidates

‎Weak and unelectable candidates will then be imposed — making victory effortless for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

‎In simple terms:

‎ADC risks becoming a political demolition site before the elections even begin.

‎The tragedy is that ordinary opposition supporters are being emotionally mobilized for a project whose leaders may already have struck quiet political deals with the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

‎Across the 36 states and Abuja, loyalists of these coalition power brokers are being planted as committee chairmen to manufacture: factional crises

‎parallel congresses, fake harmonization exercises, conflicting primaries.

‎The objective is clear: a permanently divided party trapped in endless court cases.

‎Many insiders already know this game.

‎Among the major figures associated with the coalition effort, only Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi appear not to be deeply entangled in this destructive internal arrangement.

‎Final Warning

‎To serious opposition members in Nigeria — especially in Adamawa and other key states, do not wait until the political ship sinks before you jump.

‎ADC, in its current form, risks becoming another controlled opposition project, designed to neutralize dissent while guaranteeing the comfort of the ruling establishment.

‎History is watching.

‎And Nigerians are no longer fools.

‎Let us start considering a viable alternative to this contraption as quickly as possible as the so called coalition members can't be trusted with our destiny.

‎This self-Destructive Path: A Warning to Genuine Opposition Members

‎The ongoing developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition project are increasingly pointing to a deliberate self-destruction of what was supposed to be a credible opposition platform.

‎Committed opposition members across Nigeria — and particularly in Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, Bauchi, Maiduguri, Kano, Lagos and many other states across the federation, must urgently reconsider their involvement in this sinking political ship before they invest further political capital in a structure that appears engineered to fail.

‎The uncomfortable truth is that many of the individuals parading themselves as coalition leaders are the very undertakers who engineered the collapse of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

‎After allegedly striking political bargains with the administration of their long friend Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they now present themselves as champions of opposition politics.

‎Figures such as Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Kashim Imam, and B. D. Lawan are repeatedly bypassing established party structures by setting up ad-hoc and illegal committees on virtually every sensitive issue affecting the party. This systematic sidelining of legitimate structures appears designed to ensure that nothing credible or institutionally legitimate emerges within the ADC.

‎Across multiple states — from Adamawa State to Borno State, Benue State, Lagos State and Cross River State — reports of double and parallel membership registrations are already ongoing.

‎The implications are obvious:

‎After party primaries, rival camps will flood the courts with pre-planned litigation.

‎Court actions will be used to disqualify legitimate winners. Judicial manipulation could be deployed to substitute popular candidates with weak, unelectable ones, giving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) an effortless path to victory.

‎Evidence on the ground strongly suggests that most coalition power brokers are aware of — and possibly complicit in — this arrangement.

‎The pattern is unmistakable:

‎Their loyalists are strategically planted as members of National Working Commitee (NWC) and Zonal Exco's, ad-hoc Committee chairmen and members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to engineer factional crises through:

‎Parallel harmonization exercises,

‎manual membership registrations,

‎Party congresses and ultimately conflicting party primaries.

‎The predictable outcome is a permanently divided party structure, trapped in endless litigation and incapable of presenting a united electoral challenge.

‎Notably, among the major figures involved in the coalition discussions, only Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi appear not to be deeply embedded in this destructive internal design.

‎Conclusion

‎If the current trajectory continues, the ADC coalition risks becoming another political contraption designed not to win elections, but to manage opposition energy while ultimately protecting the ruling establishment.

‎Serious opposition stakeholders must therefore wake up early, reorganize, and refuse to be used in a political chess game whose outcome appears predetermined. This self-Destructive Path: A Warning to Genuine Opposition Members

EducationNgozi Okonja-iweala Gets Rare String Art From ABU by Jatuski(op): 2:58pm On Mar 03
High point of the visit to Ahmadu Bello University by Dr Ngozi Okonja-Iweala to deliver a pre-convocation lecture was the presentation to the distinguished economist of a string art made of her soon after the lecture.

A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, dated Tuesday, March 3, 2026, said that string art is an art form that uses thread stretched across evenly spaced nails to create geometric patterns and eventually detailed images.

In the artwork, which is also called 'pin and thread art', the image of Okonjo-Iweala emerged purely from straight-line geometry.

Okonjo-Iweala was highly excited for the gift which she described as "special and extraordinary".

The string art made of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was created using 230 evenly spaced nails, about 2.3 kilometers of thread, and over 25 hours of stringing.

It was Abdulmalik Ibrahim who did the pin and thread art. And amazingly, the 400 Level student is from the Department of Computer Science, and not Fine Art as many would expect.

In carrying out the artwork, the student first mapped 230 nails evenly around a circular board to ensure symmetry. Then, he used the algorithm-generated sequence from his web app, and traced the thread step by step across those nails.

Each connection is a straight line; but when hundreds of those straight lines over, they form an optical illusion that gradually turns into detailed portrait.

And after over 25 hours of continuous stringing, the final image of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerged purely from straight-line geometry.

Abdulmalik Ibrahim's talent in creative art came into open when he participated in the ABU research fair organised recently as part of the activities marking the institution's 45th convocation.

At the close range, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, didn't seem to appreciate the work until when the student who did it asked him to move back a bit far. And when Prof Ahmed watched the work at far, he now saw the full image of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerged in it.

On the motive behind the work, the maker of the work told the Vice-Chancellor that he wanted it be presented to Okonjo-Iweala as a gift in acknowledgement of her commitment to excellence, integrity, and service to humanity.

And on 30th January, 2026, the artwork was presented to Okonjo-Iweala by His Highness, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, shortly after the pre-convocation lecture she delivered.

She received the souvenir in the presence of the Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, His Majesty, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Achebe, CFR; and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, ABU Governing Council, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR.

Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), was visibly impressed with the gift.

She said she had stopped collecting portraits of her but she accepted the string art made of her by ABU as she said it was "special and extraordinary".

On why as a computer science student making art, Abdulmalik Ibrahim said he had been drawn to art since childhood as he had always loved visual expression.

"Instead of complaining about not studying a 'creative' course, I decided to merge both worlds. During my SIWES period, I stumbled on the works of Petros Vrellis. I studied his process deeply", he said.

He said he built his own web app that generates string sequences, using open-source algorithm as a base.

Ibrahim also said the web app became the tool he used to physically create his artworks.

"For me, programming became the brush, and algorithm became the design process", he stressed.

Ibrahim further stated that he started making art from home for fun and uploaded it on social media, saying that in a short time the work began gaining traction.

For example, Ibrahim said he was recognised by King Ateke and Wizard Chan all in Port Harcourt in Rivers State because of his artworks. This is in addition to gaining recognition from Jesse Pollak, the Chief Executive Officer of Base, he also said.

Abdulmalik Ibrahim said his work equally received visibility within the Polkadot ecosystem, saying that one of his string pieces of Davido generated over one million impressions across social platforms.

APC Stalwart, Danfulani Makes Case For Kaduna Publicity Secretary Role

*Promises Digital Revolution, Seeks Delegates Support

In a move set to reshape the communication dynamics of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, a prominent party stalwart has formally declared his intention to contest the position of State Publicity Secretary.

The aspirant, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, brings a deep history of party service to his candidacy. Born in Mando, Afaka Ward, Igabi Local Government of Kaduna State, Danfulani was SA Northern Media Strategies to the APC Publicity Secretary Mr Lai Mohammed, he is also the founder of the APC at Your Door Campaigns Forum.

He previously served as the North-west Secretary for the GMB Support Group, which campaigned extensively for the late President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Danfulani was also a founding member of the Tinubu Support Organization and is the Convener of the General Christopher Gwabin Musa Support Initiative.

His practical electoral experience includes serving as the Returning Officer for the APC in Afaka ward, Igabi Local Government, during the 2023 Presidential and Gubernatorial elections.

Now holding the traditional title of Sadaukin Garkuwan Keffi/Betara Biu, Danfulani has called upon party leaders, delegates, and critical stakeholders to rally behind his candidacy in the upcoming state congress scheduled for March 3, 2026.

This appeal was contained in a personally signed statement released to the press on Monday, wherein Danfulani outlined his vision for a more robust, strategic, and modern party publicity machinery.

Citing his formidable and unparalleled experience spanning over a decade at the intersection of journalism and practical politics, Danfulani positioned himself as the ideal candidate to articulate and defend the party’s programmes, policies, and achievements.

He argued that this unique blend of skills is precisely what the APC needs to enhance its narrative, engage a broader electorate, and consolidate its gains in the state.

“My extensive background in media practice and deep-rooted involvement in political mobilisation have equipped me with the requisite insight to drive an effective communication strategy for our great party,” the statement read in part. “I understand both the power of the pen and the pulse of the people.”

In a pledge that signals a forward-looking approach, the aspirant promised to revolutionise the party’s media engagement by introducing several innovative digital media strategies if elected.

This proposed digital overhaul aims to leverage social media platforms, data analytics, and targeted content creation to connect with younger demographics, counter misinformation swiftly, and project the APC’s activities with greater clarity and impact.

Political observers note that Danfulani’s entry into the race brings a significant weight of credibility and strategic acumen, bolstered by his extensive grassroots and national campaign experience.

His background underscores deep community ties and respect within traditional circles, a factor considered invaluable for trust-building.

The statement concluded with a confident appeal: “I humbly seek your mandate. With your support, I am committed to serving as a dynamic, proactive, and articulate voice for the APC in Kaduna State, ensuring our story is told accurately, persuasively, and consistently across all media frontiers.”

As the congress date approaches, Danfulani’s candidacy—built on a proven track record of party service and a promise of digital innovation—is poised to be a major point of discussion among party faithful seeking a communicative edge for the elections ahead.

Nairaland General‎ramadan/lent: Diaulhaq Provides Food, Cash To Over 12,000 Muslims, Christians ‎ by Jatuski(op): 12:14pm On Mar 01

‎A leading entrepreneur and renowned philanthropist, Diaulhaq Abubakar, has put in place robust template to ensure no fewer than 12,000 Adamawa residents benefit from his food and cash support to Muslims and Christians during the Ramadan and Lent.

‎Abubakar who doubles as the President of Blue community Africa, a foundation he created to provide humanitarian interventions, skills and life support to the undeserved and less privileged said his action is in deference to God's command of assisting the less privileged during such times.

‎He noted that so far, thousands of families have benefitted from the food and cash donations which he kick-started at the commencement of Ramadan/Lent about ten days ago.

‎Abubakar noted that items being distributed include Rice, sugar, Maggi and cash incentives to the beneficiaries so that they will also observe the acts of worship in a convivial atmosphere especially considering the inclement economic situation of poor families.

‎He noted that over the years, his foundation has equipped thousands of beneficiaries with life skills in the areas of agriculture, ICT, painting and educational pursuit.

‎The philanthropist said the move is aimed at nipping poverty and shoring up productivity along critical windows of human capital development cutting across all demographic strata. He noted that in the present age of hyper-technology, a country that aspires to progress will not emphasize white collar jobs at the expense of blue collar jobs.

‎"We are not only dishing out material empowerment but we do skills training and sensitization. A lot of those we trained have acquired talents and doing excellently well in their various callings.

‎"We are placing a lot of priorities on skills. We have partnered with Indian institute of technology Madras to see how we can engage in knowledge transfer. We have partnered Modibbo Adama University so that we can leverage on the platform to provide lot of skills when it comes to training on any vocation," he said.

PoliticsOtti’s Dictatorial Outburst Against Journalist Unacceptable – APC Chieftain by Jatuski(op): 11:02am On Mar 01
*Says Gov must tender public apology

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has strongly criticised Governor Alex Otti for what he described as his “dictatorial outburst” against a journalist during a recent monthly media briefing in the state.

The APC chieftain asked Governor Otti to tender an unreserved apology to the Journalist and quickly provide answers to the question bothering on accountability asked by the Journalist.

The Abia governor, during a media chat on Friday had described a question directed to him as “irresponsible” and “stupid.”

The governor lashed out at a journalist who identified himself as Chika Nwabueze at the event for asking that, “Your excellency, your administration has received briefs on infrastructure project and reforms, but critics say transparency and inclusive governance need improvement. Can you provide verifiable data showing how your policies have directly improved the standard of living of Abia people?”

Reacting to the development through a statement signed by his media aide, Chiagoziem Enoch, on Sunday in Abuja, Prince Ikonne expressed grave concern over the incident in which Governor Otti reportedly called a journalist “irresponsible” for asking an important questions regarding the measurable impact of his administration on the people of Abia State.

According to Ikonne, the journalist demonstrated courage, professionalism, and boldness by raising issues that directly concern the welfare of Abians.

“That journalist deserves commendation, not condemnation. It takes fearlessness to demand accountability in an environment where public officials appear uncomfortable with scrutiny,” he said.

Ikonne questioned why Governor Otti, as an acclaimed seasoned economist, failed to provide data-backed evidence to demonstrate how his policies have improved the economic conditions of citizens.

“As an economist, is he not supposed to have verifiable statistics and empirical data showing the impact of his government on traders in Ariaria, Abia farmers, and unemployed across the state? Governance is not about rhetoric; it is about measurable outcomes,” he stated.

He further argued that with the huge sums of money accruing to Abia State from federal allocations and internally generated revenue, the government owes citizens transparent, data-driven explanations on how those funds have translated into tangible improvements.

“Have traders experienced lower taxation burdens? Are there job creation opportunities as a result of his policies? Where are the 200 health centers and how many jobs were created?

Ikonne also linked the Governor’s reaction to lingering controversies, including the smart school saga, allegations surrounding recreational centre funds reportedly written off and the photocopy machine error.

He maintained that these issues heighten, rather than diminish, the fact that Otti’s administration is more concerned with social media activity rather than providing verifiable development.

“It is deeply troubling that instead of answering legitimate questions, the Otti resorted to personal attacks. Such conduct mirrors dictatorial tendencies, where dissenting voices are silenced rather than engaged. In a democracy, leaders must tolerate scrutiny,” Ikonne asserted.

He concluded by demanding an immediate public apology from Governor Otti to the journalist involved, and at the same time provide answers to questions asked, adding that failure to do so would further reinforce perceptions of intolerance, authoritarianism and a failed government in the state.

“No leader who believes in democratic accountability should insult a journalist or anyone for asking questions.

"Governor Otti must apologise immediately. His reaction was unbecoming of a public servant and dangerously reminiscent of dictatorial behaviour. Abia deserves transparency, not intimidation,” Ikonne said.

PoliticsInec’s Timetable Shift: Northern Youths Hail Move, Urge National Unity by Jatuski(op): 4:35pm On Feb 28
A coalition of 21 Northern Nigeria youth organisations under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adjusting the timetable for the 2027 General Elections from February to January 2027.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its President, Amb. Abdul Garba Danbature, the group described the decision as a “statesmanlike gesture” that strengthens democratic inclusion and national cohesion.

The youths said the adjustment, reportedly made in consideration of the proximity of the earlier February date to the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, demonstrates administrative foresight and sensitivity to Nigeria’s religious diversity.

According to the statement, the initial schedule could have posed logistical and participatory challenges for Muslim faithful observing the fasting period. “By revising the timetable, INEC has shown commitment to inclusivity and ensured that no segment of the population is inadvertently disadvantaged in exercising its constitutional rights,” the group stated.

The coalition noted that the decision followed appeals by several stakeholders, including the Sultan of Sokoto and the leadership of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, as well as civic organisations across the country. It said the Commission’s responsiveness underscores the importance of constructive public engagement in a democratic system.

The group also defended the leadership of INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, saying the timetable adjustment reflects a balance between firmness in upholding the law and flexibility in accommodating legitimate concerns.

It called on Nigerians who may have expressed reservations about the INEC chairman’s appointment to reconsider their stance and support the Commission’s efforts to deliver credible and peaceful elections in 2027.

The statement further urged political actors and citizens alike to prioritise peace and unity, drawing inspiration from former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, whose advocacy for peaceful democratic transitions was described as enduring.

The youths also referenced the legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello, noting his commitment to unity and cross-cultural engagement across religious and ethnic lines.

They stressed that peaceful coexistence and dialogue remain essential pillars for Nigeria’s democratic consolidation, urging stakeholders — including political parties, civil society organisations, religious institutions and youth groups — to focus on issue-based campaigns and lawful mobilisation ahead of the polls.

“The adjustment of the 2027 election timetable is not a concession to sectional interests but a reinforcement of national equity,” the statement added.

The coalition reaffirmed its confidence in INEC’s leadership and called on Nigerians to prepare for what it described as a peaceful, inclusive and credible electoral process.

Nairaland GeneralUse Sports As Tool To Make Nigeria Better, Uk-based Investor Andishu Tells Media by Jatuski(op): 11:39am On Feb 16
Sports has been described as the best tool that can be used to make Nigeria better, hence sports writers have been tasked to do all within their powers to contribute meaningfully to the country's developemnt by positively educating the masses.

A United Kingdom-based renowned philanthropist, Mr. Moses Ted Andishu, gave the charge, at the weekend, when he was decorated as a National Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), in Kaduna.

"As journalists, use your noble profession to educate the public on the importance of sports, especially with the challenges we're facing in Nigeria.

"When I was growing up in Nigeria, we didn't know, Muslim, Christian, or ethnic differences. Today, there are the several factors that are trying to divide us.

"And I believe that you have got massive tools as sports writers, you know, everybody loves sports.

"So use this tool to make our country better and I know that you always need resources and support to the best of my ability," he admonished.

He emphasised that in sports, all are united, only focusing on the teams or athletes they are supporting.

"You know, sports has no religion, it has no race, it has no language. Let me say our players, we've got players in Germany, they don't speak German. We have two teams, they've got black players and white players.

"You support your team, you I support my team, you're not supporting black or white players, you just support your team.

"So sports is so uniting that we don't explore sports in the best way, as much as we should," he stressed.

He thanked SWAN for finding him worthy to be one of its national patrons, assuring that he would contribute his quota in making the association greater.

"I'm very honoured that you found me worth of this very prestigious honour as a patron. As a person, I find my purpose in life is to serve and be there for others in any way that can come.

"Life is not just about acquiring knowledge, or skills, or networking, if you will. It's about disseminating.

"So I find that very fulfilling and I'm very satisfied when I share my resources, with corporate members or individuals. I go home and sleep well," he said.

According to him, sports is a big thing for him, although based in the UK, he is still involved in grassroots sports there and in Nigeria.

"Even in the UK, I've very, very involved myself in grassroots sports. I'm a patron to WSports, which is a feeder team for clubs.

"So coming here and recognized in my hometown. I will do more, give some support to the association. I will not bring the association's name to disrepute," he assured.

He however, tasked SWAN to always guide him on what to do, since he is now part of the association.

"Guide me, I do not work alone. If there are certain areas that you think I've erred, there are a few of you that I know that can say, 'you do it this way, that might be the right way. And I always give my honest opinion and advice, whether it's taken or not, you know, I am always a phone call and email away," he said.

He added, "Every issue that I have, I can deal with to the best of my ability. As I said, that is my life. My life is of service. I love sports."

In his remarks at the ceremony, SWAN President, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin who led some national and states executive in decorating him as national patron, said that the investiture ought to have been done October last year during the association's 60th anniversary celebration in Abuja.

He informed the new patron that membership of the association goes beyond Nigeria, across the diaspora.

"And we are also a member affiliate to what we refer to as the AIPS, which is the International Sports Press Association, with its headquarters in Switzerland," he said.

Some of the national officers who accompanied the SWAN President on the investiture were the Secretary General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, Ex Officio North West, Idris Malikawa, Special Adviser Media to the President, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, Special Adviser Logistics Joshua Friday, Kaduna State Chairman, Shehu Abdullahi, as well as others.
