Politics / When Things Fall Apart: The End Of Nigeria's Failed Ideology by Jatuski: 8:25pm On Sep 09, 2023
By Amb ALIYU BIN ABBAS

In the annals of African history, Nigeria was once held up as a beacon of hope, a land of promise, and a testament to the possibility of unity in diversity. It was an ideology that fueled the dreams of many, both within and beyond its borders. But today, as we stand on the precipice of a shattered dream, it's become painfully clear that Nigeria, as an ideology, has crumbled.

For years, the Nigerian state has proven itself to be little more than a fiction—a grand illusion that promises prosperity but delivers despair. It's a nation that works remarkably well for the elites and members of the establishment, who continue to thrive amid the chaos. But for the masses, Nigeria is a dystopian nightmare, a never-ending story of unfulfilled promises, and a cruel hoax.

The truth is, the Nigerian dream has devolved into a tragic comedy. With each passing cycle of governance failure, the nation's diaspora community swells as disillusioned citizens seek refuge in foreign lands. They flee the very homeland that should be their sanctuary, driven away by a nightmarish reality where basic services are a luxury, corruption is rampant, and insecurity is the order of the day.

The institutions that should serve as the pillars of a functioning democracy have crumbled under the weight of corruption and incompetence. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Electoral Tribunal, once symbols of hope, have revealed their absolute partiality to the status quo. The facade of free and fair elections has been torn asunder, exposing the deep rot within the Nigerian political system.

The consequences of this institutional decay are far-reaching. The people have lost faith in the electoral process, viewing it as a charade designed to perpetuate the rule of the few at the expense of the many. This disillusionment is not isolated; it's a ticking time bomb that threatens to explode into political upheaval.

The recent years have witnessed movements and protests across Nigeria, driven by a collective frustration with the prevailing order. From the #EndSARS protests to calls for secession, the voices of dissent are growing louder, and they will not be silenced. The people are no longer willing to accept the status quo, and they are demanding a fundamental restructuring of the Nigerian state.

The end of Nigeria as an ideology is not a doomsday prophecy; it's a stark reality that we can no longer ignore. The farce we call Nigeria, with its broken institutions and shattered dreams, cannot endure in its current form. It's time to acknowledge that the old order is crumbling, and it's up to the people to shape a new future.

The way forward is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the Nigerian people have the resilience and determination to chart a different course. It's time to dismantle the broken system and rebuild a Nigeria that works for all its citizens, not just the privileged few. The end of Nigeria as we know it is the beginning of a new chapter—a chapter where the people reclaim their power and rewrite the story of their nation.

Politics / Atiku To PEPC: Explain Why Tinubu's Head Of Legal Team Is On CTC Judgment Copy by Jatuski: 7:38pm On Sep 09, 2023
Former Vice President and the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has challenged the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) to explain to the world "ambiguities around why copies of the judgment bears the header of the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team."

In a statement signed and released on Saturday in Abuja by Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant (Communications) to Atiku Abubakar, said there was no intention to stir up controversy on the matter, "but it is very important that the PEPC should tell Nigerians why they chose to affix the header of the Respondents on the CTC copy of their judgment, whereas the copies that went to the petitioners did not have the same."

Phrank Shaibu said the court must explain Tinubu Legal Team is deemed to be accorded special privileges.

The statement said: "It is very clear that there are many questions begging for answers, including why the PEPC came to the decision to avail the Respondents, especially the Tinubu Legal Team to have a first receipt of the CTC of the judgment before the Plaintiffs.

"The curiosity is more confounding based on the fact that the lead counsel to Atiku and the PDP had pleaded in the open court to have express receipt of the judgment, to which Justice Haruna Tsammani agreed to and promised to make the document available the following day, which was Thursday.

"Nigerians want to know why the PEPC confers special privileges to the Tinubu Legal Team by making them have a first custody of copies of the PEPC judgment, even though it was more urgent for the Petitioners who needed the document in order to cause an appeal to the Supreme Court within 14 days including weekends.

"In the course of delivering its judgement, the PEPC had spoken of the petition it was ruling upon in a vexatious and denigrating language as if it was a crime to bring a case of electoral banditry before the court.

"However, unfolding developments after the court’s ruling elicit suspicions about whether or not the Tinubu Legal Team provided clerical services to the PEPC. Otherwise, how and when did the ‘Tinubu Presidential Legal Team’ creep into a document that was supposed to be the official document of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.

"We need to restate that the ‘Tinubu Presidential Legal Team’ on the top left-hand corner of all the 798 pages is neither a monochrome nor a metadata. It is actually a HEADER, meaning that except for a valid explanation, the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team is the originator of the document. For the purposes of clarity, “a header is text that is placed at the top of a page, while a footer is placed at the bottom of a page. Typically, these areas are used for inserting information such as the name of the document, the chapter heading, page numbers, creation date, and the like.” On the other hand, watermark is “a faint design made in some paper during manufacture that is visible when held against the light and typically identifies the maker of the document.”

"The PEPC must, on its honour if indeed it still has any, clarify why the court chose to put the header of the Tinubu Legal Team on a CTC copy of its judgment document, while the only emblem that should have been on the document is the stamp of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.

"Again, the PEPC must explain why it came to the discretionary decision of having the Respondents have a custody of the judgement earlier in the day on Friday while only making same available to the Petitioners later in the day, and only after the lead counsel to Atiku and PDP had written a second letter (the first was on Thursday) to the court demanding for copies of the judgment.

"Moreover, we have it on good authority that when the PEPC was informed that the CTC copies of the judgment given to the Respondents was already circulating in the public domain with the header of TPLT on it, a further delay was necessitated by the need for it to undertake a laundry of the documents by removing the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team header before handing over same to the lawyers of Atiku.

"Whereas the legal team of the PDP and Atiku have statutory 14 days to prepare its appeal to the Supreme Court, the PEPC had erased 2 days out of that 14 days, no thanks to the PEPC whose Chairman, Justice Tsamani had promised to make available the CTC copy of the judgment to Atiku a day after its judgement was rendered, which ought to have been on Thursday."

While emphasising the need for answers to the posers caused by controversy as the legal challenge shifts to the Supreme Court, Atiku camp said "it will validate suspicions that there were external factors involved in the formulation of the judgment and bring the entire judiciary of Nigeria into disrepute.

"Make no mistake about it. This legal challenge to the electoral banditry of February 25, which has now shifted to the apex court, is not about Atiku. It is indeed our last ditch effort to salvage our country and deepen our democracy. Against the background of the decimation of nearly all of the institutions of state including the Independent National Electoral Commission which dragged us into this quagmire, our intent is to ensure that the judiciary, the last hope of the common man does not go to the dogs."

Nairaland / General / How Can A Church Close To Military Checkpoint Be Attacked By Bandits - CAN by Jatuski: 4:15pm On Sep 08, 2023
*Demands immediate arrest of those responsible for the 'Kamatan Evil Night'

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kaduna State Chapter, has raised concerns on how a church close to a military checkpoint in Zango Kataf Local Government Area was attacked by bandits and set ablaze by the hoodlums.

CAN expressed this in a statement, signed by its Kaduna State Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, made available to our correspondent on Friday September 8, 2023.

"What is disheartening about this particular attack is the fact that the place of attack is just by the Kaduna - Kafanchan Major highway with a Military check point not far from the Parish.

"The Parish is located at the heart of Kamantan town and the attack was carried out at about 8:00pm. This caused us to wonder some more, where is the hope, how much more terrible could the situation get?" CAN wondered.

According to the text of statement on titled, "The Kamantan Evil Night Of September 7, 2023" the umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria said,
"Our hearts are filled with pains at the wake of today 8 September, 2023 with the news of the in our land and against our People at Fadan Kamatan Parish of the Catholic diocese of Kafanchan, Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State.

"It is no longer news that armed men invaded a Catholic Church Parish Headquarters located at Fadan Kamantan community and the criminals targeted the Parish Priest's residence, lucky the Parish Priest, Very, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okolo who also doubles as the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, and his assistant were able to escape out of the house before the criminals set the entire Rectory ablaze burning to death a Seminarian Bro. Naam Ngofe Danladi who is just about completing his training into the Catholic Priesthood".

CAN however, appreciated the willingness of the present administration to proffer practical, real and lasting solution to the security challenge in Kaduna State as made visible by the ongoing recruitment process of over 7,000 men and women into the Kaduna State Vigilante Services (KADVIS).

"In the light of sharing in the faith of the perceived good will of the present administration in Kaduna State, we invite the Governor of Kaduna State and all relevant stakeholders to immediately swing into action and ensure that those responsible for the Kamatan Evil Night are apprehended and made to face the law.

"Security is everyone's business, it is disappointing that this kind of unholy activity could be recorded at the heart of Fadan Kamantan community and the criminals will operate unchallenged. It is a slap to the security forces within that jurisdiction, it is a slap to the religious leaders, traditional and community leaders.

"The position of CAN Kaduna State Chapter has always been that we as citizens must complement government in her Primary responsibility of saving our lives and properties by proactively building a community security system that prevents any form of invading force into our community, sadly we are still here. We reiterate again here, that leaders at all levels in southern Kaduna and Kaduna State must wake up to this call and be responsible for the protection of the communities where the live and lead. We cannot continue like this, no it is unacceptable and we all must wake up to our responsibilities," the statement advised.

It noted that the Executive of CAN Kaduna State Chapter and indeed all Christians in Kaduna State sincerely sympathize with the chief shepherd and local ordinary of Kafanchan Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Julius Kundi, the Parish Priest and Parishioners of Kamatan Parish, the Kurama Community of Bro. Naam Ngofe Danladi, the leaders and the good people of Zangon Kataf LGA and Fadan Kamantan community over this unfortunate incident.

"We pray that the good Lord will heal our land and bring this menace to an end," CAN prayed.

Nairaland / General / Timi Frank To Shettima: Only God Can Retire Atiku, Not Man by Jatuski: 3:46pm On Sep 08, 2023
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Friday, told Vice President Kashim Shettima that no man can retire the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, from politics in the country, except God.

Frank reacted to a delusional statement by Shettima where he boasted that he would “retire Atiku and teach him how to rear goats and boilers” following the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court on petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

He said: “Shettima should know that one with God, as they say, is majority. Atiku has the majority and this is why Nigerians did not jubilate nor celebrate the pyrrhic affirmation through judicial coup orchestrated by the PEPC affirming Tinubu as the winner of the Presidential election.”

He wondered why Shettima in
gloating over the predetermined and compromised PEPC verdict like a child just handed a cup of iced-cream by the mother, cannot but notice that all is quiet across Nigeria, including Lagos and Borno States, because the people know the justices ruled in Tinubu’s and APC’s favour notwithstanding the preponderance of hard facts and evidence adduced before them which show that Tinubu never won the last Presidential election.”

He said in spite of Shettima’s unstatesmanlike comment, “some of us know that Atiku and Peter Obi remain the heroes of democracy in Nigeria and Nigerians will never forget their struggle for a free, fair and transparent democratic system in the country irrespective of whether they get justice in the instant election petition case or not.”

According to him, “what happened in Nigeria on Wednesday was a judicial coup against the Nigerian state. It wasn't justice. It was an ambush against the people.

“Shettima and his gang may celebrate a stolen mandate against the will and wishes of majority of Nigerians now, but a time will come when they will feel the impact of what transpired when the judiciary brazenly decided to jettison substance, facts and evidence adduced before them and ruled against Nigerians for their personal gain.”

Frank who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, called on Shettima to apologise to Atiku and Nigerians over his unguarded statement which was “apparently borne out of crash impunity and arrogance.”

He said: “A man like Shettima who has been accused times without number of sponsorship of Boko Haram ought to be in jail right now rather than walking free without any modicum of respect for elders and with a stolen mandate.

“He ought to be begging God for forgiveness seeing the many atrocities Boko Haram has committed in the North and the attendant deaths, ruination of lives and devastation of property.”

He called on the Judiciary to use Atiku’s and Obi’s decision to approach the Supreme Court to redeem its image.

He commended Atiku for his resilience and doggedness in the pursuit of justice and in upholding the rule of law.

He said despite Atiku’s disagreement with the ruling of the Appeal Court’s Justices, the former Vice President demonstrated his abiding faith in the Nigerian judiciary by opting to subject the verdict to further scrutiny by the Supreme Court.

“Let the judiciary use the opportunity to redeem itself. Despite Nigerians have lost confidence and hope in the judicial process, they have been presented with another opportunity to either destroy Nigeria finally or write their names in gold through fearless, courageous and truthful decision.

“Atiku and Obi are doing everything possible to bring hope to Nigerians in their decision to give the judiciary a second chance as men of integrity who strongly believe in a free, fair, democratic process,” he said.

Politics / Atiku’s Aide To Shettima: Turning Borno State Into Hell Is Your Only Legacy by Jatuski: 10:03pm On Sep 07, 2023
The only legacy of Vice-President Kashim Shettima is transforming Borno State from ‘the Home of Peace’ to hell fire, the Special Assistant on Public Communications to Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, has said.

Shaibu said this in a statement today, in reaction to Shettima’s speech at the Presidential Election Petition Court, adding that Shettima failed abysmally as governor and chief security officer of Borno State.

Responding, however, Shaibu said it was laughable that Shettima who has the most woeful governance record in Nigerian history and could not lift the people of Borno State from poverty was planning on investing in Atiku.

He said, “Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have responded to Kashim Shettima since he has an incurable speech deficiency which is so severe that most Nigerians can hardly understand what he says. However, for the sake of the reading public, this response becomes very important.

“He loves to rack lackluster jokes at every given opportunity. Last year, he said Vice-President Osinbajo should have been an ice cream man instead of a politician. Later on, he said Nigeria needed a leader like Sani Abacha.

“As part of his circus act, he visited the annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in an oversize suit, a pair of sneakers and a poorly knotted tie. Shettima needs to decide if he wants to be a statesman or Baba Sala of blessed memory . His behaviour is certainly unbefitting for a man who currently holds the exalted office of Vice-President, even if temporarily.”

Shaibu said it had become Shettima’s stock in trade to deride others because he had nothing worthwhile to say about himself or his principal, Bola Tinubu, whose three months in office have only worsened poverty and inflation.

He said, “Shettima was appointed as commissioner for finance and later became governor of Borno State. Those who brought him had high expectations for him having come from the banking sector. However, rather than bring prosperity to the people of Borno, he opened the floodgates of terror.

“During his tenure as governor between 2011 and 2019, Borno State was taken over by terrorists completely. He ignored a security report about an impending attack on Chibok which ultimately led to the abduction of over 250 schoolgirls.

“Specifically, the head of WAEC’s National Office in Nigeria, Charles Eguridu, stated in 2014 that WAEC had informed Shettima about the danger of holding exams in Chibok and advised that the students be relocated to Maidguri which was relatively safer. Shettima refused to relocate the students and they were abducted, half of whom have not been seen again till today.

“Even though he left government four years ago, the millions of residents of Borno State have yet to recover from the mistake called Shettima. Rather than be penitent, he continues to move about like a clown, making unsolicited dry jokes about others.”

We wonder what manner of substance Shettima was on when he proceeded to denigrate the great Fombina kingdom headed by HRH Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, the Lamido of Adamawa.

Shaibu advised the Vice-President to stick to praying to God for forgiveness for thwarting the destiny of the millions of people of Borno State.

“We advise Kashim Shettima to spend the remainder of his days praying to God everyday for forgiveness for destroying the lives of the millions of people of Borno State rather than making dry and insipid jokes at those who have actually bettered the lives of people.

“His lack of sophistication is eroding the elegance of the Office of the Vice-President. Men of honour have held that position in the past and Shettima should learn from the examples they led in public decency. In any case, he would do well by attending a finishing school on Atiku’s scholarship and learn how to behave like a polished statesman,” Shaibu said.

Politics / The Son Will Rise From The East: Nigeria's Call For Change by Jatuski: 7:40pm On Sep 07, 2023
By; Amb ALIYU BIN ABBAS

In Nigeria, a nation of immense diversity and resilience, the streets are buzzing with a fervor that refuses to be quelled. The recent verdict of the election tribunal, which declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the victor, has not ignited the celebrations that usually accompany such moments. Instead, it has sparked a collective mood of apprehension, frustration, and uncertainty. Nigeria stands at crossroads, and the people are saying "enough is enough."

The prevailing sentiment in Nigeria is that the election result is far from representative of the people's will, and the consequences of this belief is beginning to manifest on the streets. There's an undercurrent of discontent that threatens to erupt into a full-blown crisis—anarchy and chaos loom as potential outcomes, if the grievances are not addressed promptly and fairly.

In a country with a long history of political turmoil, Nigeria's people have shown remarkable patience and resilience. However, there comes a time when even the most patient of nations can no longer bear the weight of injustice and a perceived loss of democratic principles. The verdict of the election tribunal has served as a catalyst for change—a change that the Nigerian people are demanding.

What is striking in this tumultuous period is the absence of celebrations for President Tinubu's declared victory. Typically, a triumphant election result is a cause for jubilation and optimism. Yet, Nigeria's streets remain eerily quiet, reflecting a nation that has lost faith in its leadership. The absence of celebration is a stark indication of the prevailing mood—a mood that is not conducive to stability and progress.

Nigeria, once a nation of diverse voices and vibrant discourse, has witnessed a troubling transformation. Many have become unwitting donkeys, carrying the burdens of decisions they did not make and policies they did not choose. The ranks of sycophants have swelled, and dissenting voices are often drowned out by a chorus of conformity.

This transformation into a nation of docile followers is a disheartening and perilous development. It is a reflection of a government that appears disconnected from the needs and aspirations of its people. It is a manifestation of leadership that seems more interested in maintaining its grip on power than in addressing the genuine concerns of the populace.

In the face of this collective apathy and disillusionment, Nigeria finds itself at a crossroads. The path forward is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the Nigerian people are demanding change. They are no longer content to accept the status quo, and they are no longer willing to swallow "any crap" that is fed to them.

Predicting the emergence of a new leader is speculative, but the yearning for change is undeniable. It is likely that a leader will arise, either from the North East, South East, or perhaps from a combination of both regions, who will heed the call of the people and usher in a new era of Nigerian politics.

Nigeria has a rich history of resilience and determination. It is a nation that has overcome formidable challenges in the past. The current turmoil presents an opportunity for Nigeria to reassess its democratic values, to demand transparency and accountability, and to reinvigorate its commitment to justice and fairness.

As the son rises from the East, or from any corner of this great nation, the hope is that he will bring with him a renewed sense of purpose, a commitment to the principles of democracy, and a vision for a united, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria. The Nigerian people have shown that they are ready for change, and the world watches as the nation takes its next steps toward a brighter future.

Business / AYCF Hits At Sponsored Groups Campaigning For NNPCL Boss, Kyari's Removal by Jatuski: 2:00pm On Sep 07, 2023
The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has challenged the dubious protest staged by fictitious groups calling for the sack and probe of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

The obscure groups, Northern Youth Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative and Arewa Youth Forum also called on the federal government to suspend the Executive Vice President (Upstream), Adokye Tombomieye, Managing Director, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) Ali Muhammed Zahra, and Managing Director, National Petroleum Investment Management Services and Bala Wunti.

But AYCF in a statement, signed by its President Shettima Yerima noted with deep concerns that sponsored individuals masquerading as members of fictitious Northern Nigerian Youth Groups are behind the incessant misinformation campaign for the removal of Mele Kyari as Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL.

"However, we are pleased that most Nigerians who possess discernment and indeed Federal Government have dismissed this protest as it was orchestrated by selfish individuals seeking their own interests rather than those which benefit Nigerians collectively.

"It should be common knowledge now that under Mele Kyari's leadership, NNPCL has recorded tremendous accomplishments in Nigeria's oil sector. These endeavors have been advantageous to Nigerians and propelled Nigeria's economy forward. One major achievement is environmental pollution reduction; strategic measures put in place by NNPCL ensure safeguarding and preservation of our environment resulting in significant reduction levels of pollution making it safer for citizens.

"Another milestone recorded by NNPCL is Port Harcourt’s absence from black soot lately due to commitment towards environmental safety which has resulted in cleaner air quality for its inhabitants. Foreign ships' presence illegally stealing crude oil from Nigeria waters drastically reduced following stringent measures put in place under Mele Kyari’s watch at NNPCL; this led to a considerable decline in illegal crude sales thereby increasing revenue generated by Nigeria’s government," the statement said.

Furthermore, AYCF said that during his tenure, NNPCL production output increased tremendously seeing Nigeria regain Africa's top crude oil producer position ahead of Angola, while boosting foreign reserves, helping attract more investments into the oil industry, resulting to renewed investment activities within this sector generating jobs opportunities through Tantita subsidiary reducing attacks on pipelines thus improving security installations across Nigeria.

"NNPCL performance service delivery under Mele Kyari leadership demonstrates great strides taken within petroleum industry development contributing significantly towards national security improvements protecting territorial integrity against ungoverned areas like Niger Delta where vessels would bring about threats causing social crises through destructions carried out there.Under his watchful eyes at NNPLC he made significant strides developing Nigerian petroleum industry further enhancing operational efficiencies taking proactive steps sustaining growth driving innovations achieving various milestones whilst prioritizing stakeholders’ interests both locally & globally.

"As patriotic Nigerians we commend outstanding leadership demonstrated at NNPLC call on him continue doing what he does best driving growth /development throughout entire petroleum Industry encouraging all fellow countrymen to remain vigilant rejecting any attempt(s) whereby selfish individuals use guise civil society advancing their own self-interests over those benefiting us all collectively," Yerima stressed.

Nairaland / General / Dawn Of African Spring: Lessons From Gabon's Coup, Warning For Tinubu by Jatuski: 7:48pm On Aug 30, 2023
By; Amb ALIYU BIN ABBAS.

In recent days, the African continent has been gripped by a monumental political upheaval that has reverberated across the world. The announcement of a coup in Gabon, resulting in the ousting of President Ali Bongo, serves as a stark reminder of the potential for rapid and unexpected change.

This event underscores how sentiments, grievances, and aspirations can coalesce to fuel mass movements, unsettling even the most established political structures.

Gabon, a nation known for its abundant resources and cultural diversity, has been thrust onto the global stage as its military seized control in response to contested election results. Allegations of irregularities and a lack of transparency surrounding President Ali Bongo's election victory had created an undercurrent of public frustration.

This simmering discontentment eventually erupted into a full-scale coup, reshaping the nation's political landscape.

While the world watches this unfolding scenario, the implications extend far beyond Gabon's borders, prompting reflection on other nations, including Nigeria. The coup's ripple effect serves as a poignant warning for leaders, most notably President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.

Nigeria, often considered a regional powerhouse, is no stranger to political fervor and societal unrest. The country's citizens are increasingly vocal about their demands for transparency, accountability, and a responsive government that genuinely addresses their needs. In an era marked by connectivity and the rapid dissemination of information, leaders would be wise not to underestimate the influence of the masses, especially when sentiment becomes impassioned.

At this pivotal juncture, President Tinubu should glean insights from the lessons of Gabon's coup. The power of the people is a force that demands recognition. Global history underscores this, as mass movements have reshaped societies and policies. In Nigeria, as discontentment amplifies and calls for change grow more resounding, leaders must navigate this dynamic landscape with a sharp understanding of the national pulse.

Additionally, it's paramount for leaders to assess the geopolitical context. President Tinubu's purported alliance with France, a historical colonial power on the African continent, warrants introspection.

The rising tide of African nations reevaluating their relationships with former colonial powers, and increasingly leaning towards Eastern superpowers, should not be overlooked. While Africans are voicing their dissatisfaction with historical ties to countries like France, President Tinubu's association could cast a shadow over his leadership.

The African Spring, emblematic of change and renewal, has arrived. Its impact transcends borders and ideologies, and its essence lies in the potency of collective action driven by the aspirations of citizens yearning for a brighter future. As leaders like President Tinubu navigate the intricate landscape of governance, they must remain attentive to the murmurs of the people, engage in meaningful dialogue, and take substantial steps towards addressing their concerns.

The Gabon coup is a timely call to action, a vivid illustration that history's pendulum swings swiftly, and leaders who fail to adapt may find themselves on the wrong side of transformation. As we witness the inception of what might be an African Spring, leaders must tread cautiously, listen intently, and lead with a profound dedication to advancing their nations and improving the lives of their citizens.

In essence, the coup in Gabon serves as a stark and urgent reminder that leadership is a privilege and a responsibility. In a time when Africa is at the crossroads of change and renewal, leaders like President Tinubu have a choice: to genuinely heed the calls of their people and embrace their desires for a more just and equitable future or to risk being left behind by the surging tide of history.

Politics / Biden’s Invite To Tinubu Inappropriate, Condemnable, Says Timi Frank by Jatuski: 5:45pm On Aug 30, 2023
*Says Tinubu govt lacks legitimacy

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Wednesday, described the purported request of the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, to meet President Bola Tinubu as inappropriate and condemnable.

Frank said the meeting billed to take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September is suspicious in view of the fact that Tinubu currently lacks legitimacy as the result of the 2023 Presidential Election is being contested in court.

He said Biden’s request conveyed by a US Presidential envoy and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ambassador Molly Phee, defeats the stance of the American Government on democracy and sanctity of the ballot.

“President Joe Biden is asking to meet with you on the sidelines of UNGA and you are the only African leader he has requested to meet. It is a mark of his high regard for your leadership,”
Ambassador Phee said during his meeting with Tinubu recently.

Frank said: “This move by Biden is certainly anti-American stance on rule of law and a bad example in collaborations in view of the pendency of suits challenging the declaration of Tinubu as President and multiple investigations ongoing concerning his integrity,
true identity and academic records both in Nigeria and USA.

“It's an insult to say that Tinubu is the only African president that Biden has chosen to meet on the sidelines of UNGA when they know his legitimacy deficit and the fraudulent election that brought him as president.

“For me, even if they want to discuss Africa affairs, they can discuss with any other legitimate African leader within the continent.

“However, it is clear the only reason they are seeking this meeting is to protect their selfish interests and it is for this type of unbecoming action that the US is now trying former President Donald Trump.

Frank who is the Ambassador of the United Liberation Movement for West Papau (ULMWP), to the East Africa and Middle East, added:
“It is disheartening to note that at a time when everyone is eagerly waiting on the outcome of the Presidential Election Tribunal, the US will seek to play to the gallery by inviting Tinubu as the sole African leader Biden wishes to meet at UNGA.

He urged Biden to rescind his invitation to Tinubu pending the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on the suits challenging the legitimacy of the President.

He said: “The USA should know that any other African President can collaborate with them for mutual benefit provided they legitimately hold power in trust for the people.

“Why is President Biden in a hurry to meet Tinubu at UNGA other than to protect US interest in the West African sub-region, especially in view of recent military coup in Niger Republic and the reports of a putsch in Gabon.

“We are curious as to the true intent of the proposed meeting save for divide-and-rule-system employed
by developed countries in their relations with African countries, otherwise there is no need for this hurry to meet Tinubu until the courts have decided the true winner of the Nigerian Presidential election.

“The US must allow the Nigerian judicial system to determine the legitimacy or otherwise of President Tinubu before it seeks to discuss sensitive issues with him concerning the West African sub-region.

“This is very crucial and necessary as anything otherwise will seek to legitimize an illegality at a time when Nigerians are eager to see to a final closure on this matter.

“Again, need we say that this kind of bestowal of recognition on illegitimate administrations by America and other western powers is responsible for new incidences of coups in the African subregion?

“We must state categorically that some of us as allies and friends of USA have nothing against American pursuing its interests in Nigeria or Africa but they must not do it to the detriment of people of Nigeria or Africa.

“Rather, diplomatic and business relations and collaborations between the two sovereign nations should be done in a manner befitting both nations considering the views and interest of the Nigerian people. We believe in them but they must try and also do things that will benefit Nigeria.

“As true friends, we will call them out when they go wrong and applaud them when they're right as regards issues concerning Africa in general and Nigeria in particular.”

Nairaland / General / Learning From Lessons For PDP From 2019-2023 , Anc's Struggles In South Africa by Jatuski: 2:56pm On Aug 29, 2023
By Amb ALIYU BIN ABBAS

The trajectory of political parties is often marked by triumphs and pitfalls, lessons that resonate globally.

The journey of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) from 2019 to 2023 provides a profound learning opportunity, drawing parallels with the Africa National ANC in South Africa, which has faced a decline in support and a potential need for coalition-building.

This comparative analysis underscores the perils of complacency, the risk of detachment from public sentiment, and the consequences of underestimating emerging contenders.

It also delves into the complexities of political vacuums, the distractions of internal conflicts, and the implications of disloyalty within party circles.

Complacency: A Precursor to Failure

Both the PDP and ANC have witnessed a shift in popular support, showcasing the dangers of complacency. Prolonged rule can breed a sense of invincibility, leading to a gradual loss of urgency and relevance.

The ANC's decline in South Africa and the PDP's challenges are reminders that political parties must evolve and adapt to remain effective.

Disconnect from Public Sentiment

Over time, political parties can become detached from the pulse of public sentiment. This disconnection creates an opening for disruptive forces. In South Africa, the ANC's waning appeal has allowed the opposition D.A. party to gain ground. Similarly, the emergence of Peter Obi's Labour Party posed a significant challenge to the PDP, demonstrating the consequences of underestimating emerging political contenders.

Political Vacuums: A Breeding Ground for Manipulation

Vacuums in the political landscape create opportunities for manipulation. The notion that the Labour Party might be sponsored by Bola Ahmed Tinubu serves as a reminder of the strategic maneuvering that can influence political dynamics. These vacuums expose the vulnerabilities of established parties, highlighting the importance of vigilance in guarding against external manipulation.

In-House Conflicts: Distracting from the Bigger Picture

Internal conflicts within political parties are often counterproductive, in the case of PDP - diverting energy away from challenging the ruling party. The ANC's in-fighting and the PDP's internal struggles reflect a detrimental tendency to prioritize personal disagreements over the larger goal of securing power. These conflicts create openings for the ruling party in the case of the PDP to exploit divisions.

Leadership and Inner Circles

A party's leadership and the individuals surrounding them play a crucial role in shaping the party's trajectory. If disloyalty and self-interest infiltrate the inner circle, the party's vision and mission can be compromised. The ANC's struggles with factionalism and the PDP's experience of disloyalty underscore the importance of a cohesive and principled leadership team.

Sabotage and Compromise

The intrusion of sabotage and compromise can severely weaken a political party's effectiveness. Infiltration by the ruling party into opposition ranks, as seen in both the ANC and PDP narratives, in the case of ANC rumors of President Cyril Ramaphosa actually being sponsored by the Stellenbosch mafia!! underscores the need for stringent security measures to safeguard the party's integrity from capture and comprmise. Disloyalty from within can be as damaging as external threats.

Conclusion: Lessons for the Future

The stories of the PDP and ANC in the recent years serve as cautionary tales for all political parties. Complacency, detachment from public sentiment, and infighting can collectively undermine the very foundation of a party's strength. Vigilance, adaptability, and unity are imperative to ensure that a party remains relevant, responsive, and effective in fulfilling its mandate.

The lessons are clear: parties must consistently engage with their constituents, recognize emerging contenders, and remain vigilant against external manipulation. In-house conflicts should be minimized, and a culture of loyalty and principled leadership must be nurtured.

The journey of political parties is shaped not only by their policies and strategies but also by their ability to connect with the aspirations of the people they represent.

As political landscapes continue to evolve, these lessons offer a roadmap for parties to navigate the complex terrain of politics with resilience, foresight, and a renewed commitment to their core values.

Politics / Timi Frank Condemns Sham Election In Zimbabwe, Accuses AU, ECOWAS Of Silence by Jatuski: 2:38pm On Aug 27, 2023
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank on Sunday, condemned the rigging of Presidential election in Zimbabwe by the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Frank in a statement in Abuja, also accused the Heads of State and Governments of the African Union and indeed the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) of eerie silence in the face of electoral injustice being meted on the opposition presidential candidate in Zimbabwe widely believed to have won the election.

According to Frank, such electoral coups in the form of rigging often snowball into military coups and violent change of governments because of discontent and deep seated anguish of the people who have been denied the right to freely choose who to lead them by fraud and force.

He insisted that Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared winner in questionable circumstances following widespread irregularities orchestrated by the ruling party in instilling fear and suppression of votes in opposition strongholds.

He noted that candidate of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Nelson Chamisa, was robbed of votes as attested by international observers and South African Regional body that monitored the election.

According to him, foreign poll monitors insisted that the elections had failed to meet regional and international standards just like the outcome of the February 25, 2023 presidential election in Nigeria that failed on all parameters due to overbearing influence of the ruling party and its use of financial inducements, intimidation and harassment of opposition and voters to deny Nigerians of their rightful choice.

The head of the European Union’s observer mission said the vote took place in a “climate of fear”, while Southern African regional bloc SADC’s mission raised issues including voting delays, issues with the voter roll, bans on opposition rallies and biased state media coverage.

“For example, voting was forced into an unprecedented second day because of delays in the printing of ballot papers in some key districts including the capital Harare, an opposition stronghold principally to deny Chamisa of votes,” he said.

He condemned a situation where African ruling parties are increasingly violating the electoral rights of the opposition parties and their candidates through rigging saying the trend will continue if measures are not taken to make African Heads of States to respect the sanctity of the ballot box.

He urged regional political blocs like the AU and ECOWAS to urgently call the President of Zimbabwe to order as a step towards curbing coup d'état now rearing its ugly head in many Africa countries like the recent one in Niger Republic.

“This is what African leaders are doing that is leading to military coups in the continent of Africa. An electoral coup has just taken place where the sitting President has outrightly rigged the election against the expressed will of the people.

“But neither African presidents nor AU has condemned what has happened in Zimbabwe. But if there is a military coup in Zimbabwe tomorrow, they will all begin to issue war threats in a bid to restore democratic rule,” he said.

He called on the United States of America, United Kingdom and other international bodies, to
lend their voice to condemn the electoral heist in Zimbabwe if they are genuinely interested in ending coups in Africa.

“So we are telling the international community that until they come together to make sure that African elections are transparent, free and fair, coups will not end in Africa,” he declared.

He called for urgent international sanctions against the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa and any President that rigs election in Africa to fraudulently perpetuate themselves in office against the wish of the people.

“The United Nations must ensure that henceforth Presidents or heads of governments that were rigged into office are not invited to attend its General Assembly or any of its international gatherings,” he said.

Politics / Shattered Dreams: Nigeria's Relentless Descent From Colonial Chains To Chaos by Jatuski: 4:18pm On Aug 25, 2023
By; Amb ALIYU BIN ABBAS

I have a dream, a dream of a Nigeria finally unburdened from the chains of colonial manipulation, where the shackles of inequality and injustice are ripped apart, and a united, powerful nation emerges.

But let's face the harsh truth: our current reality tells a dramatically different story, one where Nigeria's potentials are squandered due to the legacy of colonization, internal turmoil, and leadership failures.

As we stand on the precipice of change, it's imperative to confront the lingering grip of colonialism that still throttles Nigeria's path. The nauseating ties that keep us tethered to the United Kingdom and the Western powers, those former colonizers, have proved nothing but detrimental.

The era of maintaining these shackles must end; it's time to explore new alliances, possibly with the BRICS group of nations—a coalition of emerging economies that could actually benefit us and foster true collaboration in a swiftly evolving global stage.

From the moment we claimed independence, Nigeria embarked on a downward spiral that has been unrelenting. Let's put the plummeting value of the Nigerian Naira against the US Dollar front and center. The ever-widening gap between these two currencies is a glaring symbol of a nation that's failed to navigate the international economy effectively, spiraling into an abyss rather than ascending to prosperity.

And then, in this sea of struggle, enters Bola Ahmed Tinubu—claiming a prominent spot in the spotlight, though not for noble reasons. As Nigeria grapples with internal fractures, socio-economic setbacks, and a political landscape teetering on the edge, certain figures seem all too willing to exploit these vulnerabilities for their selfish gain.

The audacity of a leader manipulating an ECOWAS military intervention as a ruse to clinging to the presidency is a stark reminder of misplaced priorities. It's a tactic that further diverts attention from the real needs of the Nigerian populace.

My dream, forgive me for daring to dream, envisions a Nigeria where unity isn't just a word, where leaders genuinely prioritize the nation's wellbeing over their personal power trips.

In this alternate reality, a functional Nigeria would harness the boundless potential of its diverse people, irrespective of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, or regional affiliations. It's a world where education, healthcare, and opportunities flow evenly to every citizen, regardless of their societal standing.

But let's not kid ourselves, the gap between this vision and the grim reality is gaping and impossible to ignore. The Nigerian populace, shackled not only by external forces, but also by its own apathy, remains stuck in a perpetual cycle of inaction.

The power to change lies within us, but it's been smothered by years of complacency and indifference. We're collectively under a spell—a convenient illusion that let's select few maintain control, while the majority languish.

Picture this: if everyone stood up, if every Nigerian refused to accept this nightmarish status quo, the government would crumble overnight. But instead, we continue to doze in a trance of our own making. The power to reshape our nation, to strip away the remnants of colonization, and to tear down the scaffolding of corrupt leadership rests within our collective will.

It's time for Nigerians to shake off the stupor, to realize that the power to break free from these chains is within our grasp. Let's not be blinded by the history of oppression or the puppetry of opportunistic leaders. By daring to envision a Nigeria where justice prevails, where unity is more than an empty slogan, we ignite the spark of change.

In the end, the dream of a united, prosperous Nigeria refuses to fade away. It's a dream that challenges us to look past our differences, to rise above the weight of the past, and to work collectively toward a future that's brighter for all. If we have the audacity to dream, to unite as a formidable force, we can bulldoze the barriers of history and create a Nigeria that stands as a beacon of hope, not only for ourselves but for the entire continent and the world.

Politics / Frank Urges FBI, CIA To Probe Chicago Varsity Over Tinubu’s Academic Records by Jatuski: 2:57pm On Aug 25, 2023
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Friday, called on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to urgently investigate the authorities of Chicago State University over their curious reluctance/refusal to release relevant academic records a certain Bola Tinubu who is either a female or male, given that there is a president in Nigeria called Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is laying claim to a controversial certificate from that university.

Frank who made this request in a statement in Abuja, said the probe has become necessary to determine the authenticity of the certificates offered to Americans who graduated from the University that have now been called to question by President Tinubu's claims that the University awarded him with a certificate that was littered with errors by an unnamed employee of the University which he had tendered before Nigerian authorities.

He said in order that law abiding Nigerians are not made to believe that there is a level of compromise and complicity by the university in trying to shield Tinubu’s academic record claims from public scrutiny despite such doubtful credentials that do not match the standards of any American Academic records, independent institutions in the United State need to step in.

He insisted the intervention is necessary because in previous electoral claims by Mr Tinubu, he had also blamed errors in his academic record claims on other third parties having previously stated for the electoral record documentation in Nigeria that he attended institutions which he never did and he was exposed by those who attended the school such as Government College lbadan.

He said rather than allow Tinubu’s current claims of errors by unstated third parties in the CSU, the University authorities owe the American and Nigerian public the duty to publicly state the facts as they are, that Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, male, born in 1952, attended the University and submitted credentials that are accessible to the Nigerian Court System where Tinubu seeks to hold the highest office in the land, an office that requires unblemished integrity, honesty and public trust.

Frank said: “Tinubu’s records are public documents because the Chicago State University is a public academic institution and not a secret cult organisation. After all, the fake certificate being paraded by Tinubu are on the website created by CSU for fake certificates and that of Tinubu is there as a bad imitation of the genuine Bola Tinubu (female).

“Tinubu is also a public servant that is duty bound to be accountable to Nigerians if he has nothing to hide or if the academic records he claims from the university are genuine.

“Or better still, if there is nothing fishy between him and the university. We believe the university should be proud to showcase the records of its former students by releasing them on demand except they have been compromised.

“If Tinubu’s certificate is genuine and something he is proud of, he should have allowed the university to release it to the public because he's serving the public as he claims.”

He urged the University should not to ruin its image and reputation through conduct inimical to its integrity by refusing to release required records.

He added: “We advise the US government not to destroy its long-standing relationship with Nigeria because of one man.

“Otherwise, this case will make the world see the university system in US as corrupt and compromised because we understand how the American system works.

“If Tinubu is the President of America and American citizens request for his academic information, will they not grant the request?

“They will do because every President of America and those holding public offices are answerable to the public, that underpins the principle of Accountability.

“If Donald Trump could be on trial, why will someone seeking public office in Nigeria be shielded from scrutiny at the point of entry by public institutions in America? Is it that the President of Nigeria is not meant to be accountable to the citizenry?

“This is why we are calling on the American Secret Service - FBI and CIA - to investigate this clear act of possible bias on the part of Chicago State University because it does not speak well of CSU.

“Except, of course, it is a conspiracy of the United States and the Chicago State University to cover the illegality between Tinubu and Nigerians to be able to manipulate him for U.S interest.

“This would therefore mean they don't care whether there is a legitimate or illegitimate government in the country.

“If the US truly supports and is for a democratic transparent, free and fair electoral process in Nigeria, like they do in America, they should ensure that everything about Tinubu’s academic record is released to Nigerians to enable them know who their president really is.That is the irreducible minimum expectation from the US.

“Besides, it is never a crime for taxpayers to challenge the legitimacy of public office holders in Nigeria, just like in America where former President Trump is being tried for wrongdoing.

“The American institutions do not see Trump as a former president, but they are looking at the evidence before the US authorities and that is why they are trying him.

“There is no difference between what they are doing in America and what is being done in Nigeria. So, the US should do everything to give Nigerians the records required with all urgency.

“We appeal to the judge in the State of Chicago court to order the university to release those documents they way it would have been done if a U.S. citizen had made a similar application.

Politics / Address Marginalization In Cabinets, Rev Azzaman Tasks Tinubu, Uba Sani by Jatuski: 2:35pm On Aug 25, 2023
By; MIKE ODEH JAMES, Kaduna

Popular Christian cleric, Rev. David Ayuba Azzaman has spoken out for the first time on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's ministerial appointments, as well as that of Governor Uba Sani's political appointments.

Rev.Azzaman said that President Tinubu's appointments are full of kudos as well as knocks. Citing Benue as an example, the cleric added that some of the appointments are lopsided.

"As in the case of Benue, the Secretary to the Federal Government is a Tiv man, the minister from Benue State is also a Tiv man.
There are other tribes such as the Idomas, at least the President should have picked an Idoma for ministerial appointment for the sake of equity.

The Rev. also urged Tinubu to consider appointing a Christian from Kaduna State as a minister, adding that Christians in Kaduna are being shortchanged.

"In a state of about 10 million, Christians are about five million, yet the Governor, the Deputy, and over ninety per cent of the commissioners are Muslims; it would amount to deliberate marginalization if you don't appoint a Christian.

"The President should understand that he is now the President of all Nigerians and not the President of Muslims or the All Progressives Congress.

Azzaman also urged Governor Uba Sani to be fair to Christians as he goes about constituting his cabinet.

Speaking on other appointments made by Tinubu, the fiery critic commended Tinubu for appointing Nyesom Wike as Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, adding that it is a right peg in a round hole.

He observed that most of the president's appointments are technocrats who fit into his agenda.

Rev.Azzaman also praised Tinubu for not appointing former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasiru el-Rufai, into his cabinet, adding that he should go a step further and arrest the former governor for being complicit in the killings that engulfed the state during his tenure.

Politics / Tinubu's Lawyer Blames 156-year-old Chicago Varsity Over Error In Certificates by Jatuski: 5:07pm On Aug 24, 2023
The legal process initiated by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar asking the Chicago State University (CSU) for a discovery of President Bola Tinubu’s academic records has got a new twist, as lawyers to President Tinubu in their fillings blamed the clerk of the 156 year-old school for the errors in his academic documents and certificate.

It will be recalled that the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois had given Tinubu up until 23 August to make a formal filling on why his records should not be released to the petitioner, Atiku Abubakar.

In complying with the directive of the court however, Tinubu’s lawyer, on Wednesday, said that an unidentified clerk of the university “unfortunately” made the errors as to the dates the school stated on his recently-issued certificate and when he actually graduated, thereby creating “the appearance of differences.”

Tinubu’s new claim was made before the judge hearing the case, Jeffery Gilbert of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago.

Atiku had subpoenaed the CSU to make a discovery of Tinubu’s academic records, believing that such discoveries will shed more light on the controversies surrounding Tinubu’s educational claims.

There have been crisis of authenticity about the documents that Tinubu submitted with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a viral document that the CSU in the 1970s admitted a female student bearing Bola Tinubu who was born on March 29, 1954.

While President Tinubu claims that he was born on March 29, 1952, he had also, at different times, listed 1954 as his birth year in the past.

The flame of controversy around President Tinubu’s academic records began to burn when, in 1999 during his run for the Lagos State governorship position, he claimed to have attended schools in Nigeria, which included Government College Ibadan, but which he later rescinded.

He also recently expunged his primary and secondary education from his records after it was discovered that other schools he listed under oath in his 1999 INEC form CF001 did not exist anywhere in Nigeria.

However, the documents being sought by Atiku seek to highlight which early education credentials Tinubu submitted to CSU before he was admitted into the university.

Atiku’s contention is that Tinubu had presented contradictory claims in Nigeria and the CSU in responding to a previous subpoena.

Tinubu’s response, which was signed by his lawyers, Oluwole Afolabi and Christopher Carmichael, quotes in part, “unfortunately, in responding to the illegal and invalid subpoena, CSU made several errors.

“CSU issued a new diploma for Bola A. Tinubu, but incorrectly wrote the date of graduation as June 27, 1979.

“The correct date was June 22, 1979, but that scrivener’s error – along with a change in the CSU logo, the font on the diploma, and leadership at CSU who signed the diploma created the appearance of differences between an earlier issued diploma and the one issued in response to the 2022 subpoena.”

Politics / Women Leaders Set To Protest Against Akpabio, Demand His Resignation Or Sack by Jatuski: 10:27am On Aug 21, 2023
Some Women Leaders across the Niger Delta region and beyond, under the aegis of Niger Delta Women League (NDWL), have demanded immediate resignation of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio or be sacked.

The women also vowed to take a massive protest to the National Assembly on the September 26, if their demand is not met.

In a statement signed by the national president of the group, Hon. Sheila Abiye Tamuno, she lamented the prevailing economic hardship foisted on the common man, by an indiscretion fuel subsidy removal, without necessary measures on ground to cushion the adverse ripples effects, adding that "Akpabio's unguarded statements comes wielding the gavel to seal a celebration of an elite 10th Senate over the sufferings of the masses."

Others who signed the statement include: Ajemina Gobo, Rivers State Co-ordinator, Madam Eureal Allagoa, Bayelsa State Co-ordinator, Elizabeth Moses Bassey, Cross Rivers State, Coordinator, Eucharia Ezidimma Ewurum, Imo State Co-ordinator, Madam Isesele Francisca Ofure, Edo State Co-ordinator, Madam Unwana Ibanga, Akwa Ibom State Co-ordinator, Madam Okubakere Ominisan, Ondo State Co-ordinator, Madam Happy Otojareri, Delta State Co-ordinator, Madam Amarachi Lydia Clairebelle Ijezie, Abia State Co-ordinator and Amb. Ojineme Enakheme, FCT Coordinator.

The women said Akpabio does not understand the seriousness of the legislative business of the Senate of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, hence he has elected to joke with the fate over three hundred million Nigerians.

"It is sufficiently clear that from his infamous "Let the poor breathe" misplaced joke to "token has been sent to your bank accounts to enable you enjoy your vacation" Akpabio has inconsiderately and injuriously slammed the gavel on the head of every Nigerian. We are bleeding from his actions and he needs to leave before he kills us all.

"We call on H.E (Sen) Godswill Akpabio to honourably resign his position as President Of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and drop the gavel with immediate effect.

"We call on the Distinguished Senators of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, to stand up for the masses, band together in defense of democracy and vote Akpabio out should he not agree to toe, the path of honour by resigning his office.

"In strict defense Of (3) and (4) above , we shall be mobilizing one million Niger Delta Women on the 26th September, 2023 to the gate Of the National Assembly to either thank the Senate or pressure them to do the needful.

"As we continue to groan under the fangs Of the current economic woes in a our nation where families can no longer afford two square meals, skyrocketing cost of transportation, good health care services, bludgeoning electricity tariffs etc. we would not sit down and watch Akpabio sniff out the minutest hope of life through his unguarded acts of impunity and indiscretion."

The statement lamented that with all economic indicators going through the roof, the Nigerian situation may soon be comparable with the great German depression of 1931.

"With no purchasing power, value and even the right to basal living conditions and Akpabio feels it is the best time tell us how they are entitled to go on enjoyment spree off our National purse, while Nigerians are told to endure.

"We address the press today because Godswill Akpabio has desecrated the hallowed chambers by adding insults to the economic injuries of the Nigerian man on the streets.

"For a man like Akpabio that comes with so much baggage to the hallowed chambers, we ordinarily would have expected him to take a break from his chequered past.

"The same Akpabio who in the guise of supervising the NDDC forensic audit, rather used the period under review as a cover to heartlessly plunder the Commission and entire Niger Delta region to the tune of #1.4 Trillion Naira, using Akwa as sole Administrator.

"The same act, he committed without Senate approval amounting to extra-budgetary expenditure.

"No wonder Akpabio made sure to frustrate every attempt to constitute the NDDC board for years after Ms Joy Nunieh exposed his kleptocratic high-handed tactics during a Senate hearing.

"For a man under investigation by anti-corruption agencies for multiple ,mind blowing levels of sleaze, to be handed the sacred position of the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a joke taken too far, making our dear Country a laughing stock to the International Community.

"As women, leaders and mothers of the Niger Delta, we think it's high time we redeem the image of our region, from the unsavoury misconducts and shame that Akpabio embodies," the women said.

Nairaland / General / We Are All Nigerians: ECOWAS Military Intervention And Complex Implications by Jatuski: 12:28pm On Aug 19, 2023
By; Amb ALIYU BIN ABBAS

The contemplation of a potential ECOWAS military intervention in Niger has ignited a storm of debates, concerns, and speculations.

While the intention may be to restore stability and order, the intricacies of such an intervention must be dissected comprehensively.

This article delves into the multifaceted dimensions of the situation, from the historical context of past interventions to the regional implications, including the potential resurgence of internal conflicts.

Furthermore, the strategic considerations surrounding the scenario of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian constitution's stance on leadership during military conflicts will be examined.

Ultimately, the analysis underscores the necessity for a united Nigerian populace to navigate the complex terrain ahead.

Historical Context and Concerns

The history of military interventions, particularly in conflict-torn regions, is replete with lessons that must not be forgotten. Such interventions often prove to be double-edged swords, with outcomes far from the intended objectives.

Frequently, they exacerbate pre-existing problems, prolong conflicts, and inflict unintended civilian casualties. Nigeria's own history bears witness to this, with the memory of the Biafra war still casting a long shadow over the nation.

An ECOWAS military intervention, while aiming to restore stability, could inadvertently worsen the situation it seeks to remedy. The potential escalation of violence, displacement of civilians, and further destabilization of the region are stark possibilities.

Moreover, the historical, cultural, and ethnic ties between Niger and Northern Nigeria add a layer of complexity. The intervention, regardless of its intent, could be interpreted as an attack on the North, resurrecting dormant secessionist sentiments and regional tensions.

Ethnic and Regional Implications

One of the most pressing concerns arising from the prospect of an intervention is the potential for renewed regional tensions and internal conflicts.

The memory of the Biafra war remains fresh in the minds of many Nigerians.

The ECOWAS intervention could inadvertently fan the flames of division and disunity, as it could be construed as an intrusion in the North's interest in favor of Western colonists.

The delicate balance of ethnic and religious diversity in Nigeria has always required careful handling. The intervention, while attempting to restore stability, could inadvertently ignite dormant regional and ethnic conflicts.

The repercussions of this would be devastating, leading to further disintegration of national unity and possibly serving as a catalyst for another Biafra-like scenario.

Strategic Considerations and Presidential Role

In the midst of these complex considerations, the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu takes center stage.

The Nigerian constitution permits the continuity of presidential power during times of military conflict, precisely outlined in Article 135 subsection (3) If the Federation is at war in which the territory of Nigeria is physically involved and the President considers that it is not practicable to hold elections, the National Assembly may by resolution extend the period of four years mentioned in subsection (2) of this section from time to time; but no such extension shall exceed a period of six months at any one time..

This constitutional provision is grounded in the need for stability and the uninterrupted functioning of the government, especially during times of crisis.

The strategy of utilizing a military conflict to consolidate power is a high-stakes game. Such a tactic aims to leverage the continuity clause to maintain President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's grip on power. However, this approach may polarize the nation further, igniting accusations of manipulating a crisis for personal gain.

The potential consequences, including the exacerbation of divisions and the erosion of public trust, are significant.

Potential Consequences and Humanitarian Concerns

The potential consequences of an ECOWAS military intervention extend beyond the immediate geopolitical implications.

The increase in internally displaced persons (IDPs), the loss of life, and the destabilization of an already fragile economic structure are among the grave concerns.

Civilian populations often bear the brunt of conflicts, leading to immense human suffering and long-term societal dislocation.

Furthermore, the Nigerian judiciary finds itself in a precarious position. The impending burden of rendering impartial judgments in the face of an ongoing military intervention complicates the already intricate legal landscape.

Balancing democratic principles with the need for stability presents a significant challenge, one that could strain the institution's integrity and capacity to uphold the rule of law.

The Imperative of Unity and Resilience

Amidst these multifaceted challenges, the central theme remains unity. Nigeria's strength is rooted in its diversity and collective resolve to face adversity.

The current juncture demands a united front, transcending ethnic, regional, and political divides. The emphasis should be on preserving the nation's core values of unity, diversity, and resilience.

Conclusion

The contemplation of an ECOWAS military intervention in Niger is fraught with complexities that cannot be underestimated. Historical precedents, ethnic tensions, constitutional provisions, and strategic considerations all contribute to the multifaceted nature of the situation.

The potential for unintended consequences, regional conflicts, and political maneuvering underscores the importance of a cautious approach.

As Nigerians, it is incumbent upon us to remember that our nation's strength resides in our unity. The shared goal of a prosperous, stable, and united Nigeria should transcend personal ambitions and immediate gains.

Only through collective effort, informed decision-making, and a commitment to shared values can Nigeria navigate these turbulent waters and emerge stronger on the other side. In the end, it is our responsibility to ensure that Nigeria's destiny is determined by its people and guided by a vision of a brighter future for all.

Politics / Nnpc’s $3bn Loan Is A Dubious Attempt To Stabilise Naira, Says Atiku's Aide by Jatuski: 8:59pm On Aug 16, 2023
Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has described as patently fraudulent the announcement by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that it had taken a loan for the primary purpose of supporting the naira.

Shaibu said that the announcement was a mere banana peel, a ruse to force the naira to appreciate on the parallel market.

He said in a statement that the move was cosmetic and unimaginative and had once again exposed President Bola Tinubu as a lilliputian economist that lacked ideas on how to rescue the economy he had pushed to the edge with unviable policies.

He argued that monetary policy was not the job of the NNPCL but the Central Bank of Nigeria and wondered why the NNPCL, which claimed to be a profit-making organisation, would go ahead to take a loan for the primary purpose of stabilising the Naira.

Atiku’s aide also drew parallels between the actions of the NNPCL and the CBN under the authority of Godwin Emefiele.

Shaibu added that oil production has dropped on Tinubu’s watch due to continuous oil theft.

He said that instead of boosting forex liquidity by increasing production and exports, Tinubu decided to take the Jejune path of obtaining foreign loans, an inglorious road that his predecessor had travelled

He said, “For many years, Tinubu claimed that he built the economy of Lagos from scratch. Now, he has been exposed as a charlatan. His administration detained Emefiele and vilified him for taking FX loans from JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs running into $7.5bn, which was used in defending the naira.

“Now, Tinubu’s administration claims to have done the same thing by forcing the NNPCL to take a loan of $3bn to defend the naira. We, however, have it on good authority that this is all a ruse to force the naira to appreciate at the parallel market, an action that will further affect the government's credibility.

“The NNPCL has failed to shed the toga of an ordinary government agency. No wonder it has refused to become a public limited liability company, as stated in the Petroleum Industry Act. The NNPCL boss, Mele Kyari, who is also desperate to retain his job, has allowed himself to become a willing political tool just like Emefiele. If the NNPCL was a publicly listed oil firm like Aramco and Mobil, would it obtain a loan in order to ‘defend the naira’?”

Shaibu said Tinubu lacked a clear economic blueprint, hence his constant failures.

He argued that Tinubu’s policy flip-flops had already begun affecting Nigerian bonds, as reported by Bloomberg.

He added, “The PUNCH aptly described Tinubu in its recent editorial as a loose cannon that goes around with a wrecking ball. He takes action whimsically without thinking about consequences. He announced the removal of petrol subsidies without proper planning and brought the nation to its knees.

“He forced the CBN to float the naira even though the country had liquidity problems. Now, he is on the verge of taking the West African region to war without Senate approval. Tinubu is nothing but a myth that will continue to unravel.

“He claims to have deregulated the petroleum sector, and yet NNPC is still the one determining the price of petrol.

"He has pegged the price of petrol and yet claims that there is no subsidy. Nigerians must not allow themselves to be deceived by this man.”

Politics / Remove Billboards, But Can't Remove All Eyes On Judiciary - Atiku’s Aide by Jatuski: 8:21pm On Aug 15, 2023
*Says even the arbiters of justice know that all eyes are on them because of the historic nature of their assignment

Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communications to Atiku Abubakar says the destruction of billboards which put up adverts that read, “All Eyes on The Judiciary” was clear evidence of President Bola Tinubu’s authoritarianism and assault on freedom of speech.

Shaibu said this while reacting to the directive by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) to pull down all billboards carrying the advert across Nigeria.

ARCON also dissolved the Advertising Standard Panel which is the statutory panel under the Council charged with the duty of ensuring that advertisements conform to the prevailing laws of the Federation as well as the Code of advertising ethics of the advertising profession.

Shaibu said the entire incident reinforced the argument that election cases in court ought to be completed before beneficiaries of questionable elections are inaugurated.

He further wondered how a message like : “All Eyes on the Judiciary" would translate to a threat to society.

“The basic principle of social justice is about the people. The advertisers of the bill boards only did what the norm is in civilized climes. It was the agents working to impress an interest that read meanings to that innocuous advert. Otherwise, it is a basic principle that eyes must be on the wheel of justice. Eyes must naturally be on the wheel of justice because when justice is delivered, it must be ‘seen’ to have been just! In any case, both Tinubu and the APC are before the same court. It is curious how they find this particular message upsetting. Anyway, even if they pull down the billboards, they can never stop all eyes from being on the judiciary at this historic time."

He said ARCON had already begun acting like the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA) which had built a reputation of denying Nigerians the right to carry adverts which the Lagos State government deemed “unfavourable”.

Atiku’s aide said, “Tinubu has, once again, put his dictatorial tendency on public display. How has a simple message that says “all eyes are on the judiciary” suddenly become offensive? This is a clear case of abuse of office and reinforces the argument that court cases ought to be concluded before inauguration so that beneficiaries of fraudulent elections would not be able to manipulate the system in their favour.

“Billboards are used in displaying educational messages. Is there any offence in alerting Nigerians to the fact that all eyes should indeed be on the judiciary? In any case, is there any Nigerian that does not know that the judiciary is hearing the case challenging Tinubu’s fraudulent victory? Even the justices themselves are aware that all eyes are on them because of the historic assignment that they are saddled with. If Tinubu had nothing to hide, why would he be afraid of such a message?

“Nigerians can now see what the people of Lagos have been facing all these years where LASAA denies the opposition the use of billboards just to please their master. It has become so bad that Tinubu’s son is the one that has exclusive rights to billboards on the Lekki axis. Who can forget that the company where Tinubu’s son enjoys commanding heights admitted to turning off the billboard lights during the #ENDSARS protests? And the only ridiculous explanation for such a dastardly act is that it wasn’t in bad faith.”

Shaibu said it was ironic that Tinubu claimed to be a democrat and even boasted of funding the June 12 struggle only for him to transform into an intolerant authoritarian after the election.

Atiku’s aide added that it was hypocritical for the same man to be championing democracy in Niger while at the same time denying Nigerians the most basic form of democracy which includes freedom of speech and expression. He needs to be reminded that charity begins at home.

He said the statement at the Senate screening by Dele Alake, that ‘social media would be regulated soon’ was just another evidence that Tinubu had no regard for democratic norms.

Shaibu added, “While we keep calling on the judiciary to restore the mandate of the people, we cannot but ask the citizens to be vigilant as the corn-man tries to undermine our democracy.

"Having failed in his last 70 days in office, which has increased Nigeria’s inflation and destroyed the value of the naira, systematically denied Nigerians the right to protest or go on strike. “Under the watch of this administration, inflation had climbed to an 18-year high.

“He wants to regulate social media so that his failures would not be amplified. You can’t flog Nigerians, and expect them not to cry. This will never happen.”

Nairaland / General / Questioning The Religious Representation Of Tinubu by Jatuski: 7:40am On Aug 15, 2023
By; Ambassador ALIYU BIN ABBAS

The concern surrounding our President's actions has transformed him into a national security topic of utmost importance, especially when his decisions seem to pit the very region that supported him against their own people, all in the pursuit of marching on Niger. Equally worrisome is the potential of his actions to sow discord within the armed forces - an entity he commands - and which comprises individuals of both Islam and Christianity.

It is worth considering the implications of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, led by the President and his vice, despite the President having a Christian spouse. This raises questions about his comfort level with having a Christian in a leadership role. Given the contentious landscape of Nigeria's official religions, one must acknowledge that adherents of both Islam and Christianity, including those in the armed forces, might feel disregarded if leadership choices fail to reflect a balanced representation of these two pivotal religions.

The imperative here is to maintain a harmonious equilibrium, acknowledging the sensitivities and interests of both official religions in Nigeria, even within the Armed Forces. This delicate balance is crucial when discussing matters of leadership options and decisions, particularly when they involve our country's national security.

This status quo does not have to persist; room for improvement exists. Deliberate consideration and thoughtful decision-making are essential to ensure that leadership choices not only acknowledge the diversity within our society but also respect the constitutional rights and beliefs of every citizen.

This reflections are offered in the hopes that our country's leadership will recognize the importance of embracing a united, balanced, and inclusive approach to matters of national significance. Only through such a mindset can we navigate the complex interplay of religion, politics, and governance, ensuring a stable and prosperous Nigeria for all.
