Nairaland / General / Benue Federal Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Worsening Insecurity In Constituency by Jatuski: 4:16pm On Apr 01
Hon. Blessing Onuh, the lawmaker representing Otukpo-Ohimini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has decried the escalating insecurity in her constituency, calling for urgent intervention from the federal government.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, the two-term legislator lamented the incessant attacks and killings in Otukpo, Benue State, describing the situation as a national emergency requiring immediate attention.

She appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators, bringing them to justice, and restoring peace to the affected communities.

"The killings in my constituency have reached an outrageous level in recent weeks. Every day, we witness the senseless murder of innocent people, and tragically, it is beginning to feel as though it is normal," Onuh stated.

She expressed frustration over the perceived inaction of security agencies, noting that after each attack, officials at both the state and local levels merely issue statements claiming to be on top of the situation, with no concrete action to follow.

"I wonder why people are being killed and kidnapped repeatedly, yet nothing happens to the perpetrators. After every attack, all we hear from the security apparatus in Makurdi and Otukpo is that they are 'on top of the matter,' but nothing ever changes. Families mourn their dead, return home, and brace for the next attack by suspected herdsmen," she added.

Providing chilling accounts of recent incidents, Onuh disclosed that just a day prior, a retired customs officer, Mr. Onche Akatu, was brutally killed in Asa 2 community, Otukpo Local Government Area, and two members of his family were abducted.

"The most painful part is that two members of his family were kidnapped after his gruesome murder. Should the dead man now rise to pay ransom for their release? My heart bleeds," she lamented.

Similarly, she recounted the case of Mrs. Felicia Ochigbo, a nursing mother who was slaughtered in the Old NTA Area of Asa community, and the recent murder of another resident, an Igbo man.
“ Last month in Okpomoju Community in Okete Ward of Otukpo Local Government Atea Suspected herdsmen killed five men causing extreme grief. These herdsmen according to community sources are even threatening people with phone calls. As I speak to you now people are running away from their communities without even knowing if where they are going to is even safe”
"Are these killers above the law? Why is it so difficult to apprehend them and restore peace so that our people can sleep with their two eyes closed?" she queried.

The lawmaker also raised concerns over the dire consequences of the persistent attacks, noting that fear of violence has forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands, worsening food shortages in the region.

In her plea to constituents, particularly the youth, Onuh urged them not to resort to jungle justice or reprisal attacks, emphasizing that taking the law into their own hands would only escalate the crisis.

She assured the people of her commitment to working closely with political leaders and security agencies to put an end to the heinous acts plaguing her constituency.

"I will engage with political stakeholders and security heads to ensure these atrocities come to an end. Our people deserve to live in peace," she pledged.

Nairaland / General / Eid-el-fitr: Northern CAN Advocates Strengthening Nigeria's Judicial System by Jatuski: 8:46am On Mar 30
*Mourns killing of 16 travelers

*Preaches forgiveness, unity

While felicitating with Muslim faithful over the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has advocated for the strengthening of Nigeria's justice system to ensure swift and fair punishment for perpetrators of crime.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary General, CAN 19 Northern States and FCT, Rev. John Joseph Hayab and Bishop Mohammed Naga respectively, made available to our correspondent on Sunday March 30, 2025.

"The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), felicitates with Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the successful completion of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.

"These spiritual activities are significant and rewarding to every faithful, especially those who embrace the teachings as instructed in the Holy Books," it said.

According to the statement, CAN also expressed grief and sorrow as it mourns the killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State.

"The pain and anguish their families and loved ones must endure are unbearable, and we can only imagine the depth of their suffering.

"May God grant them comfort, strength, and solace during this darkest of times.

"This heinous act of violence is a stain on our collective humanity, and CAN condemns it in the strongest terms.

"The brutal taking of innocent lives is a tragedy that should unite us all in our outrage and our determination to ensure that justice is served," CAN lamented.

The statement explained that, "as Christians, we stand in solidarity with their families, recognizing that this act of violence is not only an attack on any region but on our shared humanity. In this moment of unimaginable pain, we pray for peace and calm to be restored and for an end to violence and bloodshed in our nation.

"We pray for the healing of our land, for the rebuilding of trust and understanding between people of different faiths, and for the protection of all Nigerians from harm.

"We weep with you, we mourn with you, and we pray with you for an end to this senseless violence. To the immediate families and relatives of the victims, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

"We can only imagine the depth of your pain and grief, and we pray that God grants you the strength and courage to bear this unbearable loss. May the memories of your loved ones be a blessing to you, and may their sacrifice not be in vain.

"As we mourn the loss of these innocent lives, we appeal to those who are calling for counter-reaction to reconsider their actions. Revenge is not a solution but a recipe for further chaos and destruction. It is the innocent who will suffer again, and the cycle of violence will only continue to worsen."

According to the statement titled, "Northern CAN Felicitates with Muslims for a Successful Ramadan and Condemns Uromi Killings" Furthermore, CAN condemned the stereotypes and generalizations that seek to demonize Nigerians based on the actions of a few.

"Nigerians must rise in unison to reject such stereotypes and generalizations, whether based on religious, ethnic, or regional grounds.

"Evil is evil, and criminals must be treated as such without recourse to identities that criminals use to evade justice.

"Such divisive rhetoric only serves to fuel further violence and mistrust. Instead, we must work towards a future where every Nigerian can live without fear of violence or persecution, regardless of their location within the federation," the statement said.

CAN therefore, tasked the security agencies, the government of Edo State, and the Federal Government to ensure diligence in investigating this heinous crime and prosecuting those involved.

"It is crucial that they take immediate and transparent action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"As we move forward, we urge all Nigerians to join us in this pursuit of peace, justice, and harmony. In conclusion, we firmly believe that strengthening our justice system to ensure swift and fair punishment for perpetrators of crime is essential for lasting peace in our nation. By doing so, we can break the cycle of violence and create a safer, more just society for all Nigerians," the statement said.

Nairaland / General / Selective Outrage And The Tragedy Of Silence by Jatuski: 2:28pm On Mar 29
By; MIKE ODEH JAMES

The brutal murder of 16 Hausa hunters in Edo State is yet another tragic chapter in Nigeria’s long history of senseless violence. Prominent Nigerians, from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and journalist Farooq Kperogi, have all condemned the killings in strong terms.

Atiku even called for a thorough and transparent investigation. Jaafar Jaafar, a London-based journalist, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to not only condemn the act, but also outline a clear plan to stop such killings.

Without a doubt, the mob action that led to the death of these hunters is barbaric and unacceptable. But there’s an uncomfortable question lurking beneath the outrage: Where was this energy when similar or even worse killings happened elsewhere?

Take Atiku Abubakar, for instance. His strong condemnation of the Edo killings is in stark contrast to his deafening silence over the brutal murder of Deborah Samuel, a Christian student who was lynched in Sokoto on May 12, 2022, for alleged blasphemy.

Not only did he refuse to condemn her killers, but he also distanced himself from a tweet that initially criticized the act—clearly bowing to political and religious pressure.

Likewise, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and many of those now speaking out remained silent when communities in Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau suffered relentless attacks. Every week, villages in Southern Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau State are raided, leaving behind trails of blood and ashes. Between January 2023 and February 2024, over 2,000 people—mostly Tiv, Berom, Kataf, Surubu, and Idoma Christians—were slaughtered in what can only be described as systematic ethnic cleansing.

Where was the national outcry when over 150 Christians were massacred in Mangu, Plateau State, between December 24 and 26, 2023, by suspected Fulani militias? Where were these voices when Zangon Kataf in Southern Kaduna was drenched in blood time and time again—most recently in July 2023, when 33 people were killed in one night?

The reality is painfully clear: Some lives matter more than others in Nigeria’s political and media landscape.

There’s an eerie silence when Christian communities are attacked in the Middle Belt. But when the victims are Hausa or Fulani, the same leaders who ignored previous atrocities, suddenly find their voices. Why? Is it because the killers in the Middle Belt are predominantly Fulani militias, while the Edo killings were an isolated mob action?

Violence is violence, and injustice anywhere should be condemned with the same moral clarity. Selective outrage only fuels further division, and Nigeria cannot afford that.

If leaders like Atiku, Kwankwaso, and Tinubu truly care about justice, they must speak up for all victims—not just those that serve their political interests.

Silence in the face of evil is complicity.

Nairaland / General / GPFN Condemns Uromi Lynching, Demands Thorough, Impartial Investigation by Jatuski: 9:27am On Mar 29
The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN) has expressed deep concerns over the tragic killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State, in an apparent act of mob lynching.

A statement signed by the Country Director, GPFN, Dr. Joseph John Hayab, made available at the weekend, said that this disturbing incident highlights the urgent need to reinforce societal values, uphold the rule of law, and foster peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

"As an organization committed to the vision of One Family under God, GPFN reiterates the importance of unity and mutual respect across all ethnic and religious divides. Every Nigerian, irrespective of background, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Acts of violence and jungle justice not only erode the moral fabric of our society but also hinder national progress and stability.

"We commend the swift response of security agencies in apprehending suspects linked to this incident. However, we urge the government and law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation to uncover the facts and ensure justice is served in strict adherence to the rule of law," the statement said.

Furthermore, GPFN called on the government to urgently address the lingering insecurity that has turned every Nigerian into a suspect, fueling unnecessary fear and distrust among citizens.

"The failure to decisively tackle insecurity has contributed to the rise in mob actions and jungle justice, which threaten the nation's social cohesion and legal order.

"The growing climate of fear and suspicion underscores the need for comprehensive security sector reforms. We implore the government, civil society organizations, and community leaders to collaborate in restoring public confidence in the justice system and implementing proactive security measures.

"GPFN urges Nigerians to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Instead, citizens should report suspicious activities to appropriate authorities and engage in constructive dialogue to resolve disputes peacefully. Public awareness campaigns should be intensified to educate people on the perils of mob justice and the importance of tolerance and understanding.

"This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in fostering a culture of peace, justice, and respect for human dignity. GPFN remains committed to working with all stakeholders to build a nation where unity and peace prevail.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this heartbreaking tragedy," it said.

Nairaland / General / AYCF Condemns Killing Of 16 Travelers In Edo by Jatuski: 4:06pm On Mar 28
*Demands Justice

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has condemned in strong terms, the mob action that resulted to the death of 16 travellers in Edo State.

This was expressed in a statement signed by the AYCF President General, Yerima Shetima, dated Friday March 28, 2025.

"The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) stands united in its outrage and condemnation of the horrific events that transpired on Thursday in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi, Edo State, where 16 innocent travelers from Northern Nigeria tragically lost their lives due to a horrifying display of mob injustice.

"These victims, primarily Hausa hunters, were en route from Port Harcourt to Kano to celebrate the Sallah festivities when they fell prey to a brutal and misguided attack, fueled by false accusations and sheer ignorance.

"It is with deep sorrow that we learnt that these individuals were intercepted around 1:30 p.m. by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes," the statement said.

According to the statement titled, "Condemnation of Mob Injustice in Uromi, Edo State: A Call for Justice and Accountability", AYCF said that the subsequent actions of an irate mob, incited by unfounded claims of kidnapping, led to a grotesque act of barbarism that is both regrettable and unacceptable.

"The mob’s actions resulted in the loss of 16 precious lives, with some bodies tragically trapped inside the vehicle that was set ablaze.

" Eyewitness accounts reveal the horrifying scene where some victims were removed on wheelbarrows and thrown into the flames, a chilling testament to the sickening reality of mob justice that has taken root in most Southern Nigerian communities.

"The AYCF vehemently denounces this act of mob violence and calls for immediate and thorough investigations into this grotesque tragedy. We demand that the authorities take swift and decisive action against those responsible for inciting and participating in this heinous crime. It is imperative that justice is served not only for the victims and their grieving families but also to restore faith in our justice system, which must not be overshadowed by the lawlessness of a mob.

"We recognize the pain and anger that this incident has caused within the Hausa community in Uromi and beyond. However, we urge our brothers and sisters to remain calm and peaceful while also being vigilant. It is essential to resist the temptation for retaliation and instead seek justice through lawful means.

"The AYCF stands ready to support the community in advocating for their rights and ensuring that such an atrocity is never repeated," it said.

The group therefore, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and called upon the relevant authorities to act swiftly in bringing the perpetrators of this mob injustice to justice.

"We must work together to build a society where dialogue and understanding prevail over violence and ignorance.

"The AYCF remains committed to promoting peace, justice, and unity among all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic or regional backgrounds," it said.

Politics / Sexual Harassment : Group Calls For Akpabio’s Resignation, Cites Interfference by Jatuski: 8:28pm On Mar 26
A political pressure group, Action Collective, (AC), has called for the immediate resignation of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Senator Neda Imasuen, to allow for an impartial investigation into allegations against the Senate President.

The group said their continued stay in office could compromise the integrity of any probe.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Onimisi Ibrahim, expressed concern over the handling of the sexual harassment case filed against Senator Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, particularly following the recent withdrawal of Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The judge, who was presiding over the case, reportedly stepped down due to immense pressure, a situation the group described as "deeply troubling and a threat to judicial independence."

According Action Collective, the Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee, which should play a crucial role in investigating the allegations, cannot be trusted under the leadership of Senator Imasuen, given his political ties to the Senate President.

“The only way to ensure a fair and transparent process is for both Akpabio and Imasuen to step aside and allow an independent inquiry to take place,” the group stated.

The pressure group further warned that the credibility of the National Assembly was at stake, emphasizing that Nigerians were watching closely.

“A legislature that cannot uphold ethical standards and protect victims of misconduct loses the moral right to perform oversight functions on the executive and judiciary,” the statement read.

It added that failure to act decisively on the matter could erode public trust in the Senate.

The group also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to shield the Senate President from scrutiny, describing the developments surrounding the case as a calculated attempt to silence Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

It called on civil society organizations and pro-democracy groups to demand accountability from the leadership of the Senate and ensure that justice is not obstructed.

Politics / Senator Akpoti-uduaghan Rejects Purported Apology, Insists On Her Position by Jatuski: 5:17pm On Mar 24
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has denied purported reports suggesting that she has apologized to the Nigerian Senate over the controversy that led to her suspension.

In a statement on Monday, March 24, 2025, the lawmaker described the claims as "false and misleading," reaffirming her stance on the issue that resulted in her six-month suspension.

"The purported reports circulating that I have apologized to the Senate and retracted my position are completely untrue. I stand firmly by my words and actions, and I have not issued any apology to the Senate or anyone regarding this matter," Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated.

"It is unfortunate that some individuals are peddling falsehoods in an attempt to distort the truth and mislead the public."

The senator, who was suspended following a heated exchange with Senate leadership, maintained that she remains committed to standing by her principles and defending the rights of her constituents. She accused unnamed individuals of attempting to manipulate public perception through fabricated statements.

"I urge the public to disregard these rumours and publications as they do not represent my position. My commitment remains to truth, justice, and the people I represent," she said.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also expressed concerns over what she described as an orchestrated campaign to silence her voice in the National Assembly.

"This is not just about me; it is about the integrity of our democracy. I will not be intimidated or forced into submission through false narratives," she added.

She called on her constituents and Nigerians to remain vigilant against misinformation, emphasizing that any official statement from her would come directly from her verified channels

"I appreciate the support and solidarity of my people. Rest assured, I will continue to fight for what is right and just," she declared.

Politics / Niger Delta Youth Leader Calls For Unity, Legal Action Amid Rivers State Crisis by Jatuski: 8:00pm On Mar 21
Amid the political turmoil in Rivers State, which led to the declaration of a State of Emergency and the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Niger Delta Youth Leader, Comrade Gbenga Fajoye, has urged calm and unity among the region’s youth.

Speaking to journalists on Friday at his Delta State residence, Fajoye commended High Chiefs George Tompolo and Kestin Pondi for their leadership in maintaining peace and securing vital oil infrastructure.

He acknowledged their efforts in preventing pipeline vandalism and ensuring uninterrupted oil production.

"The pipelines and the resources they carry belong to the Niger Delta people. Their destruction would only push us backward.

"I commend High Chiefs Tompolo and Pondi for their unwavering commitment to protecting these assets and maintaining regional stability." Fajoye stated.

As the Chairman of the Association of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (UYAN), Fajoye praised Governor Fubara’s composed response to the State of Emergency, contrasting it with potential unrest in other parts of the country.

"Governor Fubara has shown exceptional maturity in his reaction to President Bola Tinubu’s announcement. In some states, this situation could have sparked widespread protests. Instead, Governor Fubara has called for calm, proving himself to be a true leader in a time of crisis," he said.

Fajoye further urged Governor Fubara to challenge his suspension in court, arguing that the Presidency lacks the constitutional power to remove a sitting governor.

"Governor Fubara must not accept this unconstitutional action. He should seek legal redress immediately because the law is clear—the President does not have the authority to remove a governor," Fajoye asserted.

He also called on Niger Delta youth to remain united, support Governor Fubara, and uphold democratic principles.

"Now more than ever, we must stand together and support our leadership, while maintaining peace. Violence and division will only serve the interests of those who do not care about the Niger Delta’s future," he emphasized.

Fajoye’s statement highlights the need for legal action, unity, and peaceful resolution in navigating the ongoing crisis in Rivers State and the broader Niger Delta region.

Religion / Physical Disabilities Not Barrier For Contributing To Peace, Nation-building by Jatuski: 7:52am On Mar 21
The Country Director of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Rev Joseph John Hayab has said that Physical disabilities is not a barrier for contributing to peace and nation-building.

Rev Hayab made this statement at a One-Day Awareness Campaign on the Role of Persons with Disability in Promoting Peace.

The event took place on Saturday, March 15, 2024 at the Arewa House Kaduna organized by The Improvement in Respect to Social Status of Disability (IRSSD) in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN) aimed at promoting a more inclusive society where all community of people have a sense of belonging and can contribute meaningfully to the peaceful, harmonious and socio-economic growth and development of society.

The event was attended by government officials as well as men, women and children with various forms of disabilities from various communities in Kaduna.

Rev. Hayab who was represented at the event by Abdul Ahmed, the organization’s Senior Programmes Manager said GPF Nigeria is always happy and proud to associate with the special community of people, testament of its drive for a more inclusive society.

Rev. Hayab who stated that, “peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, inclusion, and mutual respect,” added that true peace can only be achieved when every member of society, regardless of ability is not only given a voice, but also provided with the opportunity and a level playing ground to maximize their potentials.

He added that the event was a testament to GPFN’s collective commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are not only included in peacebuilding efforts but are also recognized as active contributors to societal harmony.

Speaking further, Rev. Hayab said, “at Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, we strongly believe that inclusivity is a fundamental pillar of peacebuilding. So, we remain committed to advancing the ideal of One Family Under God; recognizing that all human beings share a common human heritage and root, hence advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities and fostering an environment where everyone, irrespective of their physical or cognitive abilities, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Furthermore, the Country Director of GPFN asserted that “the challenges faced by persons with disabilities are not just their burden but ours as a society. We must work together—government agencies, security personnel, civil society organizations, and the general public—to remove barriers and ensure a society where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered.”

He said the gathering serves as a platform to amplify voices, share experiences, and inspire action toward a more inclusive and peaceful Nigeria. He therefore urged guests at the event to reflect on practical ways to support persons with disabilities in our communities, calling for a move beyond rhetoric to real, tangible actions that promote their rights, welfare, and full participation in all aspects of life.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Director, Improvement in Respect to Social Status of Disability, Dr. Micah Shabi appreciated willingness of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria to partner with them for the program which has now become an annual convocation of people with disability in Kaduna State.

Dr. Shabi who described as unfortunate, the level of neglect the community of people with disability are subjected to by both government, faith institutions and society has made poverty and begging for livelihood and survival to become the identity of most of them.

He therefore, called for help and support towards a better life for persons with disability.

He also appreciated the kind gestures from the Country Director of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria who some months ago encouraged some women with disabilities to start up small scale trading for which he gave them financial support.

Buttressing the importance of peace, Dr. Shabi said, “many times people talk about how crisis affect society but little is being said about how it affects people with disability as some of us do not hear the call to run, some of us do not see hence can run into the camp of our enemy, some of us cannot ask for help and some of us cannot move to places of safety without being carried.”

That according to him, shows that people with disabilities are the most affected by conflict, hence have no choice but to work for peace.

He however, submitted that even though their efforts toward peace often go unnoticed, the people with disability in Kaduna are lovers of peace and remain committed to working for peace. Dr. Shabi concluded by advocating for a holistic and inclusive approach to peacebuilding efforts because people with disability also have something to contribute to peacebuilding.

Guests at the event included Hajiya Rakiya Umar, the Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Disability Affairs Board and a representative of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, while special performances by some people with various forms of disabilities added color to the event.

Politics / No Court Vacated Order Restraining Senate From Trying Natasha - Group by Jatuski: 10:05pm On Mar 20
*Fixes Tuesday March 25 to address contemptuous act

A pressure group, Action Collective has asked Nigerians to disregard speculation making the rounds regarding a non-existing order vacating the earlier order against the Senate in the ongoing case involving Senator Natasha Uduaghan.

The group said a Federal High Court in Abuja Abuja had rather clarified that it never vacated its earlier order restraining the Senate from subjecting Senator Natasha Uduaghan to investigation over the alleged sexual harassment against the Senate President Goodwill Akpabio.

The group said the court did not consider the Plaintiff’s application for mandatory injunction invoking its disciplinary jurisdiction but prioritised the motion of the Senate which was only filed on Monday the 17th day of March, 2025.

A Kogi based group while debunking the rumour through a statement Thursday in Abuja, said that order was subsisting.

A section of the media had erroneously reported that the restraining order against the Senate Committee on Ethics had been vacated.

The group said while the Senate, in spite of the restraining order, went ahead to sit and tried Natasha leading to the pronouncement of her six months suspension.

"They equally filed an application which was vehemently opposed by the Plaintiff’s counsel, Michael Numa SAN, who emphasized the contemptuous actions of the Senate in defying the Court’s orders.

"Numa argued that the Senate was not entitled to any further orders from the same Court it had disrespected.

"After standing down the matter for a few hours the Judge returned to deliver a ruling, offering clarification on the scope of Order 4. And contrary to the interpretation sought by the 2nd Defendant (Senate) that the order (restraining order)was meant to halt the entire legislative function of the Senate, the Court noted that from the material before it that the National Assembly has been carrying out its legislative functions without an hindrance.

"The Court went further to clarify that owing to the varying interpretations of the order, it will set aside the consequential aspects of Order 4 which was simply meant to give effect to the predicate orders."

The group declared that contrary to false reports circulating,"the Court did not set aside Orders 1, 2, or 3, which included orders restraining the Senate’s Ethics Committee from continuing with its investigation into the Plaintiff’s alleged conduct while the Motion for a Interlocutory injunction remained pending.

The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), in collaboration with the Kukah Center on Wednesday March 19, 2025, distributed food items as Ramadan palliatives to 196 households in Unguwan Shanu-Abakwa and Hayin Banki wards.

The beneficiaries, comprising women from both Christian and Muslim communities, received the aid as part of efforts to foster interfaith engagement and strengthen religious harmony.

The initiative aimed at promoting peace and understanding among women of diverse ethno-religious backgrounds, particularly in communities that have previously experienced religious violence.

Many of the beneficiaries expressed mixed emotions as they reunited with long-lost friends displaced by past conflicts.

The food distribution served not only to alleviate hardship but also to bridge divides and enhance religious tolerance among women.

Speaking on behalf of the Country Director of GPFN, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the Senior Programme Manager, Mr. Abdul Ahmed, reiterated that the initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to interfaith harmony under the ideal of One Family Under God.

"As we break our fasts and gather with loved ones, let us also open our hearts to one another, extending kindness beyond religious lines.

"The challenges we face—whether poverty, hunger, or conflict—do not discriminate based on faith, and neither should our acts of goodwill. Let us use this season to not only nourish our bodies but also strengthen the spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence in our communities.

"Together, we can build a society where mutual respect and cooperation become the foundation for lasting peace," he said.

Mr. Ahmed further encouraged beneficiaries to share their blessings by extending their generosity to others in need, reminding them that true peace is nurtured when communities support one another.

Fr. Onuh reaffirmed Kukah Center’s commitment to working with GPFN in advancing peace and unity across communities.

This collaborative effort highlights the crucial role of women in peacebuilding and showcases the importance of interfaith initiatives in fostering lasting social cohesion in Nigeria.

Politics / Kogi Group Uncovers Plan To Silence Natasha Using Constituents For Recall by Jatuski: 12:58pm On Mar 19
A desperate plan to compile faceless names from Kogi State purportedly seeking for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate has been uncovered.

The plan, according to Kogi Central based pressure group on the platform of Action Collective, made the revelation public on Wednesday.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is presently serving six months suspension slammed on her over the sexual harassment allegation against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

A statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, signed by its coordinator, Dr. Onimisi Ibrahim, said intelligence also revealed that allies of those fighting Senator Natasha in the Nigerian Senate are behind the plot.

According to the group, findings revealed that the latest move is considered by Senator Natasha's traducers as 'nailing the coffin' to prevent her from seeking justice which she is currently pursuing both here in Nigeria and from the international community.

"We gathered reliably that a former governor in Kogi state has been contacted to carry out this evil plan. We also have an information that some ally INEC staff have also been recruited to commence the recall of Senator Natasha.

"This project which is said to gulped over two million dollars, will involve the recruitment of faceless persons from the various local government areas in Kogi State who would be paid to append false signatures on the purported recall paper," the group alleged.

The statement also alleged that some highly placed staff of INEC have been paid huge sums of money to carry out and endorse the plan, adding,"that is why it is important to alert the public especially the civil society and Human Rights Activists including the Media, who are the watchdog of the society as well as the security agencies to remain vigilant and subject such documents regarding the planned recall to proper scrutining. A stitch in time saves nine!."

Politics / Benue Judicial Crisis: Coalition Protests In Abuja, Petitions NJC by Jatuski: 4:15pm On Mar 17
*Demands expunging of corrupt judges

*Warns Tinubu against folding arms over controversial Supreme Court Rivers State judgment

A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Monday held a peaceful march in Abuja with a call on the authorities to wade into the alleged politicization of the judiciary in the country.

The protesters who brandished several banners and placards with inscriptions as "Enough of crooked court orders", "We want independence of the judiciary", "NJC must act now", "Save the Nigeria judiciary, the time is now", and "Corrupt judges must be expunged from the system now" as they marched though the road linking the federal Secretariat complex to the precinct of the court of Appeal to register their grievances on the alleged abuse of the judiciary.

Chief Convener of the Coalition, Comrade Igwe Ude-Umanta who submitted a petition on the issue to the National Judicial council (NJC), singled out the controversial decisions of the courts in Benue and Rivers states as instances where judicial officers have allegedly taken politically motivated decision in breach of laid down rules and regulations.

The protesters frowned at the Benue State Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese and Justice M. M Adamu of the Abuja High court who they claimed "by their actions have converted the title of justice to injustice."

The protesters said it behoves on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekereke-Ekun and the National Judicial council (NJC) to expunge corrupt judges off the Nigerian judiciary in order to restore the integrity of the judiciary.

The coalition is called on President Bola Tinubu and ruling APC leaders to urgently intervene to avoid anarchy in Benue State.

Justifying their claim, they alleged: "How on earth could a Chief Judge of a state flagrantly abuse his office by flouting the state laws and the National Judicial Council (NJC) is quiet? Justice Maurice Ikpambese, the Chief Judge of Benue State unilaterally granted a waiver to petitioners of Local Government Election Tribunal not to pay security deposit, a constitutional prerequisite for any valid petition and he has not been sanctioned.

"On the strength of the refusal of the NJC to punish him, he again violated the Electoral Laws of Benue State when he relocated the Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal to Abuja which is clearly off territorial jurisdiction in clear violation of the Benue State Electoral Law, yet the NJC is just watching.

"In an attempt to protect the constitution of Nigeria and the laws of Benue State, the Attorney General of Benue State approached the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi which granted an order restraining the Tribunal from sitting anywhere outside Benue State including the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) house Abuja. This order was granted on the 7th of March 2025 to the admiration of Nigerians.

"Surprisingly, on Friday 14th March 2025, an FCT High Court 34 presided by Justice M.M Adamu frivolously issued another order compelling the Benue State Local Government Election Tribunal Tribunal to conduct sitting in Abuja and particularly at the NBA house.

"The question is, can the Benue State laws be applied in the FCT or any other state other than Benue State? if the answer is NO, it is also clear that the Benue State Local Government Election Tribunal can not sit outside Benue State.

"Justice M.M Adamu is a saboteur in the judiciary who has abandoned his oaths of office. Therefore, he is no longer fit to be a judge anywhere in in the world. There is no justice near M.M Adamu for granting an order of Court against the Electoral laws of Benue State."

Continuing, they noted: "Honourable CJN Ma, under your watch, the Supreme Court descended into live issues in Rivers State and decided a case that is not before it when it held that, Matthew Ameawhule is the Speaker of the House of Assembly while the case is still pending in the High Court and Appeal Court respectively.

"The judgment of the Supreme Court has been criticized by the 11- Man Independent Judicial Accountability panel headed by a retired Justice Mojeed Omoade. As part of its recommendations, the panel held that “politicians should generally avoid undue influence on the judiciary and be more accommodating of each other in the interest of their people.

"It also urged the government at all levels to obey court orders and respect the fundamental rights of citizens in a democracy, decrying that over nine months after the ECOWAS Court awarded damages to victims of the October 2020 End SARS protest, the Federal Government had yet to comply with the judgment.

"We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to fold his arm as the judiciary is been bastardised on daily bases. Mr President sir, the Benue situation is the worst at the moment because, the petitioners did not even participate in any of the process of the election.

"The petitioners ordinarily have no locus to approach the Tribunal because the Austin Agada led APC executive was dissolved and a Caretaker Committee inaugurated before the Justice Theresa Igoche's order restraining the National Working Committee of the APC from dissolving the Benue State Executive, was served."

Politics / 2027: Northern Youth Leaders Reject El-rufai, Back Obi/lawal Or Fintiri Ticket by Jatuski: 3:57pm On Mar 12
*Eye Uzor-Kalu as backup candidate

Ahead of the 2027 Presidential elections, a prominent coalition of over 40 groups, Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF), has made public its rejection of any ticket that would include former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai.

President of NYLF, Comrade Eliot Afiyo disclosed this, when fielding questions from newsmen in Abeokuta on Wednesday March 12, 2025, after visiting one of its patrons, ex President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He explained that their preferred candidate that they would back, is Labour Party 2023 Presidential flag bearer, Mr. Peter Obi, with Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, or Adamawa State Governor, Umar Fintiri as his running mate.

"On the Presidency, we don’t rush to the press without getting clearance from our patrons.

"We have concluded our consultations and I am glad to inform you that the only ticket that can unite the Northerners to get bloc votes are either Obi-Dauda Lawal, Obi-Fintiri, Orji Kalu-Dauda Lawal or Kalu-Fintiri," he said.

He explained that this is a decision of the forum on national issues especially the 2027
national issues, of the groups formed by Northern political, military and Traditional Elites on the 26th of September 1994.

Explaining further, he said that Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State or Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State are the only between the Northerners, while Peter Obi and Senator Orji Kalu are also personalities that can secure the South-East and garner the sympathy votes from the North.

"This is based on our research findings. But the Muslim North especially the clerics are considering it as political
blunder to change this government as we did in 2015, then the North will lose," he said.

He warned that if the North fails to get its calculations right in 2027, it might be going into political wilderness.

Politics / 2027: Support Groups Ask Tinubu, Ganduje To Intervene In Benue APC Crisis by Jatuski: 5:17pm On Mar 06
Ahead of 2027 general elections, the national leadership of all the support groups of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party's National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to urgently wade in to the ongoing judiciary crisis in Benue State to avoid pending danger and threat to democracy.

The APC support groups also raised alarm that opposition political parties may hijack the crisis to frustrate performance of APC government in Benue state and target President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of 2027 general elections.

Addressing a press conference, Thursday at the national secretariat of APC in Abuja, the support groups, led by its Director General, Dr. Ak Peters, insisted that the decision of the National Working Committee and National Executive Committee must be respected by all party faithful.

Recalled that the NWC had acted on the powers of National Executive Committee (NEC) desolved its Benue State Executives led by Hon. Austin Agada, and constituted a unity caretaker committee in February 2024, bringing to an end, the waring factions within the party in Benue state.

However, the former state chairman went to court to challenge the decision of the NEC over the desolation of Benue State chapter and the inauguration of the unity caretaker committee.

While reacting to the development, the support groups leader said: "As the forum of support groups leaders, we are disappointed that the former chairman went to court to challenge the party against the party's constitution which states that members must exhaust all internal mechanism to resolve an issue before going to the court, yet, the National leadership is just watching.

"We understand that the ongoing crisis in Benue is as a result of the decision of the NWC acting on the powers of NEC which changed the leadership of the party in Benue State and the party must wade in to defend its decision by maintaining party supremacy as enshrined in our constitution.

"We strongly call on the national leadership of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr Abdullahi Umar Gandje to immediately wade in to the pending danger and threat to democracy in Benue State.

"We strongly observe that the Benue State Chief Judge is being used by the opposition not only to frustrate our performing government in Benue state but also a direct attack on our amiable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of 2027 general elections. Therefore, our party leadership and the presidency must take a stand now before some anti-democratic forces and enemies of our party hijack the ongoing evil plot.

"We stand by the decision of the party and the confidence reposed on Mr. President and our National Chairman at the just concluded NEC of our party.

"We insist that Mr. President must save democracy as the decision of the National Working Committee and National Executive Committee must be respected by all party faithful."

While condemning the actions of the Benue State Chief Judge, the APC support groups said: "We have it in good authority that the Chief Judge of Benue State has relocated the Benue State Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal from Makurdi to Abuja after granting a waver to the petitioners not to pay security deposit as required by the law, citing hardship in the land.

There is no section of the constitution or laws of Benue State that empowers the Chief Judge to grant waver to the petitioners or move a local government tribunal from the state of jurisdiction to Abuja.

"Lawyers have started arguing that any decision taken by the tribunal in Abuja is null and void as an election conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission can only be entertained in the state.

"The Chief Judge in his circular cited security reason, meanwhile he has been going to his office amidst his purported removal by the Benue State House of Assembly without any security threat.

"The Benue State government which is the funder of the tribunal also issued statement insisting that the government of the State is not aware of the relocation and assured the public that it could provide adequate security for the tribunal.

"The Chief Judge, who acted altra vires when he favoured the petitioners whose petition were to be dismissed also emphasised on hardship in the land in a bid to blackmail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration while protecting the petitioners. The same Chief Judge has relocated the whole tribunal from Benue State to Abuja even though he has no powers to do so.

"The question is between the relocation of the tribunal which means transporting and accommodating lawyers and witnesses to Abuja and the security posit to be paid in to the court, which is more a burden to the people?

"It is now clear that there is an attempt to truly undermine the party's national leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Benue State Chief Judge who has abandoned justice for trivial sentiment."

Politics / Rivers Lawmakers' Defection: Frank Raises Alarm Over Plot To Tamper S'court Rule by Jatuski: 12:57pm On Mar 04
A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political activist, Comrade Timi Frank, has called on the Supreme Court Chief Justice and the Panel of Justices who heard the recent Rivers State case not to allow desperate attempts to tamper the original judgment.

Frank alleged that there were plots by some persons loyal to a former governor of Rivers State to import the issue of defection, which is still at the Appeal Court, into the recent judgement to undermine the ongoing cases.

Raising the alarm through a statement released to newsmen Tuesday in Abuja, Comrade Frank, who described the move as a "desperate lobby to smuggle into the Judgment an aspect which was not decided" accused some loyalists of a former Rivers State governor as brains behind the move.

"There is an ongoing plot to doctor the Supreme Court Judgement on Rivers and insert issues of defection that were not litigated by the parties by the pro-Wike group to help destroy the pending cases on defection before the Appeal Court and Federal High Court.

According to him, the issue of defection and legal battle to decide whether they were right or wrong is presently at the Appeal Court and Federal High Court, where Nigerians are waiting to see the judicial interpretation of the illegal act of cross carpeting at a time there was no division which was also backed by a court affidavit sworn to by the defected lawmakers.

"We are calling on the Supreme Court Chief Justice and the Panel of Justices who heard the case to ensure that the desperate attempts of the Wike group do not taint their Judgement and that the issue of defection, which is still at the Appeal Court, is not imported into the Judgement to undermine the ongoing cases. We are confident that the eminent jurist who delivered the Judgment knows the issues at stake and will not fail Nigerians by ensuring that a check is put on the Wike group's political madness and desperation, which is threatening constitutional democracy in Nigeria.

"I have just been reliably informed of a last minute desperate moves by Former Gov.Wike and his lawyers working with some elements in the Supreme Court to use the ongoing writing of the Recently delivered Judgement of the Supreme Court on the issue of Rivers LGA election and presentation of Budget to smuggle an item which was never the substantive matter that the Supreme Court decided and which was never part of what was read in the open Court, the issue of the legality of the decampment of the Wike loyal lawmakers from PDP to APC at a time there was no crisis.

"This desperate move, which will rubbish the integrity of the Supreme Court if not stopped by our respected jurist, will do irredeemable damage to our nation's apex and respected Court.

"The move is to insert over two pages of strange ruling on defection, knowing fully well that the illegal defection of the Wike group of lawmakers was not the subject matter before the Court, but rather on the issue of conduct of LGA election and Amaewhule's claim to speakership based on cases they filled even before their defection.

"What they want to push into the Judgment secretly was never part of the ruling of the lower courts or the Supreme Court. They are already celebrating, and my contact in the chamber of one of their lawyers has shown me a draft of what they are confident will be inserted today ahead of the release of the typed CTC of the Judgment today or tomorrow."

Politics / Rivers S'court Order: Hold Tinubu, Kekere-ekun Responsible For Breach Of Peace by Jatuski: 2:41pm On Mar 02
*Says judgment anti-truth, anti-God, inhuman, anti-justice, compromised

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Timi Frank, on Sunday, condemned the Supreme Court judgment that ordered the withdrawal of monthly allocation to local government areas in Rivers State.

Frank who rejected the judgment and described it as criminal usurpation of allocation rightly belonging to Rivers people, called on Nigerians and members of the international community to hold President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, responsible for any breach of peace and anarchy that may arise from the people’s anger over the gross miscarriage of justice.

Frank who made these assertions in a statement in Abuja, said: “From the illegal judgment which came out from the Supreme Court against the Rivers State Government, the whole world knows that this is the most fraudulent judgment ever delivered in the history of Nigeria.

“How can the Supreme Court give this kind of anti-truth, anti-God, inhuman, anti-justice and compromised judgment that is obviously meant to give the opposition APC the leeway to take over Rivers State?

“This is a clear indication that the Supreme Court under Justice Kekere-Ekun has no capacity to reform the judiciary but rather arresting justice and selling it to the highest bidder.

“Besides, it is clear that all the justices that heard this matter merely ruled in favour of their paymaster notwithstanding the interest of the people and the need for peace, stability and development of Rivers,

“However, we are not surprised by the ruling especially when we know that the judiciary is the biggest beneficiary from the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike right from his days as a governor to being the Minister of the FCT.”

The political activist who is also the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, added: “So any case that involves Wike’s interest in any part of Nigeria, they must definitely rule in his favour.

“But we warn the CJN to know that this judicial rascality, which is now the order of the day in the country under her watch, will set Nigeria on fire ans plunge the country into avoidable anarchy.

“We make bold to say that everybody knows that the suspended 27 lawmakers from River State, illegally defected from PDP to APC and despite this kangaroo judgement, they are no more members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“By giving order to withhold the local government allocation to Rivers State is to weaken and undermine the Siminalayi Fubara’s administration and using the order of court to starve the people of Rivers State that voted Fubara to power.”

He lamented that despite the judicial overreach, and attempt to foist illegality in Rivers State, President Tinubu sees noting wrong with the affront on democracy in Rivers and by extension, Nigeria despite purportedly claiming to be a defender of democracy.

He accused the present administration, led by Tinubu of plotting to take over Rivers State at all cost, by empowering the illegitimate and suspended lawmakers through the courts to impeach Fubara.

He however urged the Rivers people, despite the broad day judicial robbery, not to give up the struggle but to stand strong and mobilise necessary support for Fubara who is fighting to save Rivers’ common wealth and defend the nation’s constitution.

Politics / June 12: Timi Frank Urges Tinubu To Declare MKO President Posthumously by Jatuski: 1:04pm On Feb 28
*Pay his salaries, entitlement for 8 years as President

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Thursday, urged President Bola Tinubu to validate the results of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and posthumously declare the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Moshood Kasimowo Olawale Abiola winner.

The political activist also urged President to do the needful by equally pay all salaries and entitlement due to him for the eight years he would have served the country to his family.

Frank, in a statement in Abuja, said the call has become necessary since former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) retired, who annulled the election has owned up to the validity of results.

IBB had during the public presentation of his book, titled: ‘A Journey in Service’, blamed former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha and other forces for instigating his annulment of June 12, 1993 presidential election which he admitted that MKO Abiola won.

In his reaction, Frank equally called on IBB to as a mark of penitence, remit all the money he has realised from his book launch to MKO Abiola’s family.

Frank said: “I don’t think Tinubu should waste any more time in officially declaring Abiola President and according him all the entitlements and recognition due him as former president.

“He can do this by sending a Bill to the National Assembly to recognise the June 12, 1993 presidential election and lawfully validate the results and declare MKO as the winner of the election.

“Good enough, Tinubu was at the forefront of the June 12 Struggle which was principally aimed at getting the General Sani Abacha’s junta to recognize Abiola as President and hand over power to him.”

The Bayelsa-born political activist who is also the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, said it was not enough for IBB to express regret over the illegal annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election which was adjudged as the most peaceful, freest and fairest election conducted in Nigeria so far, he must apologise and beg Nigerians for forgiveness.

“IBB must apologize to Abiola’s family and Nigerians who continue to bear the negative consequences of his wicked, satanic, inhuman, anti-people and anti-God action when he single-handedly voided the election, an act which later culminated in the untimely death of Abiola in military custody.

“Until IBB atones for his sins and Tinubu officially recognizes Abiola as a former president of Nigeria, IBB will remain culpable and eternally blamable,” Frank said.
