CrimeApapa Customs Intercepts 1.8tonnes Of Canadian Loud by Jatuski(op): 8:30am On Jun 17
*Seizes Expired Pharmaceuticals in Major Intelligence-Led Operations

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has recorded yet another significant breakthrough in its sustained fight against transnational organized crime, illicit trade, threats to national security and public health.

Acting on credible, actionable intelligence and utilizing advanced risk assessment tools, officers of the Command in collaboration with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Monday June 15, 2026 at about 1200hrs successfully intercepted 1 x 40FT container with number CAAU7569127 conveying a large consignment of Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as “Canadian Loud.”

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer Apapa Area Command, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Isah Sulaiman said that the operation led to the recovery of 3,639 sachets of the illicit substance, with each sachet weighing 500 grams.

This brings the total weight to approximately 1,819 kilograms (1.81 tonnes). Preliminary field tests conducted on the substance returned positive results for Cannabis Sativa.

The drugs were cleverly concealed inside a black Toyota Nissan vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, along with several bags and drums loaded inside the container.

This intelligence-driven interception highlights the Command’s enhanced capacity to detect and dismantle sophisticated smuggling networks attempting to exploit Nigeria’s maritime entry points.

The examination was carried out in collaboration with key security and regulatory agencies.

In a related development, the Command intercepted 2 x 40FT containers loaded with expired pharmaceutical products illegally imported into the country.

Physical examination revealed that the pharmaceutical products have varied expiry date of 2021, 2022 and 2023 which the importers planned to relabel and reintroduce into the Nigerian market, posing serious health risks to unsuspecting consumers.

The 1 x 40FT with number PCIU8771576 contained expired pharmaceuticals including Cidoxilin Capsules, Cynamine Vitamin B12 Injection and Becoline B-Complex Injection. While, 1 x 40FT container with number MRKU4961275 contained various expired medical products such as Oxytocin Injection, Mexclor Eye Drops, Avomex Tablets, Carbamazepine Tablets, Silymarin Tablets, Nystatin Tablets, Hyoscine Butylbromide Tablets.

The seized items have a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Twelve Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Four Million, Four Hundred and Seventy-Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Forty-One Naira, Seventy-Two Kobo (₦12,784,479,341.72k) only.

This substantial seizure highlights the scale of the attempted economic sabotage and underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to protecting national security, public health and the Nigerian economy through intelligence-driven enforcement operations.

These interceptions prevented potentially harmful and ineffective medications from entering hospitals, pharmacies and homes across Nigeria.

These successes demonstrate that the Apapa Area Command’s enforcement strategy is anchored on intelligence gathering, strategic profiling, data analysis and strong stakeholder collaboration.

The Command continues to deploy modern techniques to target high-risk consignments while facilitating legitimate trade in line with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda.

Commenting on the seizures, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba warned that, “unpatriotic importers and their collaborators who deliberately engage in smuggling, drug trafficking and the importation of expired pharmaceuticals are enemies of Nigeria’s progress.

"We have the intelligence, the technology and the resolve to identify and apprehend them. Anyone still contemplating these criminal acts should immediately desist, because the consequences will be swift, decisive and uncompromising. Apapa Port will not be used as a conduit for economic sabotage and public health endangerment.”

Comptroller Oshoba further warned that Apapa Port and all Customs-controlled areas remain under constant surveillance.

"The entire Officers of the Command remain resolute in protecting the Nigerian economy, safeguarding public health and preventing criminal exploitation of the nation’s borders.

"The CAC reassures all Nigerians of the Command's commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to protect lives, secure legitimate trade and uphold national security," he said.

Politics2027: Ebonyi Group Accuses Nwifuru Of “deceiving” Ezza Clan, Backs PDP Candidate by Jatuski(op): 4:44pm On Jun 16
The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora (AEISCID), has accused Governor Francis Nwifuru of “deceiving” the Ezza clan to secure support for his 2027 re-election bid, while throwing its weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in Abuja, AEISCID President, Ambassador Paschal Oluchukwu said Nwifuru’s absence from a second-term endorsement rally organized by the Ezza Elders Council at Onueke Township Stadium was telling.

“The absence of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru- a prime beneficiary who rather preferred to send his Deputy, Princess Patricia Obila to represent him at the occasion of his endorsement for a second term in office by the great people of Ezza Ezekuna worldwide does not only paint a dangerous negative picture of utter negligence of the great Ezza clan but also casts a strong shadow of doubt on the sincerity of his alleged avowals to handover power to the populous Ezza-Ezekuna clan after his possible second in 2031,” the statement read.

“For us, nothing would have been more reassuring for the great people of Ezza Ezekuna than a physical presence at the so-called second term endorsement rally at Onueke and a consequent public promise to handover power to an Ezza man in 2031.”

The group said it had reviewed both the Ezza Elders Council rally in Onueke, Ezza South LGA, and a separate World Press Conference by the Umuekumenyi Leaders Council in Abakaliki. The Umuekumenyi bloc, drawn from eight LGAs, had endorsed the PDP candidate for 2027.

“Following the superb and logical argument above and consequent upon the endorsement of the candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP by the Umuekumenyi Leaders Council for the 2027 Governorship election in Ebonyi State, we align ourselves completely with the leaders of Ekumenyi and commend them for their erudite wisdom and daunting courage to arrive at the decision to rescue Ebonyi State from the trenches of lackluster governance and develomental backwardness which the State has been plunged into in the past three years of Governor Nwifuru's ascension to power,” Oluchukwu stated.

AEISCID said it agreed with the Umuekumenyi leaders that “Ebonyi has been reduced to an experimental residue or trial and error programming under the current leadership of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru - a man whom we had alerted Ebonyi people well ahead of time in the 2023 elections that he lacked the requisite capacity and competence to govern the State.

“There are therefore no surprises to keen observers that no serious business of impactful governance has taken place in Ebonyi except the looting and diversions of public funds by Nwifuru and his large corterie of expansively extended family members, ravenous aides, friends, allies and associates as alleged in several quarters,” the group claimed.

The statement singled out the Vanco flyover and tunnel project.

"The fact that the only signature project embarked upon by the Nwifuru administration- the Vanco flyover and tunnel not only remains uncompleted but literally abandoned like a pool of Bethsaida speaks volumes about how much the Nwifuru administration has abandoned the serious business of governance for mere frivolities.”

AEISCID described the administration as “purposeless, directionless and visionless,” adding that “asking for another tenure should have been a weighty request in the mouths of both the government and its illogical supporters.”

On the 2031 power shift promise to Ezza, the group said: “We wish to remind and alarm those who care to listen again like we did in 2023 that even if given another 4 years, the Nwifuru administration will still not find its governance compass as they lack the commonest capacity to make rightful decisions that could be beneficial to the rest of Ebonyi people.

“AEISCID reiterates its earlier call on the great people of Ezekuna never to be deceived by the promise that they would be handed power in 2031 after another term by Nwifuru. Not only can we argue that he lacks the requisite capacity to do so, hence he tactically dodged any opportunity to make a public pronouncement to that effect at our Onueke ancestral home during his so-called second term endorsement rally, we also can reassert that power, all over the world and since the history of Ebonyi State's creation and the return of democracy has always been taken, and not given.

“Ezzas should therefore shine their eyes and vie to gain power like the rest of the State. They are not in any lesser than the rest of Ebonyians in every facet of life!”

The diaspora group also faulted remarks made by the governor at a recent rally in Abakaliki Township Stadium.

“Finally, we condemn the resort to threats and violence on opposition by Gov. Nwifuru made during his speech at a recent rally for the endorsement of himself and the President for a second term in office at the Abakaliki Township Stadium.

“We beckon on President Tinubu to please call his party's loyalist to order as our people cannot be cowed by threats of violence. Democracy grants everyone the right and freedom to contest for his position and under no circumstances should the people face threats for exercising their franchise!”

PoliticsMove To Deregister ADC, Others Could Trigger National Crisis, Timi Frank Warns by Jatuski(op): 11:21am On Jun 16
*Seeks Trump’s intervention

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has raised the alarm over the reported deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties, warning that any attempt to eliminate major opposition platforms could trigger a national crisis and undermine Nigeria's democratic foundations.

Frank, in a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, described the development as a direct threat to multi-party democracy and alleged that the reported court ruling formed part of a wider effort to weaken opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general election.

He called on President Donald Trump of the United States and members of the international community to urgently intervene to preserve Nigeria’s multi- party democracy alive.

According to him, reports indicated that the Court of Appeal, presided over by Justice Mohammed A. Danjuma, had earlier ordered Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court to stay further proceedings in the matter pending the hearing and determination of an appeal scheduled for October 27, 2026.

Frank, however, questioned the circumstances surrounding the delivery of the judgment, describing it as sudden, suspicious and inconsistent with due judicial process.

"The judgment came suddenly without prior notice to the parties involved. From the information available to us, it appeared that the judgment had been prepared elsewhere and simply delivered by the court," he alleged.

He claimed that neither the parties nor their legal representatives were informed in advance that the judgment was ready for delivery.

"Nobody knew about it. There was no information and no briefing, even to the lawyers representing the parties. The judgment was given suddenly. It was something they plotted and cooked up to make it look legitimate without even notifying the parties involved," Frank alleged.

Describing the ruling as a "mystery judgment," Frank alleged that it was orchestrated to achieve a predetermined political outcome.

According to him, information available to his camp suggested that external interests may have influenced the preparation and delivery of the judgment.

"From the information we received, the judgment was written elsewhere and handed to the judge. The Office of the Attorney-General wrote the script and the judge merely played out that script," he alleged.

Frank further alleged that the reported move to deregister opposition parties was part of a broader campaign to weaken political opposition and consolidate power.

"It must be noted that any attempt by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and those working with him to deregister political parties, particularly major opposition parties such as the ADC, will give rise to a crisis that may be difficult to contain," he said.

The former APC spokesman argued that the controversy transcends partisan politics and touches on fundamental constitutional freedoms.

"This issue goes beyond ADC or any individual politician. It concerns the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freely associate, participate in politics and choose their leaders through competitive and credible elections," he stated.

Frank alleged that the current administration has consistently sought to undermine opposition parties through actions designed to create divisions and weaken their structures.

"We have seen efforts to weaken opposition parties across the board—from ADC to PDP, Labour Party and others. These actions appear aimed at suppressing alternative voices and consolidating political control," he alleged.

He also expressed concern about what he described as growing perceptions regarding the independence of the judiciary.

"There are increasing concerns among Nigerians about the role of some judges and whether they are acting independently or under the influence of government officials. These concerns cannot be ignored," he said.

Frank further alleged that the relationship between some members of the executive and the judiciary had raised questions about institutional independence.

"A government where a serving minister builds houses for judges, provides vehicles, allocates land and extends other benefits to members of the judiciary raises legitimate concerns. There is a growing perception that the judiciary has been captured by forces within government," he alleged.

He also questioned what he described as the recurring involvement of a particular judge in politically sensitive cases.

"This particular judge is known for delivering controversial judgments. Most of the controversial judgments coming out of the Federal High Court are associated with this judge. Whenever there is an attempt to destabilise political parties or truncate democratic processes, this judge is usually assigned to handle the matter," he alleged.

Frank maintained that many Nigerians viewed the ADC as a platform with broad national appeal that transcends ethnic, religious and regional divisions.

"The ADC and its presidential candidate represent, in the eyes of many Nigerians, a national movement that cuts across ethnic, regional and religious divides. Any attempt to cripple such a platform for political reasons will fail," he said.

He further alleged that there was a growing belief among some Nigerians that certain political interests were seeking to prevent particular contenders from participating fully in the next presidential election.

"There is a growing belief among many Nigerians that this government does not want a northern candidate on the ballot and that this explains some of the actions being witnessed today," he alleged.

Warning of the potential consequences of shrinking the democratic space, the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, said any attempt to transform Nigeria into a one-party state could have far-reaching implications for national stability.

"Nigeria is a country of over 200 million people. Any desperate attempt to turn the country into a one-party state could trigger unrest and a crisis that nobody can control. The consequences for national unity and democratic governance would be severe," he warned.

He called on the international community to closely monitor developments in Nigeria and urged democratic institutions, civil society organisations, religious leaders, youth groups and professional bodies to defend the country's democratic gains.

Frank also appealed to the administration of United States President Donald Trump and other democratic governments to pay close attention to political developments in Nigeria and take steps aimed at protecting democratic institutions and the rule of law.

"The time has come for all lovers of democracy to rise in defence of the democratic gains Nigerians have fought hard to achieve. Silence in the face of these developments could have far-reaching consequences for the future of our country," he said.

AgricultureAgro-dealers Trained To Drive Commercialisation Of TELA Maize In Nigeria by Jatuski(op): 4:18pm On Jun 11
Agro-dealers across Nigeria have received targeted training to strengthen their capacity to promote, market, and support the commercialization of TELA maize varieties, a climate-smart innovation expected to boost productivity and farmer resilience.

The workshop, convened by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), was part of ongoing efforts to scale agricultural biotechnology solutions, focused on equipping participants with critical knowledge in biotechnology awareness, product handling, regulatory compliance, seed stewardship, and effective farmer engagement.

Dr Sylvester Oikeh, AATF Consultant on TELA Maize Project, who delivered a keynote presentation titled “From Innovation to Impact – The TELA Maize,” underscored the transformative potential of TELA maize in addressing key challenges in Nigeria’s maize sector, including pest pressure and low yields.

Sessions also explored global and local success stories in agricultural biotechnology, providing context for Nigeria’s growing adoption of improved seed technologies.

Participants were introduced to the different TELA maize varieties and their specific production environments, alongside discussions on Nigeria’s maize value chain and the opportunities presented by the technology.

Additional sessions covered biosafety regulations, good agricultural practices (GAP), and the importance of seed quality assurance through proper handling and storage.

Mr. Olawale Ojo, AATF TELA Maize Market Development Manager, opened the session with an overview of Nigeria’s maize market, noting that rising grain prices and increasing climate-related challenges present a strong value proposition for TELA maize varieties. He emphasized that smallholder farmers require improved tools to boost productivity, describing agro-dealers as critical influencers in educating farmers and ensuring timely access to quality seeds.

The session also explored practical approaches for creating awareness and driving demand for hybrid seeds.

Speaking on agricultural biotechnology, Dr. Kehinde Jimoh, AATF Seed Systems Specialist, underscored the global acceptance of biotechnology and its role in delivering improved crop varieties. He highlighted that Nigeria has already commercialized three biotech crops, cotton, pod borer-resistant cowpea, and TELA maize. However, he stressed that realizing the full yield potential of these crops depends on adherence to good agronomic practices (GAP), urging participants to integrate these practices into their production systems.

Dr. Bernard Ehirim, AATF Stewardship Officer, focused on sustaining the benefits of TELA maize through responsible stewardship.

He outlined key requirements including insect resistance management, product traceability, proper record-keeping, and continuous field monitoring to prevent product breakdown.

Dr Ehirim encouraged agro-dealers to maintain open communication with stewardship focal people, particularly in reporting any issues related to insect resistance, to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the technology.

A key outcome of the training was the recognition of agro-dealers as critical partners in driving awareness, ensuring proper distribution, and maintaining stewardship standards for TELA maize.

Experts emphasized that a strong understanding of product characteristics, regulatory requirements, and agronomic practices is essential for successful commercialization.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of effective communication in addressing farmer concerns and improving adoption rates, noting that misinformation remains a barrier to uptake of biotechnology innovations.Participants developed practical action plans to guide their post-training activities.

These include familiarizing themselves with all four TELA maize varieties, adhering strictly to approved product claims, integrating GAP advisory into farmer interactions, and strengthening seed storage, traceability, and inventory management systems.

They were also encouraged to deepen their understanding of biosafety and seed regulations, review storage facilities to meet recommended standards, and prepare responses to common farmer concerns ahead of a role-play session scheduled for the next phase of the training.

With improved knowledge and strengthened capacity, agro-dealers are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the adoption of TELA maize, contributing to enhanced food security and sustainable agricultural growth in Nigeria.

PoliticsNafiu Bala: International Community Watching Closely, Frank Warns Judiciary Not by Jatuski(op): 2:11pm On Jun 10
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has cautioned judicial officers across the country against delivering judgments that could undermine Nigeria's democratic process, warning that the international community is closely monitoring developments in the nation's courts.

Frank, who spoke amid ongoing legal disputes involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its erstwhile deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, expressed concerns over what he described as attempts to deploy the judiciary against opposition political parties ahead of future elections.

He called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the National Judicial Council (NJC), judges of the Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court to uphold the independence of the judiciary and resist pressure from politicians.

According to the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, judicial decisions in politically sensitive cases must be guided strictly by the law and not partisan considerations.

"The Chief Judge and all judges of the Federal High Court, as well as judges across the country, should be cautious in the way they handle political and other sensitive cases at this time. They should be careful because the international community is watching and paying attention," Frank said.

The political activist specifically referenced legal battles involving ADC and ex-deputy national vice chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, alleging that efforts were being made to secure court orders capable of weakening the Senator David Mark led opposition ADC and restricting its participation in the democratic process.

He claimed that he is aware of subterranean moves by the presidency to blackmail and intimidate the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court with corruption allegations in order to ensure that the ongoing ADC suit is assigned to a pliant judge who will rule to stop the Presidential Candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubakar and the party’s candidates for the position of Senate, House of Representatives, Governor and House of Assembly members in the forthcoming general elections.

He however warned that any such move would be resisted by well-meaning Nigerians towards sustaining and preserving democracy in the country.

He urged judges handling such matters to ensure justice is dispensed without fear or favour, warning that any judgment perceived as politically motivated could damage public confidence in the judiciary.

Frank who is a Senior Advisor, Global Friendship City Association (GFCA), USA, claimed that developments within Nigeria's justice system were attracting growing international scrutiny.

"If they are not aware, I am reminding them that the international community is monitoring what is happening in Nigeria, including what many perceive as fraudulent judgments. There will be consequences and actions against those involved," he stated.

He further alleged that judicial officers who aid attempts to derail democracy through questionable rulings could face sanctions from foreign governments and international institutions.

"From now on, if they do not know, I am telling them that there will be consequences from the international community, particularly from the American government, for judges who give judgments aimed at truncating democracy," he said.

Frank also warned that such repercussions could extend beyond individual judicial officers.

"The consequences will affect not only them but also their families. There could be certain actions taken against them and their families. They should therefore be very careful," he added.

Extending his appeal to all levels of the judiciary, Frank stressed that appellate courts were equally expected to protect democratic values and preserve the integrity of the electoral process.

"This warning is not only for the Federal High Court. It also applies to the entire judiciary, including judges of the Court of Appeal and Justices of the Supreme Court," he said.

Describing the current political climate as critical, Frank urged judges not to allow themselves to be used as instruments for settling political disputes or excluding legitimate political actors from contesting elections.

"Everyone must understand that this election is very sensitive and very critical. If judges allow themselves to be used by the government or by politicians to undermine the process, there will be consequences," he warned.

He maintained that democracy could only thrive where all qualified political parties and candidates are allowed to participate freely, insisting that the judiciary has a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's democratic institutions.

AgricultureCampaigns Against Improved Seed Undermine Africa’s Maize Productivity - Expert by Jatuski(op): 6:53pm On Jun 08
Agricultural experts have raised fresh concerns over campaigns discouraging African farmers from adopting improved seeds, warning that such narratives are deepening low productivity and perpetuating poverty across the continent.

Dr. Sylvester Oikeh, a consultant with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) on TELA maize, delivered the caution during the annual stewardship training workshop for extension officers in Kaduna.

He argued that resistance to improved seed varieties is a major factor behind Africa’s lagging maize yields compared to global benchmarks.According to Oikeh, Africa’s average maize yield remains significantly below global standards.

In Nigeria alone, about 6.5 million hectares are devoted to maize cultivation, yet farmers achieve an average yield of just 2.2 tons per hectare.

This falls far short of the global average of 5.8 to 6 tons per hectare, and even further behind yields in regions such as North America and Europe, where productivity can exceed 8–10 tons per hectare due to widespread adoption of improved seed varieties and modern farming practices.

“Discouraging farmers from using improved seeds has effectively recycled poverty on the continent,” Oikeh said.

“When farmers replant harvested grain instead of certified seeds, they are planting what should be food, not seed. That decision alone significantly reduces yield potential.”

He noted that many of the anti-improved seed narratives originate from regions that themselves rely heavily on advanced agricultural technologies. “In Europe and other developed regions, improved seeds are central to agricultural success. It is contradictory to promote otherwise in Africa,” he added.

Oikeh dismissed claims that improved seeds force farmers into dependency on multinational seed companies.

He emphasized that improved seeds are specifically developed to enhance productivity, resist pests, and tolerate environmental stresses—benefits that cannot be guaranteed when farmers recycle grain.Recent agricultural data supports his position.

Studies across sub-Saharan Africa show that farmers using improved maize varieties can achieve yield increases of 30 to 100 per.cent, depending on environmental conditions and complementary inputs such as fertilizer and irrigation. In contrast, reliance on saved grain often leads to declining yields over time due to genetic degeneration and increased vulnerability to pests and diseases.

The AATF consultant also highlighted that opposition to improved seeds has intensified alongside the introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops designed to address key production challenges, including drought and pest infestations.

“Improved and GM seeds are not the problem—they are part of the solution to Africa’s food security challenge,” Oikeh stated.

“Farmers are increasingly recognizing the difference between grain and seed, and that awareness is critical for transforming agricultural productivity.”

With Africa’s population projected to rise sharply in the coming decades, experts warn that closing the yield gap will be essential to ensuring food security, increasing farmer incomes, and reducing dependence on food imports.

Founded in 2003 to address Africa’s food security prospects through agricultural technology, AATF believes that the agricultural sector is a key foundational pillar as Africa consolidates its economic growth and carves out its new position as a major global economic powerhouse and the next growth market in the world.

It was formed in response to the need for an effective mechanism that would facilitate and support negotiation for technology access and delivery and formation of appropriate partnerships to manage the development & deployment of innovative technologies for use by smallholder farmers in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA).

The Vice-Chancellor also said effective pathways for expanding access to quality education for underserved and vulnerable populations could be explored by leveraging technology-enabled solutions.

"This is an area where partnerships between universities and technology companies can make a truly transformative difference", he stressed.

Ahmed described the partnership between ABU and DazzleView as an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration in educational technology, research, capacity building, and industry engagement.

"Together, we can connect knowledge with practical application, transform ideas into solutions, and ensure that technology serves as a powerful tool for inclusion and development", he further stressed.

He explained that the MoU signed on smart education between ABU and DazzleView was a foundation for a stronger and more productive relationship between both organizations.

He appreciated DazzleView immensely for the warm hospitality and continued support to the university.

Prof Ahmed also said the university would remain grateful to the DazzleView Technology for the donation in 2022 of a smart classroom to the institution.

The facility, according to him, has significantly enhanced teaching and learning at the university and demonstrated the transformative power of technology in education.

He stressed that ABU would remain committed to excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.

Ahmed stated that the university was also placing strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and commercialisation of research outputs and ensuring that discoveries and innovations were translated into practical solutions.

PoliticsResidents Drag FCTA To Court, Stop Planned Abuja Demolition by Jatuski(op): 4:05pm On Jun 03
Residents of Kampala Street, Wuse II, Abuja, have formally notified the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) of a pending court case challenging actions affecting properties in the area, warning that any demolition exercise before the determination of the suit could amount to contempt of court.

The warning was contained in a letter dated June 2, 2026, addressed to the Director of Legal Services, AMMC, by the law firm of M.P. Anaukyaa & Co., solicitors to six claimants led by Mrs. Nnennaya M. Okeke.

According to the letter, the claimants are parties in Suit No. CV/1022/26 pending before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Garki Judicial Division, involving the Hon. Minister of the FCT and Corporate Ideals Properties Limited as defendants.

The solicitors stated that the suit concerns properties located on Kampala Street, off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II, and that all relevant court processes, including the writ of summons, motion on notice, enrolled order, and Form 48, had already been served on the defendants.

They drew the attention of the AMMC to an enrolled order issued by the court on April 2, 2026, directing all parties to maintain the status quo pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

The letter noted that since the FCT Minister is a defendant in the suit and AMMC's actions are often undertaken pursuant to directives from the minister's office, it became necessary to formally notify the council of the ongoing litigation and the subsisting court order.

The claimants' counsel maintained that any attempt to proceed with demolition or other actions affecting the disputed properties would constitute a violation of the court's directive and could expose those involved to contempt proceedings.

They further argued that the properties in question are fully developed structures, some of which, according to them, have existed for more than three decades.

According to the lawyers, demolition of the buildings before the resolution of the case would result in irreparable damage to the owners and undermine the authority of the court.

"Any attempt to carry out any demolition will not only occasion injustice and irreparable damage, but it will amount to total disrespect and disregard of the express order of the court directing that status quo be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the case," the letter stated.

The solicitors also attached photographs of the disputed properties to support their claim that the structures are longstanding developments.

They urged the AMMC and all parties connected with the matter to respect the court order and refrain from taking further action until the suit is heard and determined.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the AMMC nor the Federal Capital Territory Administration had issued an official response to the notice. The matter is expected to come up for further proceedings before the FCT High Court.

PoliticsTimi Frank Alleges Plot To Doctor El-rufai’s Detention Recordings by Jatuski(op): 7:19pm On May 29
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has alleged a plot by security agencies to doctor audio and visual recordings purportedly linked to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, in a bid to tarnish his image and justify his continued detention.

Frank, in a statement on Friday, claimed that el-Rufai has been subjected to “intense surveillance” while in custody and alleged that conversations involving the former governor, his lawyers and family members were being secretly recorded.

According to him, the alleged recordings were being manipulated through artificial intelligence technology to incriminate the former governor.

“Nasir el-Rufai has been subjected to intense surveillance even in detention,” Frank alleged.

“The ICPC, where he is being held, has collaborated with the DSS to bug his room. They have countless hours of voice and visual recordings of his conversations, including those with his lawyers and family members,” he said.

Frank further claimed that operatives were allegedly reviewing the recordings “to select those that can best be doctored.”

“The plan is to use AI to distort some of these recordings to frame el-Rufai. Their plan is to then leak some of these doctored recordings to the press,” he alleged.

Describing the development as part of a broader agenda against the former governor, the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, said the alleged plot was aimed at damaging El-Rufai’s reputation and prolonging his detention.

“It is all a part of the agenda to destroy el-Rufai, tarnish his reputation and keep him in custody,” Frank stated.

Politics‎aminu Iyawa's Mosquito Tales And The Ignominy Of Double Standards by Jatuski(op): 9:22am On May 29

‎By; MUSTAPHA ATIKU RIBADU

‎My attention has been drawn to an article authored by Alhaji Aminu Iyawa titled, “The King Who Fell to the Mosquito.” Ordinarily, such a fluid publication filled with innuendos, historical distortions, and dangerous ethnic insinuations should not deserve a response. However, silence in the face of deliberate misinformation may be mistaken for consent and approval. Such compelled my intervention.

‎As a Fulani man who has associated closely with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri over the years, I can authoritatively debunk the falsehoods and toxic narratives put forward by Iyawa.

‎The best one can say about his article is that it is a cocktail of distortions, exaggerations and politically motivated bitterness that may sadly be induced by old-age, senility and fading judgment.

‎For an experienced journalist, and a man who once occupied the office of Commissioner for Information, one would expect a measured intervention built on facts, fairness and balance. Unfortunately, what Iyawa presented in his self styled and phantom article was a dangerous ethnic sermon cloaked as political commentary.

‎His repeated reference to “mosquitoes” and his literary subterfuge are most unfortunate. A man in his seventies should be bold enough to express his views directly without hiding behind parables and coded attacks designed to inflame sentiments and deepen ethnic suspicion.

‎The truth is simple: Governor Fintiri has never demonstrated hatred against the Fulani people. That narrative exists only in the imagination of politicians who have lost relevance and are desperately searching for ethnic fault lines to exploit for political survival.

‎I do not even need to begin listing the numerous Fulani individuals who have remained close associates, political allies and beneficiaries of Governor Fintiri’s administration because doing so would amount to a needless waste of time and energy. I could not also be able to mention Fulani communities that have benefitted from Fintiri's acts of benevolence and good governance. Facts are sacred and they are already visible for every objective observer in Adamawa State to see.

‎Governor Fintiri’s relationship with the Fulani community remains solid and cordial. His administration has accommodated all tribes, religions and political tendencies in the state without discrimination. The governor’s developmental projects, appointments and political engagements clearly reflect inclusiveness rather than the imaginary tribal agenda Iyawa desperately seeks to construct.

‎It is also disingenuous for Iyawa to question the legitimacy of Governor Fintiri’s 2023 re-election. The election was free, fair and constitutionally validated. Unless Iyawa has suddenly chosen to join the camp of Hudu Yunusa Ari and other disgruntled elements who attempted to subvert democracy, he should respect the verdict of the Supreme Court, which remains the highest judicial authority in the land.

‎In every democracy, election petitions are normal. Contesting an election in court does not invalidate the mandate freely given by the people. The Supreme Court spoke clearly and decisively on the matter. That should have settled every debate for sincere democrats.

‎More importantly, Iyawa’s article exposes a troubling level of hypocrisy and double standards. Nigerians have not forgotten that when his former boss, Admiral Murtala Nyako, was impeached as governor in 2014, Aminu Iyawa himself led several commissioners from the Nyako administration to openly pledge loyalty to the then Acting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

‎A number of people could not easily forget how Iyawa excoriated and lambasted Nyako before Fintiri in order to be part of his cabinet. But from the look of things, it appears that decades after Fintiri refused to accommodate Iyawa who was one of Nyako's major beneficiaries, because of integrity deficit, the man is yet to recover from the rejection

PoliticsTimi Frank Faults Ayeni’s Bail Terms, Alleges Presidency’s Influence by Jatuski(op): 10:55am On May 28
*Says N15bn bank guarantee unprecedented , politically motivated

A political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has criticised the bail conditions granted to businessman, Tunde Ayeni by the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, describing them as excessively stringent and capable of eroding public confidence in the judiciary.

Frank, in a statement on Thursday, alleged that the bail terms imposed by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court sitting in Apo were unprecedented and politically motivated.

He claimed that one of the conditions required a surety to provide a bank guarantee of N15 billion — the amount involved in the charge before the court — with an undertaking that the sum would be forfeited to the Federal Government if the defendant absconded.

According to him, such conditions were unusual for bailable offences and compared unfavourably with bail terms granted to other high-profile defendants facing corruption-related charges.

“It is surprising to hear of such a condition, as it appears highly unusual and capable of bringing shame to our judicial process,” Frank said.

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, alleged that the Presidency was influencing the matter, insisting that several former public office holders facing corruption allegations involving huge sums had secured bail on less stringent conditions.

Frank cited former governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Yahaya Bello as examples of defendants who, according to him, were granted more favourable bail terms despite the scale of allegations against them.

He expressed concern that politics was increasingly influencing the nation’s justice system and warned against actions capable of undermining the independence of the judiciary.

The activist further urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the bail conditions in order to protect public trust in the judicial process.

“The Nigerian criminal justice system must resist the temptation to equate allegations with guilt. Courts are constitutionally obligated to remain the final guardians of liberty, not silent collaborators in pre-conviction punishment,” he stated.

Frank also called on the international community to pay attention to the matter, warning that perceived compromise of the rule of law could negatively affect investor confidence in the country.

He maintained that the offences against Ayeni were bailable and noted that Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution presumes every defendant innocent until proven guilty.

According to him, Ayeni had indicated readiness to face trial and should therefore be allowed adequate opportunity to prepare his defence while on bail.

Foreign AffairsSenegal Crisis: Frank Backs Speaker, Says President Betraying Reform Agenda by Jatuski(op): 3:52pm On May 27
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has congratulated Senegal’s newly elected Speaker, Ousmane Sonko, while accusing President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of betraying the trust of the Senegalese people and abandoning the reform ideals that brought his administration to power.

Frank, in a statement on Wednesday, said the growing political crisis in Senegal reflects what he described as a painful betrayal of the revolutionary vision championed by former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the PASTEF movement.

According to him, millions of Senegalese youths who supported the movement in pursuit of accountability, sovereignty and institutional reforms are now disillusioned by what they see as a gradual return to the old political order.

Frank noted that Sonko played the central role in reshaping Senegal’s political landscape long before President Faye emerged on the national stage, describing the Prime Minister as the symbol of resistance against the former administration of ex-President Macky Sall.

The international affairs advisor said Sonko inspired a generation of young Senegalese demanding political and economic independence, institutional reforms and freedom from foreign influence.

The former APC spokesman recalled that after Sonko’s strong performance in the 2019 presidential election, he became the country’s most formidable opposition figure, leading to what he described as years of political persecution, controversial arrests and legal battles aimed at preventing him from becoming president.

Frank argued that despite imprisonment and eventual disqualification from contesting the 2024 presidential election, Sonko remained committed to the movement and mobilised supporters from detention to back Faye as the candidate of continuity for the PASTEF vision.

“Without Sonko’s sacrifices, political structure, popularity and influence among Senegalese youths, Bassirou Diomaye Faye would almost certainly never have become president,” Frank stated.

He added that even President Faye publicly acknowledged Sonko’s role during his inauguration by crediting him for the movement’s victory and sacrifices.

Frank, however, alleged that shortly after assuming office, the Faye administration began deviating from the ideals that inspired the movement, particularly through the alleged return of individuals associated with the former Macky Sall administration into positions of influence.

He further accused President Faye of allegedly taking Senegal back under French influence contrary to the aspirations of the reform movement.

“The fight between President Faye and PM Sonko is mainly because President Faye has betrayed the trust reposed in him by the Senegalese people by taking Senegal back to the control of France,” Frank alleged.

He said many supporters of Sonko now view the development as a betrayal of the revolution they fought for and fear that the political establishment the movement sought to dismantle is quietly regaining influence.

Frank maintained that Sonko remains the authentic face of the struggle for a new Senegal built on economic independence, youth empowerment, institutional reforms and African self-determination.

He urged Senegalese citizens to remain steadfast and continue supporting Sonko’s leadership and long-term vision for the country.

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, also advised Sonko to begin building broader international alliances, particularly with the United States and other global partners willing to support democratic development and economic growth without undermining Senegal’s sovereignty.

According to Frank, Senegal stands at a critical crossroads between genuine reform and a return to entrenched political structures.

He warned that history would judge whether President Faye upheld the revolutionary ideals that brought him to power or aligned himself with the establishment the Senegalese people voted to reject.

PoliticsADP Presidential Aspirant Abbas Condemns Rising Kidnapping Of School Children by Jatuski(op): 10:48am On May 27
*Calls for urgent national security reforms on Children’s Day

A Presidential Aspirant under the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas has strongly condemned the deliberate target of school children by criminals as easy bait for kidnapping.

He expressed this in a statement he personally signed, and made available to commemorate the Children's Day celebration.

According to the statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna on May 27, 2026 by his SA Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, more needs to be done in ensuring safety of children in their various schools.

"As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day, my heart is heavy over the painful and deeply disturbing rise in the kidnapping of innocent schoolchildren and minors across various parts of our nation.

"Children’s Day ought to be a moment of laughter, hope, dreams, and renewed commitment to the future of our dear country, sadly, for too many Nigerian families today, it has become a season overshadowed by fear, uncertainty, and anxiety over the safety of their children," he said.

According to the statement titled, "CHILDREN MUST NEVER BECOME TARGETS OF TERROR" he lamented the repeated abduction of children from schools, communities, and even places once considered safe.

"It is not merely a security concern; it is a moral emergency and a national tragedy, no nation can truly progress when its children grow up under the shadow of terror and insecurity.

"I strongly condemn these criminal acts in all their forms and call on all security agencies, community leaders, traditional institutions, faith-based organizations, and citizens to unite beyond politics, ethnicity, or religion in confronting this menace.

"Our children deserve books, not bullets. They deserve classrooms, not captivity. They deserve hope, not horror," he said.

As a Presidential Aspirant under the platform of the Action Democratic Party, he said that he believes Nigeria must urgently adopt a more proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-based security architecture capable of preventing these crimes before they occur.

To effectively tackle the growing insecurity affecting children and vulnerable communities, he therefore , suggested establishment of a National School and Child Protection Security Network with trained rapid-response units dedicated to schools and child-sensitive areas.

He further suggested, "Increased investment in modern surveillance technology, intelligence gathering, and rural security monitoring systems.

"Strengthening community policing and local intelligence partnerships between citizens and security agencies.

"Special security intervention funds for vulnerable schools, especially in rural communities.

"Improved welfare, training, and operational support for security personnel to enhance effectiveness and morale.

"Severe and expedited prosecution of kidnappers, child traffickers, and collaborators through special security courts".

Ambassador Abbas also stressed that massive youth employment and economic empowerment initiatives will ultimately reduce criminal recruitment and social desperation.

"Nigeria cannot continue to normalize the fear of kidnapping as part of daily life. We must rise collectively as one people to protect the innocence, future, and dignity of every Nigerian child.

"On this Children’s Day, I reaffirm my commitment to building a Nigeria where every child can learn safely, dream freely, and grow without fear.

"To every Nigerian child: your future matters, your dreams are valid, and this nation still belongs to you," he said.

PoliticsAtiku: 2023 MVP, Nigeria’s Strongest Opposition Bet For 2027 by Jatuski(op): 12:14pm On May 26
By; OLUSOLA SANNI

As Nigeria inches toward the 2027 presidential election, the political terrain has changed significantly from the emotionally charged battlefield of 2023. The protest-fuelled momentum that powered Peter Obi and the Labour Party has largely waned, giving way to a more conventional electoral environment where structure, experience, resilience, and national reach will matter far more than social media enthusiasm or grievance-driven mobilization.

In that emerging reality, one name stands out unmistakably: Atiku Abubakar.

If 2023 was a contest shaped by emotion, identity anxieties, and protest energy, 2027 will be a referendum on competence, coalition-building, and the ability to convert public frustration into a viable governing alternative. By that measure, Atiku Abubakar remains the opposition’s most formidable asset and the African Democratic Congress’ most credible path to victory.

The 2023 election was unlike any before it. The lingering anger from the #EndSARS movement found political expression in Peter Obi’s candidacy, particularly among younger urban voters seeking disruption rather than continuity. That sentiment was further amplified by two highly combustible narratives: the perception of a “Fulani succession” after Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year presidency, and widespread opposition to the APC’s controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Together, these forces created a protest coalition powered less by ideological alignment than by emotional resistance.

Peter Obi’s performance was undeniably impressive within that context. But it was a phenomenon tied to a specific moment in Nigeria’s political evolution — one driven by exceptional circumstances that may not be replicable in 2027.

Atiku’s performance, by contrast, reflected something deeper and more enduring.

Despite contending with a hostile political climate, ethnic profiling, and an internal rebellion within the PDP led by the G5 governors, Atiku still secured nearly seven million votes and finished as the leading opposition candidate nationally. That achievement was not accidental. It was the product of political resilience, institutional depth, national organization, and a tested ability to compete under extreme pressure.

Simply put, Atiku was the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 election cycle.

Few candidates in Nigerian political history have faced simultaneous internal sabotage, regional suspicion, and a fragmented opposition landscape — and still remained that competitive.

Because 2027 is shaping up to be a fundamentally different contest. The protest energy of 2023 has dissipated. The ethnic and religious flashpoints that distorted electoral calculations then are far less potent today. What Nigerians now confront is a harsher and more sobering reality: economic pain, inflation, insecurity, unemployment, and growing national frustration.

This next election will be less about symbolism and more about solutions.

And in such a contest, experience becomes an asset — not a liability.

Atiku has already shown strategic foresight by helping consolidate opposition energies around the African Democratic Congress at a time when the ruling establishment’s tactics appear increasingly geared toward weakening traditional opposition platforms through engineered crises and political fragmentation.

That alone demonstrates political anticipation and organizational instinct.

The ADC presents a unique opportunity to build a broad-based national coalition. But coalitions do not build themselves. They require a bridge-builder — someone with relationships across regions, credibility across interests, and the maturity to manage competing ambitions.

Atiku fits that profile more than anyone else currently in the opposition space.

As a former Vice President, a businessman, and a long-standing advocate of restructuring, economic reform, and national inclusion, he offers both governance experience and a clearly articulated alternative vision.

Critics will predictably raise age or past presidential attempts. But leadership is not a beauty contest or a talent show. It is about preparedness, endurance, judgment, and reach.

The question before the opposition is brutally simple: do we want to make a point, or do we want to make a President?

Because if the objective is merely emotional satisfaction, there are many options.

But if the objective is to mount the strongest possible challenge to an incumbent president in a difficult electoral environment, then the answer becomes clearer.

Atiku has the national network.

He has the campaign infrastructure.

He has the institutional memory.

He has the discipline forged through repeated contests.

And most importantly, he has already demonstrated the capacity to remain competitive even under hostile conditions.

Without the distortions of 2023, those underlying strengths become even more significant.

Nigeria deserves a serious opposition. Democracy deserves a real contest.

And the ADC, if it is truly focused on victory rather than symbolism, should rally behind its most valuable political player. Atiku Abubakar remains that candidate.

PoliticsOverwhelming Support As Dr Matt Declares For Chikun Kaduna Assembly by Jatuski(op): 9:02pm On May 24
*Says NDC committed to serving Nigerians.

*NDC Guber Aspirant likens 2027 to another independence for Nigerians

There was overwhelming support from constituents as Dr. Matthew Moses, popularly known as Dr. Matt on Saturday, publicly declared his ambition to contest for the Chikun Constituency, Kaduna State House of Assembly under the NDC Party.

It was a carnival-like procession as supporters escorted him with fanfare from the bridge linking Narayi with Barnawa to the Narayi LEA Primary School where his official declaration took place.

Gubernatorial aspirant of NDC in Kaduna State, Ibrahim H. Abdulkarim in his remarks at the well attended gathering, described the attendance as encouraging.

He said, "Nigeria is a blessed country. Kaduna is a blessed state, but they are not allowing us to enjoy this country. All they do is divide and rule."

He explained that he has been actively participating in politics since 2003, but is disappointed by those elected so far.

"I am really disappointed in them, we provide the manifesto and ideas that will translate to development but they don't apply it. All they do is get those who have no vision and they end up disappointing us.

"I have been with Peter Obi for long and I know he is committed to Nigeria's unity," he said.

He alleged that kidnapping is being encouraged by people in government.

"They propose about N1bn to settle bandits then end up spending about N200m, pocketing the rest. With that development, how do we expect Banditry to end," he queried.

He likened the 2027 election to the fight for independence.

"The truth is that Nigeria can be fixed, but we are the ones to fix it. We must do the fight through the ballots, we must not let them to divide us," he declared.

He added that, "let's fight for ourselves for the survival of humans".

He described Dr. Matt as someone who has paid his dues and they are happy that he will provide good representation for Chikun Constituency at the Kaduna State House of Assembly come 2027.

The Chairman Kaduna Comedy and MCs Association, said that his association has endorsed, and will support Dr. Matt.

"On behalf of Comedians and MCs Association in Kaduna, we are here, we endorse Dr. Matt for Chikun Kaduna State Assembly for 2027.

Dr. Matt in his declaration, said that NDC is committed to serving Nigerians.

"We have done a lot, we have been in politics in Nigeria since 1999. We are now offering the desired change. I don't want us to go in the way of the old. We are tired of give us N200 and we give you our votes. We sell our votes, we collect indomie, spaghetti and sell our votes and end up without getting desired dividends of democracy.

"I have never in my life, been a politician. I have never attempted to be in politics. We have come to serve, I have not come to be rich. I am comfortable in my own little way. We have been supporting widow's, orphans and others through Dr. Matt Foundation. Because of the good works we have been doing, they said we should come and contest. All my friends that contributed to buy my form of interest I thank you all we are here to serve you. If you want to vote, vote us because of God and the dividends of democracy we will provide.

"God bless Nigeria, God bless Chikun LGA," he declared.

Other stakeholders including youth, women and elder statesmen in Chikun LGA who spoke at the declaration ceremony, were optimistic that with Dr. Matt in charge, Chikun Constituency would be in safe hands.

Speaking separately, they urged residents of Chikun to make the right choice by supporting all the candidates of NDC and Dr. Matt in particular.

PoliticsTimi Frank Alleges Plot Against El-rufai, Queries ‘russian Doctor’ Visit In DSS by Jatuski(op): 10:18pm On May 22
*Calls NBA, religious leaders, northern elders, traditional rulers, youths, CSOs, international community to demand immediate release

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has raised fresh alarm over the health and safety of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, alleging that a foreign doctor of Russian origin was secretly brought in to examine him while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Frank, in a statement on Friday, claimed that a DSS official contacted him to “reliably confirm” that a Russian doctor visited el-Rufai around 9:45p.m. after authorities allegedly claimed that the former governor was ill and required urgent medical attention.

According to him, el-Rufai initially resisted the medical examination but was allegedly compelled to undergo it.

“A DSS official reached out to me to reliably confirm that a Russian doctor visited Mallam Nasir El-Rufai at about 9:45 p.m. under the claim that he was ill and required medical attention.

“Although Malam el-Rufai allegedly refused initially, he was reportedly compelled to undergo medical examination,” Frank said.

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, questioned why a foreign doctor would be invited at night if the former governor truly needed medical care.

“If Malam el-Rufai is truly ill, why bring in a foreign doctor at that time of the night?” he queried.

“Sneaking him in under the guise of being a doctor or a mercenary posing as a doctor to carry out this dirty job raises serious questions. How do we verify and how are we sure? This is Nigeria and anything is very possible under this administration,” he added.

Frank maintained that el-Rufai appeared healthy during his last court appearance, insisting that any medical attention should ordinarily have been based on the former governor’s consent or request.

“The Malam el-Rufai many Nigerians saw during his last court appearance looked healthy and stable.

“If medical attention was genuinely required, shouldn’t it have been at his own request? What then happened to the medical personnel attached to the nation’s security agencies?” he said.

He further claimed that the alleged appearance of the Russian doctor had deepened fears following what he described as earlier intelligence reports of a plot against the former Kaduna governor.

“Given the earlier intelligence I received regarding an alleged plot to eliminate Malam el-Rufai, the sudden appearance of a Russian doctor now raises serious suspicions and deep concern,” he stated.

Frank also questioned what he described as the “desperation” surrounding el-Rufai’s detention, asking whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani were afraid of the former governor.

“The question Nigerians should ask is this: what exactly are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani afraid of?” he asked.

“Is there something they know that the Nigerian public do not know? Why the apparent desperation and extraordinary measures being taken against him?”

Frank recalled el-Rufai’s role in the emergence of the current administration, noting that the former governor played a “critical role” during the 2023 elections.

“We all know the critical role Mayllam el-Rufai played in the last election, especially when then-candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited him in Kaduna and appealed to him to remain committed to supporting the administration,” he said.

The former APC spokesman also claimed he had earlier predicted that el-Rufai would eventually be arrested after attending court proceedings.

“Recall that I had earlier stated publicly that Malam el-Rufai would eventually be picked up from the court premises — and exactly that happened. Nigerians should therefore not treat these developments lightly,” he added.

Frank alleged that the former governor had been returned to DSS custody despite an alleged subsisting order for him to remain with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

He further identified the foreign doctor as “Dr Dmitriy,” alleging that the medical examination was carried out without proper consultation with el-Rufai or members of his family.

Frank said: “It is strange that a Russian doctor, who has now after further intelligence been identified as one Dr Dmitriy, was brought in to examine Malam el-Rufai without proper consultation with him or members of his family.

“Despite a subsisting order for him to remain with the ICPC, the DSS reportedly hurriedly moved him back into its custody. Naturally, this development has intensified public suspicion.”

Frank argued that el-Rufai had not attempted to evade security agencies, stressing that the former governor voluntarily presented himself upon his return to Nigeria from Egypt.

“It is also clear to every reasonable observer that Malam el-Rufai is not on the run. In fact, he voluntarily presented himself to security agencies immediately upon his return to Nigeria from Egypt. Since when did corruption allegations become non-bailable offences?” he queried.

While reiterating his support for the anti-corruption war, Frank insisted that due process and the rule of law must prevail.

“For the umpteenth time, I reiterate my support for the fight against corruption. However, fairness, justice, rule of law, and due process must never be sacrificed under any circumstance,” he stated.

He also appealed to northern leaders, youths, civil society organisations and the international community to intervene and demand el-Rufai’s release.

“I pray that northern elders and youths will not sit back and watch anything untoward happen to Malam el-Rufai,” Frank said.

“I therefore, call on the Nigerian Bar Association, religious leaders, northern elders, traditional rulers, northern youths, civil society organisations, well-meaning Nigerians, and the international community to urgently demand his immediate release so he can adequately prepare for his defence.”

Frank warned that failure to act urgently could lead to dire consequences.

“If urgent action is not taken, there are growing fears that Malam el-Rufai may either be brought out dead, released only to die later at home, or kept in prolonged detention until after the 2027 general elections,” he alleged.

“Let us act before it is too late,” he declared.

PoliticsNEMA Sensitises Residents, Conducts Flood Rescue Simulation In Kaduna by Jatuski(op): 6:10am On May 22
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has sensitised residents and conducted flood rescue simulation exercise to strengthen community preparedness ahead of the 2026 rainy season in Kaduna

The exercise formed part of NEMA’s 2026 Disaster Preparedness and Response Campaign on floods and related hazards across the country.

Mr Suleiman Muhammad, Head of Operations, NEMA Kaduna Office, said the exercise was aimed at building the capacity of residents as first responders during emergencies before the arrival of rescue agencies.

Muhammad said the simulation was designed to equip communities with practical rescue and response skills to minimise losses during flooding incidents.

“By training the communities and carrying out simulations, they will be able to respond immediately in case of any emergency before government agencies arrive.

“We want communities to start rescuing their people before the arrival of any response agency,” he said.

He said Kaduna was among states identified as being under moderate flood risk in 2026 based on predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

According to him, 21 local government areas in the state were likely to be affected by flooding during the rainy season.

Muhammad said NEMA had earlier engaged stakeholders and traditional institutions in Chikun and Kaduna North Local Government Areas on precautionary measures against flooding.

He said the agency also sensitised communities on clearing blocked drainages and adopting preventive measures to reduce the impact of floods.

“We do not want disasters to happen, but we want to take proactive actions before the disaster so that losses to lives and property will be minimal,” he said.

Also speaking, Pastor Andrew Gladstone, General Overseer of a church in the affected community, commended NEMA and the Nigerian Red Cross Society for the rescue simulation exercise.

Gladstone said flooding had become recurrent in the area, occurring about twice yearly and causing hardship for residents.

“This flood situation has been coming often, maybe twice in a year, and it has caused a lot of challenges to us and the community around this place.

“We thank for NEMA, Red Cross. Who really help us a lot but we want government to provide lasting solutions so that this will not continue happening,” he said .

PoliticsKaduna 2027: Ndc's Hon Matt Promises Security, Prosperity In Chikun by Jatuski(op): 5:24pm On May 21
Ahead of the 2027 general election, a philanthropist, Honourable Matthew Moses popularly known as Dr. Matt has assured that if he emerges member representing Chikun Constituency in the Kaduna State House Of Assembly under the NDC party, it would be all round blessings for his constituents.

He made the promise at a special dinner held in his honour at the Neat Place in Kaduna on Tuesday.

"We deserve better. We deserve a community where hard work is met with opportunity, and where every citizen can sleep at night knowing their home, their neighborhood, and their future are safe.

"My vision for our Local Government is centered on three core pillars: Power, Economic Revitalization, Community Safety, and Infrastructure for Growth," he said.

On power, he described it as the first trigger for development, adding, "I am committed to
ensuring that we get as many power plants (Transformers) for people in Chikun, which will help businesses to thrive and also encourage investors to the area. I will invest in it."

While welcoming guests to his declaration of intention to represent the good people of Chikun Local Government in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, he said it was historic.

"No words of appreciation can convey my joy at seeing all of you here for my sake, and hopefully we will remember this day for the effect it will have on Chikun Local
Government.

"I am running for office because I believe that the defining measure of our community's success is not just how we are doing today, but the strength of the foundation we are building for tomorrow. Right now, that foundation is cracking.

"Too many of our neighbors are struggling to find steady work, and too many families feel that the sense of security we once took for granted is slipping away," he said

According to him, as part of his strategies, economic revitalization will be one of his top priorities.

"We cannot wait for prosperity to find us; we must create the conditions that make this district a magnet for investment.

"I will push for tax credits and grants specifically designed for small and medium-sized local businesses, and for external companies that commit to hiring locally.

"I will bridge the gap between our workforce and the modern economy by partnering with local trade schools and colleges to provide certification programs in high-demand fields like technology, green energy, and advanced manufacturing.

"I will advocate for the creation of a municipal incubator space where local entrepreneurs can access affordable office space,
mentorship, and administrative support to launch their ideas," he assured.

On restoring security in Chikun, he described Safety as a fundamental right.

"Economic development cannot take root in a place where people do not feel safe.

"Safety is a fundamental right, and it is the prerequisite for all other forms of progress," he stressed.

He therefore, said that community-based policing will be encouraged.

"I will promote a model of policing that emphasizes trust and transparency-ensuring our officers are integrated into the
neighborhoods they serve, rather than isolated from them," he stressed.

Hon. Matt also explained the importance of youth engagement programmes to end restiveness

"Security begins with prevention. I will champion after-school programmes, youth mentorship, and summer job initiatives to provide our young people with positive outlets and clear pathways to adulthood," he said.

On the importance of revitalizing commercial corridors, he said that they will invest in the aesthetic and functional improvement of main streets-better lighting, improved walkability, and
revitalized storefronts-to make the local government area a place where people want to spend their time and money.

On his commitment to constituents, Hon. Matt said with their support, a lot will be achieved through collective shared responsibilities.

"I am not here to offer empty promises or partisan talking points. I am here to offer a pragmatic, results-oriented partnership. I know that the challenges we face were not created overnight, and they will not be solved by a single individual
alone, but they require a representative who listens, who works across party lines, and
who understands that the only agenda that matters is yours.

"This is your Chikun. Together, we will turn the page on stagnation and write a new chapter of economic vitality and lasting security.

"Join me in building a future where our families can thrive and our community can finally reach its full potentials". He declared.

Politics2027: L LP Official Petitions Screening Committee Over Aspirant's Eligibility by Jatuski(op): 7:06pm On May 20
The Secretary of the Labour Party in Ebonyi State, Comrade Igiri Innocent, has petitioned the party’s Presidential Screening Committee in Abuja, calling for the disqualification of one of the party’s presidential aspirants, Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe, from participating in the 2026 presidential primary election.

In the petition dated May 20, 2026 and addressed to the Chairman of the Labour Party Presidential Screening Committee in the Federal Capital Territory, Igiri alleged that the aspirant failed to meet critical constitutional and party requirements needed to contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Allegation Of Dual Citizenship

The petitioner argued that Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe was constitutionally ineligible to contest for the presidency on the grounds of alleged British citizenship.

According to the petition, the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, provides under Section 131 that any person seeking election into the office of President must be a Nigerian citizen by birth, must attain the prescribed age, and must belong to a political party.

Igiri further claimed that Nwigwe had allegedly acquired British citizenship through registration or naturalisation, which, according to him, amounts to voluntary acquisition of another country’s citizenship and declaration of allegiance to a foreign government.

The petition maintained that such a status allegedly runs contrary to constitutional provisions guiding eligibility for the Nigerian presidency.

Questions Over Age Requirement

The Ebonyi Labour Party Secretary also alleged that the aspirant failed to satisfy the constitutional age requirement for presidential contestants.

Citing Section 131(b) of the Nigerian Constitution, the petitioner stated that any individual seeking election into the office of President must have attained the age of 35 years.

He alleged that Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe, born in October 1991, is currently 34 years old and therefore does not meet the constitutional threshold required to participate in the presidential race.

Dispute Over Party Membership

Beyond the constitutional concerns, the petition also questioned the aspirant’s membership status within the Labour Party structure in Ebonyi State.

Igiri, who described himself as a two time acting chairman and current state secretary of the party, said he had neither seen nor heard of Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe as a recognised member of the party in Ebonyi State.

He argued that even if the aspirant registered through the party’s online platform, such registration alone could not substitute for active participation within the party structure.

According to him, the aspirant had allegedly never attended meetings, paid dues, or identified with the grassroots leadership of the party in the state.

“The move is very suspicious,” the petition stated, while insisting that the aspirant was unknown to the state chapter of the party.

Call For Disqualification

Based on the allegations raised, the Ebonyi Labour Party Secretary urged the Presidential Screening Committee to carefully examine the constitutional provisions cited in the petition and disqualify Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe from contesting in the party’s 2026 presidential primary.

The petition adds to growing political scrutiny surrounding the emergence of aspirants ahead of the Labour Party’s presidential selection process, as internal party stakeholders continue to debate issues of eligibility, party loyalty, and constitutional compliance.

As of the time of filing this report, Samuel Chibuzor Nwigwe had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the petition.

Politics‎adamawa Central: Abbati"s Ambition Gains Traction Amidst Primaries Postponement by Jatuski(op): 7:37am On May 20

‎The postponement of the APC primaries of Adamawa central senatorial zone has become a blessing for the ambition of Aliyu Abdulhameed Abbati as more groups registered their support with his ambition.

‎Amidst uncertainty and allegations of deep rift between Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri over a preferred candidate, the people of the zone say Abbati came as a neutral factor not hobbled by the baggage of a godfather ahead of the primaries.

‎During separate meetings across the senatorial zone, a number of stakeholders and groups expressed total and profound support for Abbati's aspiration noting that out of the array of personalities vying for the Senate position only Abbati cares to meet them.

‎"I learnt that about five people have expressed desire to represent us at the Senate, but out of them, only Aliyu Abdulhameed Abbati cares to come down to our village to interact with us.

‎"While others go to sleep thinking that Godfathers will anoint them, Abbati who trust the real God is here seeking our support and God will fulfill his desires. We are going to give him our total and unflinching support," a resident of Wuro Ahi in Fufore local government, Bapullo Sani said.

‎In another agrarian community of Zah, in Hong local government, the people expressed appreciation for Abbati's visits saying it is a sign that he will serve them when elected.

‎"For Abbati's to brave the odds and meet us here, means a lot. We thought we no longer matter as politicians never come to us even during disasters. For Abbati to come here amidst security concerns and uncertainty means a lot to us. We shall pay him back with our votes," residents of the area including Hella Yaduma and Susuti Manzo said.

‎The same chorus of support across the seven local governments of the zone continued to trail Abbati's visits as more residents caution the critical stakeholders to be wary of imposition and allow the democratic process of free and fair primaries to take root.

‎In the same vein, residents of Jimeta have equally expressed similar sentiments saying that among those aspiring to represent the area only Abbati was visible.

‎"It is surprising that I learnt about six people want to represent us at the Senate, yet only Abbati is visible. He has been visiting various communities, groups and even individuals, holding press conferences and mounting campaign posters across strategic places.

‎"But while he is doing that, the others are no where to be found meaning that even if they get the position, they are goin to be bench warmers since they have not entered into any covenant with the people.

‎"For that reason we the people of Jimeta are sticking our heads with one of our own who has shown signs of responsible leadership. It is time for Jimeta to also taste the fruits of the support it has accorded others, it is time for Abbati," a resident of Jimeta Bello Salisu said.

PoliticsNEMA Holds Flood Preparedness Campaign In Katsina by Jatuski(op): 10:50pm On May 18
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday, held a stakeholders’ engagement and community outreach in Katsina State as part of efforts to strengthen preparedness against flooding and related disasters ahead of the rainy season.

The programme was organised under the 2026 National Preparedness and Response Campaign on Flood Disaster and Related Hazards.

Participants at the event included officials of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), security agencies, government ministries, humanitarian organisations, traditional institutions, women and youth groups, community leaders and the media.

Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, said the campaign was aimed at promoting early and coordinated action to protect lives and livelihoods during the 2026 rainy season.

Umar, represented by the Head of Operations, Malam Suleiman Muhammad, said the theme of the campaign, “Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance for a Resilient Nigeria,” highlighted the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

She expressed concern over recurring flooding in parts of the country and referred to the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

According to her, the reports identified several states and local government areas as vulnerable to flooding during the rainy season.

The NEMA boss said the agency had developed a 2026 Climate-Related Risk Management, Preparedness and Mitigation Framework to reduce the impact of flooding across the country.

She said the framework included capacity building, simulation exercises, infrastructure assessment, prepositioning of relief materials and evacuation planning for vulnerable communities.

Also speaking, Executive Secretary of Katsina SEMA, Hajiya Binta Hussaini Dangani, described the engagement as timely, considering the recurring flood incidents in the state.

Dangani commended Gov. Dikko Umar Radda for supporting communities affected by previous floods.

She disclosed that the agency had begun sensitisation campaigns in vulnerable communities across the state ahead of the rainy season.

A presentation on the 2026 Flood Anticipatory Action for Katsina State was delivered by Isa Abulkasir, after which participants discussed measures to strengthen preparedness and response coordination.

The engagement was followed by a sensitisation visit to Kwanar Are community in Rimi Local Government Area.

Officials said the community was selected because of its proximity to the Kwanar Are Dam, which had reached full capacity and could pose flood risks to nearby settlements.

Residents were sensitised on flood prevention measures, early warning signs, evacuation procedures and the need to comply with official weather and flood advisories.

Awareness materials in Hausa and English were also distributed to residents and stakeholders to support the spread of early warning information in vulnerable communities.

PoliticsTimi Frank Raises Fresh Alarm Over Alleged Plot To Abduct El-rufai From Court by Jatuski(op): 8:29am On May 18
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has alleged that there are plans by security operatives to take former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, into custody from the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.

Frank, in a statement in the early hours of Monday, claimed he received information from sources alleging that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) might attempt to arrest El-Rufai when he appears before Justice M.B. Idris of the Federal High Court.

He said: “Pursuant to what appears to be a grand plan by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to politically eliminate Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, I have been reliably informed that plans have allegedly been concluded by the DSS to forcefully take him into custody today (Monday) from the Federal High Court, Abuja, where he is meant to appear.”

According to him, such a move would allegedly contradict existing court orders directing that El-Rufai remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) pending the determination of matters before the court.

He further alleged that security operatives met the previous night to finalise arrangements for the alleged forceful abduction plot.

Frank said: “I reiterate that nothing must happen to El-Rufai. It is becoming increasingly obvious that he is being treated as a political target of the current administration.

“The President, the security agencies, and the Kaduna State Government must remember that power is transient and nothing lasts forever.”

The political activist also expressed fears that should any alleged attempt to permanently silence el-Rufai fail, the alternative plan may be to keep him in prolonged custody until after the 2027 elections.

He said: “It is unfortunate that Governor Uba Sani, once known as a civil rights activist who understood the importance of protecting citizens’ freedoms, now appears to be associated with actions many consider inconsistent with the rule of law, allegedly for political advantage.”

He urged authorities to respect the rule of law and avoid actions that could heighten political tension in the country.

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, further stated that any attempt to forcibly abduct El-Rufai from the court premises in defiance of subsisting court orders would amount to “an assault on the rule of law.”

He called on civil society organisations, northern leaders, religious groups, and the international community to closely monitor developments surrounding the case.

He said: This is the time for Nigerians, northern leaders, civil society groups, religious leaders, and all lovers of justice and democracy to rise in one voice against oppression and selective justice.”

While condemning what he described as selective justice, Frank maintained that anti-corruption efforts must be conducted within the bounds of fairness and due process.

“I support the fight against corruption, but such a fight must be fair, just, balanced, and devoid of political persecution,” he said.

Invoking the famous warning by German pastor, Martin Niemöller, Frank quoted:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Frank said the quote underscored the dangers of silence in the face of perceived injustice.

He also questioned whether El-Rufai was being singled out among former governors facing scrutiny in the country.

He said: “I reiterate that nothing must happen to el-Rufai. It is becoming increasingly obvious that he is being treated as a political target of the current administration. The President, the security agencies, and the Kaduna State Government must remember that power is transient and nothing lasts forever.

“If anything happens to el-Rufai, Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must be held responsible,” he declared.

PoliticsFrank Alleges Plot To Eliminate El-rufai, Calls For Release Of Tunde Ayeni by Jatuski(op): 8:15am On May 17
*Seeks US Intervention

*Calls for international sanctions against officials found culpable in undermining democratic freedom

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has alleged that there are covert plans within sections of Nigeria’s security establishment to eliminate former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, while also calling for the immediate release of businessman, Tunde Ayeni.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Frank claimed he received information from what he described as a “reliable source within the security agencies” alleging that some officials within government circles were plotting against el-Rufai.

“I received a troubling call from a reliable source within the security agencies alleging that there are plots to eliminate Nasir el-Rufai — a strategic plan allegedly orchestrated by top appointees within the government and the presidency,” Frank stated.

“According to the information, he may be administered a harmful substance and thereafter released so that any eventual death would not occur in custody.”

Frank urged security agencies and relevant authorities to ensure the safety of the former governor, warning that any harm suffered by el-Rufai after release from detention would raise serious concerns.

“This alleged plan must be stopped immediately. I must clearly state that if anything happens to el-Rufai, even after his release from detention, the government, top appointees involved, and any judge who may have collaborated in the process should be held responsible,” he said.

The political activist also alleged that some judicial officers were participating in what he described as prolonged detention through restrictive bail conditions.

“There are also allegations that some judges have agreed to participate in the illegal detention of these individuals by ensuring they are either denied bail or subjected to excessively stringent bail conditions,” he added.

Frank argued that el-Rufai’s continued detention was politically motivated because of his influence and role during the 2023 presidential elections.

“They understand el-Rufai’s political relevance, influence, and what he knows, especially considering that he was part of the political structure that worked towards the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last election,” he said.

While expressing support for anti-corruption efforts, Frank insisted that investigations and prosecutions must not be selective.

“I must state that I support the fight against corruption, but it must be fair, balanced, and free from political witch-hunts,” he stated.

“el-Rufai’s case is widely perceived as a witch-hunt, as he has remained incarcerated for over four months for allegations that are ordinarily bailable offences. Meanwhile, in other cases involving politically exposed persons, suspects reportedly walk in and out of the EFCC as a mere formality.”

Frank questioned why some former governors facing corruption allegations were allegedly treated differently.

“Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who was accused of massive financial misconduct allegedly running into trillions, is presently contesting elections freely for the position of Senator after aligning with the ruling party.

“Is el-Rufai the only former governor in Nigeria?

“What happened to the cases involving former governors such as Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Yahaya Bello, and Samuel Ortom, all of whom at different times faced allegations concerning public funds, yet continue to move freely, with some even receiving appointments?” he asked.

Frank further alleged that anti-corruption agencies were engaging in “selective prosecution and political intimidation” targeting both el-Rufai and Ayeni.

“For instance, Tunde Ayeni has been discharged by the courts in previous cases brought against him by the EFCC. There are concerns that he is being targeted because of perceived political affiliations and sympathy for the opposition,” he said.

“Tunde Ayeni is a businessman, not a politician. His experience appears to many as a witch-hunt designed to weaken him because of his perceived support for the opposition.

“Friends and business associates who have suddenly become close to government officials are behind his incarceration, which has now lasted for about 30 days.”

Frank urged the judiciary not to become an instrument for suppressing dissenting voices.

“Our judiciary must not allow itself to be used as an instrument of intimidation against those who hold differing political opinions,” he stated.

He warned that alleged abuse of state institutions could deepen public distrust in democratic governance and intensify concerns about political repression.

“If this pattern continues, it could further deepen public distrust, tension, and perceptions of dictatorship and illegality within the system. Our anti-graft agencies, such as the ICPC and EFCC, must avoid actions capable of setting the country on edge.”

Frank also expressed concerns over election integrity and the treatment of opposition figures ahead of future elections.

“There are also growing concerns among Nigerians regarding election integrity. Many citizens fear the possible misuse of state institutions, intimidation of opposition voices, suppression of dissent, politically motivated prosecutions, voter suppression tactics, and lack of transparency in the electoral process,” he said.

“Election credibility is essential not only for democracy but also for national stability and conflict prevention. When citizens lose faith in democratic processes, instability, extremism, and social unrest often increase.”

According to him, intimidation of opposition figures during elections had become common in several African countries.

“It has become a recurring pattern in parts of Africa that, during elections, opposition figures are harassed, intimidated, or unlawfully targeted. Many Nigerians now fear that similar strategies are being deployed against opposition voices in Nigeria.”

Frank who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, therefore called on the United States government, international observers, and global human rights groups to closely monitor developments in Nigeria.

“It is for this reason that I call on the United States government, the international community, and global human rights organizations to pay close attention and intervene where necessary to protect Nigerians from intimidation, harassment, and abuse of state power,” he said.

He also alleged that some government and security officials had participated in acts of intimidation against opposition figures and vowed to submit names to international authorities.

“Let me also put on record that I am aware that certain persons within government and security agencies have allegedly been involved in acts of harassment, intimidation, and suppression against opposition figures and ordinary Nigerians. Their names will be forwarded to relevant international authorities, including the United States government, as soon as practicable.”

Frank further called for international sanctions against any officials found culpable in undermining democratic freedoms.

“As part of the broader international response, I call for targeted sanctions against any officials found to be involved in abuses directed at opposition figures or the suppression of democratic freedoms. Such measures may include visa restrictions, asset freezes, and financial sanctions,” he added.

Politics‎adamawa APC Reps Primaries; The Beginning Of A Foreboding Catastrophe? by Jatuski(op): 7:43am On May 17

‎By; Dr. MAHMUD YAMAGI

‎What transpired during yesterday's (Saturday) All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries in Adamawa State has left many party faithful deeply wounded, disillusioned, and angry.

‎Across the eight federal constituencies, the exercise has been widely condemned by aspirants, stakeholders, and observers as nothing short of a charade, a carefully orchestrated travesty against democracy, and a betrayal of the principles upon which the APC claims to stand.

‎The bitterness trailing the exercise is not a creation of the opposition. It is coming directly from within the APC itself. Several aspirants openly raised alarm before the primaries, warning against alleged plots to impose candidates and manipulate the process. Yet, despite those warnings, the party leadership allegedly proceeded with a process many members now describe as predetermined and fraudulent.

‎One of the gravest dangers of this development is the growing perception that the entire process enjoyed the backing of two of the most dominant political figures in Adamawa APC; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Whether true or false, this perception alone is politically toxic and potentially catastrophic for the future of the APC in Adamawa State.

‎Only weeks ago, Governor Fintiri publicly declared that there would be “no room for imposition” in the APC and promised internal democracy. Today, many aggrieved aspirants and party members believe the exact opposite happened. Such contradictions erode trust and destroy confidence in leadership.

‎Before the primaries, several aspirants reportedly rejected what they described as an “alleged presidential list” containing preferred candidates for the House of Representatives seats. They warned that forcing candidates on the party would lead to “grave consequences” and possible disaster for the APC in future elections. Sadly, the party leadership appears not to have listened.

‎The APC must understand that democracy cannot survive where the votes, voices, and aspirations of party members are casually discarded in favour of elite arrangements. Political parties grow stronger through fairness, inclusion, and transparent competition, not through intimidation, manipulation, or backroom deals.

‎The implication of this crisis for Mallam Nuhu Ribadu is particularly troubling. Ribadu has spent decades building a national reputation as a disciplined public servant, anti-corruption crusader, and statesman. Many Nigerians still associate him with integrity and courage. However, the growing allegations linking his name to an allegedly manipulated primary process threaten to damage that hard-earned credibility.

‎In politics, perception is archetypal to reality. Once party members begin to see a leader as complicit in injustice, rebuilding confidence becomes extremely difficult.

‎Already, there were earlier warnings from political actors cautioning against dragging Ribadu into partisan manipulation in Adamawa politics. Unfortunately, recent developments may reinforce precisely those fears.

‎For Governor Fintiri, the situation is equally dangerous. Since his controversial defection to the APC earlier this year, the governor has been trying to position himself as a unifying force capable of stabilising the party and delivering electoral victories. However, if the APC primaries are now seen as an avenue for political conquest and domination rather than democratic participation, his standing among legacy APC members may deteriorate rapidly. The truth is simple: no political party survives for long when genuine members feel cheated.

‎History already offers painful lessons. In 2015, 2019, 2023 and even during earlier political realignments, internal divisions, imposition of candidates, and unresolved grievances repeatedly weakened political parties in Adamawa State.

‎Aggrieved stakeholders either worked against their own party or quietly sabotaged its electoral chances from within. The APC itself suffered from internal contradictions and factional battles that cost it dearly in previous election cycles. Today, the signs are appearing once again.

‎There is already widespread murmuring about possible anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 elections. Loyal party members who invested resources, time, and political capital into the APC now feel abandoned and humiliated. Many believe that the primaries were merely ceremonial exercises designed to legitimise predetermined outcomes.

‎If this anger festers unchecked, the APC may face a rebellion from within far more dangerous than opposition attacks. Political parties are rarely destroyed by outsiders; they are usually consumed by internal injustice and arrogance.

‎Many citizens believe political parties have become platforms controlled by powerful individuals rather than institutions driven by ideology and fairness. This perception is dangerous not only for the APC but for Nigeria’s democratic future as a whole.

‎The APC leadership in Adamawa must therefore urgently retrace its steps. The party cannot afford to dismiss the anger of aspirants and grassroots supporters as mere noise. Silence, arrogance, or attempts to suppress dissent will only deepen the wounds.

‎The leadership must immediately open channels of reconciliation, investigate complaints arising from the primaries, and reassure members that justice and fairness still matter within the party. Anything short of that may push many loyal members into open rebellion, passive resistance, or outright defection.

‎The greatest tragedy would be for the APC to repeat the same mistakes that previously led to avoidable defeats and political humiliation. A political party that refuses to learn from history is ultimately preparing for its own downfall.

‎And unless urgent steps are taken, the APC in Adamawa may once again discover too late that manipulated victories in primaries often become devastating defeats during general elections.
