Politics › Re: MEND Declares Ceasefire In Niger Delta by javarules(m): 7:47pm On Sep 22, 2008
In the art of war, one very good point to know is how to deal with the enemy. The same principle is supported in the Laws of Power, the principle is simple: Destroy The Enemy Totally.

In this case, the question is who is the enemy.

Yes MEND, but wait before you conclude. Have you been to Abuja, the nation's capital and been to Bayelsa State. Can you compare kaduna, kano and Sokoto states to Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states. These guys have been negleted for so long. They have been pushed to the wall. Even a goat will turn back at you when it gets to the wall.

The JTF, no I don't still agree with you. For all you care, there is a soldier in the JTF whose brother is a MEND. For all you care, there are soldiers here who are in this war only because they don't have any other means of feeding their family.

So who is the enemy, who should be detroyed totally, I'll tell you

The Senator who earns millions for doing almost nothing and still is greedy enough to embezle the money for his constituency.
The Minister who prefers to keep the money in his bank account than build one, just one good school
The Governor who rather builds castles in UK than provide for his fellow countryman
The Elder who keeps quite because of a meager 1million naira, when 200million should have been given to his people
The Local Government Chairman, who wears a 2million naira wrist watch, at the expense of his subordinates

These people are the real enemy, not MEND, not JTF. Now they want to see to the crisis, it could have been avoided, lives could have been saved. If you watch the movie The Rock(Nicholas Cage & Sean Connery), The president's speech before he authorised Alcatraz to be melted down is true here also

They didnt listen when it matters. They brought these upon us and the thousands of innocent souls that have been lost

The JTF have done right. Even if they are winning, who are they winning against?

There is a series of lessons on this site http://naijadukes.net on "How to build a webserver in java". The series is just starting so Java Newbies will benefit a lot by going there. The lesson is in the Newbies Section and we are just on lesson 1. Java Gurus too are invited to give comments on the source code and put in one or two performance tweaks.

I am gonna keep this short and simple

Applications whose jar files I used both in linux and windows without any tweaking. Some of them I build from source myself
SQuirell SQL Client
JUnit
log4j
HashQuel

Mobile Applications in Java/Symbian/Flash
I dont need to give u the percentages, google will do a better job that I can

GUI
Java is d only language where you have TRUE cross-platform look and feel. If you have not tried it, dont say it doesnt work. I have seen netbeans on both windows and linux
Matisse/.NET Builder(again google will do a better job in giving you the comparisons)

IDE
A million and one.  The super ones
IntelliJ
Eclipse
Netbeans
JBuilder
etc

The upcoming ones
JEdit
kawa
JNotePad
etc

Java has failed?
As a language - NO, no language can be called a failure if it survived the ten year rule(do you know about that? I doubt it)
As a platform - NO, tell that to JRuby, Jython, JavaScript(ask google(the company not the search engine) how they run javascript on the jvm), Groovy, Scala(the best functional around around), and dont forget to tell it to the birds too

Who uses java
Oracle (beat that M$)
IBM
Nokia
Motorolla
Sony Ericsson
Google(beat that again)
etc

Who says Java has failed?
lipsrsealed no one except @poster

4. Save, a window will pop up giving you a message from NickServ, just type /join #jand and press enter.
5. You will immediately be logged in to jand's IRC channel

6. If you close the window and you want to come back to the channel, simple

anyway I am a java programmer, done C# a bit but stopped because I dont have a windows system grin
It all depends on what you want to do, if you are a windows guy(which probably you are) c# is your best bet.
If you want to twist your minds a bit try F# grin
If you are a linux(OS X, Solaris, Unix, Mac etc), then you might want to stick with java.
Functional languages are also coming into the limelight, so laying your hands on scala might not be a bad idea(the truth is if u are a newbie to programming, its a bad idea grin)

that's all folks.

What is all dis? Most of the guys in here are sick believe and dose wu are not sick are something else entirely. In programming section we disagree a lot and we exchange hot words, but we dont go about abusing each other's parents!!! Haba.

I was doing a search on google for something and a post from this music section came up and the thing that caught my eye was ur father, ha ha abeg lets behave in  a civilised manner.

I wonder what Seun is doing leaving posts as abusive as that, I searched again and the list of abusive words to parents is limitless, guys lets come down and behave ourselves, we dey abusive our parents because of lagbaja or tamedu, wen the poor parents are at home and the guy we are fighting for or on is busy making money, a drop of which wont get to neither our parents nor us!!!

A beg, a word they say is enough for the wise, this thing don pass 100 words make we try change and cultivate a better habit.

All for Naija, tiwantiwa no shit

Programming › Quotes By Fredrick P. Brooks by javarules(op): 6:51pm On Aug 29, 2008
The programmer, like the poet, works only slightly removed from pure thought-stuff. He builds castles in the air, from air, creating by exertion of the imagination. Few media of creation are so flexible, so easy to polish and rework, so readily capable of realizing grand conceptual structures. Yet the program construct, unlike the poet's words, is real in the sense that it moves and works, producing visible outputs separate from the construct itself. It prints results, draws pictures, produces sounds, moves arms. The magic of myth and legend has come true in our time. One types the correct incantation on a keyboard, and a display screen comes to life, showing things that never were nor could be. , The computer resembles the magic of legend in this respect, too. If one character, one pause, of the incantation is not strictly in proper form, the magic doesn't work. Human beings are not accustomed to being perfect, an few areas of human activity demand it. Adjusting to the requirement for perfection is, I think, the most difficult part of learning to program. -Frederick P. Brooks, "The Mythical Man-Month: Essays on Software Engineering, Anniversary Edition (2nd Edition)" by Frederick P. Brooks , ISBN: 0201835959, page: 7-8

Haba? are u living in the 18th century or what? a jar file is an executable file in fact the name na executable jar file, and dts since java 1.4.2 or so

Anyway the cool way I use it jnlp. Here is a sample jnlp script, u can figure it out for yourself. Just save the file as anything.jnlp dts all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<jnlp spec="1.0+"

      codebase="http://www.devdaily.com/downloads/"

      href="Rehoboth.jnlp">

  <information>

    <title>Rehoboth E-GOld Generator</title>

    <vendor>Teemy By Forex</vendor>

    <homepage href="index.html"/>

    <description>Whatever you want to use as a long, or very long description</description>

    <description kind="short">this description is shortwer</description>
    <!--I am hoping you have an ICON, specify the url of the image here,-->

    <icon href="logo.gif"/>

    <offline-allowed/>

  </information>

  <resources>

    <j2se version="1.3+"/>

    <jar href="Rehoboth.jar"/>

  </resources>

  <application-desc main-class="com.devdaily.oss.typeahead.TypeAheadTest"/>

</jnlp>

The cool thing about jnlp is dt ur users can click on a link in their browser and if they have java it will download your jar file and run it.

If the person saved the jnlp(Save Target as) then the jar file(files) only get downloaded once. subsequently, the jnlp file use the local cache version of the jar file.

Another cool thing is if the timestamp on the online version changes, the jnlp automatically downloads the new version wen the user clicks it.

Well that info is cool, but he will have to set the path all the time he opens his command line. if he close it, blam his path has gone. also he wont be able to run any other command on the command line apart from the commands in java/bin. why not make life easier, add the path to the environment variables, so u dont have to do that everytime, Its been long since I do any windows but I think some guys here can help out, or better still visit http://naijadukes.com thats a purely java forum.

My other solution is create a batch file and place it in your windows/system32 folder(I hope windows still uses system32  embarassed   ). Creating a batch file is also easy

1. start notepad
2 Type the following commands

c:\pathtojavabindir\javac

NOTE: That if your path is in program files like C:\Program Files\ you might consider typing

c:\Progra~1\java\,  instead. I dont know if later windows have resolved that problem but to be on the safe side, just use Progra~1 instead of Program Files

3. save the file as javac.bat (make sure u select "all files" somewhere in Notepad save dialog).

now as u power on ur command line, to compile just type javac yourfilename.java

Now to run the file, type java yourfilename (without the extension). Mordern jdk's already put java in your path

But if peradventure you get and error message that java is not recognised or something like that, just repeat the steps above, replacing javac with java

How can I pick of digits form 5 Int numbers that are typed by the user with three spaces seperating them as in: 45489 to 4   5   4   8   9. Using only division and module operand. I will appreciate if you use peseudocode to answer my questions.
I think this problem has a simple solution. The one I will provide will solve for n length of string(replace n with 5 or whatever u like)

0. Start
1. Get d length of the String, n
2. raise 10 to the power of n, power
3. convert string to Integer, num
4. while num > 0
       divide num by power, adigit
       print  adigit
       print a single space
       let num => remainder of the above division ///i.e num = num % power
       let power = power/10 ///i.e divide power by 10, the shift operators may come in handy here if u want to use them, but the spec say only div and mod, we'll stick to that
5.    Print "This solution was provided on NairaLand, sponsored by JAND http://www.naijadukes.net/"
6.    Exit

Hope that works,

The tutorials at the java site are quite lengthy, I'll be more interested in something practical. If my only choice is to read the whole tutorial, WTF!, I damn will, but for now I'm looking for an alternative.
