9jakool: In Nigeria, there are 3 main regional languages. I'm sure if I go to Kenya, I'll hear more Swahili than English likewise if you go to Nigeria, you'll hear the regional languages than you would English. In Nigeria, the National news are broadcasted in Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and English. Even an int. org BBC recognize this, that's why they've officially list Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and Pidgin as their broadcast languages. What other African countries has 4 of its languages added to BBC?
That does not make you guys better than countries with common lingua..
freshest4live: Actually the first idea of independence for Africa to be conceived by a black man was from Herbert Macaulay, a Nigerian who influenced Nnamdi Azikiwe of Nigeria and Nkrumah of Ghana. You are right though there was the division as the Northerners had some arguements and refused to sign for independence and it was delayed for another four years else we should have gained independence before Ghana.
That was so cold what the northerners did... It's a high time Nigerians start working towards breaking this hatred and realize Nigeria will never be thesame if they they separate..
One day Africa will live and Trade as one country same like the U.S and E.U. Time may not be right now but it will surely come to pass.
We in Nigeria /West Africa had numerous Kingdoms & Empires. So, i think this is where we had a comparative advantage over you guys.
**** Buh i heard of a Kingdom in Zimbabwe, buh in South Africa?? Was there?
Another thing is that i don't think one's traditional clothes must be very developed before he takes pride in them. >>> Your fellow Bantu, Fally Ipupa from Congo proved this wrong by flaunting his Bantu culture full scale in his music ELOKO OYO. Have u seen it? I love the music. This song will surely receive nominations this year on african awards.
genieluv: Great. Are they nilotes? If yes, why didn't the Bantus copied some clothing styles from their nilotic n cushitic neighbours?
They shared so many things like names, Bantu learnt Animal keeping from Nilots while Nilots learnt Farming from Bantu, all adopted circumcision from Cushites.
We all have Masaai shukas in Kenya personally I have two but what people ware is something that comes naturally..
*** So, how come the South african bantus developed better clothes than the rest of you East african bantus?
>>> Some west african tribes were almost unclad as the Kikuyus were, buh they later joined the trend of those who had better clothes. The less civilized tribes were conquered n colonized by the civilized kingdoms n empires. I guess we influenced ourselves in West Africa.
Another thing that helped some of us west africans develop better clothes was the slave trade with Europeans from the 15th century.
It was all about influence as you said.. there were large Kingdoms in the South as compared to Kenya. Inland Kenya didn't trade much with the world hence they couldn't borrow much..
All friend borrowed something from the world.. We we were first unclad untill development of trade... Nigerian traditional cloths must have been borrowed from the Berbers and toaregs or Muslims
They were literally unclad.. That's why we keep telling you most of the large tribe have not lost there culture they just adopted something better..
They used animal skin as clothing to cover only the private part.. Trust me if Muslims were the first guys to reach Kenyan mainland, Keny would have had Abig influence from their culture.
genieluv: South Africans, Zimbabweans e.t.c still do traditional weddings n all manners of traditional festivals. Their tradition also never leaves their music, can't you see that they have produced some of the greatest african singers that represent african culture? The likes of Miriam Makeba, Black Mambazo, Chaka chaka, Brenda fassie e.t.c
****please, no basis of comparison between them n you guys.
Oooh my how do I explain to you now
I wish we had a Kenyan interested in this kinds of topics (fashion, music and beauty) Most rich musicians in Kenya are those who sing in vernacular languages... more rich than the kinds of Sauti Soul.
We have somany tribes wearing the tradition dress.. Same Oromos in Ethiopia are in Kenya, Same Swahili in Tz are in Kenya, Same Masaai in Tz are in Kenya, Same Karamajong in Uganda are in kenya, Same Somalis in Somalia are in Kenya..
We have Rendilles,Samburu, pokot, Marakwet, most Kalenjin subtribes, pokomos all this tribes practice true African traditions..
Below are some Swahili wedding by some Famous Kenyans.
This thread was created to show that Kenya is Better than Nigeria and Instead the opposite happened.
You want to restart the fight again? Kenya has already won.. read the title and ask your self where is this other one that Nigeria was ahead of Kenya..
genieluv: Yaah am ignorant cos your excuse looks so cheap n has been busted. ****See, i do not care about you guys (Kenyans), you guys should just learn to stay away from the lovely conversations on African culture between lovers of African culture on this thread n stay away from giving flimsy excuses about how the whites who intended to settle in your country made you loose your culture whereas there are other Africans with more whites in their country who are still proud n celebrate their african cultures to the fullest. You can be more Europeanized than the Europeans n that's your business @PissedYagami
>>>>At least i have the beautiful n lovely Ethiopians to keep me in good company on this thread. Good riddance to bad rubbish!
My dear just get out of that village of yours and explore the world..
Show me an everyday cloths dressed by South Africans, Zimbabweans, Namibians or guys from Botwana. Not those dancing clads but everyday cloths..
genieluv: Lol @ PissedYagami, buh didn't the whites also wanted to stay in Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia et al? Buh the people of these countries apparently aren't as westernized as you Kenyans.
freshest4live: This thread is so long because the Ghanians and South Africans were also involved at some point, and if there are Gambians here that thread would also be very long. This is because contrary to what many think, Nigerians love other African foreigners, and would want to discuss with them and even playfully tease some( especially the Ghanians). l'm also happy to chat with Ethiopians and Tanzanians here and even an Algerian, it is rare to find such people.
Gambians should also join here.. We need to know more about other countries..
TayserMahiri: You right. We would have to resort to bad mouthing like our brodas do when asskicked. Fortunately (or unfortunately ) was told they wont elect Malema which means their economy might do well in the next years. We got to hit double digits
mtis: please dont say that...Our crazy sista Nowenuse will start the hate thing again..You know of late she trying this east Africa and Hot vs Kenya an its not working..but man am loving it
This Sister of ours she is really funny, she loves to turn everything against Kenya to an extent of trying to fight us with our Neighbours..
