this december months is going to be the deal breaker as Ethiopian Air Is going to be convinced beyond reasonable doubt of the viability of enugu as and intl entry point to nigeria. all the former eastern regional ppl are going to use that airport for their trip back home for the holiday.

I got my ticket yesterday eventhough i had to pay more than what flying through Lagos would have cost me but am going to save money as my final point of call is 2hrs drive from enugu and will save me the hassel, but i decided to pay extra just for the convenience and the sheer joy of flying into nigeria for the first time through an airport other than Lagos not because i hate lagos but because variety is the spice of life, and i need more variety in my life LOL
And i also know 3 nigerian families in my area that are entering Nigeria through enugu for christmas they also got their tickets this month.

The topic (Nigeria Begins Use Of Cement For Road Construction Against Asphalt.) is misleading, This is beacuse Cement has always been in use in in Nigeria in the construction of unpaved roads in the country. Cement, beaues of its binding properties has always been used as a stabilzer in these unpaved roads, In Civil Engineering terms, we call such Cement Stabilized Roads.

But I believe the OP meant Rigid pavements( Concrete). That again is misleading because Rigid pavements have always been common in this country, at least as far back as before independence, an example is the access road network within the IITA Ibadan, instances can also be found all over the country.

In terms of merits or demerits, you cannot say in black and white that it is better than asphalt. This is because any Civil engineering solution is based on several factors including the scope of the proposed road, intended life span, geotechnical conditions, topographical conditions, climatic conditions, economy, construction methodology, and sevral other factors.

As an illustration , you will observe that most of the roads in bayelsa, especially the one leading to Rivers state is constructed as a rigid pavement. This, among several other factors may be because of the geotechnical conditions( sedimentary complex, low soil bearing capacities, high ground water level, etc.) , Climatic conditions( wet humid conditions ) and other factors.

The opposite is the case in Northern states. Though you will find Rigid pavements there, flexible pavements far outweigh them.

In other words, it is the project conditions and constraints that determine the best engineering solution between Rigid pavement, Flexible pavement, and Composite pavement. There is no one solution for every condition because Civil engineering aims to balance safety, durability and economy. So if you apply Rigid pavement in a context where flexible pavements will be better, you have just wasted money, and otherwise.

Civil engineering solutions must satisfy Limit State enineering philosophies.

In Highway design or construction, there are basically 3 elements. The horizontal alignment, the vertical alignment, and the pavement design. In pavement design, the Cbr value, Spt, Dcpt, plasticity and liquidity limits plus other intrinsic design factors dictate the pavement thickness and other outputs. the proposed traffic usage in MsA is also an important factor, in other words, it is not smart to just say because rigid pavements is common in western countries, we should also adopt it en masse in Nigeria, that view is myopic. Conditions are different, and that is what determines the design.

The construction is another matter entirely.

hence 32,179155300/140 =N 229,851,109

Conclusion Bauchi will spend N229 million per MW of electricity which is closer to the FG N260 million per MW.

If this does not strike anyone as placing the state in economic slavery by its corrupt state administrators then nothing will if 42% of the total 3.2billion contract sum went into the pocket of the corrupt officials then,

i will not be supprised if tomorrow we discover that the cost of Gas supplied to the 10MW plant in lagos is 42% more expensive than the one supplied to similar plants across the country.

I will equally not be suprised if we find out that the adminstrative cost of the 10MW plant is also 42% higher than what is obtainable anywhere else.

The 42% markup will be the amount that goes in the pocket of the corrupt state officials.

This is simply outrageous and every right thinking Nigerian should be appaled by this corruption by our public officials that might end up strangulating all of us.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria (NDPHC), James Olotu, who disclosed this during the commissioning of a transmission facility in Ayobo area of Lagos, said the contracts are to guarantee 4,774 megawatts of electricity.

The contracts, according to him, cover 10 power stations, gas pipelines, hundreds of thousands of transmission lines and other supporting equipment and services.

The Federal Government had voted this amount for the NIPP which began in 2006 and was earlier scheduled to be completed in 2009.

In the framework of the projects, several power stations will be built.

They include the Ihovbor Power Station, Benin in Edo State, with capacity of 4 x 125mw, Calabar Power Station in Cross River State, with capacity of 5 x 125mw, Egbema Power Station in Imo State, with capacity of 3 x 125mw, Gbarain Power Station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with capacity of 2 x 125mw, and Sapele Power Station in Delta State, with the capacity of 4 x 125mw.

OANDO Gas and Power (OGP), a subsidiary of Oando Plc and the Lagos State Government have completed the construction of a N3.2 billion Independent Power Project (IPP) in Alausa, Ikeja area of Lagos State.

The project, which is a 10.34Mega Watt dual fired power plant has already been slated for commissioning on Thursday in a bid to vastly improve the provision of power to the state secretariat complex in Lagos.

The natural gas fired plant is expected to significantly assist in the reduction of emissions that emanate from the more than 70 diesel generators that are currently in use within the Lagos State Secretariat area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Government had said that consistent and reliable power supply to the secretariat would increase the functionality and efficacy of its employees, which it described as key to the progression of the state.

OGP said in a statement yesterday that the Alausa IPP is the second successful project of such profile for Oando, following the Akute Power Limited’s 12.15 Megawatts power plant, which was commissioned to improve electricity supply to the Lagos State Water Corporation.

The statement said: “Oando has identified the need for IPPs as a welcome resolution to Nigeria’s crippling power problem, and is implementing a strategic framework which earmarks the development of critical infrastructure to harness the vast natural gas resources in Nigeria to accelerate industrialization, economic well-being, and value creation for relevant stakeholders.

“It is estimated that the entire secretariat requires an average of 4.0 megawatts; 5.5MW during peak periods and about 0.5MW during off peak periods. The disconnection of the Alausa secretariat complex from the PHCN grid will make additional electricity available to many residents in Lagos State, and the streetlights on the main Awolowo Road will be powered by the plant, thus enhancing security for road users at night.”

It added that with over N3.2 billion spent in the development of the plant, the project has provided employment to over 200 people from the construction period to commissioning, which is scheduled for October 17.

Fashola devised a creative method to go around federal obstacles to provide and guarantee uninterrupted electricity for our our critical infrastructures.

We have almost 50MW and we keep every single MW with miles of underground cable to transmit and distribute far far away from your obsolete National transmission grid, something no other state in Nigeria can do.

This is not about the amount of MW generated, it's the targeted purpose they serve on behalf of the people.

Lagos state built the first IPP in Nigeria @ 271 MW which was a mistake since we didn't get to keep in Lagos state because the FG feeds everything into the useless National grid, it was a terrible mistake and lesson to learn, but we devised a creative approach to get around your mediocre federal government and their BS.

Shebi, a little over 1 year ago it was just 10MW Island project, but today it's almost 50MW and another 114 is in the pipeline so who says we can not reach 1000 or more in no time?
