The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has promised to revamp water supply to Uyo Metropolis in a short time from now to ensure the availability of potable water supply to the residents of Uyo Capital City.
The Governor also announced that plans have been concluded to redesign the master plan of Uyo Capital city to make it futuristic and more modern so as to avoid congestion of traffic in the Uyo central area. The Governor made these promises while addressing the Elders and Leaders of Uyo Senatorial District who paid him a congratulatory and solidarity visit at the Government house on Wednesday, 4th June, 2015.
Speaking in response to the congratulatory messages and requests of the leaders of Uyo Senatorial District to accord Uyo senatorial district her prime position as the host of the
Capital City, the Governor assured them and by extension the entire people of the state that he will be just and equitable in the distribution of amenities and appointments. He however
emphasised that he will concentrate on empowerment of the people than political positions. “ I wish to assure you all, and
by extension the entire state that as a product of equity, justice will be done to all parts of the state. Equity, fairness and justice will guide my decisions” he enthused.
The Governor also informed his guests at the Governor’s office that he decided to visit St. Luke’s Hospital, Anua because of the need to look into the oldest medical institution in the
state towards improving it into a modern primary and secondary health care delivery institution.
Speaking Further the Governor announced his plans to concentrate on the improvement of the three major gateways into Akwa Ibom state including the Ibaka seaport which will
now be constructed on a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. Other areas to be improved are the link roads into the state and the Ibom International Airport where he broke the good news that a major state of the art terminal is underway.

thanked the people of Uyo Senatorial District for their unwaivering support which saw to his emergence as the Governor of the state and craved the continuance of that support to his administration.
Earlier, the leader of the team, His Excellency, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga who is the Chairman of the BOT of Uyo Senatorial District Leaders’ Forum (USDLF) and former
Military Administrator of the state on behalf of Uyo Senatorial District people had congratulated the Governor and informed him that Uyo people are the first to have decided on the solidarity visit on the Governor after his
inauguration and assumption of duty as Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Noting that Uyo is the capital city where
most visitors would make their first impression of Akwa Ibom State, he pleaded with the Governor to continue with the tempo of urbanisation of Uyo as was done by his
predecessor in office, Senator Gobswill Akpabio, CON.
Otuekong Nkanga who was the Director General of the Divine Mandate Campaign organisation of Mr. Udom Emmanuel
also pledged the unflinching support of the entire Uyo Senatorial District people to the Governor and prayed for his success in office. “You have started well and we are here to
assure you of our solid support” he declared.
Other people who also spoke and gave their goodwill to the new Governor were Obong Paul Ekpo, the PDP Chairman in the State; Senators Anietie Okon and Effiong Bob; and Chief Uwem Ita-Etuk, the Political Leader of Uyo Federal Constituency. While Senator Okon emphasised the need to relate well with the Uyo zone, Senator Effiong Bob asked the
Governor to answer the question in the lips of people of Uyo zone, to wit: “what’s there for Uyo?” Which was asked even before the general elections.
The event was attended by political leaders from the nine LGAs in Uyo Senatorial District including Ambassador Sam Edem, Obong Essien Esema, Rt. Hon. Peter Ekpe Atakpo,
Otuekong Raphael Bassey, Hon. Mark Esset and Hon. Enobong Uwa. Other people also in the delegation were Mrs. Roberta Edem, Mrs Sarah Esitikot, Barr. Christine Akpan, Obong Effanga Inyang, Mr. Akan Okon, Isantim Keneth Okon, Obong Ukpong Dan Umoh and Engr Offiong Akpabio. The entire delegation pledged to stand by the govertnor and support him till the end of his tenure.

Quality should not be sacrificed at the altar of mediocrity. Odili built a flyover in slaughter junction in port harcout when he was governor using a cheap construction firm ballantine thay did a terrible job and today that flyover has collapsed and is of no use to the people. Udom should award contract to company with good track record. PW has no good track record i remember in the !990's when they were using wheelbarrow to construct roads in Uyo. the locals called the "Poor workers" PW construction company because of the poor work they did back in the day.

Uyo-Etinan road? It means Ekparawa roundabout would be blocked and we'd have to use Idoro road to get to Abak and Plaza. Not bad.

Its a good project but why award the contract to PW? what happend to Julius berger or CCECC who is dualizing the said road?

Wow this is good he is continuing in the foot steps of Akpabio. that will be flyover #5 in Uyo alone, I think its time to spread out the development to other senatorial Districts. Eket, Ikot Ekpene SD should get Flyovers too.

My concern is with the construction company PW! this company does very bad work. all the roads the did in the state in the 1990 were all substandard. and recently the FG awarded them the contract for rehabilitation of Enugu airport, they did a terrible job when it rains enugu airport is totally flooded.

Udom should use first class construction firms like Julius berger, CCECC,RCC, Setraco etc like Akpabio Did. I dont like PW that company sucks.

AKSG To Construct Flyover At Ikot Oku Ikono Junction
In the strong move to ease traffic at the threshold of the capital city and to consolidate the dualization project of the Uyo-Etinan Road, the Government of Udom Emmanuel Tuesday awarded the contract for the design of a dual carriage –way and flyover across the Ikot Oku Ikono junction. The Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang disclosed this while on a regular inspection of project sites in the state. Mr Inyang said government is sensitive to the influx of people into the state, especially the capital city. He said the project when executed will allow commuters coming in from Abak gain access easily into the town and those going to Abak from Uyo to use the fly-over while those coming in from Idoro Road and Etinan town will negotiate via ground ways.
The commissioner of works who was accompanied on the project inspection by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of works, Dr Ifreke Ekpa , Director of Civil Engineering, Efiak Edoho and Director of Electrical Engineering Engr Udo Abang urged the contractors, P W Nigeria Limited to the deliver the design of the project in less than thirty working days as the governor is much concerned about avoidable loss of lives of innocent commuters.
In his response, the Project Manager, Engr G. Bucknall promised the government of Akwa Ibom State to deliver the project in record time while soliciting for more project engagements from the Ministry of works.

If you look carefully at the picture you will notice open gutters, "ofesea" do not build roads with open gutters.besides that, area is really nice. Am just happy that Nigeria is finally imbibing the practice of building embankment to prevent landslides occasioned by erosion which the southern part of Nigeria is very prone to. We will get the beautification right with time.

^^ I would have sworn that the pics was from outside the country. I've noticed that grass always looks good on Akwa Ibom. Could it be because of the soil type or climate.

Ibiono LGA has a thick rainforest that is kept very wet by constant rainfall and the cross river that's just a few miles away. If you look due north at the picture you will notice the thick green palm vegetation which is characteristic of the area. Yes it has a lot to do with the climate and soil type, But grasses can grow anywhere if watered and tended to.

Oron has hosted the National museum for decades what benefit has it brought to oron? even the Federal road that leads to that museum has not been fixed in the past 30 years, the state museum in Uyo which by the way am proud of because of its architectural design and beauty being an architect myself is nothing to be ashamed of, its our state museum just like Uyo is our state capital, we Oronians must be proud of whatever is in our state no matter where it is sited after all its our oil money that was used in building it. the uyo museum belongs to oron more than the oron museum belongs to us. next time you stop at oron museum please find out how many oron people work there and compare that number to oron speaking people in Akwa Ibom State ministry of culture and tourism the operator of the Uyo museum and you will know the difference.

Ibaka deep sea port relocated to new site

THE proposed Ibaka deep sea port, Akwa Ibom, has been relocated to Ibeno Local Government Area, while the name has been changed to Ibom from Ibaka.
Vanguard gathered that the project analysis done by a foreign consultant and Transaction Advisers, FELAC Concept and Marine and Transport Business Solutions, MTBS, of Netherlands, showed that the port project would not be commercially viable if sited at Ibaka due to its long distance from the sea..
A source close to the Ministerial Steering and Delivery Committee for the port who spoke to Vanguard, explained that the project had to be moved initially to Okposo. The source further noted that the same problem of distance from the sea as well as the dense population, made it non-viable.
The source said that the soil analysis on Okposo showed that the earth there is marshy which would further drive up the cost of construction should it be sited there.
The source pointed out that the project had to be moved again to the third site at Ibeno Local Government Area and the name had to be changed from Ibaka to Ibom, like all other projects of the state to give it a state colouration.
The distance from the new site to the sea is about 20 nautical kilometres and also it is closer to the connecting expressway for quick evacuation of consignments from the port at completion, the source disclosed.
The source also said that the area is less populated, making compensation for displaced persons easy, as well as making the new site for the project commercially viable.
The transport ministry source said that one of the major challenges faced by the committee at the new site was the presence of under-ground oil pipelines.
The source explained that the Committee held several meetings with the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS, and the various oil companies on how to work around the pipelines.
The oil companies agreed to relocate some of the pipelines that were no longer active away from the area to aid quick construction of the port.
The source explained that construction work on the project is expected to commence sometime next year on a Public, Private Partnership.
It added that a few little details left on the part of government would soon be taken care of for construction work to commence.
On financing, the source disclosed that the private sector is expected to have 60 percent while the Federal and state governments are expected to hold 20 percent each. According to the source, “No government can fund a port project but it can only be achieved through a Public/Private sector partnership.”
Foreign concerns are already making inquires on what is required to partake in the financing of the project.

Seven Ports Ready to Invest at Ibaka Deep Seaport

Seven port authorities in the world have indicated interests to participate in the development of Ibaka Deep Seaport in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Godswill Akpabio, who stated this on Monday when elders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Oro nation paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Uyo, mentioned Bolorous, a Spanish group among the core investors.

Akpabio, however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for granting approval for the commencement of Ibaka Deep Seaport and Ibaka Deep Seaport Authority, which confers on the port the status of a Free Trade Zone licence that will enable prospective investors to build and pay no tax for five years.


He recalled that the state government had spent a huge amount of money to secure documents to meet international requirements for the port, and attributed delay in getting approval of the port to strict due process. He said the port has received approvals from Nigerian Port Authority and the Federal Ministries of Finance and Transport.

The governor said the port expected to create 50,000- 100,000 jobs for the youths would complement that of Apapa in Lagos and other ports in the country, calling for sensitisation and education of the youths to guarantee peace and community cooperation in the area.

Akpabio further stated that the Federal Executive Council has approved the establishment of Federal University of Maritime Studies at Oron to offer Ordinary National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and degree to students.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Esin Nkereuwem had lauded the governor for the construction of roads, provision of free education and establishment of Akwa Ibom International Airport, among others in the state.

Nkereuwem, therefore, called on the governor to fully integrate Oro nation into mainstream politics of the state, and appealed to him to redeem a bus pledged to Methodist Church Nigeria, Oro Diocese.
