To ensure free and fair polls INEC distributed election materials 48hours to today's election: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of materials for the supplementary governorship election in Anambra scheduled for Nov. 30. A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited INEC headquarters in Awka on Thursday, reports that many officials of the commission were seen collecting the materials. The materials collected include inks and ballot papers, while the result sheets were still being waited for. An official who spoke to NAN under the condition of anonymity said she was at the headquarters to collect the materials as was directed. She confirmed that she had collected ink and ballot papers, but that she was yet to collect the result sheets for the exercise. Mr Frank Egbo, INEC’s Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the distribution of materials in an interview with NAN. He added that the commission had been having several meetings to ensure that the exercise was hitch-free. NAN recalls that INEC’s Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had announced Nov. 30 as date for the Anambra supplementary election after the commission’s meeting on Nov. 22 in Abuja. He said the supplementary election would hold in 210 polling units across six local government areas (LGAs) of the state, where elections were cancelled. Jega had said there were no sufficient grounds or pieces of evidence to warrant a total cancellation of results of the Nov. 16 election which were already announced.(NAN |

GEJ should order the police and army to get the damn man shot immediately.. Next time they will learn to respect the seat of presidency.. |
Mr Eziachi: This is South African city of Pretoria. Does it look like Nigeria and South Africa are mates..?
|
Eziachi: South African has those things, you still talking the usual our level of development. If you have money, you don't have to wait to be 300 years old to have something as simple as broadband. When America was this level of your development, their president still goes to work with bicycle and your has 8 fleets of aircraft. Not that some Nigerians can't afford it right now, but what about the majority of Nigerians? I think government should focus more on those areas that affects us most where we have urgent need for which is : food, shelter, healthcare, energy, water, good roads etc.. South Africa is more or less operating at the same level with some European countries and Nigeria cannot pretend to operate on the same pedestal when in reality we are still battling with basic tools of life. |
Eziachi: You are right in your sentiment but, no modern and serious govt got its role set as building shopping mall or McDonald/KFC chicken restaurant, that is the work of private people who want to invest their cash to make money. The highlighted is the reason why I said you are still very far from facing realities. Our problems at this level of our development are not those stuffs you listed but roads, light, water and food on our table. An average Nigerian or African does not have the need yet for Fibrotic and all those hightech stuff you have mentioned. Face realities of our time biko.. |
[s] Eziachi: Your both ideas of silent and achiever, I don't know which is more laughable or is it Peter Obi grand gesture of a pickup truck paid from his personal pocket (?)with a ground bigger than those watching Somalian women football league.[/s] TRASH! Must you comment? This is Nigeria, go back to exile and remain in your America or Congo where you are more or less a slave.. |
The winner will eventually emerge tomorrow.. Its a clean win for Obiano whether Olaniyi Ngige participates or not.. ![]() |
Awka – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the restriction on human and vehicular movements in two local government areas in Anambra during Saturday’s supplementary governorship election. A statement from the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukaogu, in Awka on Friday named the local governments as Idemili North and Onitsha South. It also said the restriction would begin at midnight on Friday and end at 6 p.m. on Saturday. According to the statement, the restriction was to ensure a successful and peaceful conduct of the supplementary election. It warned travellers passing through the state to find alternative routes during the period. The statement also warned politicians and other individuals not to move about with security officials and appealed for total compliance with the directive. It warned that “anybody who flouts this order will be arrested and prosecuted. “These measures are geared toward a hitch-free conduct of election in the state on the aforementioned dates.” The supplementary election will take place in 210 polling units in the state. They include 160 polling units in Idemili North, 17 in Onitsha South, four in Oyi, six in Anambra West, one in Aguata, three in Ayamelum and one in Anambra East. The other polling units are one in Anaocha, two in Awka North, one in Awka South, two in Ekwusigo, one in Idemili South, three in Ihiala, two in Nnewi South and four in Orumba North. The election of Nov. 16 and the rescheduled exercise in Obosi on Nov. 17 which were declared inconclusive gave rise to Saturday’s exercise. APGA has won awaiting coronation.. ![]() |
SEEING Dr. Willie Obiano, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the November 16, 2013 governorship election on Sunday, November 17, 2013 when Professor James Epoke, the state returning officer in the election declared the election inconclusive, and last Wednesday when he joined some South-East and South-South governors in a group photograph after their meeting in Awka, it was obvious that he is already looking beyond tomorrow’s supplementary polls. Having garnered 25 per cent of votes in 18 of the state’s 21 local government areas and having for now, the highest number of votes, Obiano is waiting for Sunday to be declared winner. After addressing reporters at the Governor’s Lodge in Awka, Governor Peter Obi beckoned Obiano, who was among the crowd, to come and the governor introduced him to the visiting governors as the man who would soon join them. One after the other, the governors – Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta, Godswil Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Theodore Orji of Abia, Sullivan Chime of Enugu and Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Dave Umahi – took a close look at Obiano and were perhaps weighing how he would fit into the murky waters of Nigeria’s politics, if he eventually wins. Going by the voting pattern in the already concluded elections, it would be very difficult for any party to surpass the number of votes he has secured. About 113113 votes would be in contention tomorrow in about 211 polling units. For the PDP or APC to surpass him, one of them has to secure at least 85,000 votes with APGA scoring no vote. Three parties, APC, LP and the campaign organization of the PDP candidate, Comrade Tony Nwoye, have said they would not participate in the supplementary election, but the PDP leadership is insisting that it would participate in the supplementary election. Already, the disagreement among PDP members has led to the suspension of the director general of Tony Nwoye Campaign Organization, Prince Okey Ezenwa. Anambra State chairman of PDP, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, at the party’s state secretariat, announced the suspension of Prince Ezenwa and his director of publicity, Mr. Ken Arinze from the party over their alleged comments on the Anambra governorship election. Emeakayi said their suspension was in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution, Chapter 10 Section 57 (3). He said: “Following developments in our party regarding the unauthorized publications in the media credited to some members of our party over the supplementary governorship election scheduled for November 30, 2013, the State Working Committee of PDP, at a meeting, reviewed the whole situation and resolved to suspend Prince Victor Okey Ezenwa and Honourable Ken Arinze from PDP for anti-party activities. Both breached the provisions of the party’s constitution. The relevant chapter provides that a member could be suspended for a period not more than one month, after which it could be reviewed.” Emeakayi said the two suspended members have been referred to the PDP disciplinary committee for appropriate action, adding that most members of PDP have condemned the action of some members who have been insulting the national publicity secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh for expressing the position of the party’s leadership on the Anambra election. The chairman said Metuh has been doing his job well and should be commended. However, what appears to be baffling PDP members was when Emeakayi said he has been in touch with the party’s candidate in the Anambra election, Prince Tony Nwoye, adding that “Nwoye and PDP have agreed to participate in the supplementary election on Saturday because they were deceived by one of the opposition during the rerun of the election in Obosi in Idemili North where, he said, the APC earlier said it would not participate only for the party to send agents and ensured that the party was voted for. He said the votes in Obosi helped APC to narrow the gap between PDP and APC and insisted that PDP would not allow that to happen again on Saturday because the party would want to maintain it second position. According to Emeakayi, “what it means is that the campaign team and the candidate are not on the same page on the issue of the supplementary election and we regret that the campaign team has been deceiving the public and bringing PDP into public ridicule. I want to state that the best way to ensure unity in PDP is to maintain discipline and the leadership of the party would never relent in striving to achieve that.” But while APGA is hoping to coast to victory tomorrow, the court action instituted by Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, one of the party’s governorship aspirants praying that Obiano be disqualified based on alleged double voters’ registration, is causing disquiet in the state. Ekwunife has already filed the court processes at the Federal High Court, Awka. The federal lawmaker was said to have said that her action was to ensure that APGA did not lose out in the event of Obiano losing the position. But the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, told Vanguard that what Ekwunife did was unacceptable to the party and wondered what she stood to gain knowing very well that her action was an exercise in futility because Obiano never committed the said offence. Umeh said: “Ekwunife wanted to be governor and she did not get it. She wanted to be deputy governor and did not get it for obvious reasons. That is not the reason she should be desperate and there is no basis for her action. “She is bringing her political career into disrepute. This is somebody who contested against Governor Obi in 2010. After that, she came into APGA and we accepted her and gave her ticket for House of Representatives. She has indeed embarrassed the party. She is a lady after my heart, but on this issue, she is on her own.” With many governorship candidates saying they would participate in the supplementary election, it is to be seen if APC will eventually direct its supporters to participate in the exercise. The ADC candidate, Chief Anayo Arinze said his colleagues have agreed to participate, saying: “I wish to appreciate and commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its decision to conduct a supplementary election in some 201 polling units in Anambra state on Saturday 30th November, 2013 to make-up the perceived deficiencies in the November 2013 governorship election in the state. “Given INEC’s declaration of the November 16, 2013 governorship election in the state as inconclusive, we in ADC believe that only a supplementary election will afford the disenfranchised voters another opportunity to exercise their civic responsibilities. I humbly appeal to all disenfranchised registered voters in the affected polling units and local government areas to ignore any negative call and come out en masse and participate in the electoral process that will produce the next governor of Anambra State. “Anambrarians should stand by INEC to successfully complete the electoral process and announce the eventual winner of the election. Voters in Anambra state and INEC should disregard any call for outright cancellation of the entire election because it is the handiwork of forces from outside Anambra State, who want to set our state ablaze while developing theirs. “I plead with my co-contestants who are aggrieved over some irregularities perceived at the election to sheath their swords and resist being pulled by external forces to destroy our state. It is true that there were some irregularities which have been acknowledged by INEC but that cannot vitiate the fact that the November 16, 2013 governorship election was the freest, fairest and most peaceful election ever conducted in the history of Anambra state. It is therefore, against natural justice, equity and fairness if INEC is forced to cancel the entire election because of the little challenges it encountered in about 201 polling units out of over 5000 polling units. “The call for outright cancellation of Anambra state governorship election is evil, mischievous and unpatriotic and should be ignored by all well-meaning citizens. “Let me use this opportunity to call on my fellow party flag-bearers in Anambra governorship election to continue to participate robustly in the electoral process to enable a clear winner emerge. After all, of the 23 of us, only one person can be governor and that person must be an Anambrarian. We must all come together to move our state forward.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/anambra-supplementary-polls-obiano-waits-coronation/#sthash.ReOI69Bi.dpuf

WE ARE COMMITTED TO SECURITY IN ALL THE PARTS OF ANAMBRA STATE Governor Peter Obi said that the state Government is committed to the maintenance of security in all the parts of the State. He said this yesterday while presenting security vehicles fitted with gadgets to Major markets in the State and money for boreholes in some markets. Some of the Markets that have received theirs are: Old Mercedes Benz Spare Parts Dealers Market, Nkpor; Mgbuka, Obosi; Ochanja Market, He assured that other markets will receive theirs in due time. Obi, who recalled that his Government had bought over 500 vehicles for the police, 250 to all the communities in the State, said that the ones presented to the markets were part of the comprehensive strategy of his Government to tackle security issues in holistic manner, thus creating enabling environment for business and industries that employ the people to thrive. Obi who explained the policy thrust of his Government to market people, said that the development Anambra State will witnessed in his remaining three months would be unprecedented. “As I speak, we are taking delivery of 25,000 computers for schools in the State. We shall shortly commence the development of Nnewi Shopping Mall, Three Arms Zone, among others. What is satisfying to me is that though we cannot finish all the projects, we have money set aside for them. In terms of investment for the State, I am also happy to inform you that by the time I leave, I would have left over N20 Billion in savings for the State.” He assured that more access roads would be reconstructed to give easy access and boost socio-economic activities as well as clean up the entire environment. At Ochanja market, the Governor noted that the reconstruction of the Ziks’s Avenue, Fegge, Onitsha was on course and when completed would enhance free flow of traffic in the area. Responding the Chairman of Mgbuka, Obosi, Chief Ifeanyi Okafor thanked the Governor for fulfilling all promises to the market. Chief Okafor assured that traders would continue to give APGA government all necessary support to complete its vision. Similarly, the Chairman of the Old Mercedes Benz Spare Parts Dealers Market, Nkpor , Mr. Chukwujekwu Anunebi said unlike some other politicians, Governor Obi had restored honesty and confidence in governance. The traders trailed the Governor with songs of solidarity. Caption for the Pic Gov. egift: I posted this earlier, let me share with you. Did you ever in your dream knew that Niger Deltan will produce the president of Nigeria in this life? That is the same way Igbo man will become president of Nigeria, it will be like a dream to many including you who is doing arithmetics. POWER comes from GOD, If not Jonathan wouldn't smell Aso Rock. GOD does not work with the calculations of men. Even the Bible says that we should be anxious for nothing.. |
Abagworo: I agree with you 100% but the use of the phrase "by far" is too extreme. It is better you simply use "the most populous". Anambra is the 2nd smallest State in landmass and that makes its population density higher than all States except Lagos which is the smallest. Imo is the 3rd smallest and is also the 3rd most densely populated. Balanced comment.. I give this write-up a passmark.. |
asha 80: is this dora akunyili? GBAM.. |
APGA only has decent and result oriented people with integrity in their midst..
|
Abagworo: Onitsha is a small city and cannot be compared with Lagos or Port-Harcourt. Remember many of us are widely travelled and do visit all these places. Anambra is more populous than Imo not because of Onitsha alone but because of a dense population concentrated in the South and central parts of the State which also spills over to the Northern half of Imo State which is closely behind.Nwokem stop this your usual misleading comments about Onitsha. Onitsha has grown beyond Onitsha North LGA and Onitsha South LGA, it has encroached into Ogbaru, Obosi, Oba, Ogbunike, Nkpor, Ogidi etc. Even where the Onitsha West Africa Trade Center is being built is in Ogidi, but that area has now been tagged part of Onitsha theoretically but technically its not in Onitsha LGA. |
the warrior72: You know yorobars loves Ngige more than us, and they so much believed in him that he can deliver haven been 'tested and trusted'. We therefore offered the same Ngige for them to make him there presidential candidate. |
