Erm....about the children, I learnt a long time ago that charity organizations introduced this .
Very often in a bid to boost the children's morales and encourage other children, disabled kids or children with special needs are paired with football stars to walk hand in hand onto the football field. Imagine a kid accompanying his/her soccer idol onto the field holding his hand before a big game. Must mean the world to most kids .

In football, A player is in an offside position when he or she is in the opponents' half of the pitch and closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last opponent (usually the last defensive player in front of the goalkeeper)
