Culture / Tears For A Loving Mother by jechona(m): 5:13am On Sep 13, 2013
Please what is happening to me

In my dream this night (some minutes ago), I mistakenly passed one of my nursery school teachers without greeating her, she had to call me before I went to her and laid on the floor to greet her and apologise for passing without greeting.

But what I dont understand now is that, after I left her, I felt guilty of passing a loving Mother without greeting and started crying, suprisingly, I woke with tears on my eyes and was shading tears seriously without control for more than 15 minutes. i don't know why.

Even as am writing this post now, tears is dropping from my eyes.

Please can someone tell me what is happening to me?

OAM4J: You dont seem to get it.

It doesn't matter if any religion, culture, document/law approves it. The question is knowing what we know about motherhood and family today, is it right? Will you approve your under age sister and daughter to get married?

Can a 13/14 year old child adequately handle the pressure of pregnancy, motherhood and marriage?

If we believe these children are not even capable of deciding a good leader for the nation during elections, why do we think they are capable of making a serious decision such as marriage for themselves.

We should be fighting to remove such abuse from every religion, culture and law books and not justify or approve the abuse with them.

i seriously agree with you.
Some people don't reason when taking decisions. Perhaps, thier plight for sex has taking over thier brain.

Culture / Re: What Is Missing In The Niger-delta by jechona(m): 9:58pm On Jun 24, 2013
bloggernaija: Nothing is missing. They have been failed by their leaders. The Niger delta has always been at the national cake sharing table since independence.owning an oil well does to translate to diddy squat.
How many of the people with oil wells actually create jobs from other ventures. Apart from dangote and adenuga.none.also why are blacks always jealous of the success of another person while they are so eager to kiss the bum of foreigners . After all , most oil wells are owned by foriegners.
The Niger delta elites may not have oil well (some do or were given oil wells during the military era), the level and sophistication of oil theft translates to having one.
Anybody who has ever been to the Niger delta knows about the sheer amount of money in circulation.the money is simply not filtering through to the people .
.
so what do you think is the way forward for the Niger-Delte?
Culture / What Is Missing In The Niger-delta by jechona(m): 8:18am On Jun 23, 2013
When I read the thread about 10,000 ex-militants going back to the creeks some days ago, I began to wonder how come the people whom the oil wells are located in their communities are begging for compensation while the wells are being owned by people who are not from anywhere near these communities? What happened that nobody in the oil well communities own any of the wells? Please can we discuss so we can know the secret behind this mistery.
Thank you as you share your views.

Education / Re: Masters Abroad by jechona(m): 9:41pm On Jun 01, 2013
HARDDON: ofcos, most foreign Universities are way better than what you have in Nigeria.

the practical sessions( depending on your field ), the work throughs, the readily available staff members to answer your Qs. the organization. the environment. the dedication to work. the social life. the lecturers put in their best to make you the best. they don't fail you to boost their ego. they are sad when you aint doing well. unlike what you have in Nigeria.

but

first you have to know which course you wano major and which country best offer that.

you would have to put a lot of thoughts into the financial aspect. if you know you cant afford the money, research for scholarship( either part or full scholarship).

when choosing a country, please be sure not to pick racists countries like Russia.... blacks are still be killed like chicken till tomorrow.

I actually got a state financed scholarship sometime ago, we went to the government house for a farewell speech. they gave us brown envelops(pocket monies). I thanked them and took off: never got into the plane the next day. I had a better offer anyways.

Perhaps, some of these countries we are going to might be like Nigeria.

Culture / Is It That Some Nairalanders Don't Understand English? by jechona(m): 5:23am On Apr 22, 2013
Let me start by appologising to those that will be angry at me on this issue, I don't mean to insult or embarass anybody.
Please pals am marveled if some of us don't understand english, or is it that most ops don't know how to write or express themselves well? Because mosttimes, someone will create a thread for one reason or the other and the next thing you see after the op's write-up is an irrelevant or far out of point comment. Most times, it leads to or ends up in a fight or a baseless arguement thereby, defeating the purpose of that thread. This is common with threads concerning oppositte sexes, government and religion.
Please can we address this issue and probably suggest and share positive ways on how to go about threads on nairaland so as to make it a better and more interesting place for us rather than a fighting zone.
Thank you. And please the floor is open for your comments and advice.
Health / Re: Stop Wearing Bras, Scientists Warn Women by jechona(m): 4:48am On Apr 19, 2013
But come to think about it, do we think God was stupid to give women bosoms without bra? God made a perfect design in every one, so its our own mentality that brings about the bra. The supporting muscles in front are strong enough to carry the bosoms without stress.
Health / Re: Maltreatment Of Nigerians By The Medical Profession by jechona(m): 11:58pm On Feb 25, 2013
thorpido:
To think once u get to the hospital, they must save your life is an illusion.Have u ever heard the statement,'we care but God heals'.Do you know that in Nigeria people badly manage their health and present in the hospital only when it is bad.
You are probably one of those people who think the hospital is a charity organisation.Do you realise the hospital is also a business? How do you want the doctors, nurses and other health workers to be paid salaries promptly and other expenditure taken care of if money is not seriously considered in the hospital? If u want free service, then you should keep telling your government to provide that.I want you to know that till date, there is no free service.I must add that you need to know how much debt the hospital writes off regularly and that many are treated free because they can't pay.
-If you go to the hospital, there are certain investigations and tests that may bring you back to the hospital,so don't expect that you will complete all treatment in your one day visit.
-You say MOST doctors and nurses have bad manners? You need to pick a dictionary to check the meaning of most again.

- yes the health state of most Nigerians is bad but i believe appropriate attention rather than nagging can help their situation.

-yes the hospital is not a charity organisation but that is not enough reason for the exploitation most hospitals do.

-how cases when go to the hospital (what happened to me, spending a whole monday in a state hospital in osogbo and can't be attended to, reasons being that there is no light, and the hospital can't put on a generator that is not faulty) is it part of the investigation for proper diagnosis too?

- for the word 'most', perhaps I don't have a dictionary, you can help me with one.

- for me being misinformed, I will appreaciate it if you get me properly informed. So we can seize the bull by the horn when we have the opportunity to make Nigeria better.
Thank you.
Health / Maltreatment Of Nigerians By The Medical Profession by jechona(m): 6:36am On Feb 25, 2013
I know some people will be mad at me for creating this thread, but lets face reality here.

In Nigeria, the medical profession seams to be worshiped and given the best considerations and benefits compared to other professions, yet it is the most irresponsible profession in the country.

It might interest you to know that despite all they enjoy;

- about 80% of death cases in the hospitals are caused by the doctors or nurses negligence. (they have a backup, 'we tried out best but we couldn't make it'. I wonder what best they tried).

- there is a saying 'health is better than wealth' but for the medical profession 'wealth is better than health'. So no matter how severe your case is, without money no attention is given to you.

- In the hospital, you pay what ever bill they charge you without prizing, even when you don't know what you are paying for.

- In some cases, especially surgery, after you have paid for most of the items needed before the surgery, they will still accumulate them for you to pay again before you leave the hospital (only some smart and deciplined people are able to detect this with their reciepts).

- You hardly go for anything in the hospital and come back successful the first day, you must keep having dates with the doctor.

- Once its 2pm in the government hospitals, they tell you they are tire that they have been working since mornig (even when there are no patients).

- And the worst of all, most of the doctors and nurses lacks manners. (their mouth alone can kill the patient before the illness)

please feel free to add your own experiences and observations.

Science/Technology / Positive Ideas Youths Can Use In Developing Nigeria by jechona(m): 9:41pm On Jan 11, 2013
My brothers and sisters, it is obviouse that Nigeria is far backward in terms of devlopment, ranging from education, technology, medicine, and many others. But the big question is; Do we fold our hands and watch our country go down? It is also obviouse that our parents (every body in offices) do not wish this country well, this is shown from their corrupt practices and some with opiums that their children are not here and they have enough money to cope with the bad state of the country.
I tell you something my fellow youths of Nigeria, '' If we don't stand up and develope this country, no one will do it for us''.
So how are we going to go about it?
Lets share ideas on what we the youths can move Nigeria forward, perhaps your idea might come in to play when someone you shared it with is previlledged to be in the position to implement it.
To start with myself, I feel;
1. The little we have learnt, lets try to impact them in our younger ones. ( for corpers in schools).
2. Those with innovative minds should not be decieved by our parents that farming is the only way to survive in this coutry, carry on with your works, one day you will have the opportunity to show the world what you are made of.
3. Let us promote counselling amongst ourselve and the younger generations, it helps to focus the minds in the positive direction.
More to come as we share further...
Career / Re: How Can NUC Improve The Quality Of Engineers? by jechona(m): 7:47pm On Jan 11, 2013
KenGali: The first Issue lies in the design of the programme, why should Engineering be 5 yeaRs and is still poor, when every other country studies it for 4.

The second issue lies in the academic staff:
This pervades the whole of the Nigerian academic setting.

Lecturers that are not researching simply regurgitate trash that they do not understand for students. Sometime, they teach theories that are out of date. So Employment of lecturers and their promotion as well as pay should be based on research worth.
To achieve that, universities should be weened off government subventions, they should fund them selves. At least 50 percent of govt funding should be converted to research funds targeting specific developments and to be awarded to researchers who are making reasonable progress in the areas. Universities that want such funds should work on having researchers with such reasonable research prowess to attract those funding.

About a quarter of the current govt. funding for universities should be used by FG to guarantee students loan. And yes school fees will be high, but their will be student loans. Students will also realise the burden of their responsibilities and leave cultism. Also the parochial politicisation of academic activities in schools will vanish, as the Universities will be struggling to meet their financial needs. They will be rather looking for good research and ideas rather than snuffing them out in mediocrity as is currently the case. Also the best Universities will be those that are able to find innovative ways to work and partner with industries.

Last, the idea of individual projects in Engineering should become only complimentary. Real engineering problems cannot be compartmentalised, hence students' project should take an integrated approach involving students of various disciplines and across departments. They should be relevant to industrial needs. Also they should involve both junior and senior students in different roles. Engineering students should participate in design groups right from their freshman years to graduation in different roles. The fifth year currently wasted, should be combined or utilised to let the graduate students return to their schools with an industry relevant project as a requirement for membership of the NSE. Hence at any point in time, school projects will involve a graduated student as industry liaison, some final years for design, some third years for number crunching and constructions, some second years for apparatus setups, monitoring, etc. Some first years as errand boys and girls.

Brother, I sincerely appreaciate your contribution, its a very nice strategy to involve every student in school in a project and will also serve as a source of inspiration to the younger students.
Career / Re: How Can NUC Improve The Quality Of Engineers? by jechona(m): 7:37pm On Jan 11, 2013
donpeluchi: the problem is that government is not investing enough in education. why is it that nigerian students do well abroad but when they are back home they have no passion

My brother is it that the government is not investing enough in education or the little that is invested in education is not properly utilised by our greedy ministry of education staff and university staff?
