CareerRe: How Can NUC Improve The Quality Of Engineers? by jechona(op): 7:47pm On Jan 11, 2013
KenGali: The first Issue lies in the design of the programme, why should Engineering be 5 yeaRs and is still poor, when every other country studies it for 4.

The second issue lies in the academic staff:
This pervades the whole of the Nigerian academic setting.

Lecturers that are not researching simply regurgitate trash that they do not understand for students. Sometime, they teach theories that are out of date. So Employment of lecturers and their promotion as well as pay should be based on research worth.
To achieve that, universities should be weened off government subventions, they should fund them selves. At least 50 percent of govt funding should be converted to research funds targeting specific developments and to be awarded to researchers who are making reasonable progress in the areas. Universities that want such funds should work on having researchers with such reasonable research prowess to attract those funding.

About a quarter of the current govt. funding for universities should be used by FG to guarantee students loan. And yes school fees will be high, but their will be student loans. Students will also realise the burden of their responsibilities and leave cultism. Also the parochial politicisation of academic activities in schools will vanish, as the Universities will be struggling to meet their financial needs. They will be rather looking for good research and ideas rather than snuffing them out in mediocrity as is currently the case. Also the best Universities will be those that are able to find innovative ways to work and partner with industries.

Last, the idea of individual projects in Engineering should become only complimentary. Real engineering problems cannot be compartmentalised, hence students' project should take an integrated approach involving students of various disciplines and across departments. They should be relevant to industrial needs. Also they should involve both junior and senior students in different roles. Engineering students should participate in design groups right from their freshman years to graduation in different roles. The fifth year currently wasted, should be combined or utilised to let the graduate students return to their schools with an industry relevant project as a requirement for membership of the NSE. Hence at any point in time, school projects will involve a graduated student as industry liaison, some final years for design, some third years for number crunching and constructions, some second years for apparatus setups, monitoring, etc. Some first years as errand boys and girls.
Brother, I sincerely appreaciate your contribution, its a very nice strategy to involve every student in school in a project and will also serve as a source of inspiration to the younger students.

donpeluchi: the problem is that government is not investing enough in education. why is it that nigerian students do well abroad but when they are back home they have no passion
My brother is it that the government is not investing enough in education or the little that is invested in education is not properly utilised by our greedy ministry of education staff and university staff?

Its now like nokia ringtone in Nigeria that Nigerian engineering grauduates are paper engineers which is not appealing to the ears of every body except those who's wish is for Nigeria never to develop.
But I think that NUC have a great role to play in solving this problem.
Please can we share are views on what NUC can do to help engineering in Nigeria.
For me, I feel the educational curriculum needs to be reviewed to suit the needs of Nigeria.
CareerRe: Are Technicians Better Than Engineers In Nigeria? by jechona(op): 6:45pm On Jan 09, 2013
Don't forget that in the world today, among the world best engineers, Nigerians are dominating the list, the mistake some people are making is that they rate engineers with things they don't know about, try and find out the duties of an engineer then use them to examine an engineer and see if most of them will disappoint you, we have different duties for engineers, technologists, technicians and artisans.

Emusan: This is a country that we don't value quality engineering work due to our poverty mentality rather believing in crude method/old system that less in cost which make the so called Engineer's not to have confidence in themself by bringing themself low to a level of technician (a lot to say about that), and Nigeria still have a long way to go in terms of technology.
Is there any way out of this?
CareerAre Technicians Better Than Engineers In Nigeria? by jechona(op): 9:33pm On Jan 07, 2013
Guys please I want you to help me analyse my observations and tell me if technicians are better than engineers in Nigeria.

I have observed that theses days, majority of the contracts and small jobs are being given to technicians and rather than engineers. Some people come up with arguements that engineers are expensive, or are not experts, etc. Even in the ministries of works you will find less than a handfull of engineers, the rest are technicains and OND holders occupying positions that are meant for engineers, and as a result of this, most times when we have problems.

Engineers needs to come out and fight for their rights, we can't find any because we don't have the correct people on those seats. This has given birth to engineers suffering from lack of jobs and even those with jobs are being maltreated and underpaid.

Guys, do you know the sucking part of it all?

This evil is being done by older engineers who do not want to upgrade their knowledge and are afraid of loosing their positions to young and vibrant engineers. It now makes the situation look as if we don't have engineers in Nigeria or they are not capable.

Thank you.

Leave pastor alone jor, he did not wake up from the right side of his bed before coming to preach. If not he would have considered the consequences of both situations before coming to preach. Perhaps he has a mission of promoting random divorsing or broken homes. Or maybe he wife is exibiting a character that was hiden to him while they were courting...

If Nigerian mechanics were doctors:
we would have paid them any amount they charge us for our treatment without any arguement. This will help them to buy good and quality tools for their work, their performance will be better.
There will be no excuses like ''sorry, we tried our best but we lost her. OR We only treat but God heals''
and there will be no cause for them to tell us lies or steel from us.
RomanceRe: Things Girls Should Know About Boys by jechona(m): 10:35pm On Jun 12, 2012
What guys wish gals know:

•We are not mind readers and we never will be. Our lack of mind-rea
ding ability is not proof of how little we care about you.

•We are not to be used as pawns in trying to make your girlfriends
jealous.

•“Fine” or “whatever” is not an app
ropriate ending to a conversation.

•If you want sex, just ask. (In case you didn’t already kno
w.)

•Don’t expect guys to say as many sweet things as they do i
n the movies. (It takes a lot of guys to come up with those scripts).

•Only models are able to wear most of the stuff you see in fashion
magazines and shows.

•Sharing your deepest feelings in no way guarantees reciprocity.

•We are all kinky and willing to try anything that you may enjoy, j
ust let us know.

•Every so often no matter whether it is true or not remind us that
we have the biggest P you’ve ever dealt with.

•We are conservationists at heart, water is our biggest love, so sh

•Any harsh contact with the testicles should be assumed a serious i
njury but soft caresses are strongly encouraged.

•Your period should be referred to as Mouth Gig week

•You can’t get mad if we refuse to hook up your “ug
ly friend” with one of our friends.

•For every fart that slips out when you are around we successfully
hold in about 15, enduring excruciating pain to do this.

•Video games have helped us develop such finger skills that should
only encourage us to play more often.

•99.5% of the time we didn’t mean to hurt you.

•Shopping is NOT a sport. And no, we are never going to think of it
that way.

•Crying is blackmail .

•If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like no
thing's wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

•When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine
. Really .

•Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to
discuss such topics as FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, SEX or TENNIS.

•Sometimes we are not thinking of u, so don't expect us to.
- if u don't wnt to quarel, stop search our room for evidence, cos u ll definately find 1.
- The best way to say I love you is 'sex'

FamilyRe: Many Married Men Are Unhappy... by jechona(m): 9:51am On Jun 09, 2012
To be sincere with ourselves, happiness is not about marriage or being single, its about the inner freedom in you. How matured and successful are you? That is the key to happiness, without that, weather you are married or single, one way or the other you will be unhappy.
