gbosaa: But it doesn't stop people going to house to feast and accept his gifts during Christmas period. My brother... where there is money even your worst kins men forgets who or what you are provided you are ready to throw your money around. But then being an OSU and having money at the same time does not stop people from associating with you but when it comes to marriage... Its only the stone minded parents that does not care one bit of what the people will say will extend that hand of relationship to marriage. |

Mekymuo: Biko, name the town or village that is still discriminating against ndiosu?Cos my maternal side surname is OSU from Nanka, Anambra state. And they have never been discriminated anywhere in Nigeria. I don't know where you people get this nonsense from... When I mean discrimination it does not mean people do not associate with them but that the friendship hardly gets to marriage. Well Nanka people according to what I know don't discriminate the OSU, they associate with them and marry them as well but from my town Isuofia precisely, they do not marry an OSU. It's very rare to see that. Meanwhile, since your maternal side is Nanka, Isuofia is not far from there... You can make your enquiries.. |

OdenigboAroli: Its possible, some people know what it is and know it exists but never seen one. In my town we are neighbor to them. They have beautiful girls and many people date them and would like to marry them but because of what people will say and the stigma that comes with it.
Before they never used to take ozo title but now they do everything with everybody except marriage. I have some of them as friends and we are like brother...eat and drink with them, too but marriage is still a problem. Yes, the OSU people now form there own group, the do almost what the other people do including taking the ozo title.. You can associate with them like you said but the marriage issue remains a problem. |

patostation: It's all hypocricy. Let me use my town as an example. There, the so-called 'Osu' are responsible for the major developmental projects. God has always blessed the Osu more in every village. When they bring their money, the 'nwadiala' accepts it without discrimination. Many 'nwadiala' are involved in sexual relationships with the 'osu'. Even the 'osus' participate in social events and sports. But when it comes to marriage, you are on your own. Nobody wants to marry an 'osu'. Even when the couple wishes to marry, the 'nwadiala' kinsmen will make sure it does not happen. Is that not hypocricy? Call it hypocrisy... Or any thing you want, the practice still holds. Anyone can date an OSU knowingly or unknowingly. But when it comes to marriage.... That is when your kins men will remind you of the persons background. |

adeitoro: Nne, you can lie I swear.
How haven't you seen an OSU before but the practice is still very much alive in your town.
To the topic, Osu caste system is dead in virtually all part of Igboland.
I grew up in the East, but uptill now I am yet to see an Osu.
Infact considering the discrimination meted to them favoured them, which turn most of them according to history as the Economic, Academic and Political gaints in Igboland. I have not seen an OSU, I have not come in contact with any I still maintain that, but what I know is that the practice still holds. believe it or not. |

Arysexy: Which part if igboland is ur osu practiced?
In my part. It is a crime to call one paid. it has been eradicated. Infact the Catholic church will sanction any parent that deny their children marriage over osu issue.
The church has done a lot in that regards, today people proudly bears Nwosu surname ie child of osu. You don't need to call them OSU but the discrimination is already there. When their sons are not allowed to marry the free born daughters or vice versa, what do u call that. Like I said earlier OSU was abolished long time ago, but believe me the practice which is the discrimination is still there. What people fear is not the fear of associating with them but the fear of what people will say when they too will be seen as an OSU because It's believed that once you associate with them, you have practically become an OSU. In my part. It is a crime to call one paid. it has been eradicated. Infact the Catholic church will sanction any parent that deny their children marriage over osu issue. this is my first time of hearing this, and I don't think it's proper because no church or religion has the right to dictate to a parents where the sons or daughters will marry from. Marriage is a choice and a decision from both family. They must accept each others flaws if not there is no marriage. Catholic Church or not some parents still forbid their children from marrying an OSU. |

ElekeNtioba: Osu caste system is a dying if not already-dead culture.
99% of present-day Igbo youths only heard abt it in social studies class. They have never seen an 'osu' person or the discrimination in practise. Dying culture... Yes, but not dying really. Dead Culture... Not at all. it's still pretty much alive in some part of Igbo Land. I have not seen OSU before, but the practice and discrimination is still very much alive in my t :own... |

0b1nna: Not necessarily getting in contact with them but marrying them. Two childhood friends of mine were forced apart a few days to their traditional marriage for the same reason by their uncles and kindred (frankly, I never knew the girl was of Osu decent). No matter how much they tell you it's been abolished, parents still regard it. None of your kinsmen will follow you to your inlaws place if they realise your inlaws belong to the osu caste, unless you're one as well. The discrimination is too much especially when it comes to the issues of marriage. I wish something will be done to change such situations. Because the victims lives with the stigma of rejection all through their life. It's disheartening to be in a relationship for years only to realise that the guy or the girl is an OSU when it's time to take the relationship to another level. |

We must not and cannot turn back time. That is doom.
Wr must work for a better future and right the wrongs committed in the past. Yes.. We can't turn back the hands of time or change the situation of thing.. But the OSU CAST system has been abolished a very long time ago... But now it's as if the system just started especially in my town. Hmmmmmm... So am wondering how we will RIGHT the WRONGS that was committed in the past |

PAGAN9JA: There you go. I believe herein lies the reason for the discrimination.
I blame the early missionaries and church for systematically branding anything associated with the shrines and old religion as evil, satanic and untouchable. early missionaries... That's where the problem started. I wish we can turn back the hands of time. |

Seriously, something has to be done. Although they told us that it has been abolished long time ago but then the practice and the discrimination is still there.
Yes, it has been abolished but the fear of associating with them and the fear of what people will say, I believe is the reason why people still avoid getting in contact with them. |
