Alternative Uses for Breastmilk
Alternative uses for breastmilk? There are many alternative and unusual ways to use breastmilk although not everyone knows it! Aside from just
breastfeeding your baby with it, because breastmilk is sterile and has antibacterial, antiseptic and healing properties, it can be used in a variety of ways.
Here are a few of Breastfeeding Mums favourites. (Please note, you should always consult your gp if you are concerned about your own or your baby's health and these alternatives are listed just for information and in no way replace medical advice!)
Breastmilk can be used to treat:
Pink Eye/ Conjunctivitis - Drip a few drops of
expressed breastmilk into the affected eyes. This often cures the condition within a very short time and can sometimes mean antibiotic eye drops can be avoided. (Of course, seek advice from your gp if the eyes don't begin to clear up with a day or so.)
Nappy Rash - Using a cotton pad soaked in expressed breastmilk, pat the affected area and allow to dry before replacing the baby's nappy.
Blocked Nose - If your baby has dried, hard mucus in his/ her nose it can make breastfeeding difficult as the baby's breathing is affected. Either drip one or two drops into the baby's nose from a little nasal dropper or from a cotton wool ball soaked in breastmilk. It is best to do this whilst the baby is feeding as he or she will inhale the milk. Only do one nostril at a time and don't put more than a drop or two of milk into the nostril or the baby will choke. After inhaling the breastmilk the baby often sneezes the softened and moistened mucus out and the nose should be clear again!
Spots - Dab a little breastmilk on your own spots and allow to dry before applying makeup. Best done at night after washing and drying your face/ body.
Cracked/ Sore Nipples - Breastfeeding mothers sometimes complain about sore or cracked nipples in the early days of breastfeeding. Very often this is caused by the baby being
incorrectly positioned on the breast and once the position is corrected the problem no longer exists. However, in the meantime, after each breastfeed gently express a little breastmilk and smooth it around the sore area. Let it dry before replacing your nursing pad or bra. Doing this after every breastfeed is often an effective treatment and replaces the need for nipple creams!
Chapped Lips - If you are suffering from dry, chapped lips gently rub a little breastmilk on them several times a day and before too long your lips will be soft and luscious once again!
Sore Throats/ Mouth Ulcers - If your baby has a sore throat, breastmilk will help get rid of the problem. For older children who are no longer breastfeeding, you can express some breastmilk into a cup and let them drink it until the problem clears up.
Scratches and Burns - Breastmilk can aid the healing process and provide some relief from the discomfort of burns and scratches. It is particularly effective when applied to the little scratches newborn babies sometimes cause to themselves with their little sharp papery nails! Apply it carefully using a cotton pad and allow to dry. Reapply regularly.
Cleanser - Believe it or not breastmilk can be used as a cleanser and can even remove stubborn make-up! Just dip a cotton pad in some expressed breastmilk and wipe it over your face.
Eczema/ Skin Rashes - Breastmilk can help bring some relief from conditions such as eczema and can also alleviate itching that accompanies urticaria (hives) and chickenpox.
Ear Infections - If your baby or child has a suspected ear infection, dripping some breastmilk into the ear can help to aid the healing process. If the pain is severe you should see a doctor as you may need to use an antibiotic but breastmilk will help to start things off.
Insect Bites - Rub some breastmilk into the area and allow to dry. It will help stop any itching and also provide antiseptic protection.
Contact Lens Solution - Because it is sterile, breastmilk can be used to cleanse dry contact lenses in an emergency.
Donation - Breastmilk can save premature babies' lives. It is much easier for them to digest than formula and it also gives them the immunity boost they so desperately need.

Thanks.my baby is not a cereal fan so we try out different brand for flavor.she doesnt have sweet tooth.she hates banana, sweetpotatoes. Her best fruits r avacado, agbalumo and orange.the gehl is so local.hehehehe.

So i read labels.any cereal with sugar u can be rest assured she wont take it.so the cereals r just manily one dish per day.so she takes gerber today, cow n gate tomorrow, cerelac d next like dt.

For her creche pack.
The cereal is normally the first. Then mashed irish potato n egg yolk .next. Den pap.then avacado for snack.then d grinded brown rice from august secrets.i normally make it with. Little palmoil, crayfish, ish and ginger.
U can buy brown rice n grind ursef with ur drymill blender.

So i switch it up.sometimes i make mashed noodles or spaghetti. Or yam.
She likes rice n ofeakwu too.thats banga.and coconut rice.
I normally make her own sauce.tomatoes, titus, scentleaf, ginger, garlic, carrot, greenpepper, pepper, salt, spring onions, crayfish salt.all grinded together.and fried in sunfloweroil.which wat we use at home.
So when i make her noodles or spaghetti or yam.i jus remove some n put ontop and mash mash.food is ready.

After creche.she suck breast.join us to eat what ever we r eating for dinner.
Bed time.suck breast all tru the night.

Following morning routine continues.hehehehe.

Dexterush so for the loss of that child. Very sad when it can be preventable.

I will put a question to mamas and papas here generally, please answer with the first thing that comes to your head... no googling, dont ask anyone around you. There is no right or wrong answer. Shouting "blood of Jesus" is an ok answer to put as well.

Assuming you are alone and a baby is choking, what do you do, also assuming no one is there to help?

Now that we are one.... ( yippeee!!!) I have brought out the Nido milk. And sippe cup. I have given myself one month to phase out all feeding bottles.

You can mash or puree almost anything. You can start with sweet potato before you introduce irish potato and yam.

Let me give you a list of some of my tried and tested menus..... yes i kept a record of our meals and combinations. And will keep the book like a treasure. .

●beans and ripe plantain pottage ( no oil, and pass through a wire mesh sieve with a spoon to remove the skins)
●Avocado and egg yolk
●Yam and fish with small butter ( with spinach and/or garden egg as an option)
●Ripe plantain and fish/meat/poultry
●Pureed mango, banana or other fruit.( either plain or with baby rice to add bulk)
●amala with blended okra soup with fish
●sweet corn, beetroot and chicken
● yam pottage ( remove before adding oil and pepper and maggi)
● Beans and sweet potato.
●carrot, sweet corn and cabbage purree wih small knob of butter.
● Pasta with mince meat sauce ( or stew with meat- blend afterwards just omit pepper and spices.- you can make her own stew/ sauce seperately and combine with "soggy rice or pasta. ) i also find mixing pasta and rice with maybe carrot/sweet corn/other veggie puree help with not making it too tomato-ey.

Note: You may need to add some water while pureeing or blending to get the right texture. If it is too dry, your dd is likely to refuse it.

Dont be scared of adding too much water... if it turns out too watery, add a bit of baby rice or boiled irish potato to thicken it back up. It wont change the taste.

So dearie, there is more to weaning than frisco gold and pap!
Good luck.

Saved! :-)

OK. I just got over it this Sunday. it infected my baby first then the house.
What I use for baby. I dap warm water on cotton wool to clean ds and a drop of breast milk by the cornea now and then.
As for the adults, we went further to use potato overnight. just place it on the affected eye and sleep. when you wake up in the middle of the night, cut another and place. Magic. the swelling will be gone and eye cleared.

Seriously?!! Potatoes?!? And am just consuming it as a breakfast.. Thanks ooo
