Baxter names first Bafana squad Stuart Baxter has named his first Bafana Bafana squad since returning to the hotseat for a 2019 African Nations Cup qualifier with Nigeria in Uyo next month. The match will start at 18h00 (SA time) at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on June 10. Baxter has notably handed recalls to striker Tokelo Rantie and KICK OFF Magazine cover star Bongani Zungu , who is impressing in Portugal for Vitoria Guimaraes. Cape Town City talisman Lebogang Manyama is joined by clubmate Aubrey Ngoma in the national team set-up for the first time, while Thulani Serero misses out due to inactivity for Ajax Amsterdam. Newly crowned champions Bidvest Wits are represented by goalkeeper Darren Keet and defenders Thulani Hlatshwayo and Sifiso Hlanti. "I am quite pleased with the squad we have assembled. We have a small element of development with a couple of young players. We also have some players who are returning to the squad, the likes of Zungu and Rantie," said Baxter, who is yet to finalise his technical team and appoint a captain. "We have players who have been outstanding in the PSL the whole season, we also have continuity with a number of players that SAFA has invested much time in and we have them in the team. I believe we have a good mix. "We have also looked at aerial strength and tried to spread that well throughout the team, it means if we can have good preparation before we go, then we have a squad that is capable of giving Nigeria a good game." Baxter is juggling responsibilities as he will continue coaching SuperSport United until the end of the domestic season, which culminates with Matsatsantsa's Nedbank Cup title defence against Orlando Pirates in the final on June 24. The Brit was appointed by SAFA earlier this month on a five-year deal following the sacking of Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba in December last year. The ex-Kaizer Chiefs boss previously steered Bafana from May 2004 to November 2005, recording 10 wins from 23 matches before being fired after South Africa missed out on the 2006 World Cup. Bafana squad: Goalkeepers: Khune, Williams, Keet. Defenders: Mphahlele, Coetzee, Hlatshwayo, Mathoho, Gordinho, Mobara, Langerman, Hlanti. Midfielders: Kekana, Dolly, Jali, Mokotjo, Furman, T. Zwane, Zungu, Ngoma. Strikers: Vilakazi, Tau, Manyama, Rantie, Gabuza, Erasmus. http://www.kickoff.com/mobile/news/75594/stuart-baxter-names-first-bafana-squad-since-returning-to-hotseat-for-afcon-qualifier-with-nigeria |

The Presidency has reacted to the news report of Military coup brewing up in the country. Femi Adesina while reacting to question on the coup said the Military has spoken on the matter and no need to stretch on the issue. He stated this during a media briefing by the three Presidential spokespersons at the State house, Abuja on Tuesday He said: "The military had spoken on the issues "We do not need to stretch beyond the army's statement. "They said it is a routine warning, necessary in military operations". Related: Tinubu Warns Nigerian Military Against Coup Recall that APC chieftain, Bola Tinubu on Monday said Lagos state will resist any military attempt in the country. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army have begun an internal search for soldiers and officers suspected to be engaging in political meetings, a top military source recently told PUNCH. The source said that some arrests may have been made, but that the information was being kept as top secret so as not to add to the public tension. https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/presidency-reacts-to-military-coup-rumours.239110/ |
the last paragraph of this news sum up everything that need to be done in the south. re-orientation, providing employment and sense of belonging will reduce and if possible end all this nonsense. |

he's just 21, yet moses 'Daddy' simon has become something like a wonder player in Belgian Pro League club KAA Gent and a regular in Nigeria Super Eagles. Arriving Gent only two seasons ago, the pocket dynamite has conquered the hearts of Buffalo fans. Simon has scored 13 times in a remarkable 71 games, the steady player in the heart of Genk, almost elusive to defenders while stealing away into the box to score. Simon will not forget his hat trick against Lokeren in his third league game, after which he was named Belgian league player of the week. He quickly became a key player in coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s formation and helped Genk win their first ever national Championship title in May 2015. Two months later, Simon assisted in winning the 2015 Belgian Super Cup against cup winners Club Brugge. Simon is modest and deeply religious. He enjoys a close relationship with his father, who gives him the nickname, Daddy, something that has stuck on him in Belgium and among his teeming fans. ‘Daddy’ is my pet name. My father always calls me like that. In fact, he still does. I love my father. That’s why I always put ‘daddy’ between my first and last name. Sometimes my mother also calls me daddy, but actually my father is fond of calling me by that name. As for Moses, I think my parents just fell for that name as a biblical figure……..I read the Bible constantly in my room. In all I do, I put God in the first place. I also talk about God in interviews: to glorify his name. I always pray to God because I believe in Him. In all I do, I seek His blessing. I trust Him and call His name. He is everything for me. Sometimes, Nana Asare and I talk religion because he is also a Christian. We share thoughts because you cannot know everything about the Bible. We also pray in our free time before or after the training.’ Simon speaks more about life in Belgium, offers from other notable clubs and the Super Eagles. He spoke with Taiwo Alimi. Excerpts: Beginning When I was 8 years old, I fell in love with the game. It brings joy to me. Becoming a footballer has always been my dream. I followed all major players on TV. First I played street football, like so many African boys with boyfriends and my brother. Sometimes it happened that I don’t even remember to eat nor get hungry when I am playing football. I began playing competitive football at school, when I was 9 or 10 years old, and got noticed by the Golden Boot Soccer Academy, who took my brother and me in. They believed in me and helped me achieved professional skill. My trainers told me I had qualities, but I had to believe in myself and my skills. My brother is still playing in the Academy. And who is the best among the two of you? (Laugh) I can say I’m the best. But he can’t say that too. God knows who the best is. Who is your role model? My role model while horning my skill at the Academy was Ronaldinho. I followed him on TV and became a big fan of his. He was my hero. I also like the style of Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ronaldinho remains my hero of all time. How did you get your nickname ‘Daddy’? ‘Daddy’ is my pet name. My father always calls me like that. In fact, he still does. I love my father. That’s why I always put ‘daddy’ between my first and last name. Sometimes my mother also calls me daddy, but actually my father is fond of calling me by that name. As for Moses, I think my parents just fell for that name as a biblical figure. Are you religious? “Yes! I read the Bible constantly in my room. We also pray in our free time before or after the training. How is life in Belgium? Life in Belgium is good. I’m glad I’m here. In my spare time I go out with some of my teammates for drink and sightseeing, no alcohol, a coke or so for me. I don’t take alcohol because my religion forbids it and I am happy about it. Though I miss Nigeria, I’m comfortable here and I’ve had time to go to Nigeria. On average, I go to my country three to four times a year. And my families have come and go too. They love it here too and they want me to settle here and stay in Belgium. What about offers from other clubs? My intention is to stay in Belgium, but only God really knows my next move. Maybe I’ll leave the club, maybe I’ll stay here for twenty years. Imagine: A big club comes with a lot of money. But I get injured and the transfer will not go on. That’s why I say it’s God that will determine where I will go. It is believed that Nigeria chances to World Cup 2018 are bright? Nigeria are four points ahead of Cameroon that alone should give me confident about our chances of making it to the World Cup, but we have games to go before the qualifiers comes to an end, so we have to stay focus and not give other team the chance to put us under pressure or catch us. What is the secret behind Eagles good form under Gernot Rohr I can’t really say but I believe we are stronger as a unit now and more experienced. Even the senior players we have in the team have also played a part. You see most of us in the team have played together at various youth level for Nigeria in the past as well, that has also helped cohesion both on and off the pitch. http://thenationonlineng.net/father-calls-daddy-moses-simon/ |

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by its Chief of Administration, I. M. Alkali, a Major-General. An earlier statement in January by Army spokesman, Sani Usman, a Brigadier-General, had disclosed that the screening initially scheduled to hold from January 22 to 3 February 2017 had been postponed due to the activities of fraudsters demanding money from applicants. The statement reads: “The Nigerian Army wishes to announce to the general public that 76 Regular Recruits Intake Zonal Screening Exercise earlier postponed will now hold from 27 May- 9 June 2017,” Mr. Alkali said in the new statement He said successful candidates from the pre- screening examination are to attend the zonal screening at the designated zonal centres for their respective states. “Candidates are advised to come along with a pair of white vest, a pair of blue short, white canvas, white socks, original/photocopy of credentials, four passport photographs, two full size post card photographs and writing materials”. “Note that candidates selected after the zonal screening exercise will commence training immediately at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria,” he added https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/nigerian-army-picks-date-for-regular-recruit-intake-screening.238955/ lalasticlala mydd |
