Irate youths of Elugwu Ettam Community in Okpuitumo Ikwo Local government area of Ebonyi state at the weekend set ablaze the country home of Celestine Okah.

Okah is the husband of Ebonyi Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Wendy Uchechi Okah.

According to a source, the incident happened on Saturday.

The source said Okah was accused of involvement in some crimes in the community, which he vehemently denied.

His denials did not stop his summoning by the community’s village head who ordered him to swear an oath to prove his innocence in keeping with the customs and traditions of the community.

But, Okah, it was gathered, refused to swear to the oath.

He instead resorted to calling the attention of the Police.

His refusal and involvement of the Police infuriated the youths around who pounced on him before moving to the location of his house where they vandalised and set the property ablaze.

Not done, the youths proceeded to burn another building belonging to another member of the community whose child is named after the Commissioner

By the time the Police got to the scene, the destruction had been carried out. But they succeeded in rescuing Okah and whisked him out of the area.

The community, it was learnt, warned the Police to take Okah out of the community, warning him not to enter the community again.

Police Spokesman, Loveth Odah confirmed the incident.

She said the Police was able to rescue the victim.

Mrs. Odah noted that when the Police went back on Sunday, the Community dug a deep trench to prevent them from accessing the community.

She noted that the Police was able to restore order in the area and have warned the community to toe the line of peace to settle whatever dispute they may have with the victim.

The victim whereabout could not be ascertained at press time. Calls to his Phone lines were not answered.

His wife and Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mrs Uchechi Wendy Okah, refused to react on the issue when our reporter called her on phone.

“I don’t want to make any comment for now,” said the Commissioner in an emotion- laden voice.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Stanley Okoro Emegha wondered why the community would take the laws into their hands.

He said the State Government has waded into the matter with a view to amicably settling the matter.

Umahi unbans the use of Okada, relaxed curfew.

Cheering news was today released by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State as he lifted the ban on Okada in the state even as he relaxed curfew inline with the Federal Government of 8pm-6am.

This is even as a cross section of residents applauded the governor for his show of empathy for the people.

In his weekly media chat today, the governor assured that he has not rested on his oars on the war against the covid-19 pandemic insisting "our Isolation Centre is world class, it is the best in the entire Southeastern zone of the country.
"We have reviewed the curfew inline with the Federal Government from 8pm to 6am,
"We have lifted the ban on the use of motorcycle in the state, but still effective in the border areas.
"From 300 meters radius before the border areas, no motorcycle and other means of human transportation,

"Very soon we will start the distribution of palliatives to our people,
"We have shared over 90,000 facemasks and sanitisers to our people".
Umahi also used the briefing to release some pastors earlier arrested.

"I have ordered release of the two pastors arrested by the Anti-Corona Virus team".

Meanwhile residents, Mrs. Nkechinyere Onele, Cletus Ofoke have lauded directives, restating "I must sincerely commend the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr Chief Dr David Nweze Umahi for listening to the cries of the people" says Onele.
On his part, Ofoke stated " this is good, he is following the foot steps of President Buhari, he is a good man".

*COVID-19: AN INDEX CASE RECORDED IN EBONYI STATE.*

The first COVID 19 index case is a 31 year old man from Ukawu in Onicha Local Government area of ebonyi state. He rode’s a hired purchase business with his sienna vehicle which he uses to carry food items to ore in ondo state.

Usually after selling his food items, he use his vehicle to carry passengers back to south East. He has made two journeys this year, one on 29th of March and returned to ebonyi on 1st of April and second one at about 12th Of April. While in ore, he couldn’t get passengers to bring back to south east and he had to wait for sometimes in ore, sleeping in motor parks and filling stations.

And when he could not, and he started making his way back to south east. On his way, he saw 3 ebonyians that was speaking ebonyi language and he had to stop and they told him that they were going back to ebonyi state but they were stranded.

They called the parents and the parents agreed that he should bring them back that they will pay him while in Ebenyi state. He picked the 3 ebonyians together with himself and they started coming back. And that was about 15th of April Till about the 24th of April when they got to the boarder of Ebonyi State.

From his account, they were sleeping in the filling stations, and parks while also making their way back to Ebonyi State. He wrangle his way through the boarder, passed through IVO LG and pads through Afikpo North LG and to Okposi In Ohaozara LGA in Ebonyi State when the chairman of the LG and his team caught him.

First, they drag them to Okposi Police post and then because of our policy, our policy in the state is that when any Ebonyi man had gotten to the boarder, there is nothing you will do that he will not get into the state.

So the police station in Okposi and some Neighborhood Watch now took him to the stadium where the medical team, and some security agencies are and other returnees and a test was conducted on him and it’s came POSITIVE and the 3 others came NEGATIVE.

When I was told last night, I directed that they should repeat the test this morning on the other 3 passengers that he carried and they came NEGATIVE and so we have Isolated him.

Ebonyians has nothing to fear because this young man that tested POSITIVE did not make any other contact with anybody but for avoidance of doubt any body who made any contact with him should report to the stadium at the capital city so that he/she will be tested.
