Hello Nairalanders,
I am a recent Geography graduate from the University of Ibadan (Second Class Upper) and I just completed my NYSC at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in Ibadan. I am currently targeting a funded thesis-based master's degree in Canada for Fall 2027, specifically in the area of environmental governance and sustainable development.
I have already identified some programs and schools I am interested in, including McGill University, University of Waterloo, Western University, Queen's University, and University of Ottawa. I am also currently applying for the McCall MacBain Scholarship at McGill.
I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through the Canadian graduate school process, especially:
1. How did you find and secure a supervisor? Did you cold email professors and did it work? 2. How long did your study permit take to process as a Nigerian applicant? 3. Any tips on writing a strong statement of purpose or personal statement? 4. Is there anything you wish you had known before applying or arriving in Canada? 5. Any experience with the McCall MacBain Scholarship specifically?
Any advice at all — about applications, funding, life in Canada, or anything in between — would be genuinely appreciated.
Thank you. |

Abduleeda1: Your discharge certificate is a requirement at the AC, didn’t hear of anyone who went without it, although I think you could also take your call-up letter (what I applied with in 2022) if you’re not done, but I’m certain they won’t offer you employment without NYSC discharge certificate.
Although sha, one of my guys didn’t make it to the AC, when asked, he got a feedback that they’d be done before he finished serving (which was around November 2023) they resumed September. He said he was sure he passed the assessment, so he probed further and got that feedback. My PoP should be around june, let’s see if i get the mail. |

Abduleeda1: Not really, you just have to be eligible, given the campaign requirements.
At the advertisement of the last, I was 6 months into service (NYSC) and I was 22 at the time, I didn’t apply until after the career fair when they mentioned that those still serving can apply but they should’ve finished before the end of the process, I finished service a week to my AC or so, hence I’m eligible to apply for this as I’ve got an NYSC not earlier than 2021 and I’m 25, not that age is a requirement sha, but yeah, that’s it.
I’ll drop my experience when there’s feedback for the next stage, so I can either vomit all information (if I don’t make it) or withhold certain details to maintain a competitive edge (if I make it), I hope you understand that though, information is power.🙃 Good morning, do we have to complete service before Ac? |

machote: No matter what don't even think about it. A lot of people struggled with this during their university days so you're not alone. Never mix pleasure with business and in the same way never mix pleasure with close academic colleagues.
LET'S DO AN EXPERIMENT: Let's say you want to "hit it" and move on with your academic life(no strings attached and what not)
BEST CASE SCENARIO: You act on the green lights and fvck her later, but the fact is you still don't want to do the "girlfriend-boyfriend" stuff. Guess what, you'll keep seeing her day by day and the whole thing will become awkward because you don't feel the same about her.
WORST CASE SCENARIO: You try to act on those greenlights and she rejects you or better yet she gives you a chance (maybe to get a free meal or something) but when "sex time" comes she rejects you. Guess what, you'll keep having to see each other almost everyday because you're coursemates, and the whole thing will even become more awkward.
In both scenarios, YOU ARE FVCKED!.
This experiment can also be applied to workplaces. It's never a good idea.
Even as FWB can be tricky. Hope this will help. Well said ... it will be next to impossible maintaining frame with someone you see everyday.... like you rightfully said, either ways I'm fvcked |

The way we avoid mixing pleasure with work i.e avoiding relationship with female colleagues...is that the same way we should avoid anything sexual related with a female course mate? A female course mate has been giving me the greenlight and I want to make her my FWB Should I go ahead? |
Romance › Re: I Simped Smh by Jimmy17(m): 10:14pm On Nov 07, 2021 |
Martinez39s: Thinking that a girl is different, or your relationship is going to be different, is a grave mistake. You are lucky you aren't in a western country, and you didn't get married with that girl over there because of your fooliśh thinking. It would have cost you your peace of mind, half your assets/cash, your house, your kids (their mother will get sole custody), alimony, ridiculous amounts in child support, etc. Many western men, even African men, are regretting this mistake of yours.
Go and sin no more. Here are MY iron rules to prevent this nonsense: [1] Women are not worth relationship, marriage and being pedestalised. [2] Never involve your emotions when dealing with women. Stay logical, not emotional. Women are emotional and are very manipulative; as emotional folks, they will read emotions into everything you say or do even if you didn't say or do them out of emotions. As manipulators, they manipulate your emotions to achieve their aims over you. [3] Never makes friends with a woman. Be cold. You may be on amiable speaking terms with them but never make friends with them. Reserve friendship for your fellow men. [4] Still on (3), associate with women based on their usefulness to you or necessity. If they are not useful to you in terms of sex, business, or academics, let there be no association between you and them. [5] Never ever in your life commit yourself (your heart) to any woman. [6] One way you know steep red pill men is the nature of their cash flow. Never give a girl money no matter how bad or urgent her situation is if she hasn't given up something of equal or greater value in return (I am not talking about getting sex for money. Pùssy is worth $0.00. Only foolish men pay for the pùssy someone is getting for free. Value your money). Never give her money hoping she will pay back. Don't even do the nonsense of "it's just a gift," "I can afford it, it's nothing," "it's just once in while and I choose to do it," etc. Please have sense by fire. [7] Speak to females like you speak to a cop: never say more than necessary. Don't tell them your vulnerabilities, past trauma, secrets, business plans, or your true bank account balance. Anything you say will be used against you someday when it benefits her or when you people have a misunderstanding, even if the information you gave has nothing to do with the misunderstanding. Don't follow the naive folks to emotionally open up to a woman even if she tells you to, not only will she use it against you, she will see you as weak and lose whatever attraction she had for you. [8] All women are like that. You know what I mean. Female nature is universal and there is no woman that is different. Ignore this and reap premium tears.
I don say my own. I could add many but these will help you for now. Bro can you add more to this? |
