PoliticsOsun PDP Showers Encomium On Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke by Jimsonjaat86(op): 12:19pm On May 13, 2024
Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has said that the traditional title being conferred on His Excellency, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke by His Royal Majesty, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, Laminisa 1, the Timi of Ede is home front validation of leadership prowess of the Governor buoyed by his open heartedness.

The PDP also acknowledged the overwhelming support the governor has received around the world on what the state PDP Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi described as a lifetime birthday gift, as further prove of unprecedented popularity of Governor Ademola Adeleke among well meaning Nigerians, home and abroad.

It should be noted that as part of activities marking the 64th birthday anniversary of Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Ede traditional council in a no objection resolution, conferred on His Excellency, the title of ASIWAJU OF EDE LAND. The title being the highest traditional honor often reserved for men of implacable standing in the history packed community.

The traditional honor was last bestowed on the elder brother of the governor, late Asiwaju Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke. He was himself a former Governor and the first democratically elected chief executive of the state.

The PDP described Governor Ademola Adeleke as an extraordinary gift to humanity, whose friendly carriage is loud enough to inspire the world into simplicity in the divine art of greatness.

"ASIWAJU Ademola Adeleke has become a goldfish with no place to hide and we are glad His Excellency is living this naturally ahead of time"

"It is one thing to be blessed with natural regalia of leadership, it is another thing to be conscious of the calling. It is also another thing to choose what to do with such rare gift in the competing world of egocentrism. We are happy Mr Governor appreciates the divine blessings in his life.

We are indeed proud on this day, to be called by the name of our great leader, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. The world is blessed to have you and we are also part of that world"

We once again congratulate our people in Ede, especially the traditional council headed by Kabiyesi, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal for honoring a prophet in his own land.

We align ourselves with everyone who accepts the fact that great men should be called great in their life time and should also be honored as such.

On behalf of the State Working Committee of the PDP, we congratulate His Excellency on this historic attainment just as we wish him a memorable birthday.

Signed
Hon Sunday Bisi
Osun State PDP Chairman

PoliticsOsun LG Chairman Reacts To Allegation Of Selling Solar Poles Installed by Jimsonjaat86(op): 9:52am On May 13, 2024
Allegations of Solar Pole Sale in Ifedayo Local Government Refuted by Caretaker Chairman

The Ifedayo local government has been embroiled in controversy following allegations from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.

The claims suggest that the Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Kayode Atolagbe, and some members of his administration orchestrated the sale of solar light poles originally installed by the former Senator, Ajibola Basiru, representing Osun Central Senatorial District.

Responding to these accusations, Hon. Atolagbe addressed the matter with a detailed rebuttal, denouncing the claims as baseless propaganda aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the local government administration. He clarified that the installation of solar lights in Ifedayo was part of their ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure the welfare of residents.

According to Hon. Atolagbe, the decision to remove some existing solar poles, particularly in Ora-Igbomina, was prompted by concerns raised by installation contractors regarding their structural integrity. He emphasized that the intention was solely to repair and reinstall these poles for the safety and benefit of the community.

Expressing dismay at the APC's allegations, Hon. Atolagbe highlighted the transparent and responsive nature of their governance, noting that such unfounded claims only serve to distract from their developmental agenda. He reassured the people of Ifedayo of their commitment to serving their needs and invited them to engage with the administration for clarification or suggestions.

In conclusion, Hon. Atolagbe urged residents not to be swayed by hearsay and affirmed the administration's dedication to delivering tangible progress through people-oriented initiatives. The statement, signed by the Caretaker Chairman, underscored the local government's unwavering focus on uplifting the welfare of its constituents amidst political turbulence.

THE FULL PRESS STATEMENT IS REPRODUCED BELOW

Re: Investigate Uprooting, Selling Of Senator Basiru's 32 Solar Poles By Ifedayo PDP LG Caretaker Chair In Ora-Igbomina

The attention of the Caretaker Chairman of Ifedayo local government, Hon. Kayode Atolagbe has been drawn to a conjecture written by the opposition APC in Osun State, claiming that the Chairman and some of his members sold solar light installed by the defeated Ajibola Basiru, former Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District.

As a well constituted and focused government, we would have ignored the lies and propaganda by the depleted APC, but to put the record in a right perspective and dispel their lies, hence our reply. Though we are aware that telling lies is their stock in trade.

As part of our agenda to bring succor to our people at the grassroot, we plan to install solar light in every look and cranny of Ifedayo local government and it has commenced. Few weeks ago, we started from Ora-Igbomina, as we plan to move to other towns in the local government.

Yes, we have some existing ones which were installed during the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Fortunately, while our own installation was going on, the installers noticed that the old ones are already weak, while some are shaking and they called our attention to it. The installer said if nothing is done to repair them, with just one heavy rain or windstorm, it may cause a great casualty and accident.

Immediately this was brought to my notice, as a responsive government, I asked people to remove them for repair and to reinstall them back for the usage of our people.

Surprisingly, we just saw it on social media by the APC urchins saying we have removed and sold solar light installed by Basiru. It's laughable that Osun APC could stoop so low to tell the public that a responsible government sold solar lights. The only two solar lights installed by Basiru are still standing, though they are not working again.

When the story was brought to my notice, i Immediately ordered the person who is to repair them to bring them back to Ora-Igbomina police station for safety, because we know what the APC members can do if proper security is not provided for the solar light.

Though, I am aware that the Osun APC members are dazed with the unprecedented development being experienced under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, hence they have nothing to say than to result into blackmailing and spin lies all around.

Unfortunately, the people of Osun cannot fall for their antics because they are already enjoying a new lease of life under the current administration in the state.

We want to assure our people in Ifedayo local government that we shall continue to attend to their needs through our people's oriented programmes and projects. Also, they should not listen to earsay, the doors of our office are open for clarification or suggestions. They are free to come to me anytime.

Signed
Hon. Kayode Atolagbe,
Caretaker Chairman, Ifedayo Local Government,
Osun State.

Nairaland GeneralInterview: One On One With Qs (alhaji) Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode MOK by Jimsonjaat86(op): 4:29pm On May 10, 2024
Alhaji Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode better known by his sobriquet “MOK” is the founder of MOK Foundation and principal partner at Luxiar Construction Limited. MOK is a philanthropist whose kindness has become a moving train in Kwara State, in this interview with Itan Ayobami, he chronicled his journey of life, background, mission, and vision of the MOK Foundation.

Good morning sir, can we meet you?

My name is Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, the founder of the Mok Foundation and principal partner at Luxiar Construction Limited.

What motivated you to establish the MOK Foundation?

What prompted me is that I felt I needed to give back to society, I have seen a lot while growing up in the community because there are things that need to be done to enhance government intervention, I believe that it's very okay for us to give back to the society regardless of where we are and what God has given to us, so to that when I realized that I have one or two things to give back to the society and the community at large, I was able to create a foundation where I need to cover the whole sector, for instance, we have done empowerment, sport, infrastructure, agriculture, security as well. It's normal for someone to give back to where he started, where he belonged.

What have you been able to do in Education and Scholarship scheme?

In terms of education, we have done scholarships and paid school fees for over 1,500 students which covers Junior and Senior Waec payment and their school fees as well. So quiet numbers of students have benefited from our foundation.

Has your Foundation been able to contribute to economic development?

Yeah, across Kwara South, we have been able to empower more than 15,000 women from seven local governments, in Offa and Oyun local governments we have been able to empower over 10,000 market women, our beneficiaries cut across Owode Market and Oja ale Market, we gave them a soft loan without interest.

What is the effort of your foundation in Agriculture and food security?

Well, we have been able to share food among the underprivileged amounting to over 10,000 people, we started last year Ramadan with 2,000 people at the end of Ramadan we gave over 3,000 people, and during the last Ramadan we gave over 5,000 people relief them, and in the agricultural sector, last year we purchased two tractors for the farmers in Oyun and Offa local government to use it without charging a kobo, they only bought diesel, we provided the operator and maintenance of the tractors, last year we are able to cultivate more than 60 hecares of land, we realized that at the far north, insecurity isn't allowing them to farm like before so we have provided 50 hectares of land, it comprises two local government of Oyun and Offa, we are going to cultivate predominantly maize and cassava, we are going to employ farmers, provide the seeds to be planted our target is to feed over 120,000 underprivileged with the scheme, the scheme is projected to last for at least two years.

What has been the Foundation's impact on security?

Well, in the area of security, we have covered two categories, firstly we powered streets and secondly, we powered transformers because we have serious cases of cable vandalism now and then, which affects the residents. In Offa alone, we have powered more than 120 transformers, before we powered those transformers, there were weekly reports as regards cable vandalism, but since we started the lightening the cases have reduced drastically, and we haven't stopped at that, we have been able to empower the communities security outfit with resources and gadgets including monthly stipends.

Are you able to carry people living with disability along in your programs?

The disabled are a special set of people, Yorubal calls them “AKANDA” They are special because of their situation which has denied them rights to achieve certain things, in everything we have been doing we are able to seclude them m, so we have been treating them specially because of their situation, their conditions attracted our attention because there is limit a to what the can do.

Has the Foundation been able to touch the health sector?

Yes, in the health sector, we picked a special interest because we realized that people died untimely because of little money they were unable to pay, so the MOK Foundation partnered with primary health centers, we have a form that the underprivileged who visit the hospitals fill, then the hospital will contact us to assist such people, we have been able to pay for over 1,000 patients.

What is the relationship between the communities and the MOK Foundation?

As I have said, I lived in the locality, while growing up, I moved around, people I moved with were older than me, I asked questions, and I was able to hear a lot from them, so when I established the MOK Foundation, we were able to pinpoint the problems, we are able to achieve that because of the genuity of the Foundation.

What have been the major activities and impacts of the Foundation?

Yes, the Foundation has given me more insight into people's well-being, we have done a lot, too numerous to mention, and the communities appreciate what we have been able to do for them in the last year.

What is the MOK Foundation's Future Plan?

Well, it took us about two years to plan the Foundation, so the plan is that the Foundation will sustain itself for over 40 years even if I am not alive, the Foundation will still be running, it's my desire and nothing will stop it.

Your political view and orientation?

Leadership is something we need to possess, with it without politics, the Foundation has come to stay for at least forty years, if I have any political ambition definitely can't last for forty years, from the feedback we have received from various communities we are very glad if they want us to lead there is nothing we can do, we would accept to lead, but in all fairness, we are not running the Foundation in relation to politics, we are genuinely giving back to society.

What's your final thought?

As I have said, politics is not part of the Foundation’s vision, but a call from the communities is not what we can turn deaf ears to, thank you.

Hon. Kamil Aransi, the Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Special Needs, has praised Rt. Hon.. Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Obokun lawmaker, Hon. Adeyemi Adewumi, popularly known as Irekandu, and other legislators over the successful passage of the Osun State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill, 2024.

Aransi, who could not hide his joy and excitement, described the bill as a better approach to assist the government and people with disabilities in their journey of inclusion.

While appreciating Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi IREKANDU for sponsoring the bill, Aransi stated that he has no doubts that the bill would not only secure the welfare, health and education of every person with disabilities in the state but also protect their rights.

According to Aransi, the Disability Prohibition Bill would give equal rights to participation in decision-making, and persons with disabilities would be able to contribute their quota to the growth and development of the state.

Aransi, who described Governor Ademola Adeleke as a governor with a human face and consciously driven by compassion and extreme affection for the poor and vulnerable, disclosed that his principal would be eager to sign the bill into law, set up the necessary bureau, and allow it to function for the public good.

Senator Adeleke is a leader for all. I am glad that Osun State is leading the discussion of empowering persons with disabilities through state apparatus, and it shows the compassion and desperation of the governor to grow the state in all measures, Aransi added.

PoliticsGovernor Adeleke Did Not Borrow A Kobo - Spokesperson by Jimsonjaat86(op): 1:37pm On May 06, 2024
Our attention has been drawn to a report by the Nation Newspaper alleging that Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken a loan of over Ten Billion Naira. We strongly affirm that the story is not true.

Governor Adeleke has not at any point since assuming office taken any loan either through a resolution of the State Executive Council or that of the State House of Assembly.

The ongoing multi-billion naira infrastructure projects across Osun state have no loan components. They are all being financed through state resources. The dualisation of roads, the overhead bridges, the school and health centres upgrades, and several roads projects are being funded through special project account created by the State Government.

What the newspaper report referred to as loans taken by Governor Adeleke were World Bank Development financing which were inherited from the previous administrations and which are national projects operated through the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the National Economic Council among others.

Such programmes of World Bank and multilateral institutions development includes Ilesa Water project; establishment of Osun Investment Promotion Local Business Offices across nine Federal Constituencies; O-Cares For Agricultural Support Services; World Bank On Saber For Development Of PPP; World Bank On Saber For Establishment Of Osun Investment Promotion One-Stop-Shop.

Others include World Bank On O-Cares Projects For Coordination Of State Cares (O-Cares) Activities; World Bank On Rural Access And AgriculturalMarketing Project (Raamp 3) for Rural Development Projects; World Bank For Community And Social Development Project On O-Cares; World Bank For Labour Intensive Public Workfare On O-Cares and World Bank For Social Support Programme (Cash Transfer To Indigent Elderly On Osun Covid-19 Action Recovery And Economic Stimulus) – (O-Cares).

As can be seen from the above, all the projects are related to the World Bank country programme for Nigeria which targets subnational entities using the mechanism of the Nigerian Governors Forum and the National Economic Council. Previous Governors in Osun State joined in the implementation of the projects which Governor Adeleke inherited.

In line with his principle of continuity of policies favorable to the public, the Governor sustained the projects as Osun cannot opt out of a national scheme in which all states of the Federation are involved.

No responsible government will abandon a series of World Bank projects which are already household names across the Federation and which have benefited so many residents.

We reaffirm again that Governor Adeleke has not borrowed a kobo since assuming office. Inherited liabilities and contracts cannot be tagged on the Governor of the Year on Infrastructure.

PoliticsKwara Govt Called On To Prioritize Workers' Rights by Jimsonjaat86(op): 7:56pm On May 01, 2024
On the occasion of Workers' Day, Comr. Salahudeen A. Lukman, a former Kwara State House of Assembly contestant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a passionate plea to the Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq-led Kwara State Government to address the pressing issues affecting workers in the state.

Lukman highlighted the challenges faced by salary earners and emphasized the critical need for support for workers, particularly in the post-subsidy removal era.

In his statement, Lukman stressed the importance of timely payment of salaries, arrears, promotions, and other bonuses, labeling these as legitimate rights that governments must not overlook.

He thereafter urged the Kwara State Government to emulate the proactive approach of counterparts in Edo and Lagos by ensuring the effective payment of wage rewards and the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage, as declared by the Federal Government effective May 1st.

Lukman emphasized that Kwara workers, known for their perseverance and consistency, deserve better treatment from the state government. He emphasized that promises of action in the vague future, characterized by words like "soon," are not acceptable, and immediate implementation of the new minimum wage is imperative.

In conclusion, Lukman extended his best wishes to Kwarans and Nigerian workers on Workers' Day, while reiterating the pressing need for the Kwara State Government to prioritize the rights and welfare of its workforce.

HIS FULL STATEMENT IS REPRODUCED BELOW

"SOON IS NOT A DATE; KWARA WORKERS DESERVE BETTER.

Today, I join the Nigerian workforce to celebrate Workers' Day, a day specially dedicated to celebrating the significant contribution and importance of workers in nation-building.

As a former civil servant in the education sector, I quite understand the challenges faced by salary earners, as well as the need for support for workers at this critical time in our nation, especially in the post-subsidy removal era.

Salary, arrears, promotion, and other bonuses, including timely review, implementation, and prompt payment of the new minimum wage for workers, should be considered as a favor by any government. It's the legitimate right of workers that governors must not toy with.

It's on this premise that I urge the Kwara State Government under Mallam Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman to borrow a leaf from his counterparts in Edo and Lagos, ensuring effective payment of wage rewards, consistent stagnated working days, and immediate implementation of the new minimum wage upon final conclusion by the federal government, effective from May 1st, as declared by the Federal Government.

Kwara workers have been the most understanding workforce; they demonstrate perseverance and consistency, hence they deserve better from the government of the day in the state.

Soon, sooner, or soonest is never a date; Kwara workers deserve better. Immediate implementation of the new minimum wage is sacrosanct.

Once again, happy Workers' Day to Kwarans and Nigerian workers.

Signed

PoliticsHas Saraki Lost His Midas Touch? by Jimsonjaat86(op): 3:51pm On May 01, 2024
By Taofik Adekunle Jimoh (JAAT)

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the 13th President of the Nigerian Senate, is perceived to be diminishing the Saraki Political Dynasty, which spanned seven decades, from 1979 to 2019.

The most recent cause for concern was the wave of resignations that swept through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the national level shortly after Senator Bukola Saraki was appointed Chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee, a position he first assumed in November 2020. This appointment marked his initial involvement in the party after losing reelection in 2019 and losing influence in his home state, Kwara. The committee's mandate was to resolve crises within the party's chapters in Nasarawa, Ekiti, Cross River, and other states.

I read with dismay the list of 27 PDP national leaders, officials, and stakeholders across the country who reportedly resigned from the party on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The list was titled "Mr. Reconciliation, otuka (it scattered) home and away!"

I must express my disappointment and dissatisfaction; Bukola Saraki is failing to live up to the legendary status built around his persona. He resembles a lion past its prime, regaling its grandchildren and neighbors with tales of its former hunting glory.

Even more disheartening would be his return to the APC. Such a move would signify Saraki's acceptance of defeat and his quest for solace and relevance in the camp of his political adversaries. However, as they say, there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics. How naive of me.

The Kwara State chapter of the PDP has also suffered significant losses, with prominent figures resigning, including former state secretary Abdulrazaq Lawal, former Publicity Secretary Prince Tunji Moronfoye, former Women Leader Alhaja Riskat Abdulahi, former Organizing Secretary Hajia Bilikisu Oniyangi, Honourable Abdulmajeed Kayode Olaosebikan alias Irede (Offa PDP stalwart), PDP's 2023 contestant for Oyun/Offa/Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon Hassan Oyeleke, Kwara North PDP Senatorial Chairman Hon. Shuaibu Jimoh, and many others.

A friend suggested that this might be one of Saraki's strategies to align his supporters with the APC before his potential return. We eagerly await developments.

The popularity of a political party or group is largely determined by the number of influential members and their electoral value. I understand this despite not being a politician or a card-carrying member of any party.

Senator Bukola Saraki holds sway over Kwara PDP. He is still feared—or perhaps revered? All party members await his signal before taking any action. A notable example is the 2023 presidential campaign funds controversy involving the former State youth leader, Prince Haliru Mahmoud Dantsoho. The subsequent "trials of Haliru Mahmoud Dantsoho" and his eventual dismissal by the party (or resignation, as he claims) serve to underscore Saraki's influence for those of us observing from a distance.

It has been half a decade since the Offa Robbery debacle and the "O To Ge Political Tsunami"—as one of my acquaintances describes it—and Saraki's political clout seems to diminish with each passing day. Under Saraki's leadership, Kwara PDP has faltered, while he himself is subjected to ridicule in the Kwara APC circles, with only a handful of supporters defending him.

In politics, silence is not golden! Saraki faced intense scrutiny during the "O To Ge" campaign and amidst allegations surrounding the Offa Robbery of April 2018. Yet, his response—or lack thereof—has been silence, or at best, feeble and unconvincing denials. Even now, he remains silent. Despite vehemently denying any involvement in the Offa robbery, public perception remains tainted, allowing the opposition to capitalize on the situation since 2018. I recently heard a song composed to that effect:

Wọn pa oloyun
Won pa olopa
Won pa ara ilu
Epe ara Offa ni o pa wọn

(They killed pregnant women,
They killed police officers
They killed residents of Offa
It is curses of Offa people that will kill them)

To this day, many remain unconvinced of Bukola Saraki's (and the Abdulfatah Ahmed-led Kwara State Government's) innocence in the matter. It is those close to him, or claiming to be, who propagate the Saraki narrative to the disinterested people of Kwara. When I raised these points with a friend, he remarked, "you know, Saraki is not one for the media." Yet, was this not the same Saraki who was active on TikTok prior to the 2023 elections?

Dear Senator Bukola Saraki, media warfare is an integral part of Nigerian politics now, and your camp seems ill-prepared. For every statement Kwara PDP or Sarakites make, they receive threefold responses from the opposing party. The Kwara APC possesses a larger and more influential media presence. An article can be shared by at least 4 - 5 individuals on average. Consider someone like me, who is a member of at least 20 - 25 Kwara media platforms on WhatsApp—I am inundated with these articles. I'm sure I'm not alone.

The recent exchange between the two parties highlights this disparity. The altercation began with an article by AbdulQuadri Onilemarun Abdul Kareem titled "Like Yahaya Bello, like AbdulRahman Abdulrazak." He was swiftly met with more detailed and informed rebuttals: "Wanted by the Law: Yahaya Bello, the revised edition of Bukola Saraki" by Owodunni Kunle Rasheed and "Yahaya Bello Vs EFCC: Saraki, the name in bed with local and international corruption, tyranny" by Daud Abdullahi. Once again, silence ensued in the Kwara media sphere. The victor of this media battle is evident.

This is without even considering the contributions of the SSA Communications, Abdullateef Egghead. I had to alert my friend Charles in Kwara to the fact that Egghead had released four different articles on Saraki and the Kwara Government within 72 hours.

Today, Saraki's name is tarnished in Kwara. Nobody wants to be associated with it. Kwara PDP ward meetings are dwindling, and members are defecting. Party leaders anxiously await a response from Bukola Saraki—for solace, for hope, for direction. Yet, "the leader" remains silent.

Is this not the same Saraki Political Dynasty that governed Kwara and influenced Nigerian politics from the Second Republic to 2019? Is this not the dynasty that produced three Senators from the same family, two of whom became Senate Leader and Senate President respectively?

The Saraki Dynasty, led by Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, facilitated his senatorial tenure in 1979 and subsequently influenced the appointment of civilian governors for Kwara State: Adamu Attah (1979–1983), Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo (1983–1983), Mohammed Sha'aba Lafiagi (1 January 1992 – November 1993), Mohammed Alabi Lawal (1999 - 2003), his son Abubakar Bukola Saraki MBBS CON (2003 - 2011), Abdulfatah Ahmed (2011 - 2019). This excludes numerous members of the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, senators, and state and federal appointees in between.

In a northern state and male-dominated society, Gbemisola Saraki would be remembered as a former House of Representatives member (Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency), a two-term Kwara Central Senator, a former Kwara gubernatorial candidate under the ACPN, and a former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development and Transportation.

Bukola Saraki needs to chart a new course. 2019 is Saraki’s past. While it's undeniable that the Saraki Dynasty suffered defeats in all elections—presidential, gubernatorial, senate, house of representatives, and house of assembly—Bukola even lost in his Local Government Area and ward. It may be unthinkable, but it happened.

The 2023 election in Kwara should not be the final chapter for the Saraki Dynasty, which has produced kings and kingmakers for seven decades.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki needs to regain his Midas Touch, rather than merely being seen as a privileged son of Olusola Saraki.

As Saro would say in "Anikulapo" the movie: ".....Dìde.....Gbéra nilẹ!"

Education2024 Jamb Failure Is Collective by Jimsonjaat86(op): 3:44pm On May 01, 2024
By Taofik Adekunle Jimoh (JAAT)

Ten years ago, I lost 70 marks in JAMB (230 out of 300), and it took the consolation of my brother Okeola Abass Abayomi for me to recuperate emotionally. He said nobody would have blamed me had I failed, as my mother had just died a few days before my exams. Who knows, I might have scored 299 like Onomejoh Princewill, the 2014 highest scorer.

Fast forward to 2024, the JAMB result statistics released are not only saddening but also call for serious concerns. And I also call it a seed sown decades ago which has begun to germinate.

Today, Nigeria has two generations (Gen Z and Gen Alpha) who don't see much good about education, and they don't see any reason why they should study hard because they don't want to "stress themselves." I speak from my knowledge of these generations (Gen Z and Gen Alpha); if you give them assignments, you will need to beg them to do it and explain how it will contribute to their GPA.

Some will even come back to tell you that the assignments you gave them are stressful, hence, they can't do them.

Giving them days' notice for tests, assignments, and exams doesn't mean they will come to school on the D-day. "I'm sick" and "I'm busy" are the most constant excuses I hear from them, and there's nothing to do. I always wonder, busy doing what exactly?

These are generations that are led to believe that everything is about money, and as long as you have it, through straight or curved means, you are good to go. It is a common scene to see secondary school students in public schools buying phones, clothes, and other stuff worth hundreds of dollars and thousands (if not millions) of Naira, and society appears unconcerned. This is a society that shames hardworking individuals and glorifies fraud and shortcuts. These teens are exposed to internet money and quick money-making systems, and there's no turning back, just like a domesticated lion tasting blood for the first time.

When discussing this earlier today, my Brother Saheed Olayinka-Olaiya Shittu said, "Do they have to (study)? How long does it take for those who choose integrity and hard work to succeed compared to how long it takes a TikTok dancer, political thugs and sycophants, Yahoo runners, drug peddlers, treasury looters, etc to succeed?

"Of all the above, the TikTok dancer has the most honest job; it hardly adds anything to people's lives, but they would rather watch hours of dance than minutes of learning."

This society is not encouraging hard work and talents if the two are not producing money quickly. People with the best university certificates are seen roaming the streets hunting for jobs every blessed day, so how would that motivate their family, especially younger brothers or sisters, that education is the key?

Some brilliant and talented graduates have been forced to take up alternatives for survival. Well, it is said, "to say you are from me is better than everything on your CV."

I know a colleague who resigned from his lecturing job because the highly exalted job has now been subjected to ridicule.

Despite going to work every day, the management said they will be paying them every semester (3 months), and it will also depend on the number of courses they were taking. Imagine going to work every day and being paid 30k after three months because you took three courses throughout the semester? I know two tertiary institutions that adopt this payment system.

People will be looking at you from the outside and say, "he's a big man. A lecturer at so and so," but in all honesty, you earn 40 - 50k in 3 months. Everyone knows salary earners clear their debts at the end of the month. How would you explain "at the end of the semester (3 months)" to those you owe?! On top of 50k!

PoliticsAssessing The Promises And Realities Of Hon. Ismail Tijani's Tenure by Jimsonjaat86(op): 9:12pm On Apr 30, 2024
A Call for Renewed Representation: Assessing the Promises and Realities of Hon. Ismail Tijani's Tenure
By Sulaiman Aisha
For years, the people of Kwara State have yearned for a fresh breath in governance, well before the winds of change swept through the political landscape in 2019. The "Otoge" movement, a clarion call for transformation, resonated deeply with citizens, offering hope for a new era of accountability and progress. Yet, as the dust settled and new leaders emerged, the true test of their commitment to effective representation began.
In 2019, the Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun constituency, like many others across the state, embraced this spirit of change with open arms. Constituents eagerly welcomed their new legislator, Hon. Ismail Tijani, with high hopes and optimistic expectations. A youthful figure in his mid-thirties, Tijani was seen as a beacon of hope, a voice of the people who would champion their interests and advocate for good governance.
However, as the tenure unfolded, disillusionment began to set in. Despite the initial enthusiasm and promises of transformative leadership, many constituents found themselves grappling with a harsh reality. While Tijani secured a second term in office, his performance fell short of expectations, particularly when compared to his peers in the Kwara State legislature.
One of the primary grievances voiced by constituents was the perceived disconnect between Tijani and the grassroots. Despite calls for greater engagement and accessibility, the legislator seemed to remain entrenched within his inner circle, failing to bridge the gap between himself and the people he was elected to serve.
Moreover, concerns were raised regarding the efficacy of Tijani's representation. While empowerment initiatives were touted, they were often perceived as half-hearted and lacking in tangible results. Many constituents lamented the absence of effective action and solutions to address their pressing needs and concerns.
In the face of mounting dissatisfaction, calls for accountability grew louder. Constituents urged Tijani to heed their pleas, to step out from the shadows of complacency, and to confront the realities on the ground. However, these appeals fell on deaf ears, as the legislator appeared reluctant to acknowledge the gravity of the situation.
Now, as the electoral cycle has ended, the people of Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun find themselves at a crossroads. Disillusioned by broken promises and unfulfilled expectations, they are left with a sobering realization: it is time to reclaim their power and demand a change.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, constituents are resolved to exercise their democratic rights with greater discernment. They refuse to be swayed by hollow rhetoric or empty promises. Instead, they seek leaders who embody integrity, competence, and a genuine commitment to serving the public good.
In conclusion, the case of Hon. Ismail Tijani serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of accountability and transparency in governance. As citizens, it is our duty to hold our elected representatives to the highest standards of integrity and performance. Only then can we truly build a future that reflects the aspirations and ideals of all Kwara State residents.

PoliticsOsun State Unveils New Logo by Jimsonjaat86(op): 8:42pm On Apr 30, 2024
When some days ago, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, announced the Constitution of a Panel of Judges to decide the outcome of a logo contest he had ordered earlier, we knew it was a call to serious service.
Firstly, we knew that the Governor is keen about rebranding Osun, to give her a better image in the comity of States.
Secondly, we knew that Osun people wanted excellent branding that will adequately represent our identity and project the limitless potential of the State.
We set to work, with a collective resolve to select the best of the logo designs, thereby serving the interest of our people and promoting inclusiveness in critical government decisions.
We set out vital conditions that the ideal logo must meet. These are:
1. Creativity, reflected in how much the design deploys innovation in the presentation of its ideas.
2. Uniqueness, reflected in how much it differs from any existing State Government logo in the country.
3. Symbolism, reflected in how much the logo presents ideas that symbolize critical sectors of the State - Agriculture, Mining, Tourism, etc.
The committee reviewed over three hundred (300) logo submissions, showing the dexterity and innovation of the youths of Nigeria and Osun State. It was indeed a keen contest.
At the end of the very thorough review process, the Committee presented a shortlist of 5 logo designs to the Executive Governor from which he selected the top three designs, in collaboration with some of his top aides. The top three designs are by:
1. Mogaji Bolaji Abdullah
2. Ayoola Simeon
3. Busari Tola (on behalf of a group of Osun-based Graphics Designers)
The Executive Governor has since unveiled the top design as the new logo of the State, as Government's rebranding efforts continue.
Prizes for the top three designers will be unveiled in a couple of days, while the designers themselves will be formally hosted by relevant offices of government.
We appreciate the opportunity to serve the State in this capacity and we specifically thank the Executive Governor, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for the privilege to serve.
May our dear State continue to excel.

This was contained in a press statement by Jare Tiamiyu, Executive Director, Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development and made available to newsmen on Monday, April 29.

The local government is the closest tier of government to the people but the awareness of its functions and roles seems to be at the lowest level in the last few years and this has not helped in bringing good governance to the people.

Advocates are to serve as volunteers who will drive this project in their respective local government areas.

Interested persons are to visit the project website www.osunopenlg.com to apply.

Application closes on Friday, May 10, 2024. Only shortlisted candidates will be communicated.

Nairaland GeneralSuffering And Smiling: Fuel Scarcity Is Back! by Jimsonjaat86(op): 11:37pm On Apr 29, 2024
By Muideen Adebayo Ibrahim (MAI)

The Iconic Late Fela Anikulapo A.K.A Abami Eda released a hit song in 1978 entitled " *Shuffering and Shmiling*" (Suffering and Smiling).

"Suffer, suffer, suffer, suffer, suffer, suffer for world.
Na your fault be that
Me I say: na your fault be that".

The lyrics is quite long and due to space constraint, let's leave it at that please.

It is not out of point to say that the late Abami Eda was a Prophet in his own right because some of the things he sang about have come to pass and even getting worse.

We have no option than to keep smiling despite the untold hardships melted to Nigerians by the actions and/or inactions of this government.

There is a Yoruba proverb which says; *Kaka ko san fun iya aje owa nfi gbogbo omo bibi re bi obirin, eiye wa nyi lu eiye* (Instead of things improving with the witch, she has female children who will become witches in their turn, vampire bird is added to vampire bird).

Frankly speaking, the situation of things in Nigeria is becoming more critical and rather that things to come down, they are going up unabated.

We woke up on Monday 29th April, 2024 to another serious fuel scarcity.

Most of the filing stations are under lock and key.

Nigerians were caught napping.

There were fewer buses and even cars on the roads. Most of them were on long queues at the various filing stations.

To add salt to injury, fuel price has skyrocketed.

Some filing stations sold fuel at N860/liter whilst others sold at N900/liter and even more in some cases.

The few ones that sold at the normal price of N580/litre collected money ranging from N500.00 to N1,000.00 aside from what you will buy and pay for after they might have dispensed fuel.

The spiral effects of this sudden fuel scarcity can better be imagined than described.

Some of which are: Prices of goods and services have gone up astronomically immediately, transportation fare has also increased immediately even more than 200% in some instances. Manufactured goods would be adversely affected as well. School fees, cost of drugs and what have you would be adversely affected. Which way Nigeria please?

Nigerians are groining now, they are helpless and harpless.

This writer is of the opinion that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should please step in without further delay and give a marching order to the NNPC to ensure that fuel is made available to Nigerians immediately instead of the two weeks they said the scarcity will linger on for. NNPCL does not have any excuse for the current fuel scarcity at all. It shows that theu lack proper planning.

When the subsidy on fuel was removed, one of the arguments they used to cajoled Nigerians is that there won't be scarcity of fuel any longer.

But as it were, we are now back to square one.

It is sad and disheartening that we are experiencing fuel scarcity at a time like this when the interest rate it very high, naira is devalued and no longer strong whilst the purchasing power is extremely low.

The National Assembly should also step in and invite the Group GMD/CEO of NNPCL to shed light on why their is scarcity of fuel at a time like this and implore him to ensure that fuel is available for Nigeria without further delay.

Aside from the above, all the necessary supports should be given to Dangote Refinery to churn out PMS on time since more Nigerians need it even more than diesel that Dangote Refinery has churned out.

The government should be very sensitive enough and give Nigerians real dividend of democracy so that Nigerians will not Japa any longer.

The earlier the government looks into this current fuel scarcity the better so that Nigerians can live better lives and enjoy dividend of democracy to the fullest in the spirit of good governance and apt leadership.

It is well with Nigeria and Nigerians.

In a heartwarming gesture, the lawmaker distributed sets of equipment worth over N20million and cash gifts to over 200 beneficiaries yesterday,

According to the Lawmaker, he said this is one of the reasons he sought for the mandate of his people to represent them, noting that he has done more before and he is still going to do more for them.

He posited, "What i am doing today is part of my promises to my people in Ede. I have done many in the past, I am still going to do more. As a people, we've been shortchanged in the past, the time to reap the real dividends of democracy is now.

"What I have done in the past is just a tip of the iceberg, many are still coming for my people. It's undeniable fact that the present economic hardship is everywhere and we must do everything possible to make sure our people are able to cater for themselves.

He, however, applauded Governor Ademola Adeleke for his people's oriented programmes as he urged the people to continue supporting the current PDP administration in the state.

"What you are witnessing today in Osun under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke is unprecedented. Every nook and cranny of the state are being attended to.

"The infrastructure development deficit inherited by the current administration is huge, but because of the financial ingenuity of His Excellency, he is turning things around for good for our people."

Speaking at the event, the chairman of the day, Rt. Hon. Wale Egbedun commended the lawmaker, Hon. Kofoworola Babajide for bringing succor to his people, saying this is what the representative of the people should be doing at the moment.

He said people are not finding it easy at the moment, hence those in position of authority must do everything humanly possible to support them.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious of the equipments, noting that it is not easy for someone to purchase as many equipments like this and the people mess it up within a short period of time "it will be very painful if you misuse this opportunity."

Other distinguished guests in attendance were the Deputy Speaker, Commissioner for Integration and Special Duties, Commissioner for Cooperative and Empowerment, Special Advisers to the Governor, PDP State Executives, PDP Local Executives, and party members.

Nairaland GeneralShould Nigeria Have A Two-children Policy? by Jimsonjaat86(op): 3:11pm On Apr 27, 2024
By Morenikeji Agboola Okoji

Nigeria's rapidly growing population, currently exceeding 200 million, is projected to double by 2050, sparking concerns about population management. This growth rate is alarming, considering the country's population was just 43 million at independence in 1960. In contrast, it took 64 years to reach 200 million, but it's now expected to double in just 26 years. China's one-child policy, enforced for 36 years, offers a potential model for population control. While a large and growing population can boost economic power through an increased labor force, it also poses significant challenges, including rising unemployment and poverty rates. Effective population management strategies are crucial to mitigating these issues.

Nigeria, being a country rich in ethnic and cultural diversity, has one common thread among its people which is their desire for large families. Having many children is often seen as a symbol of prosperity, prestige, and family expansion. This cultural mindset may contribute to the country's rapid population growth. However, implementing a policy to limit family size might be met with resistance, especially since many families take full responsibility for their children's education and healthcare. It's understandable that people might question why they should adhere to government regulations when they're already shouldering the bulk of the responsibilities themselves.

Do you think having a two-children policy will be adhered to by Nigerians?

Let's hear your thoughts on it .

PoliticsSenator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, The Garrison Commander Of NNPP Now An Expelled Mem by Jimsonjaat86(op): 9:22am On Apr 27, 2024
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, The Garrison Commander Of NNPP Now An Expelled Member In 2024

Before his expulsion, take a close look at his hatchet men in the defunct National Working Committee:

- Professor Ahmed Alikali -- Frustrated out
- Prof Sam Angwe -- Frustrated out
- Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi -- Frustrated out
- AVM Ihemeje -- Frustrated out
- Dr Agbo Gilbert Major -- Frustrated out

All the above-named persons are not ready to stomach any nonsense or undemocratic behavior from Senator Kwankwaso.

REMAINING STOOGES AND INCONSEQUENTIALS OF THE STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE FAMILY MEMBERS:

- Alhaji Abba Kawu -- Cannot write a statement to the police, yet he was made the Acting National Chairman of NNPP for one year.
- Elder Buba Galadima -- A frustrated old politician and political prostitute living in a two-bedroom bungalow. Just last Sallah holidays, he may have received 2 million naira from Senator Kwankwaso, with instructions to distribute accordingly: 1 million naira to the wife and family, 0.5 million naira for himself, and 0.5 million naira for Sadaka to people during the Sallah. He is a mere beggar to eat and thus must go live on television to talk nonsense and lie to Nigerians.
- Barr Johnson Ladipo -- Who is living in his father's colonial duplex after 30 years at the bar and who, on live television, told Nigerians that an MOU signed into effect by both parties is a worthless document before a court of competent jurisdiction. What a lawyer, for God's sake, hoping that he is not usually under the influence of alcohol or any other substance, as the case may be.
- Prince Ayoade -- A retired army Major during General Babangida's era, whose source of livelihood is to help secure licenses from the police for people who want to own personal pump-action guns.
- Prince Onu Nweze -- A small chief from Ebonyi state who, according to Prince Ayoade, the former Zonal Vice Chairman Southwest, was an informant to the army during their era with General Babangida.
- Mr Dipo Olayokun -- An ex-member of the Minaji television, a member of NAGAFF who was seconded to represent NAGAFF at the National Working Committee of NNPP. He betrayed NAGAFF and is now declared persona non grata by the board and members.
- Hajia Aliyu Shade -- A close woman friend of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso holding our bag of money in a separate account. All monies as donations to the party and offshore monies during nomination enlistment of candidates. Indeed, she was in charge of NNPP situation room, changing names of candidates of those that pay higher amounts and reporting to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso alone.

GENERAL COMMENT:

There are a few respected individuals who refused to be converted into the Kwankwasiya movement, who are still studying the situation in NNPP and are likely to burst in anger shortly. Some of them are from APC and TNM remnants. Those who won elective positions in the Senate, Federal House, and state assembly are not particularly happy with the change of party logo, flag, and mutilation of the constitution to suit the ideals of the Kwankwasiya movement. These groups of members are looking forward to the 2027 general election and their position and relevance. What happens to them if Kwankwaso fails on this unjustified betrayal attitude.

Barr Johnson Ladipo as a lifetime liar and a disgrace to the legal profession.

The truth is that some of our judges are not bold enough to serve justice probably because of the level of insecurity in our country. The two judges of the Federal High Court in Awka and Abuja have no reason to rule that the crisis in NNPP is internal, wherein there are two leadership tussles. All the judges needed to do is to exercise jurisdictional powers over the NNPP constitution to deliver judgment and give direction for resolution.

However, since the lower courts have decided otherwise, it is our hope and belief that the appellate courts and/or the Supreme Court shall be bold enough to serve justice to society. The Supreme Court of Kano State refers in the case of Gov Abba Kabir and Gawuna of APC.

If this is the understanding of Barr Johnson Ladipo of the Kwankwasiya movement that NNPP under Major Agbo Gilbert leadership has lost in the cases, then it is most unfortunate and regrettable that the parents of Barr Ladipo Johnson must have wasted their hard-earned money to train him as a lawyer.

INEC IN ITS STATUTORY FUNCTIONS AS AN AGENT OF THE GOVERNMENT CHARGED WITH THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF REGULATION AND CONTROL OF ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA:

With every sense of humility and due respect, the chairman of INEC needs to increase his supervisory role over his SUBORDINATES especially in the area of the rule of law and systemic corruption and although societal.

It is trite in law and court rule that once a matter is before a court and parties duly served, it means that the court has arrested the matter. All parties must remain in their original position until a pronouncement is made by the court.

It is, therefore, very shameful, systematic in corruption and disrespectful to court rule for INEC to witness the illegal convention of the Kwankwasiya movement masquerading as NNPP despite the fact that INEC was duly served with court notice. This is not good for our country and election matters in Nigeria.

On the other hand, Senator Kwankwaso's leadership in Kwankwasiya is most unfortunate. This is because he is expected to show a good example to his followers. As a former lawmaker, minister of defense, Gov of Kano State, and other responsible positions he held, one expected him to be a good ambassador of the rule of law.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that he was duly served with court notice, he went ahead to conduct the illegal convention and ran out of the country to the USA. This level of impunity is not good for our society.

It is to us that in a civil society, the police are angels of God on earth with inherent powers to call to order individuals and operators of the agencies of the government who act against the norms of society when reported. The IGP is expected to take appropriate action to deal with avoidable circumstances including prosecution.

May we, therefore, call the attention of the INEC CHAIRMAN, INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE, AND INDEED THE CHIEF JUDGE OF THE FEDERATION TO ASK QUESTIONS IN THE MATTER OF NNPP VS SENATOR RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO FOR THE PEACE OF THE SOCIETY.

On this note, we the leadership and members of the New Nigeria People's Party shall continue to be law-abiding citizens for the peace and development of our country. It is equally mandatory that we shall continue to support the president of Nigeria and other leaders in this trial time of our country.

The mantra of new hope for Nigeria is a task that must be achieved, and therefore, we must join hands to make Nigeria great once again. To achieve that, we must work together very hard. We must be law-abiding citizens and show love for God to all manner of people that may come our way.

Let us also pray for our country and the likes of Senator RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO to understand that it is only God who decides who shall be the king.

Mr. SUNDAY OLAPOSI OGINNI
NATIONAL SECRETARY NNPP HQRS ABUJA, NIGERIA"
