Gov Adeleke Issues Red Alert on School and Rural Security, Announces Major Reforms

●Summons State Security Council Meeting

● Amotekun Billed for Reorganisation

OSOGBO-12/03/2024- Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised alarm over threat to peace and security within the state school system and rural farm communities, summoning a meeting of the state security council and announcing major security reforms.

In a statement issued on Tuesday morning, the Governor made reference to intelligence snippets of deliberate mobilisation of criminal elements to the rural areas of the state, stressing that such reports are alarming and pose serious concerns to the well being of Osun people.

The Governor noted that the administration is worried about reports that those behind the plot are targeting disruption of farming activities through kidnappings and attacks on rural farm settlements.

It was further revealed that schools are being targeted with abductions and attacks as a way of distracting from the implementation of the safe school initiative and the multi-billion naira infrastructure plan.

Governor Adeleke noted that while a meeting of the state security council has been summoned, preliminary directives have been issued to school authorities to take precautions to enhance the safety of pupils and students.

The Ministry of Education and all education agencies have been ordered to review safety measures in Osun schools in line with the safe school initiative.

In specific terms, school principals and heads are expected to clear overgrown school environments and ensure close liaison with the Parents and Teachers Association to secure their school environments.

The Governor further directs the Food Security Committee to submit an interim report to allow for immediate actions to safeguard farm security and secure farmers as the rainy season knocks on the door.

According to the Governor, we expect the initial report to contain practical and implementable measures to safeguard our farming communities through closer integration and mobilisation of the local hunters and forest rangers.

The Governor further announced his plans to embark on major reforms of the Amotekun security force, frowning at the internal rivalry, opposition penetration and external intervention that are negatively affecting the operation of the Amotekun force.

The Amotekun , the Governor noted, is to be reorganized to make it a truly efficient force to complement the efforts and operation of the police and other security agencies.

He assured the public that his administration has taken preemptive steps to secure our schools and farming communities, describing Osun as a peaceful state which will.not succumb to attempts to destabilize the peace and harmony among our people.

“I have summoned a meeting of the State Security Council to firm up all plans. I assure our people that I am on top of the situation. We are committed to securing our school, our farm, our society.

“No stone will be left unturned to disrupt plans of enemies of progress to plunge the state into crisis. I urge members of the public to inform security agencies of any unusual movement or activities across the state”, Governor Adelekw was quoted as saying.

PoliticsOsun Govt: How I Manage Osun Palliatives And Resources by Jimsonjaat86(op): 6:43pm On Feb 27, 2024
Governor Ademola Adeleke has shed more light on his management of state resources including palliative measures initiated by his administration and those supported by the Federal Government.

Responding to reports and questions raised by some groups in recent days, the State Governor through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed urged commentators to always avail themselves of publicly available facts about government programmes so as not to be perceived as serving opposition interest.

This administration has deliberately filled the public space with its plans and intentions across the sectors. The Governor has embraced openness and transparency. Our commentators should avail themselves of critical facts and figures instead of twisting and falsifying publicly verifiable details about state governance.

On palliative distribution in Osun State, we urge the civil society to always engage in thorough field review before taking positions especially as most of the questions raised could have been answered either through desk research or direct freedom of Information request to the relevant government agencies.

Rice distribution was handled by a non-governmental committee chaired by Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria and populated by representatives of various non-governmental groups. The inauguration of the committee and their activities were widely covered by the media.

As for the N2 Billion palliative expenditure, we urge the group to officially contact the government if it has legal fulfillment to do so within the framework of the Freedom of Information Act especially as the group has shown mischief and refusal to accept details severally released by the government on the administration of palliative measures in the state.

Ongoing in Osun are multiple government programmes which have at its core palliative interventions such as the wage awards for pensioners and workers that is going to run for six months, sustenance of payment of half salary and pension debt inherited from previous government, the three billion naira plus cooperative loans for artisans and small businesses, the soft medical programmes like the free medical surgeries for pensioners, expansion of free grants to the poor of the poor in Osun state and expected delivery of new buses to widen transport access and affordability.

In the interest of educated discourse, It may interest the group to note that Osun is spending far above the said two billion naira which is a loan to states and which the Federal Government has even asked the state governments to start refunding.

It was also false to assert that the Governor has added the N2 billion to the N100 billion infrastructure fund as the state has spent far above the N2 billion in service of the needs and aspirations of her people in this hard time.

As a responsible government, the state project account has not in any way stopped the state government from implementing many laudable palliative programmes listed above.

As to what Osun is doing with allocations to the state, we hasten to remind the group that there is an elected government in place with a mandate to govern and deliver on good governance within statutory structures and platforms and with appropriation laws to which all are bound.

How government funds are being disposed of and expended are governed by laws and the group can reach the public account committee of the House of Assembly for the annual public account report or take hold of the 2024 budgetary act to read how state funds are allocated across sectors and projects.

Without ascribing bias, we further educate the group to at least read of the state Governor's plan on food security which he has presented at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and for which he has empanelled a committee chaired by the Commissioner for Agriculture.

To whoever may be ignorant of publicly available reports on state plans on food security, the agenda covers farm security, strategies for expansion of food production, unclogging farm transportation logistics , easing food access at affordable prices and hosting a back to farm event with government incentives.

On the issue of court closure, the facts are out as the implementation of the tripartite agreement for the resolution of the dispute depends on the Chief Judge calling a meeting of the State Judicial Service Commission especially as the Governor has ordered the implementation of areas that affected the executive arm in the agreement.

Why the group is blaming the Governor for failure to summon a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission beats all imagination and confirms again the known reality that the said group is a unknowingly serving opposition interest.

Or is the group asking the Governor to intervene in a judicial matter that is clearly within the purview of the state Chief Judge?

Or why is the group so protective of the Chief Judge to the extent of lacking the courage to ask the head of the state court to call a meeting of the judicial.service commission?

Or is the group calling for the jetissioning of the agreement to which even the national body of JUSUN was a signatory?

On the Osun mining space, we equally remind the public that the government inherited a messed up sector with a deep level of corruption and lack of accountability.

A reform was launched by the new mining office which is addressing issues of environmental protection,respect for community development, securing of the state mining license and fruitful negotiation to validate Osun shareholding in major mining firms.

Again, the group failed to acknowledge the ongoing reforms which op3nly covered environmental protection and which is gradually changing the face of Osun mining sector for the better.

To learn more about great happenings within the Osun mining sector, we will invite the group to a forthcoming stakeholders’ forum on Osun mining reform.

PoliticsOP-ED: Adeleke's Week Of Supersonic Pro-people Delivery by Jimsonjaat86(op): 7:13pm On Feb 24, 2024
BY Olawale Abdulahi Oladele

Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke is daily showing the nation how to truly serve the people. His supersonic delivery in service of his people has continued to thrill and excites people from far and near. What is unique is the width and depth of policy innovations which have the people at the center of imole.entation and benefits.

Few days ago at the lounge of the Transcorp hotel here in Abuja, three friends from North and East hijacked me to talk about my State Governor from the famous Adeleke family. I was shocked with their tracking of happenings in the state, especially their in depth analysis of the state. For almost two hours,they picked one policy or the other with questions on how the Governor is governing with such ease and dedication.

I left with a determination to actually put up this piece. I talked to my team on issues of innovative governance and we agreed Osun is emerging as the best laboratory for good governance in Nigeria.

When people tagged Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state, the dancing senator as the performing, working governor, it is like a mere hype. But a close scrutiny of the last one week revealed a systematic, structured policy focus which variously address the needs of the people and tackle headlong basic aspirations of the populace.

The last time I read a piece by the Governor’s spokesperson focussing on innovation for people’s aspirations under his principal, I almost took it for a public relation stunt. A follow up to pronouncements and actions of the state government confirmed the Governor’s genuine urge to fulfill electoral promises and attend to needs of the moment. I can confirm a studied determination by the administration to deliver. The facts and figures are out there and cannot be disputed.

In the last one week, it has had a stream of policy actions which at times overwhelm even the beneficiary citizenry. The endless reeling out of policies accompanied by implementation actions raises many questions about how the machine of the administration works. At one point, you see the Governor singing “Emi nikan loye”, at the other end, you read of two or even more key pronunciations. Before you digest one state action, you are bombarded with implementation actions.

Is the administration operated by AI? Or how do you explain in one week , three or even more policy outputs with the Governor directly on the driver chair? Are they not sleeping within Adeleke’s caucus?

Early in the week, the grant for the poor was rolled out with almost twenty thousand beneficiaries and another 60,000 being enrolled for ATM in furtherance of a widening for beneficiaries. Then, a technical implementation committee was put in place. Then came the food security committee focusing on key aspects like food security, food transportation, food access and expansion of food production.

Before that settled down, free medical surgeries for the state's 29,000 pensioners was launched with almost 100 surgeries done in the presence of the Governor at the Asubiaro hospital. The pensioners had earlier been fully enrolled in the state health insurance scheme.

Then, a surprising three zone launching of cooperative loan programmes totalling almost four billion naira for the phases was actualised. The Governor within a day supported three elders namely Dr Olu Alabi, Chief Faseru and Baba Alago to flag off the multi million naira loan scheme at Osogbo,Ilesa and Iwo. The three events witnessed an unprecedented turn out of people and mass enthusiasm among the citizenry.

Then upscaling of actions on the upgrading of the state mining licenses saw a stakeholders forum where key decisions were taken to upgrade the state mining licenses. The Governor had earlier operationalised the state shareholding within the Segilola Mining firm, deepening the state revenue base.

Four critical policy actions within a week- this is an unprecedented show of leadership seriousness and deliberate focus on the people as the reason why the government exists at all. I am impressed as a citizen that a Governor widely underrated can deliver such outputs with such ease.

Beyond above, reports confirm that the Governor’s multi billion naira infrastructure programme is ongoing. Several flyovers bridges, road dualisation, schools and health centers upgrade are ongoing despite the increasing inflation rates. Our team was at Osogbo and other work sites. The people handling Adeleke infra projects are working so efficiently.

And to imagine the Governor achieving all this without taking a single kobo as loan is tremendously applaudable. This is pace setting at its best.

No wonder, everywhere the Governor goes, the mass show of affection is overwhelming. At the Church service for the burial of late Rotimi Akeredolu, Osun Governor stole the show. On his way to Lagos, people practically ,spontaneously blocked the road at Ibadan, shouting his name-Imole.

Our counsel to the Governor and his team is to sustain these marvelous records. If top rating can be sustained weekly and monthly, overall performance rating will be quite unbeatable. The Governor must uphold the tempo with his team of super performers. He must however not lose guard.

His records so far are unrivaled. But he must keep up the good work. Innovations must continue. Thinking out of the box must be the goal. Reward of hard work is hard work. Well done, Mr Adeleke.

Nairaland GeneralGetting Osun Judiciary Back To Work by Jimsonjaat86(op): 4:36pm On Feb 24, 2024
BY SAMUEL AJAGBE

Strike action by Osun judicial workers has attracted national attention. Many are of the opinion that it is time for the strike to end . This is the position of the national leadership of the staff union. This was also accepted by the state government which set up a committee on industrial action.

What then is delaying the resolution of the strike? Why have the workers not gone back to work? What is the head of the judiciary doing as the head of that sector? What is Governor Adeleke doing as the leader of the state?

First ,we know the negotiation has produced a tripartite agreement duly signed by the Registrar of the State High Court, the state Attorney General and the national president of the judicial staff union. The agreement calls for an end to the strike under the following conditions:

1. That the judicial services commission (JSC) meeting should be called to reinstate all the suspended staff as soon as possible;

2. That the necessary promotion and regularization of all qualified members of staff will be effected by the judicial service commission (JSC) without further delay;

3. All instituted court actions against the judicial service commission (JSC), JUSUN, it's members (by signatory to this agreement, their privies or their sympathizers) and the the Attorney General must be withdrawn forthwith;

4. That the government has agreed to pay the 2023 staffs regulation dress allowance/ robe allowance, as same was captured under the budget of the judiciary for 2023;

5. That the government will contact all relevant governmental agencies to look into all the past activities regarding the 2021 and 2022 staff;

6. That the government robust scheme of service for all categories of staff in the judiciary shall be fashioned out and implemented by the judicial services commission (JSC) without any further delay;

7. There shall be no victimization of any form against any judicial officer, or any member of JUSUN for participating in the strike or as a result of the strike;

8. That this agreement is without prejudice to whatever step being taken by the national judicial council and in no way meant to overreach, overtake or stop such steps;

9. That this agreement is made in consideration of the need to enable Jusun call off its strike and resume duties accordingly in the interest of the state and general public;

Above agreement requires both the Governor and the State Chief Judge to take some administrative steps. So far, reports indicated that the Governor has ordered the payment of the outstanding wardrobe allowances in addition to the payment of previously withheld salaries;

The next stage is for the State Judicial Service Commission to meet and implement the judicial side of the agreement. Items one to three on the agreement require a decision of the judicial service commission.

Yet, the commission has not acted since February 16th when the agreement was signed.

The Governor is not the head of the judicial service commission. The body is chaired by the state chief judge. The chief judge has a duty to call a meeting of the Commission and approve items 1 to 3 in the tripartite agreement.

Why has the CJ not acted in the same way as the Governor who has paid the wardrobe allowances?

Can the strike be called off without implementing the agreement duly signed? The striking workers are saying No because the issues bother on staff welfare and conditions of service.

In this case, who is to be blamed?

Is the Governor at fault. Definitely No. The man had done a lot by executing areas that affect the executive arm of government in the agreement. He also set up a resolution panel which supported the negotiation that produced the tripartite agreement. In any case, there is a limit of intervention for the Governor as any further step may amount to intervention in judicial matters.

Are the judicial workers at fault?

Well, in labour matters, it will be unfair to blame unions for fighting for their rights. Labour -employer matters are key aspects of state governance which cannot be swept under the carpet.

Is the CJ culpable?

Well, everything revolves around her. The workers are under her. The complaints are all against her. At the center of it all is the Chief Judge.

But why is she not willing to call a meeting of the Service Commission as its chairperson?

This is the crux of the matter. She will remain culpable as long as she refuses to call the commission meeting to implement the agreement.

The agreement is the only way to get the workers back to work. The CJ should do the needful. Her house is on fire and she holds the key to putting it out.

The issue can no longer be hanged on the Governor with all what the executive has done to resolve the matter. The Governor had moved strategically away from the starting point of the crisis, distancing himself and even supporting all recommended measures.

As it is, the Governor cannot call a meeting of the Judicial Service Commission. Only that body can approve key aspects of the agreement to put an end to the strike action. This is a judicial, not an executive responsibility.

PoliticsEconomic Hardship: Gov Adeleke Disburses N500m To 19,720 Beneficiaries In Osun by Jimsonjaat86(op): 5:45pm On Feb 15, 2024
Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday disbursed a total sum of Five Hundred and Eighty Eight Million, One Hundred and Five Thousand Naira only (N588, 105,000.00) to 19,720 beneficiaries of Imole Osun Cash Grant Scheme.

An additional Sixty Thousand identified poor segment of the population are to receive ATMs of their bank accounts to facilitate their access to such grants.

In continuation of his administration's efforts to cushion the effects of the hard time, Governor Adeleke said the beneficiaries are mined from the State Social Register for Poor and Vulnerable Households domiciled in the State Operation Coordinating Unit, National Social Safety Net Project in the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development.

The Governor represented by the Head of Service, Mr Ayanleye Aina reviewed the many programmes of his administration to attend to the needs of the poor, the weak and the under-privileged said the administration has invested heavily in the Social protection sector, developing and implementing several high-level Social Security Strategies to reduce the poverty , unemployment and low productivity space among others.

Describing himself as a pro-poor, pro-welfare leader, the Governor said his administration’s Five Point Agenda has social investment as the core of its focus, noting that “these policies cut across health, education, agriculture, youth, women, children development and Special Needs.

“During our electioneering campaign, we promise that we shall not abandon them. We assure that we shall institutionalize an all-inclusive and well-coordinated Social protection Policy that will provide a life support system for the poor and vulnerable . This support system shall aim to reduce the income gap between the haves and the haves-not in our dear state.

In pursuance of that promise, the State Government of Osun under my watch, in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the State Operation Coordinating Unit (SOCU), National Social Safety Net Project, supervised by the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development today launched this disbursement to the poor of the poor in the state

“Each beneficiary was supported with a sum of between Twenty Five (25,000.00) and Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000.00) only. Among the 19,720 beneficiaries, 10,390 of them with existing bank accounts have had access to withdraw and utilize their money.

Also, I have given approval that the remaining 9,330 beneficiaries be given their debit cards. These people are poor people without account numbers and with this distribution, it becomes an achievement that is in tandem with the financial inclusion policy of the Federal Government.

From the foregoing, at least 60,000 people are going to receive their ATM cards of bank accounts which was facilitated through this programme. The smart cards can be useful for further pro poor interventions and private use”, the Governor was quoted as saying.

Governor Adeleke said the objective of the cash intervention is to provide relief for the most poor and vulnerable population in the state against the harsh economic conditions occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidies, high cost of living among others.

PoliticsAdemola Adeleke: The Man With Gavel And Red Pen by Jimsonjaat86(op): 5:10pm On Feb 10, 2024
By Seyi Adeniyi

In 2017, when Governor Ademola was at the Senate, as Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, I had the privilege of having a round table discussion with him, alongside some other senior colleagues in the media. Despite being a first timer at the Senate, one could see that he really had a grasp of the workings of the National Assembly.

We planned to spend just an hour with him, based on the itinerary sent to us, lo and behold, we ended up spending four hours with him, and at the end, he personally served us with good delicacies. What a humble man!

One of the things I have discovered about Governor Ademola Adeleke in the last one year as his Media Aide is that he detests lies and eye service. He is someone who doesn’t allow the euphoria of his office to get him carried away from doing what is right.

He told his Commissioners and Special Advisers during the retreat that “Whenever you are bringing a file to me for my assent, make sure it is a developmental project which will have direct impacts on the life of ordinary citizens in the State.”

He has said it at many fora that “When it is time to play, we will play, but when it is time to get to work, we must.” Ademola Adeleke is a Governor who has raised the tempo of governance in Osun. What some past leaders in the State proclaimed as impossibility, Adeleke “The great dancer” is making all possible – in terms of delivering on his promises.

Operating an open door policy, Osun people are aware of what the government is doing, unlike what played out when APC government was here. They ran an administration of secrecy, putting Osun residents in total blackout.

Adeleke has promised that the he will only hit the gavel for the good of the people of Osun State, ditto the red pen will only sign documents that will move Osun State forward.

Let me go Biblical, Proverbs 29:2 says, When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. This bible verse refers to what is happening in Osun today.

Governor Adeleke administers the state with the fear of God, hence people keep supporting his administration despite the propaganda and lies being spread around by the opposition APC in the state. People have now become more versed with what is going on in the government, unlike before when the APC governed like an emperor who doesn’t give a hoot about what people say or about their feelings.

All the projects and programmes embarked upon by this administration have so far been accepted by the people of Osun. Just few weeks ago, Mr Governor approved a whooping sum of One Billion Naira (N1 billion) to Cooperative Societies in Osun as a revolving loan. This is unprecedented! No doubt, locals will enjoy this gesture and it will certainly have direct impact on their businesses. Perhaps, this and many other giant strides of this administration informed the decision of Osun workers, pensioners and cooperators to give awards of different categories to the performing Governor.

Just few days ago, the announcement came as a surprise even to me, who is on the corridor of power, that Governor Adeleke has graciously approved another whooping sum of One Billion Naira (N1 Billion) to resuscitate the already moribund Ora-Igbomina water works.

Immediately I got the information, i informed my Kabiyesi, Oba Samuel Idowu Oladoye, the Akesin of Ora-Igbomina land, he was so elated and directed his media office to put up an appreciation note to His Excellency for remembering his subjects in his government. This is a government that prioritises people’s welfare.

Yesterday, I went home for a meeting, I couldn’t imagine the kind of prayers my people offer this administration. When you attend to people’s needs, they reciprocate when you need them.

The gavel and red pen in the hand of Governor Ademola Adeleke have served the people of Osun tremendously and they (Osun residents) are in love with the Governor, no doubt.

Yes, Osun APC as an opposition will have to talk, but I will implore them to be sensitive to what people say about this government. Playing opposition with a government that serves the interest of the people will continue to spell doom for them, because most of the problems that bedevils Osun State today came through them.

If Osun APC members have shame, they should cover their faces, and be asking for forgiveness on a daily basis.

Oluwaseyi Adeniyi,
Media Aide To Governor Ademola Adeleke and an indigen of Ora-Igbomina in Ifedayo local government.

NYSCNysc Flags Off 2024 Free Healthcare For Nigerians by Jimsonjaat86(op): 10:36am On Feb 10, 2024
The National Youth Service Corps has said that it would continue to deploy all resources at its disposal to compliment Federal Government's efforts towards achieving universal health coverage as part of its social welfare programmes.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed stated this while flagging off the nationwide first quarter 2024 of Special Health Initiative For Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme held at Sarki-Gosa Community in Abuja.

He said the HIRD is a platform on which the NYSC caters for the health needs of the rural dwellers, who have little or no access to quality healthcare.

"In driving this initiative, we leverage the expertise of Corps Medical Personnel, such as Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Laboratory Scientists, that are deployed to render free and qualitative medical services to communities across the country. We also mobilize medical consumables, including drugs, to treat ailments, while referrals are made to relevant health facilities when necessary", the DG said.

General Ahmed stated further that since the commencement of the programme, the Scheme has reached out to more than three million Nigerians through sensitization on causes and prevention of diseases, treatment of ailments and referrals, while the target is to reach at least five hundred thousand additional beneficiaries before the end of this year.

He attributed the successes recorded in the programme over the years to the support from various stakeholders, especially those that provided resources, such as drugs and other consumables.

He lauded the Government Agencies, non-governmental organizations as well as public-spirited individuals that have continued to lend helping hands towards sustaining the initiative.

The Director General also commended the patriotic zeal of the successive batches of Corps Members, who have been the field workers of the HIRD in all States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He urged them to sustain the tempo of commitment and continue to be shining examples for other youths on humanitarian services.

The Director, Community Development Service and Special Projects, Hajiya Zainab Isah in her introductory address said the NYSC interventions on free medical services that started ten years ago have brought succour to thousands of indigent Nigerians.

She disclosed that the Health Intervention Programme that would span over two days would include sensitization on causes and prevention of diseases, diagnosis, checkups and treatment of a wide range of ailments.

"For this flag-off, we have mobilized 50 Corps Medical personnel comprising 20 doctors, 12 Pharmacists, 10 Nurses, 8 Medical Laboratory Scientists to attend to Members of this community", the Director said.

In his appreciation to NYSC Management, the District Head of Gosa-Sarki, Mr Ishaku Nana poured encomiums on the Corps Medical Personnel, adding that access to quality healthcare services is one of the numerous needs of the community.

PoliticsSenator Ashiru Refutes Allegations, Calls Consensus Movement's Claims misleading by Jimsonjaat86(op): 11:52pm On Feb 03, 2024
Senator Ashiru Refutes Allegations, Calls Consensus Movement's Claims 'Misleading' and 'Unfounded

Senator Lola Ashiru, the Senate Deputy Leader and Senator Representing Kwara South Senatorial District has berated a political group under the aegis of the Consensus Movement, over its callout.

The group, led by Honourable Femi Agbaje Whyte, a former Commissioner of Energy in Kwara State had accused Senator Lola Ashiru of double standards over his recent comment on the zoning arrangement of governorship ticket in 2027.
Senator Ashiru had in a media chat with newsmen in January 2024 refuted claims of an agreement to zone the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Kwara North or any specific part of the state in the 2027 general election.

He emphasized that the three zones traditionally engage in competitive processes, asserting that victory goes to whoever strategizes effectively and does his homework well.

Reacting to Consensus Movement press release, Comrade Hammed Omuiyadun (Yah Omuz), the personal assistant to Senator Lola Ashiru said the group’s statement, characterized by a sense of skepticism and unpatriotism has sparked a heated debate over its members’ political affiliations.

Senator Ashiru vehemently denies any wrongdoing, labeling the Consensus Group’s claims as both misleading and a blatant display of political ideology lacking in philosophical conscience.

According to him, the accusations are unfounded, and any fair-minded individual would recognize his commitment to fundamental principles and historical antecedents.

The senator goes on to highlight the historical context of gubernatorial aspirants in Kwara State, emphasizing that candidates from various political parties have traditionally emerged from all three senatorial districts. He disputes the notion that previous governors owed their positions to zoning arrangements, asserting instead that ascension to the governorship was determined through wider consultation and negotiation.

Yah Omuz added that Consensus Group, which criticizes Senator Ashiru, has been accused of engaging with ambitious governorship aspirants from different senatorial districts. This apparent contradiction raises questions about the group’s commitment to fair representation.

He added that Senator Ashiru remains resolute and determined to fulfill his mandate despite what he views as attempts by saboteurs to distract him.

Comrade Hammed Yah-Omuz concluded that the Saturday outbursts alludes to a political coup by the Consensus Group in the past, suggesting that their actions nearly cost Offa the senatorial ticket in the last election.

HIS FULL STATEMENT IS REPRODUCED BELOW

Consensus Group: Why not declaring your new political client?🤷‍♂️

1. The said statement credited to the acclaimed consensus group is not only misleading but a conspicuous display of political ideology devoid of philosophical conscience. A fair-minded fellow will never accuse a man “Senator Ashiru” for reiterating a fundamental principle and historical antecedents.
2. It is on record that No electoral year in the history of Kwara State that the governorship aspirants from different political parties will not featured from the 3 senatorial districts in the state. The undeniable historical postulation justifies the assertion of Senator Ashiru that no Governor in the history of Kwara State ascended the position by zoning arrangement but by wider consultation and negotiation.
3. It is important to note that this same consensus group is in the habit of hobnobbing with different ambitious governorship aspirant from different senatorial district while same group is crying of fair sharing- what a fallacy of self contradiction!
4. The political coup plotted by this same consensus group almost cost Offa the senatorial ticket in the last election due to the rapacious political ideology cum the retrograded principle of “Kaka ki’eku mò jè sese so fise awa danu “ Lò and behold… Senator Oyelola Ashiru will never be cowed by the antics of saboteurs who are so desperate to distract our amiable Senator from delivering a purposeful and impactful people’s oriented representation to the good people of Kwara South.
“When come comes to become, we shall know the true capacity of a man”

PoliticsTerrorism Epidemic In South West Nigeria: The Ekiti And Oyo Examples by Jimsonjaat86(op): 6:34pm On Feb 02, 2024
By Taofik Adekunle Jimoh (JAAT)

In the once tranquil South West Nigeria, a wave of unrest and terrorism has cast a dark shadow, particularly evident in recent events in Ekiti and Oyo States. The echoes of disturbance are unmistakable, leaving no room for optimism.

The Ekiti unrest, ominously reaching "Ekiti Extension" in Kwara, witnessed the tragic assassination of retired army General Segun Aremu, the Olukoro of Koro, by unknown gunmen who also abducted his wife and two others. This chilling incident unveils the escalating security challenges.

The explosion in Ibadan on January 16 heightened fears of terrorism infiltrating the Southwest. Questions arose about the preparedness of regional leaders like Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, and the prophetic warnings of Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho Oosa. The security challenges in the region are undeniably worsening.

The Ondo incidents under the late Governor Akeredolu serve as a haunting reminder. The Ibadan Explosion, initially attributed to illegal miners storing explosives, raises suspicions and demands a closer look. Governor Seyi Makinde's preliminary findings only scratch the surface, leaving the public uneasy.

Kidnappers' demand for a staggering N100 million ransom for pupils and staff from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti underscores the severity of the abduction epidemic. Despite security efforts, kidnappings persist nationwide, exposing the inadequacy of current measures.

The ambush of Ekiti monarchs Oba Olatunde Olusola and Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin in Kogi State emphasizes the audacity of gunmen operating in broad daylight. The brazen nature of attacks near schools and the destruction of farms in Ise Ekiti and Emure Ekiti point to a dire situation.

As these states grapple with escalating security challenges, the entire South West, and indeed Nigeria, faces a looming threat to stability. Urgent, decisive actions from both local and national authorities are imperative.

The Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect highlights the overstretching of Nigeria's armed forces, with Boko Haram, ISWA, and bandit groups expanding their operations. The increasing violence between herders and farmers compounds the situation, driven by factors such as population growth and desertification.

The pressing question emerges: Is the northern banditry and terrorism slowly encroaching upon the South? The need for swift and resolute measures to safeguard the region is undeniable.

PoliticsThe Day Osun Civil Servants Honour Governor Adeleke by Jimsonjaat86(op): 4:23pm On Dec 24, 2023
By Sarafa Ibrahim

It was a rare sight at the Bola Ige House on Thursday, or more appropriately, an atmosphere that anyone will ever have contemplated. Adorned in Ankara attires, workers in the employment of the Osun state filled the parking lot of the facility that houses the Governor's office to honour the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

This sounds unbelievable, but it actually happened. And the Head of Service in the state, Mr. Ayanleye Aina helped unravel the rationale behind the decision of the Osun workforce to honour Governor Adeleke by noting that while experience has shown a striking gap between campaign promises and the actual delivery of dividends of democracy the "case of our amiable Governor is a radical departure from this position as workers and retirees have continued to benefit from the kindness of the Governor."

And he was not alone with this feeling as labour leaders took turns to justify the decision to honour Governor Adeleke as the "Most Humane Governor Of The Year" award by the civil servants in the state. The significance of the event was striking and historical. Anyone who has followed events in Osun over the years will feel the same way because a poor attitude toward the welfare of workers and pensioners usually puts civil servants on a collision course with the government and hardly give room for any form of honour as done for Governor Adeleke.

The event speaks to the resounding acceptance of Osun workers to Governor Adeleke's passionate commitment to their welfare. It was a lesson in service that when a Governor puts smiles on the faces of workers by prioritizing their welfare, they are bound to reciprocate the gesture through open recognition as bestowed on Governor Adeleke. When you make governance about the people as Governor Adeleke is doing, it is almost certain that the people will acknowledge it. This was exactly what happened with the Osun civil servants and Governor Adeleke.

In the one year since Governor Adeleke has been in office, I have read and listened with relish series of testimonies of his impactful governance. The height of it came at the event put up by the civil servants to honour the governor as speaker upon speaker highlighted the good deeds of Governor Adeleke and how they affected them one way or the other.

The Head of Service, Mr. Aina noted in his speech that "Prior to the advent of your (Adeleke) Administration in the State, senior workers were owed several months of unpaid half salaries, a situation that came to the national limelight. Believing that governance is a continuum, your administration has been consistently offsetting these backlog of salary and pension arrears. As we speak, four months arrears have been paid to date. Your administration cash-backed arrears of promotions from the previous Administrations which were in millions of naira."

But the thing is, Governor Adeleke's incredible posture toward welfare is not limited to active workers. The welfare of senior citizens has seen a remarkable improvement under Governor Adeleke, which Mr. Aina pointed out during his speech. According to him, Governor Adeleke has "increased the monthly release of fund for the payment of gratuities for retirees at the State level 100%, that is from N50m to N100m" and also "increased the monthly release of fund for the new pension scheme from N175m to N350m, that is, by 100%. At the local government level, it was increased to N400m."

Perhaps this was why the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Osun State chapter, Baba Salau Ganiyu, enjoins the people of Osun to "help us thank the Governor" when he was called upon to address the gathering. The octogenarian who was apparently impressed with Governor Adeleke on the welfare of retirees declared that "He is doing wonderfully well for pensioners." Then, he highlighted many things that Governor Adeleke has done for pensioners since coming to office, particularly "the enrollment of all retirees on the health insurance scheme", which he said will handle health challenges faced by pensioners and drastically reduce incidents of untimely deaths among them.

Just like him, the Chairman of Contributory Pensioners in Osun state, Elder Gbenga Oyadare, was full of praise for Governor Adeleke for his humane disposition to the welfare of workers and pensioners. "For the first time, there is no round table discussion on the payment of half salary. If you have taken your bond, you will take it quarterly and if you haven't, you will get it monthly. Without negotiation at all, health insurance approved, to the level of operation," he said at the event.

Stories and testimonies of Governor Adeleke's astounding touching impacts like this abound across sectors and are daily shared by those impacted. Before the advent of Governor Adeleke, the attitude to the welfare of workers and pensioners was erratic just like power supply in Nigeria, exerting undeserved pains on them as reflected in the 30 months of unpaid half salary and pension arrears. Many affected workers lost hope of receiving their earned money because, for the entire forty-eight months of the immediate past administration in office, no attempt was made to pay any part of the owed wage debt. It was considered an impossibility.

Then Governor Adeleke came with his touch of humanity kind of leadership and from that point, those things considered impossible become possible. Payment of the owed half salary was initiated and in one year, four months has been paid. The promotion for civil servants done in 2019 by the past administration but not backed by the consequential financial implication was cash-backed by Governor Adeleke only a few months in office. Civil servants no longer have to bear promotion papers that do not translate to real value in terms of earnings to them as they did for nearly four years as the administration that gave it to them failed to implement the financial consequences.

The story isn't any different for pensioners in the state. Between November 27, 2022, and November 2023, Governor Adeleke has expended over N20 billion to clear inherited pension liabilities. And right at the venue of the event put up by the civil servants to honour him, Governor Adeleke issued over N2.9 billion in fresh bonds to pensioners across sectors. While retirees under state service receive N1.3 billion in bond payments, those in the local government and primary school categories got a total of N1.625 billion in bond payments. Do not forget that a few months back, Governor Adeleke enrolled the entire retirees in Osun state in healthcare coverage (the first and only state in Nigeria to do so) just to relieve pensioners of the burden of managing health challenges common with old age.

You can now see why the civil servants in Osun state choose to honour Governor Adeleke because right through his actions and deeds, he is indeed humane. He is unlike the experience of the past when civil servants and pensioners will have to pour into the streets in protest before they can get their due entitlements. That is why the civil servants could roll out the drums because they have seen a lot and can tell the difference that Governor Adeleke is a friend and deserves every honour bestowed on him.

Two things stand out in what civil servants in Osun state did for Governor Adeleke– people appreciate good deeds and nothing is more rewarding than touching lives positively. If Governor Adeleke had shown similar disdain for the welfare of workers and pensioners as some ahead of him have done, the gathering at the Bola Ige House would never have happened. And if did, it would not be to honour him but rather, something unpleasant.

Every person in Osun can see the passion that Governor Adeleke has put into solving the series of challenges he inherited. Not just addressing the welfare conundrum that defined the past but also the striking infrastructure shortage that plagued the state. And he is doing all these despite the stress that debt servicing, which stood at about N1.8 billion on a monthly basis, exerts on the derivation of the state. The long and short of it all is that, Governor Adeleke is working for the people and the clearest indication is the "Most Humane Governor of The Year" bestowed on him by the workforce of the state. Congratulations Mr. Governor.
