Honestly, after the June 12 imbroglio, Many in the west, Tinubu inclusive have all been in the fore front in the fight for a total and complete Restructuring of the Country via a full National Sovereignty Conference. One in which each federating group will table their wishes, etc.
But because of this their marriage of convenience with Buhari, many of them have chickened out. Most especially Tinubu and his boy, the VP. There is God O.

PoliticsAPC No Longer Talking About True Federalism – Fayose by Jirate(op): 2:28am On Aug 22, 2016
Kamarudeen Ogundele, Ado Ekiti

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has backed the call for the restructuring of Nigeria for true federalism.

The governor said it was strange that the All Progressives Congress, which was at the fore-front of the agitation for true federalism was now against restructuring as the ruling party.

Fayose, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, stated that Nigeria was returning to full-blown unitary system of government “under the present APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He said, “It is on record that the APC said at a debate on ‘Addressing the rising insecurity in Nigeria, what is the master plan?’ organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) on December 18, 2014, that it would ensure true federalism and ensure adequate community policing through the establishment of state-controlled police so as to curb the protracted security challenges in the country.

“Sad enough, now that it is the ruling party, the APC is no longer talking about true federalism, especially the state police that it canvassed while in the opposition.”

Governor Fayose, who said States must be strengthened for the country to develop, noted that Nigeria developed faster in the 50s and 60s when it was practicing confederal system of government, with the regions running its own affairs almost autonomously.

“A situation where there are mineral resources in a State and the State cannot do anything about them without approval from the Federal Government will not foster the development that we all yearn for.

“A situation where the federal government has turned itself into lord and master over other federating units in the country, using federal agencies to oppress even State governors is not acceptable.

BEN AGANDE, ABUJA.
Worried by the conflicting judgments and orders issued by courts of coordinate jurisdiction on one matter, the former chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his supporters have petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed and President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in order to save the judiciary from being taken over by petitions.

On behalf of the Sheriif group, former National Secretary of the Party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, that the judiciary facing the imminent danger of being infiltrated and controlled by politicians”.

He urged the President and the CJN to prevail on the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, to wade into the situation as the Head of the court and save the judiciary and democracy from an “avoidable crisis and embarrassment”

Oladipo who added that the judiciary have assumed a disturbing dimension said, “when parties are served court processes and have joined issues, they rush to another court where they get pliable judges to grant them exparte orders and conflicting orders and judgments within days. Details soon..

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is set to rehabilitate the 414 grazing reserve centres and stock routes across the country, what it described as steps taken to end the clash between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country.

National Coordinator, Grazing Reserve Rehabilitation at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Mahmud Ibrahim, disclosed this while speaking during a sensitisation and mobilisation programme on the issue at Wawazange Grazing Reserve in Dukkku Local Council of Gombe State.

Ibrahim said government would not rest until the lingering crisis between farmers and cattle breeders ended.

According to him, the project, which is being carried out by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Agriculture, is in conjunction with Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria to curtail the crisis among farmers and herdsmen in the country.

He said 10 states had already been mandated for the rehabilitation of the grazing reserves and stock routes.

National Secretary of the breeders’ association, Baba Ngajarma, lauded the effort made by the government, saying that the project would sensitise farmers and herdsmen, adding that they must shun violence and embrace one another.

PoliticsPDP Leadership Tussle: Sheriff Moves To Stall Court Order by Jirate(op):
Applies for stay of execution

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has appealed against last Wednesday’s ruling by an Abuja High Court in Kubwa, seeking a stay of execution his sack by the court.

Justice Nwamaka Ogbonna of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory had told Sheriff that he was illegally appointed as the chairman of the PDP and as such, should stop parading himself as the party’s national chairman henceforth.

The suit seeking declaration on Sheriff’s status was instituted by a contestant to the position of the youth leader at yesterday’s convention, Danladi Ayuba, while the sole defendant was Sheriff.

However, Sheriff yesterday reacted to the judgment of the High Court sitting in Kubwa, saying it did not affect his chairmanship position.
Sheriff said though the judgment did not affect him in anyway, however disclosed that he has appealed it and asked for stay of execution.

Justice Valentine Ashi had on June 29, 2016, declared that “the purported amendment of article 47(6) of the PDP Constitution of 2012 at a special National Convention of the party held on December 10 and 11, 2014, is unconstitutional, null, void and of no effect for non-compliance with mandatory due process as provided in Article 66(2) and (3) of the said constitution.

“By reason of the above, the purported amendment introduced in article 47 on the aforesaid dates are hereby set aside.

“All persons or individuals, officers, servants and agents of the PDP parading themselves as national officers of the PDP purportedly pursuant to the said amendment which has now been nullified are hereby restrained from further parading themselves around in those capacities and claiming the rights and privileges attached or appurtenant thereto.”

Based on this, Justice Ogbonna, in her judgment last Wednesday, nullified the appointment of Sheriff as PDP chairman and declared his appointment as null and void.

Speaking on behalf of Sheriff, his deputy, Cairo Ojuogboh, said although Sheriff was not a party to the suit, he has appealed it and asked for stay of execution.

“When you are too much in a hurry to kill your enemy, sometimes you kill yourself. Some persons went to Justice Valentine Ashi and Sheriff was not party to the case. Justice Ashi gave judgment based on what was placed before him.

“Sheriff was not a party to it and we have appealed it and asked for stay of execution. In that ruling, Justice Ashi annulled the amendment of the 2014 PDP Constitution. In annulling it, we go back to 2012 constitution. In that constitution, it is stated that when a National Working Committee (NWC) member leaves his office by virtue of death or anything, somebody from that particular zone will be nominated and appointed to complete his tenure and continue in office until the next convention. That is what happened.

“The court annulled the 2014 constitution as amended, it does not affect Sheriff in any way. He will now stand on the 2012 Constitution. We have taken it back to the court in an appeal,” he said.
